ਬਿਹਸਿ ਕੁਅਰ ਯੌ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥

ਸੋਕ ਕਰੋ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਲ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥
sok karo neh baal hamaaro |
But Kumar said jovially, ‘Don’t worry about me.
ਹੌ ਅਬ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਯਹਿ ਕਰਿਹੋ ॥
hau ab ek upaayeh kariho |
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਸੋਕ ਨਿਵਰਿਹੋ ॥੪੦॥
jaa te tumaro sok nivariho |40|
‘I will find a way which will eradicate your affliction.’(40)
ਹਮਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਸੋਕ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
hamaro kachhoo sok neh keejai |
ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਆਨਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
teer kamaan aan muhi deejai |
‘Please don’t worry about me,just get me a bow and arrow.
ਮੁਹਕਮ ਕੈ ਦਰਵਾਜੋ ਦ੍ਰਯਾਵਹੁ ॥
muhakam kai daravaajo drayaavahu |
ਯਾ ਆਂਗਨ ਮਹਿ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਛਾਵਹੁ ॥੪੧॥
yaa aangan meh sej bichhaavahu |41|
‘Close the door tightly and lay down a bed in the courtyard.’(41)
ਵਹੈ ਕਾਮ ਅਬਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
vahai kaam abalaa tin kiyo |
ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
teer kamaan aan tih diyo |
The woman abided by accordingly and brought him a bow and arrow.
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੌ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਛਾਈ ॥
bhalee bhaat sau sej bichhaaee |
ਤਾ ਪਰ ਮੀਤ ਲਯੋ ਬੈਠਾਈ ॥੪੨॥
taa par meet layo baitthaaee |42|
Elegantly she bedecked a bed and over it made the lover to sit.(42)

ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਿਯ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥

Contemplating thus, she thought in her mind,
ਜੀਯੋ ਤ ਪਿਯ ਕੇ ਸਹਿਤ ਹੀ ਮਰੌ ਤ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਪਾਸ ॥੪੩॥
jeeyo ta piy ke sahit hee marau ta pat ke paas |43|
‘I will live or die with my lover.’(43)

ਪਲਕਾ ਪਰ ਮੀਤਹਿ ਬੈਠਾਯੋ ॥

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੌ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat sau kel kamaayo |
She gave him loving looks and made love in various manners.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਨ ਭਰਹੀ ॥
bhaat bhaat ke bhogan bharahee |
ਜਿਯ ਅਪਨੇ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਕਰਹੀ ॥੪੪॥
jiy apane ko traas na karahee |44|
While gratifying themselves with love-making, they dreaded not at all.(44)
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਚਕ੍ਰਵਾਕ ਦੋ ਆਏ ॥
tab lau chakravaak do aae |
ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
raaj kumaar drigan lakh paae |
There appeared two ruddy sheldrakes (very big birds) that were seen by Raj Kumar.
ਏਕ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਨਿ ਬਾਨ ਸੌ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
ek dhan taan baan sau maariyo |
ਦੁਤਿਯਾ ਹਾਥ ਸਰ ਦੁਤਿਯ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੪੫॥
dutiyaa haath sar dutiy prahaariyo |45|
One he killed with the bow, and the other, he finished with an arrow held in his hands.(45)
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਸਰਨ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਬਧ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
duhoon saran duhoonan badh keeno |
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਭੂੰਨਿ ਛਿਨਿਕ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
duhoonan bhoon chhinik meh leeno |
With two arrows he destroyed both and they roasted them immediately.
ਤਿਨ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਕੋ ਖਾਯੋ ॥
tin duhoonan duhoonan ko khaayo |
ਸੰਕ ਛੋਰਿ ਪੁਨ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥੪੬॥
sank chhor pun kel kamaayo |46|
They both ate both of them, then, fearlessly enjoyed the sex.(46)

After relishing them they took off their skins.
ਪਹਿਰਿ ਦੁਹੁਨ ਸਿਰ ਪੈ ਲਯੋ ਪੈਠੇ ਨਦੀ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥੪੭॥
pahir duhun sir pai layo paitthe nadee majhaar |47|
Putting those on their heads, they jumped into the river.(47)

Every body took them as birds and never thought they could be humans.
ਪੈਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਕੋਸਨ ਲਗਿ ਗਏ ॥
pairat bahu kosan lag ge |
ਲਾਗਤ ਏਕ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਭਏ ॥੪੮॥
laagat ek kinaare bhe |48|
Swimming and swirling they went a long way and touched the bank.(48)
ਦੋ ਹੈ ਦੋਊ ਅਰੂੜਿਤ ਭਏ ॥
do hai doaoo aroorrit bhe |
ਚਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਸ ਆਪਨੇ ਗਏ ॥

They engaged two horses and travelled to their country.
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਪਟਰਾਨੀ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
taa kau lai pattaraanee keeno |
ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੪੯॥
chit ko sok door kar deeno |49|
Retaining her as his principal Rani, he obliterated all his agonies.(49)

Wearing the skins of birds, they had escaped the looks of her father.
ਪੰਖੀ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਲਖੈ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਲਖ︀ਯੋ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫੦॥
pankhee hee sabh ko lakhai maanukh lakhayo na jaae |50|
Every body considered them as the birds and none could guess that they were humans.(50)
ਦੇਸ ਆਨਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਬਸੇ ਤਿਯ ਕੋ ਸਦਨ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
des aan apane base tiy ko sadan banaae |
‘They had come to their own country now,
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਰਮੈ ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਾਇ ॥੫੧॥
bhaat bhaat taa so ramai nis din mod badtaae |51|
And day and night blissfully enjoyed love-making.(51)(1)

Soor Chand was the king of Sammar Kand;
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਲਿ ਨਰੇਸ ਕੋ ਔਰ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
taa ke tul nares ko aauar jagat mai naeh |1|
there had been none other like him.(1)
ਚਿਤ੍ਰਕਲਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਹੁਤੀ ਬਡਭਾਗਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਠੌਰ ॥
chitrakalaa raanee hutee baddabhaagan tih tthauar |
Chatar Kala was his Rani; she was very fortunate.
ਰੂਪ ਸੀਲ ਲਜਾ ਗੁਨਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਔਰ ॥੨॥
roop seel lajaa gunan taa ke tul na aauar |2|
In beauty, serenity and modesty no body could beat her.(2)

ਸਭੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਭੁਲੀਐ ॥
sabhe dukh santaap jaan tudhahu bhuleeai |
When I forget You, I endure all pains and afflictions.
ਜੇ ਕੀਚਨਿ ਲਖ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਾਂ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਘੁਲੀਐ ॥
je keechan lakh upaav taan kahee na ghuleeai |
Making thousands of efforts, they are still not eliminated.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis no visarai naau su niradhan kaandteeai |
One who forgets the Name, is known as a poor person.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਹਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis no visarai naau su jonee haandteeai |
One who forgets the Name, wanders in reincarnation.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਮੁ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੇ ॥
jis khasam na aavai chit tis jam ddandd de |
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is punished by the Messenger of Death.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਰੋਗੀ ਸੇ ਗਣੇ ॥
jis khasam na aavee chit rogee se gane |
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is judged to be a sick person.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੁ ਖਰੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ॥
jis khasam na aavee chit su kharo ahankaareea |
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is egotistical and proud.
ਸੋਈ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਗਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਆ ॥੧੪॥
soee duhelaa jag jin naau visaareea |14|
One who forgets the Name is miserable in this world. ||14||

ਤੈਡੀ ਬੰਦਸਿ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਡਿਠਾ ਤੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
taiddee bandas mai koe na dditthaa too naanak man bhaanaa |
I have not seen any other like You. You alone are pleasing to Nanak's mind.
ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ ਜੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
ghol ghumaaee tis mitr vichole jai mil kant pachhaanaa |1|
I am a dedicated, devoted sacrifice to that friend, that mediator, who leads me to recognize my Husband Lord. ||1||

paav suhaave jaan tau dhir julade sees suhaavaa charanee |
Beautiful are those feet which walk towards You; beautiful is that head which falls at Your Feet.
ਮੁਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਜਾਂ ਤਉ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ਪਇਆ ਤਉ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੨॥
mukh suhaavaa jaan tau jas gaavai jeeo peaa tau saranee |2|
Beautiful is that mouth which sings Your Praises; beautiful is that soul which seeks Your Sanctuary. ||2||

Meeting the Lord's brides, in the True Congregation, I sing the songs of joy.
ਘਰ ਕਾ ਹੋਆ ਬੰਧਾਨੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਧਾਵੀਆ ॥
ghar kaa hoaa bandhaan bahurr na dhaaveea |
The home of my heart is now held steady, and I shall not go out wandering again.
ਬਿਨਠੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਸੋਇ ਕੂੜਾਵੀਆ ॥
binatthee duramat durat soe koorraaveea |
Evil-mindedness has been dispelled, along with sin and my bad reputation.
ਸੀਲਵੰਤਿ ਪਰਧਾਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਚਾਵੀਆ ॥
seelavant paradhaan ridai sachaaveea |
I am well-known as being calm and good-natured; my heart is filled with Truth.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਇਕ ਰੀਤਾਵੀਆ ॥
antar baahar ik ik reetaaveea |
Inwardly and outwardly, the One and only Lord is my way.
ਮਨਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਚਰਣ ਦਾਸਾਵੀਆ ॥
man darasan kee piaas charan daasaaveea |
My mind is thirsty for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. I am a slave at His feet.
ਸੋਭਾ ਬਣੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਖਸਮਿ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਵੀਆ ॥
sobhaa banee seegaar khasam jaan raaveea |
I am glorified and embellished, when my Lord and Master enjoys me.
ਮਿਲੀਆ ਆਇ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਜਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੀਆ ॥੧੫॥
mileea aae sanjog jaan tis bhaaveea |15|
I meet Him through my blessed destiny, when it is pleasing to His Will. ||15||

ਹਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੈਡੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਉ ਮੈ ਕੂ ਥੀਏ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
habh gun taidde naanak jeeo mai koo thee mai niragun te kiaa hovai |
All virtues are Yours, Dear Lord; You bestow them upon us. I am unworthy - what can I achieve, O Nanak?
ਤਉ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਚਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਚੋਵੈ ॥੧॥
tau jevadd daataar na koee jaachak sadaa jaachovai |1|
There is no other Giver as great as You. I am a beggar; I beg from You forever. ||1||

ਦੇਹ ਛਿਜੰਦੜੀ ਊਣ ਮਝੂਣਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਜਣਿ ਜੀਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥
deh chhijandarree aoon majhoonaa gur sajan jeeo dharaaeaa |
My body was wasting away, and I was depressed. The Guru, my Friend, has encouraged and consoled me.
ਹਭੇ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਹੇਲੜਾ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਿਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
habhe sukh suhelarraa sutaa jitaa jag sabaaeaa |2|
I sleep in total peace and comfort; I have conquered the whole world. ||2||

ਵਡਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਤਖਤੁ ॥
vaddaa teraa darabaar sachaa tudh takhat |
The Darbaar of Your Court is glorious and great. Your holy throne is True.
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚਉਰੁ ਛਤੁ ॥
sir saahaa paatisaahu nihachal chaur chhat |
You are the Emperor over the heads of kings. Your canopy and chauree (fly-brush) are permanent and unchanging.
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ॥
jo bhaavai paarabraham soee sach niaau |
That alone is true justice, which is pleasing to the Will of the Supreme Lord God.
ਜੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
je bhaavai paarabraham nithaave milai thaau |
Even the homeless receive a home, when it is pleasing to the Will of the Supreme Lord God.
ਜੋ ਕੀਨੑੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਗਲ ॥
jo keenaee karataar saaee bhalee gal |
Whatever the Creator Lord does, is a good thing.
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਸੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਮਲ ॥
jinaee pachhaataa khasam se daragaah mal |
Those who recognize their Lord and Master, are seated in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀਐ ॥
sahee teraa furamaan kinai na fereeai |
True is Your Command; no one can challenge it.
ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੀਐ ॥੧੬॥
kaaran karan kareem kudarat tereeai |16|
O Merciful Lord, Cause of causes, Your creative power is all-powerful. ||16||

soe sunandarree meraa tan man maulaa naam japandarree laalee |
Hearing of You, my body and mind have blossomed forth; chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am flushed with life.
ਪੰਧਿ ਜੁਲੰਦੜੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਠੰਢਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥੧॥
pandh julandarree meraa andar tthandtaa gur darasan dekh nihaalee |1|
Walking on the Path, I have found cool tranquility deep within; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I am enraptured. ||1||

ਹਠ ਮੰਝਾਹੂ ਮੈ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਧਾ ॥
hatth manjhaahoo mai maanak ladhaa |
I have found the jewel within my heart.
ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਘਿਧਾ ਮੈ ਕੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ॥
mul na ghidhaa mai koo satigur ditaa |
I was not charged for it; the True Guru gave it to me.
ਢੂੰਢ ਵਞਾਈ ਥੀਆ ਥਿਤਾ ॥
dtoondt vayaaee theea thitaa |
My search has ended, and I have become stable.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤਾ ॥੨॥
janam padaarath naanak jitaa |2|
O Nanak, I have conquered this priceless human life. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

One who has such good karma inscribed upon his forehead, is committed to the Lord's service.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
jis gur mil kamal pragaasiaa so anadin jaagaa |
One whose heart lotus blossoms forth upon meeting the Guru, remains awake and aware, night and day.
ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
lagaa rang charanaarabind sabh bhram bhau bhaagaa |
All doubt and fear run away from one who is in love with the Lord's lotus feet.
ਆਤਮੁ ਜਿਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਗੰਜਤ ਪਾਗਾ ॥
aatam jitaa guramatee aaganjat paagaa |
He conquers his soul, following the Guru's Teachings, and attains the Imperishable Lord.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੋ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਗਾ ॥
jiseh dhiaaeaa paarabraham so kal meh taagaa |
He alone keeps up in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, who meditates on the Supreme Lord God.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨਾਗਾ ॥
saadhoo sangat niramalaa atthasatth majanaagaa |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he is immaculate, as if he has bathed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
jis prabh miliaa aapanaa so purakh sabhaagaa |
He alone is a man of good fortune, who has met with God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਵਡ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧੭॥
naanak tis balihaaranai jis evadd bhaagaa |17|
Nanak is a sacrifice to such a one, whose destiny is so great! ||17||
