ਸਭਹਿਨ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਤ ਤਿਸੈ ਲਯੋ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਚੜਾਇ ॥
sabhahin ke dekhat tisai layo bivaan charraae |
While every body was warching, he made her to occupy the palanquin.
ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਰਿਯੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਿਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੨੮॥
eih charitr taa ko bariyo raanee kiyo banaae |28|
With such a deception he made her his Rani.(28)(1)

ਬਿਸਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਡੋ ਬੰਗਸ ਮੈ ਬਡਭਾਗ ॥

Bishan Singh was a prominent Raja in the country of Bang.
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਸੌ ਲਾਗ ॥੧॥
aooch neech taa kai prajaa rahee charan sau laag |1|
All, high and low, would bow to him to convey their humility.(1)

Krishna Kunwar was his principal Rani; she looked like being churned out of the sea of milk.
ਨੈਨ ਦਿਪੈ ਨੀਕੇ ਕਜਰਾਰੇ ॥
nain dipai neeke kajaraare |
ਲਖੇ ਹੋਤ ਲਲਨਾ ਮਤਵਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
lakhe hot lalanaa matavaare |2|
Glancing at her eyes, laced with eye-lashers, many husbands got highly charmed.(2)

ਰੂਪ ਦਿਪੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਅਮਿਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

Her features were most attractive and earned lot of compliments.
ਹੇਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਬਧ︀ਯੌ ਸਕਤ ਨ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਬਾਰ ॥੩॥
her raae ko chit badhayau sakat na bahur ubaar |3|
Raja’s heart was induced by her looks and he was absolutely entangled.(3)

ਤਾ ਸੌ ਨੇਹ ਰਾਵ ਕੋ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

ਨ੍ਰਿਪਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਚਾਹਤ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ॥
nripahoon ko at chaahat payaaree |
She loved Raja too, which enhanced Raja’s love for her.
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭੀ ਐਸੀ ॥
duhoonan param preet bhee aisee |
ਸੀਤਾ ਸੋ ਰਘੁਨਾਥਨ ਵੈਸੀ ॥੪॥
seetaa so raghunaathan vaisee |4|
The love of both of them was epitome of the love of (legendary) Sita and Rama.(4)
ਏਕ ਹੇਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਰਾਵ ਲੁਭਾਨੋ ॥

ਨਿਜੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੰਗ ਨੇਹ ਘਟ ਮਾਨੋ ॥

Once, Raja was enticed coming across another woman and lessened his affection for the Rani.
ਜਬ ਇਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jab ih krisan kuar sun paaee |
ਰਾਜਾ ਪੈ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਖੁਨਸਾਈ ॥੫॥

When Krishna Kunwar realised this, she was infuriated.(5)
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਚਿਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਈ ॥

ਮਨ ਮੈ ਘਾਤ ਯਹੈ ਠਹਰਾਈ ॥
man mai ghaat yahai tthaharaaee |
Krishna Kunwar was enraged and she decided in her mind,
ਦੁਹਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਆਜੁ ਸੁ ਕਰਿਹੋ ॥
duhakar kar mai aaj su kariho |
ਨ੍ਰਿਪਹ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਪੁਨਿ ਮਰਿਹੋ ॥੬॥
nripah sanghaar aap pun mariho |6|
‘I will undertake the arduous job of killing Raja and annihilate myself.(6)

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਭੂਮਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਲੀ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਿਸੂਲਾ ਬਾਗੁ ॥
fareedaa bhoom rangaavalee manjh visoolaa baag |
Fareed, this world is beautiful, but there is a thorny garden within it.
ਜੋ ਨਰ ਪੀਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਅੰਚ ਨ ਲਾਗ ॥੧॥
jo nar peer nivaajiaa tinaa anch na laag |1|
Those who are blessed by their spiritual teacher are not even scratched. ||1||

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਉਮਰ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਵੰਨੜੀ ਦੇਹ ॥

Fareed, blessed is the life, with such a beautiful body.
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਪਾਈਅਨੑਿ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੇਹ ॥੨॥

How rare are those who are found to love their Beloved Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jap tap sanjam deaa dharam jis dehi su paae |
He alone obtains meditation, austerities, self-discipline, compassion and Dharmic faith, whom the Lord so blesses.
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਹਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
jis bujhaaeihi agan aap so naam dhiaae |
He alone meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, whose fire the Lord puts out.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥
antarajaamee agam purakh ik drisatt dikhaae |
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Inaccessible Primal Lord, inspires us to look upon all with an impartial eye.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਆਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
saadhasangat kai aasarai prabh siau rang laae |
With the support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one falls in love with God.
ਅਉਗਣ ਕਟਿ ਮੁਖੁ ਉਜਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਏ ॥
aaugan katt mukh ujalaa har naam taraae |
One's faults are eradicated, and one's face becomes radiant and bright; through the Lord's Name, one crosses over.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਉ ਕਟਿਓਨੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
janam maran bhau kattion fir jon na paae |
The fear of birth and death is removed, and he is not reincarnated again.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਅਨੁ ਲੜੁ ਆਪਿ ਫੜਾਏ ॥
andh koop te kaadtian larr aap farraae |
God lifts him up and pulls him out of the deep, dark pit, and attaches him to the hem of His robe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੨੧॥
naanak bakhas milaaeian rakhe gal laae |21|
O Nanak, God forgives him, and holds him close in His embrace. ||21||

ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਦੀ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਿ ॥
muhabat jis khudaae dee rataa rang chalool |
One who loves God is imbued with the deep crimson color of His love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਮੂਲਿ ॥੧॥
naanak virale paaeeeh tis jan keem na mool |1|
O Nanak, such a person is rarely found; the value of such a humble person can never be estimated. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਵਿਧਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਡਿਠੋਮਿ ॥
andar vidhaa sach naae baahar bhee sach dditthom |
The True Name has pierced the nucleus of my self deep within. Outside, I see the True Lord as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਿਆ ਹਭ ਥਾਇ ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰੋਮਿ ॥੨॥
naanak raviaa habh thaae van trin tribhavan rom |2|
O Nanak, He is pervading and permeating all places, the forests and the meadows, the three worlds, and every hair. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋ ਰਚਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਤਿਆ ॥
aape keeto rachan aape hee ratiaa |
He Himself created the Universe; He Himself imbues it.
ਆਪੇ ਹੋਇਓ ਇਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਤਿਆ ॥
aape hoeo ik aape bahu bhatiaa |
He Himself is One, and He Himself has numerous forms.
ਆਪੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥
aape sabhanaa manjh aape baaharaa |
He Himself is within all, and He Himself is beyond them.
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥
aape jaaneh door aape hee jaaharaa |
He Himself is known to be far away, and He Himself is right here.
ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਗਟੀਐ ॥
aape hoveh gupat aape paragatteeai |
He Himself is hidden, and He Himself is revealed.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਟੀਐ ॥
keemat kisai na paae teree thatteeai |
No one can estimate the value of Your Creation, Lord.
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਗਣਤੁ ਤੂੰ ॥
gahir ganbheer athaahu apaar aganat toon |
You are deep and profound, unfathomable, infinite and invaluable.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨੨॥੧॥੨॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥

ਨਾਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਦਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਬੋਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋਖੀਵਦੈ ॥
naau karataa kaadar kare kiau bol hovai jokheevadai |
One who chants the Name of the Almighty Creator - how can his words be judged?
ਦੇ ਗੁਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਭੈਣ ਭਰਾਵ ਹੈ ਪਾਰੰਗਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਪੜੀਵਦੈ ॥
de gunaa sat bhain bharaav hai paarangat daan parreevadai |
His divine virtues are the true sisters and brothers; through them, the gift of supreme status is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਤਾਣੀ ਨੀਵ ਦੈ ॥
naanak raaj chalaaeaa sach kott sataanee neev dai |
Nanak established the kingdom; He built the true fortress on the strongest foundations.
ਲਹਣੇ ਧਰਿਓਨੁ ਛਤੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਦੈ ॥
lahane dharion chhat sir kar sifatee amrit peevadai |
He installed the royal canopy over Lehna's head; chanting the Lord's Praises, He drank in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਖੜਗਿ ਜੋਰਿ ਪਰਾਕੁਇ ਜੀਅ ਦੈ ॥
mat gur aatam dev dee kharrag jor paraakue jeea dai |
The Guru implanted the almighty sword of the Teachings to illuminate his soul.
ਗੁਰਿ ਚੇਲੇ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਕੀਈ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਥੀਵਦੈ ॥
gur chele raharaas keeee naanak salaamat theevadai |
The Guru bowed down to His disciple, while Nanak was still alive.
ਸਹਿ ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿਤੋਸੁ ਜੀਵਦੈ ॥੧॥
seh ttikaa ditos jeevadai |1|
The King, while still alive, applied the ceremonial mark to his forehead. ||1||
ਲਹਣੇ ਦੀ ਫੇਰਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੋਹੀ ਖਟੀਐ ॥
lahane dee feraaeeai naanakaa dohee khatteeai |
Nanak proclaimed Lehna's succession - he earned it.
ਜੋਤਿ ਓਹਾ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਾਇ ਸਹਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਪਲਟੀਐ ॥
jot ohaa jugat saae seh kaaeaa fer palatteeai |
They shared the One Light and the same way; the King just changed His body.
ਝੁਲੈ ਸੁ ਛਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੀ ਮਲਿ ਤਖਤੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਹਟੀਐ ॥
jhulai su chhat niranjanee mal takhat baitthaa gur hatteeai |
The immaculate canopy waves over Him, and He sits on the throne in the Guru's shop.
ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਸਿਲ ਜੋਗੁ ਅਲੂਣੀ ਚਟੀਐ ॥
kareh ji gur furamaaeaa sil jog aloonee chatteeai |
He does as the Guru commands; He tasted the tasteless stone of Yoga.
ਲੰਗਰੁ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਖਟੀਐ ॥
langar chalai gur sabad har tott na aavee khatteeai |
The Langar - the Kitchen of the Guru's Shabad has been opened, and its supplies never run short.
ਖਰਚੇ ਦਿਤਿ ਖਸੰਮ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਖਹਦੀ ਖੈਰਿ ਦਬਟੀਐ ॥
kharache dit khasam dee aap khahadee khair dabatteeai |
Whatever His Master gave, He spent; He distributed it all to be eaten.
ਹੋਵੈ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਖਸੰਮ ਦੀ ਨੂਰੁ ਅਰਸਹੁ ਕੁਰਸਹੁ ਝਟੀਐ ॥
hovai sifat khasam dee noor arasahu kurasahu jhatteeai |
The Praises of the Master were sung, and the Divine Light descended from the heavens to the earth.
ਤੁਧੁ ਡਿਠੇ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਮਲੁ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਕਟੀਐ ॥
tudh dditthe sache paatisaah mal janam janam dee katteeai |
Gazing upon You, O True King, the filth of countless past lives is washed away.
ਸਚੁ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਏਦੂ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਹਟੀਐ ॥
sach ji gur furamaaeaa kiau edoo bolahu hatteeai |
The Guru gave the True Command; why should we hesitate to proclaim this?
ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਉਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਲਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਪੀਰਹੁ ਕੰਨੑ ਮੁਰਟੀਐ ॥
putree kaul na paalio kar peerahu kana muratteeai |
His sons did not obey His Word; they turned their backs on Him as Guru.
ਦਿਲਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਆਕੀ ਫਿਰਨੑਿ ਬੰਨੑਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਚਾਇਨੑਿ ਛਟੀਐ ॥
dil khottai aakee firana bana bhaar uchaaeina chhatteeai |
These evil-hearted ones became rebellious; they carry loads of sin on their backs.
ਜਿਨਿ ਆਖੀ ਸੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਨੈ ਥਟੀਐ ॥
jin aakhee soee kare jin keetee tinai thatteeai |
Whatever the Guru said, Lehna did, and so he was installed on the throne.
ਕਉਣੁ ਹਾਰੇ ਕਿਨਿ ਉਵਟੀਐ ॥੨॥

Who has lost, and who has won? ||2||
