One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
ahinis jaagai need na sovai |
Day and night, he remains awake and aware; he never sleeps or dreams.
ਸੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਵੇਦਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
so jaanai jis vedan hovai |
He alone knows this, who feels the pain of separation from God.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਕਾਨ ਲਗੇ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਵੈਦੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
prem ke kaan lage tan bheetar vaid ki jaanai kaaree jeeo |1|
My body is pierced through with the arrow of love. How can any physician know the cure? ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਲਾਏ ॥
jis no saachaa sifatee laae |
Rare is that one, who as Gurmukh,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
guramukh virale kisai bujhaae |
Understands, and whom the True Lord links to His Praise.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amrit kee saar soee jaanai ji amrit kaa vaapaaree jeeo |1| rahaau |
He alone appreciates the value of the Ambsosial Nectar, who deals in this Ambrosia. ||1||Pause||
ਪਿਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਧਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਰਚਾਏ ॥
pir setee dhan prem rachaae |
The soul-bride is in love with her Husband Lord;
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਥਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad tathaa chit laae |
She focuses her consciousness on the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਧਨ ਖਰੀ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਿਖਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
sehaj setee dhan kharee suhelee trisanaa tikhaa nivaaree jeeo |2|
The soul-bride is joyously embellished with intuitive ease; her hunger and thirst are taken away. ||2||
ਸਹਸਾ ਤੋੜੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
sahasaa torre bharam chukaae |
Tear down skepticism and dispel your doubt;
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਧਣਖੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥
sahaje sifatee dhanakh charraae |
with your intuition, draw the bow of the Praise of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਜੋਗਾਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
gur kai sabad marai man maare sundar jogaadhaaree jeeo |3|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, conquer and subdue your mind; take the support of Yoga - Union with the beautiful Lord. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਲਿਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
haumai jaliaa manahu visaare |
Burnt by egotism, one forgets the Lord from his mind.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਵਜਹਿ ਖੜਗ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥
jam pur vajeh kharrag karaare |
In the City of Death, he is attacked with massive swords.
ਅਬ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਮਿਲਈ ਤੂ ਸਹੁ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
ab kai kahiai naam na milee too sahu jeearre bhaaree jeeo |4|
Then, even if he asks for it, he will not receive the Lord's Name; O soul, you shall suffer terrible punishment. ||4||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਪਵਹਿ ਖਿਆਲੀ ॥
maaeaa mamataa paveh khiaalee |
You are distracted by thoughts of Maya and worldly attachment.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਫਾਸਹਿਗਾ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੀ ॥
jam pur faasahigaa jam jaalee |
In the City of Death, you will be caught by the noose of the Messenger of Death.
ਹੇਤ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਤਾ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥
het ke bandhan torr na saakeh taa jam kare khuaaree jeeo |5|
You cannot break free from the bondage of loving attachment, and so the Messenger of Death will torture you. ||5||
ਨਾ ਹਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾ ਮੈ ਕੀਆ ॥
naa hau karataa naa mai keea |
I have done nothing; I am doing nothing now.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
amrit naam satigur deea |
The True Guru has blessed me with the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਾਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥੧॥੧੨॥
jis too dehi tisai kiaa chaaraa naanak saran tumaaree jeeo |6|1|12|
What other efforts can anyone make, when You bestow Your blessing? Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||6||1||12||

ਜਹ ਬੈਸਾਲਹਿ ਤਹ ਬੈਸਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਹ ਭੇਜਹਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਵਾ ॥
jeh baisaaleh teh baisaa suaamee jeh bhejeh teh jaavaa |
Wherever You seat me, there I sit, O my Lord and Master; wherever You send me, there I go.
ਸਭ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਭੇ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹਹਿ ਥਾਵਾ ॥੧॥
sabh nagaree meh eko raajaa sabhe pavit heh thaavaa |1|
In the entire village, there is only One King; all places are sacred. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਸਾ ਸਚ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
baabaa dehi vasaa sach gaavaa |
O Baba, while I dwell in this body, let me sing Your True Praises,
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa te sahaje sehaj samaavaa |1| rahaau |
that I may intuitively merge with You. ||1||Pause||
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪਸ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਏਈ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
buraa bhalaa kichh aapas te jaaniaa eee sagal vikaaraa |
He thinks that good and bad deeds come from himself; this is the source of all evil.
ਇਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਹੋਆ ਵਰਤੈ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
eihu furamaaeaa khasam kaa hoaa varatai ihu sansaaraa |2|
Whatever happens in this world is only by the Order of our Lord and Master. ||2||
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਧਾਤੁ ਸਬਲ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
eindree dhaat sabal kaheeat hai indree kis te hoee |
Sexual desires are so strong and compelling; where has this sexual desire come from?
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਐਸਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥
aape khel karai sabh karataa aisaa boojhai koee |3|
The Creator Himself stages all the plays; how rare are those who realize this. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਤਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
gur parasaadee ek liv laagee dubidhaa tade binaasee |
By Guru's Grace, one is lovingly focused on the One Lord, and then, duality is ended.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸੋ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੪॥
jo tis bhaanaa so sat kar maaniaa kaattee jam kee faasee |4|
Whatever is in harmony with His Will, he accepts as True; the noose of Death is loosened from around his neck. ||4||
ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਕਵਨਾ ਜਾ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
bhanat naanak lekhaa maagai kavanaa jaa chookaa man abhimaanaa |
Prays Nanak, who can call him to account, when the egotistical pride of his mind has been silenced?
ਤਾਸੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਪਤੁ ਹੈ ਪਏ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੫॥੧॥
taas taas dharam raae japat hai pe sache kee saranaa |5|1|
Even the Righteous Judge of Dharma is intimidated and afraid of him; he has entered the Sanctuary of the True Lord. ||5||1||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
aavan jaanaa naa theeai nij ghar vaasaa hoe |
Coming and going in reincarnation no longer exist, when one dwells in the home of the self within.
ਸਚੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
sach khajaanaa bakhasiaa aape jaanai soe |1|
He bestowed the Blessing of His treasure of truth; only He Himself knows. ||1||
ਏ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਚੇਤਿ ਤੂ ਮਨਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
e man har jeeo chet too manahu taj vikaar |
O my mind, remember the Dear Lord, and abandon the corruption of your mind.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai sabad dhiaae too sach lagee piaar |1| rahaau |
Meditate on the Word of the Guru's Shabad; focus lovingly on the Truth. ||1||Pause||
ਐਥੈ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਥੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
aithai naavahu bhuliaa fir hath kithaaoo na paae |
One who forgets the Name in this world, shall not find any place of rest anywhere else.
ਜੋਨੀ ਸਭਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਨਿ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
jonee sabh bhavaaeean bisattaa maeh samaae |2|
He shall wander in all sorts of reincarnations, and rot away in manure. ||2||
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਇ ॥
vaddabhaagee gur paaeaa poorab likhiaa maae |
By great good fortune, I have found the Guru, according to my pre-ordained destiny, O my mother.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
anadin sachee bhagat kar sachaa le milaae |3|
Night and day, I practice true devotional worship; I am united with the True Lord. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
aape srisatt sabh saajeean aape nadar karee |
He Himself fashioned the entire universe; He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak naam vaddiaaeea jai bhaavai tai dee |4|2|
O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glorious and great; as He pleases, He bestows His Blessings. ||4||2||

‘Before the marriage party arrives,
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਮੁਹਿ ਤੈ ਬਾਜ ਪੈ ਡਾਰਿ ਲਿਜਾਇ ਤੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
tab lau muhi tai baaj pai ddaar lijaae tu jaae |7|
‘Before they come in, you take me riding on your horse.(7)

ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਗ ਬਿਰਾਜ ਹੋ ਮੀਤ ਮੈ ਔਰ ਕਰੌਗੀ ਕਹਾ ਪਤਿ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥
tere hee sang biraaj ho meet mai aauar karauagee kahaa pat kai kai |
‘I am bequeathed to you, my friend, why do I go for another husband.
ਤੋਹੂ ਕੌ ਆਜੁ ਬਰੌ ਨ ਟਰੌ ਮਰਿਹੌ ਨਹਿ ਹਾਲ ਹਲਾਹਲ ਖੈ ਕੈ ॥
tohoo kau aaj barau na ttarau marihau neh haal halaahal khai kai |
‘I will not desist and marry you; otherwise, I will poison myself.
ਨੇਹੁ ਬਢਾਇ ਸੁ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਇ ਸੁ ਦੇਤ ਤਿਨੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥
nehu badtaae su kel kamaae su det tinai apanee triy kai kai |
‘You enhanced your affection and loved me, now you are going to let them take your woman.
ਵੈ ਦਿਨ ਭੂਲਿ ਗਏ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਜਿਯ ਹੋ ਕੈਸੋ ਲਾਲਨ ਲਾਜ ਲਜੈ ਕੈ ॥੮॥
vai din bhool ge tum ko jiy ho kaiso laalan laaj lajai kai |8|
‘Have you forgotten the day when you engendered friendship with me. How would I survive in shame, now?’(8)
ਪੀਰੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਜਾਤ ਘਨੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਤ ਬਿਯਾਹ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਕੋਊ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
peeree hvai jaat ghanee pachhutaat biyaah kee jo koaoo baat sunaavai |
Her heartache was intensified whenever some one mentioned to her about marriage.
ਪਾਨ ਸੋ ਪਾਨ ਮਰੋਰਤ ਮਾਨਿਨਿ ਦਾਤਨ ਸੋ ਅੰਗੁਰੀਨ ਚਬਾਵੈ ॥
paan so paan marorat maanin daatan so angureen chabaavai |
In nervousness, her hands were twisted and she bit her fingers.
ਨਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਇ ਖਨੈ ਪੁਹਮੀ ਨਖ ਰੇਖ ਲਖੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥
naar nivaae khanai puhamee nakh rekh lakhai man mai pachhutaavai |
She put her eyes on the ground and went on scraping the ground with her nails, repenting for the lover.
ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ਕੋ ਪੀਯ ਰੁਚੈ ਮਿਰਜਾ ਪਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਯਾਹੁ ਕਿਧੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥੯॥
payaaree ko peey ruchai mirajaa par brayaahu kidho man mai na suhaavai |9|
She cherished Mirza and none other fancied her mind.(9)

ਰੁਚਿਰ ਰਮਨ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਰਚੀ ਔਰ ਸੁਹਾਤ ਨ ਮੋਹਿ ॥

(Her friends to Mirza) ‘She is engrossed in your love and none other could gratify.
ਬ︀ਯਾਹਿ ਬਰਾਤੀ ਜਾਇ ਹੈ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਐਹੈ ਤੋਹਿ ॥੧੦॥
bayaeh baraatee jaae hai laaj na aihai tohi |10|
‘If the others took her away after marriage, won’t you be ashned of yourself?’(10)

ਨੈਸਕਿ ਮੋਰਿ ਗਏ ਅਨਤੈ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜੀਤ ਰਹੈਗੋ ॥
naisak mor ge anatai neh jaanat preetam jeet rahaigo |
(Sahiban) ‘I will not like to go anywhere, not even for a moment.
ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰਤ ਆਰਤਿ ਬੀਥਨ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਰ ਕਹੈਗੋ ॥
payaaree hee payaaree pukaarat aarat beethan mai bahu baar kahaigo |
‘Thinking about me, he will be roaming around in the streets.
ਤੋ ਹਮਰੈ ਇਨ ਕੇ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬੀਚ ਕਹੌ ਕਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਨੇਹ ਰਹੈਗੋ ॥
to hamarai in ke duhoon beech kahau kih bhaat saneh rahaigo |
‘How will his and my love keep on surviving? ‘
ਕੌਨ ਹੀ ਕਾਜ ਸੁ ਜੀਬੋ ਸਖੀ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਧ︀ਯੋ ਨਿਜੁ ਮੀਤ ਦਹੈਗੋ ॥੧੧॥
kauan hee kaaj su jeebo sakhee jab preet badhayo nij meet dahaigo |11|
‘What good I will be when my lover goes on scorching in my love?(11)

bol sakhee prat bachan uchaariyo |
After thinking hard like that, she asked her friend,
ਮਿਰਜਾ ਸਾਥ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਿਯਹੁ ॥
mirajaa saath jaae tum kahiyahu |
ਆਜੁ ਆਨਿ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕੌ ਗਹਿਯਹੁ ॥੧੨॥
aaj aan saahibaa kau gahiyahu |12|
‘Go and tell Mirza to come today to meet his Sahiban.’(12)
ਜਬ ਵਹ ਆਇ ਬ︀ਯਾਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
jab veh aae bayaeh kar lai hai |
ਤੁਮਰੇ ਡਾਰਿ ਫੂਲ ਸਿਰ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
tumare ddaar fool sir jai hai |
‘’When they had taken me in marriage, then what good will be the flower (garland) on his head
ਮੋਰੇ ਗਏ ਕਹੋ ਕਾ ਕਰਿਹੋ ॥

ਉਰ ਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਮਰਿਹੋ ॥੧੩॥

‘What will he do once I have gone. Would he kill himself with a dagger?(13)

ਜੌ ਹਮ ਸੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਕਛੂ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਲਗਨਿ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
jau ham sai laagee kachhoo tumaree lagan banaae |
(To Mirza) If you realy like me and your love is true,
ਤੌ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਲੈ ਜਾਇਯੋ ਆਜ ਨਿਸਾ ਕੌ ਆਇ ॥੧੪॥
tau mo ko lai jaaeiyo aaj nisaa kau aae |14|
‘Then come to night and take me away.’ (14)

When Rangwatti Rangwatti (the friend) listened to this,
ਸਕਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੌ ਭੇਸ ਤਬ ਆਪੁ ਬਨਾਇਯੋ ॥
sakal purakh kau bhes tab aap banaaeiyo |
She put on the clothes of a man,
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਬਾਜ ਅਰੂੜਿ ਤਬੈ ਤਹ ਕੌ ਚਲੀ ॥
hvai kai baaj aroorr tabai teh kau chalee |
She mounted on a horse,
ਹੋ ਲੀਨੈ ਸਕਲ ਸੁਬੇਸ ਸਖੀ ਬੀਸਕ ਭਲੀ ॥੧੫॥
ho leenai sakal subes sakhee beesak bhalee |15|
And taking twenty other friends marched.(15)

The friends reached the place and asked the welfare of Mirza.
ਸਖੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਚਲਿ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਯੋ ॥
sakhee sahit chal sees jhukaayo |
ਤੋਹਿ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਬੇਗ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੬॥
tohi saahibaa beg bulaayo |16|
With respect they bowed their heads and told him that Sahiban had called him urgently.(16)
ਮਿਰਜਾ ਸੁਨਤ ਬਾਤ ਚੜਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
mirajaa sunat baat charr dhaayo |
ਪਲਕ ਨ ਭਈ ਗਾਵ ਤਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
palak na bhee gaav teh aayo |
Hearing this, Mirza reacted immediately and
ਯਹ ਸੁਧਿ ਜਬੈ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
yeh sudh jabai saahibaa paaee |
ਤੁਰਤੁ ਏਕ ਤਹ ਸਖੀ ਪਠਾਈ ॥੧੭॥
turat ek teh sakhee patthaaee |17|
soon reached the place (of Sahiban.(17)
