ਸੀੜਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਧਰਨਿ ਪਰ ਆਨਿ ॥

‘Tbe Raja had fallen from the stairs to the ground,
ਚੁਬੀ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਪੇਟ ਮੈ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਜਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥੨੧॥
chubee kattaaree pett mai taa te tajiyo praan |21|
‘And the dagger had gone straight into his stomach, killing him instantly.’(21)

Savaiyya
ਏਕ ਮਹਾ ਬਨ ਬੀਚ ਬਸੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਧਰੇ ਰਿਖ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥
ek mahaa ban beech basai mun sring dhare rikh sring kahaayo |
There used to live a sage in ajungle that supported horns on his head and was known as a Horny.
ਕੌਨਹੂੰ ਖ︀ਯਾਲ ਬਿਭਾਡਵ ਜੂ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਿਯਾ ਹੂੰ ਕੀ ਕੋਖਿਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥
kauanahoon khayaal bibhaaddav joo mrigiyaa hoon kee kokhihoon te upajaayo |
Some thought (prevailed) that Bibhandav, the father of Horny, had gotten him through the belly of a she-deer.
ਹੋਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਪਸੀ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਲੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਕੋ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
hot bhayo tapasee tab te jab te budh lai sudh ko tthaharaayo |
He had become a sage as soon as he achieved the age of discernment.
ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨਾ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਭਜੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਪੁਰ ਭੀਤਰ ਭੂਲ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੧॥
rain dinaa raghunaath bhajai kabahoon pur bheetar bhool na aayo |1|
He meditated day and night and never visited the city, not even unintentionally.(1)
ਬੀਚ ਕਰੈ ਤਪਸ︀ਯਾ ਬਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
beech karai tapasayaa ban ke mun raam ko naam japai sukh paavai |
By meditating in the jungle, he felt blissful.
ਨ੍ਰਹਾਨ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਧਰੈ ਮੁਖ ਬੇਦ ਰਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
nrahaan karai nit dhayaan dharai mukh bed rarai har kee liv laavai |
Every day, observantly, he would orate Vedas after ablution, and revel in Godly deliberations.
ਰੀਤਿ ਚਲੈ ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੀ ਤਨ ਕਸਟ ਸਹੈ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਨ ਡੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
reet chalai khatt saasatran kee tan kasatt sahai man ko na ddulaavai |
He followed Six Shastras, although he would bear body-penances, he would never let his mind deviate.
ਭੂਖਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਕਾਨਨ ਤੇ ਚੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਫਲ ਖਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
bhookh piaas lagai jab hee tab kaanan te chun kai fal khaavai |2|
When he felt hungry and thirsty, he would pick up fruits and eat.(2)
ਕਾਲ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਭਯੋ ਇਹ ਰੀਤਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਦੁਰਭਿਛ ਤਹਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
kaal biteet bhayo ih reet pariyo durabhichh tahaa sun paayo |
A long time had gone by, when, it is heard, a famine broke out.
ਬੀਜ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਏਕ ਤਹਾ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਕਨੇਕਨ ਕੌ ਤਰਸਾਯੋ ॥
beej rahiyo neh ek tahaa sabh lok kanekan kau tarasaayo |
Nothing to eat was left and the people started to crave even for a single kernel.
ਜੇਤੇ ਪੜੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਹੁਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
jete parre bahu bipr hute tin kau tab hee nrip bol patthaayo |
The Raja called all the learned Brahmins and asked,
ਕੌਨ ਕੁਕਾਜ ਕਿਯੋ ਕਹੋ ਮੈ ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੋਕਨ ਜੀਵ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੩॥
kauan kukaaj kiyo kaho mai jih te bhrit lokan jeev na paayo |3|
‘Tell me what have I sinned that my subject is not able to subsist.’(3)
ਰਾਜ ਕਹੀ ਜਬ ਯੌ ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਤਬ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਸਭੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
raaj kahee jab yau tin kau tab bipr sabhai ih bhaat uchaare |
On the Raja’s query, they all responded,
ਰੀਤ ਚਲੌ ਰਜਨੀਤਨ ਕੀ ਤੁਮ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਯੋ ਪਾਪ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥
reet chalau rajaneetan kee tum koaoo na dekhiyo paap tihaare |
‘You have been ruling according to the legacy, and have committed no sin.
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੈ ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਹੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
sinmrit mai khatt saasatr mai sabh hoon mil kror bichaar bichaare |
‘Consulting the Simritis and the Six Shastras, all the Brahmins have reached this conclusion.
ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗੀ ਰਿਖੀਸਨ ਆਏ ਤਵਾਲਯ ਯਾਹੀ ਚੁਭੈ ਚਿਤ ਬਾਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
sringee rikheesan aae tavaalay yaahee chubhai chit baat hamaare |4|
‘We have contemplated that the Horny Rikhi should be invited to your house.(4)
ਜੌ ਚਿਤ ਬੀਚ ਰੁਚੈ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਮਾਨਸ ਸੋਈ ਪਠੈਯੈ ॥
jau chit beech ruchai mahaaraaj bulaae kai maanas soee patthaiyai |
‘If Your Revered Honour, think appropriate, some how, Bibhandav Rikhi,
ਕੌਨੇ ਉਪਾਇ ਬਿਭਾਡਵ ਕੋ ਸੁਤ ਯਾ ਪੁਰ ਬੀਥਨ ਮੈ ਬਹਿਰੈਯੈ ॥
kauane upaae bibhaaddav ko sut yaa pur beethan mai bahiraiyai |
may be invited to go around blessing the city.
ਦੇਸ ਬਸੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਨਸੈ ਚਿਤ ਭੀਤਰ ਸਾਚ ਇਹੈ ਠਹਿਰੈਯੈ ॥
des basai fir kaal nasai chit bheetar saach ihai tthahiraiyai |
‘It is true, ifhe dwells in this country, the famine will be eradicated.
ਜੌ ਨਹਿ ਆਵੈ ਤੋ ਪੂਤ ਭਿਜਾਇ ਕਿ ਆਪਨ ਜਾਇ ਉਤਾਇਲ ਲ︀ਯੈਯੈ ॥੫॥
jau neh aavai to poot bhijaae ki aapan jaae utaaeil layaiyai |5|
‘If he cannot come himself then, he may be requested to send his son,’(5)

ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਮਿਤ ਪੂਤ ਪਠਾਇ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਤਿ ਹਾਯਲ ਭਯੋ ॥

Extremely aggrieved, Raja sent his friends, the sons, and many others.
ਆਪਨਹੂੰ ਲਪਟਾਇ ਚਰਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਆਯੋ ਨ ਮੁਨਿ ॥੬॥
aapanahoon lapattaae charan rahiyo aayo na mun |6|
He, himself, fell on his feet, but the sage did not acquiesce.(6)

Savaiyya
ਬੈਠਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੌਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਹੋ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
baitth bichaar keeyo sabh logan kauan upaae kaho ab keejai |
Then all the people gathered around and contemplated, ‘what to do.’
ਆਪਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਥਕਿਯੋ ਹਮਰੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੋ ਰਿਖਿ ਤੌ ਅਜਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
aapeh jaae thakiyo hamaro nrip so rikh tau ajahoon neh bheejai |
Raja had himself tried hard, but could not get the sage to consent,
ਜੋ ਤਿਹ ਲ︀ਯਾਇ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਯਹਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ਯਹ ਦੇਸ ਦੁਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
jo tih layaae bulaae yahaa tih kau yeh des dudhaa kar deejai |
(He declared) Any body who persuades him to come, I will give him half of my kingdom.’
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਲਜਾਇ ਸਬੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਇ ਮੁਨੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਤਪੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
yaa te lajaae sabo grih aae munee sukh paae sabhai tap chheejai |7|
(People thought) ‘Ashamed (of not being able to persuade), the Raja has shut himself in the house, now we all will strive to bring the sage.’(7)
ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੁਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਠੌਰ ਸੋਊ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਈ ॥
paatr saroop hutee tih tthauar soaoo chal kai nrip ke grih aaee |
There lived a pretty prostitute; she came to Raja’s palace.
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸਮੁਝਾਈ ॥
bhed abhed kee baat sabhai keh kai mukh te sabh hee samujhaaee |
She divulged her actions to the people at large that,
ਪਾਨ ਚਬਾਇ ਚਲੀ ਤਿਤ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਰਮਾਈ ॥
paan chabaae chalee tith ko man dev adevan ko biramaaee |
Chewing beetle-nut she had walked over to appease the devils and the gods.
ਅਨੰਦ ਲੋਕ ਭਏ ਤਜਿ ਸੋਕ ਸੁ ਸੋਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਬਿਸਰਾਈ ॥੮॥
anand lok bhe taj sok su sok kee baat sabhai bisaraaee |8|
On seeing her proceeding (now to the palace), the people were filled with bliss.(8)
ਕਾ ਬਪੁਰੋ ਮੁਨਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਹੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨੈਕ ਜੋ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਨ ਪੈਹੌ ॥
kaa bapuro mun hai sun he nrip naik jo nain nihaaran paihau |
‘Listen my sovereign Raja, a sage isjust a meagre object for me, he would not dare to look into my eyes even.
ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਤਿਸੈ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਸੁ ਬਾਤਨ ਸੌ ਅਪਨੇ ਬਸਿ ਕੈਹੌ ॥
roop dikhaae tisai urajhaae su baatan sau apane bas kaihau |
‘I will display him my charm and will get him enchanted through my talks.
ਪਾਗ ਬੰਧਾਇ ਜਟਾਨ ਮੁੰਡਾਇ ਸੁ ਤਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਇ ਤਵਾਲਯ ਲ︀ਯੈਹੌ ॥
paag bandhaae jattaan munddaae su taa nrip jaae tavaalay layaihau |
‘I will get his hair-locks shaven off and bring him to your palace with a turban on.
ਕੇਤਿਕ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੋ ਇਹ ਨਾਥ ਤਵਾਨਨ ਤੇ ਟੁਕ ਆਇਸੁ ਪੈਹੌ ॥੯॥
ketik baat suno ih naath tavaanan te ttuk aaeis paihau |9|
‘Observe my miraculous charm; he, himself, will come and serve you the meals.(9)
ਕੇਤਿਕ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੋ ਮੁਹਿ ਹੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤਾਰਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਅਕਾਸ ਤੇ ਲ︀ਯੈਹੌ ॥
ketik baat suno muhi he nrip taaran tor akaas te layaihau |
‘Hearken to what I am saying, my Raja, I am capable of bringing stars from the sky.
ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਕਹਾ ਨਰ ਹੈ ਬਰ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਬਸਿ ਕੈਹੌ ॥
dev adev kahaa nar hai bar devan ko chhin mai bas kaihau |
‘I have gained control over many great gods and the devils in a matter of moments.
ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਚੜੈ ਹੌ ਨਿਸਾਕਰ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਮੈ ਰਵਿ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੈ ਹੌ ॥
dayos ke beech charrai hau nisaakar rain samai rav ko pragattai hau |
‘I have produced the Moon during day and the Sun when it was dark.
ਗ︀ਯਾਰਹ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੌ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਕੌ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੌ ਬਿਸਰੈਹੌ ॥੧੦॥
gayaarah rudran ko har kau bidh kee budh kau bidh sau bisaraihau |10|
‘I will invalidate the intelligence of eleven Ruderans (cry-babies ).’(10)
ਸੋ ਟਿਕਾ ਸੋ ਬੈਹਣਾ ਸੋਈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
so ttikaa so baihanaa soee deebaan |
The same mark on the forehead, the same throne, and the same Royal Court.
ਪਿਯੂ ਦਾਦੇ ਜੇਵਿਹਾ ਪੋਤਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
piyoo daade jevihaa potaa paravaan |
Just like the father and grandfather, the son is approved.
ਜਿਨਿ ਬਾਸਕੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੈ ਘਤਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਨੇਹੀ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
jin baasak netrai ghatiaa kar nehee taan |
He took the thousand-headed serpent as his churning string, and with the force of devotional love,
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਵਿਰੋਲਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਰੁ ਮਧਾਣੁ ॥
jin samund viroliaa kar mer madhaan |
he churned the ocean of the world with his churning stick, the Sumayr mountain.
ਚਉਦਹ ਰਤਨ ਨਿਕਾਲਿਅਨੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਚਾਨਾਣੁ ॥
chaudah ratan nikaalian keeton chaanaan |
He extracted the fourteen jewels, and brought forth the Divine Light.
ਘੋੜਾ ਕੀਤੋ ਸਹਜ ਦਾ ਜਤੁ ਕੀਓ ਪਲਾਣੁ ॥
ghorraa keeto sehaj daa jat keeo palaan |
He made intuition his horse, and chastity his saddle.
ਧਣਖੁ ਚੜਾਇਓ ਸਤ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਹੰਦਾ ਬਾਣੁ ॥
dhanakh charraaeo sat daa jas handaa baan |
He placed the arrow of the Lord's Praise in the bow of Truth.
ਕਲਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਧੂ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ਸਾ ਚੜਿਆ ਰੈ ਭਾਣੁ ॥
kal vich dhoo andhaar saa charriaa rai bhaan |
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, there was only pitch darkness. Then, He rose like the sun to illuminate the darkness.
ਸਤਹੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਜਮਾਇਓ ਸਤਹੁ ਛਾਵਾਣੁ ॥
satahu khet jamaaeo satahu chhaavaan |
He farms the field of Truth, and spreads out the canopy of Truth.
ਨਿਤ ਰਸੋਈ ਤੇਰੀਐ ਘਿਉ ਮੈਦਾ ਖਾਣੁ ॥
nit rasoee tereeai ghiau maidaa khaan |
Your kitchen always has ghee and flour to eat.
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾਂ ਸੁਝੀਓਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
chaare kunddaan sujheeos man meh sabad paravaan |
You understand the four corners of the universe; in your mind, the Word of the Shabad is approved and supreme.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
aavaa gaun nivaario kar nadar neesaan |
You eliminate the comings and goings of reincarnation, and bestow the insignia of Your Glance of Grace.
ਅਉਤਰਿਆ ਅਉਤਾਰੁ ਲੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
aautariaa aautaar lai so purakh sujaan |
You are the Avataar, the Incarnation of the all-knowing Primal Lord.
ਝਖੜਿ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਡੋਲਈ ਪਰਬਤੁ ਮੇਰਾਣੁ ॥
jhakharr vaau na ddolee parabat meraan |
You are not pushed or shaken by the storm and the wind; you are like the Sumayr Mountain.
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਹੂ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
jaanai birathaa jeea kee jaanee hoo jaan |
You know the inner state of the soul; You are the Knower of knowers.
ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਜਾਂ ਤੂ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
kiaa saalaahee sache paatisaah jaan too sugharr sujaan |
How can I praise You, O True Supreme King, when You are so wise and all-knowing?
ਦਾਨੁ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਸੋ ਸਤੇ ਦਾਣੁ ॥
daan ji satigur bhaavasee so sate daan |

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੰਦਾ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਉਮਤਿ ਹੈਰਾਣੁ ॥
naanak handaa chhatru sir umat hairaan |
Seeing Nanak's canopy waving over Your head, everyone was astonished.
ਸੋ ਟਿਕਾ ਸੋ ਬੈਹਣਾ ਸੋਈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
so ttikaa so baihanaa soee deebaan |

ਪਿਯੂ ਦਾਦੇ ਜੇਵਿਹਾ ਪੋਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੬॥

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਤਿਨੈ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
dhan dhan raamadaas gur jin siriaa tinai savaariaa |
Blessed, blessed is Guru Raam Daas; He who created You, has also exalted You.
ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
pooree hoee karaamaat aap sirajanahaarai dhaariaa |
Perfect is Your miracle; the Creator Lord Himself has installed You on the throne.
ਸਿਖੀ ਅਤੈ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
sikhee atai sangatee paarabraham kar namasakaariaa |

ਅਟਲੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਤੂ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
attal athaahu atol too teraa ant na paaraavaariaa |
You are unchanging, unfathomable and immeasurable; You have no end or limitation.
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
jinaee toon seviaa bhaau kar se tudh paar utaariaa |
Those who serve You with love - You carry them across.
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਪਰਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
lab lobh kaam krodh mohu maar kadte tudh saparavaariaa |
Greed, envy, sexual desire, anger and emotional attachment - You have beaten them and driven them out.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਸਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
dhan su teraa thaan hai sach teraa paisakaariaa |
Blessed is Your place, and True is Your magnificent glory.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੂ ਲਹਣਾ ਤੂਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਤੂ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
naanak too lahanaa toohai gur amar too veechaariaa |
You are Nanak, You are Angad, and You are Amar Daas; so do I recognize You.
ਗੁਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
gur dditthaa taan man saadhaariaa |7|
When I saw the Guru, then my mind was comforted and consoled. ||7||
ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਗੇ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਪੰਚਾਇਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਆ ॥
chaare jaage chahu jugee panchaaein aape hoaa |
The four Gurus enlightened the four ages; the Lord Himself assumed the fifth form.
ਆਪੀਨੑੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਾਜਿਓਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਥੰਮੑਿ ਖਲੋਆ ॥
aapeenai aap saajion aape hee thama khaloaa |
He created Himself, and He Himself is the supporting pillar.
ਆਪੇ ਪਟੀ ਕਲਮ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਣਹਾਰਾ ਹੋਆ ॥
aape pattee kalam aap aap likhanahaaraa hoaa |
He Himself is the paper, He Himself is the pen, and He Himself is the writer.
ਸਭ ਉਮਤਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਨਵਾ ਨਿਰੋਆ ॥
sabh umat aavan jaavanee aape hee navaa niroaa |
All His followers come and go; He alone is fresh and new.
ਤਖਤਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਅਰਜਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਖਿਵੈ ਚੰਦੋਆ ॥
takhat baitthaa arajan guroo satigur kaa khivai chandoaa |
Guru Arjun sits on the throne; the royal canopy waves over the True Guru.
ਉਗਵਣਹੁ ਤੈ ਆਥਵਣਹੁ ਚਹੁ ਚਕੀ ਕੀਅਨੁ ਲੋਆ ॥
augavanahu tai aathavanahu chahu chakee keean loaa |
From east to west, He illuminates the four directions.
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਪਇਆ ਮੋਆ ॥
jinaee guroo na sevio manamukhaa peaa moaa |
Those self-willed manmukhs who do not serve the Guru die in shame.
ਦੂਣੀ ਚਉਣੀ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਿ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਸਚਾ ਢੋਆ ॥
doonee chaunee karaamaat sache kaa sachaa dtoaa |
Your miracles increase two-fold, even four-fold; this is the True Lord's true blessing.
ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਗੇ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਪੰਚਾਇਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਆ ॥੮॥੧॥

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਲਾਲਨਿ ਲਾਹਨਿ ਮੇਲਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁੜੁ ਕੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥
kaaeaa kalaalan laahan melau gur kaa sabad gurr keen re |
Make your body the vat, and mix in the yeast. Let the Word of the Guru's Shabad be the molasses.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਸੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
trisanaa kaam krodh mad matasar kaatt kaatt kas deen re |1|
Cut up desire, sexuality, anger, pride and envy, and let them be the fermenting bark. ||1||
ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਸੰਤੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਦੇਉ ਦਲਾਲੀ ਰੇ ॥
koee hai re sant sehaj sukh antar jaa kau jap tap deo dalaalee re |
Is there any Saint, with intuitive peace and poise deep within, unto whom I might offer my meditation and austerities as payment?
ਏਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਭਰਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਜੋ ਮਦੁ ਦੇਇ ਕਲਾਲੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ek boond bhar tan man devau jo mad dee kalaalee re |1| rahaau |
I dedicate my body and mind to whoever gives me even a drop of this wine from such a vat. ||1||Pause||
ਭਵਨ ਚਤੁਰ ਦਸ ਭਾਠੀ ਕੀਨੑੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥
bhavan chatur das bhaatthee keenaee braham agan tan jaaree re |
I have made the fourteen worlds the furnace, and I have burnt my body with the fire of God.
ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਦਕ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਪੋਚਨਹਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥
mudraa madak sehaj dhun laagee sukhaman pochanahaaree re |2|
My mudra - my hand-gesture, is the pipe; tuning into the celestial sound current within, the Shushmanaa - the central spinal channel, is my cooling pad. ||2||
ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਗਹਨੈ ਦੇਉ ਰੇ ॥
teerath barat nem such sanjam rav sas gahanai deo re |
Pilgrimages, fasting, vows, purifications, self-discipline, austerities and breath control through the sun and moon channels - all these I pledge.
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਿਆਲ ਸੁਧਾ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਏਹੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੇਉ ਰੇ ॥੩॥
surat piaal sudhaa ras amrit ehu mahaa ras peo re |3|
My focused consciousness is the cup, and the Ambrosial Nectar is the pure juice. I drink in the supreme, sublime essence of this juice. ||3||
ਨਿਝਰ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਇਹ ਰਸ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਾਤੋ ਰੇ ॥
nijhar dhaar chuai at niramal ih ras manooaa raato re |
The pure stream constantly trickles forth, and my mind is intoxicated by this sublime essence.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸਗਲੇ ਮਦ ਛੂਛੇ ਇਹੈ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥
keh kabeer sagale mad chhoochhe ihai mahaa ras saacho re |4|1|
Says Kabeer, all other wines are trivial and tasteless; this is the only true, sublime essence. ||4||1||
