She decorated her body with many arms and they all were getting praiseworthy looks.
ਹੀਰਨ ਕੀ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਜਗ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
heeran kee mukataa jag sohai |
ਸਸਿ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
sas ko mano taarikaa mohai |10|
Like the necklace of diamonds, she captivated the world. Like the Moon she enchanted everybody.(10)

ਲਾਲ ਕੋ ਹਾਰ ਲਸੈ ਉਰ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਭਾਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੁ ਬਡੇ ਛਬਿਯਾਰੇ ॥
laal ko haar lasai ur bheetar bhaan te jaan badde chhabiyaare |
ਮੋਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਲਰਕੈ ਮੁਖ ਪੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਨੈਨਿ ਫਬੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਸੇ ਕਜਰਾਰੇ ॥
motin kee larakai mukh pai mriganain fabe mrig se kajaraare |
ਮੋਹਤ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਚਿਤੈ ਨਿਜ ਹਾਥ ਮਨੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਸੁਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੧॥
mohat hai sabh hee ke chitai nij haath mano brijanaath sudhaare |11|
ਛੋਰਿ ਦਏ ਕਚ ਕਾਧਨ ਊਪਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਗ ਸੌ ਸੀਸ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
chhor de kach kaadhan aoopar sundar paag sau sees suhaavai |
With hair scattered over her shoulders, the turban looked charming on her head.
ਭੂਖਨ ਚਾਰੁ ਲਸੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਗਨ ਭਾਗ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕਹ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
bhookhan chaar lasai sabh angan bhaag bhariyo sabh hee keh bhaavai |
With ornaments sparking on her body, that ‘man’ charmed every person.
ਬਾਲ ਲਖੈ ਕਹਿ ਲਾਲ ਤਿਸੈ ਲਟਕਾਵਤ ਅੰਗਨ ਮੈ ਜਬ ਆਵੈ ॥
baal lakhai keh laal tisai lattakaavat angan mai jab aavai |
When she came forward to their courtyards, swinging her posture, the woman felt her fascination.
ਰੀਝਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੁਰੀ ਅਸੁਰੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਤ ਹੂ ਛੁਟ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧੨॥
reejhat kott suree asuree sudh her chhuttai sat hoo chhutt jaavai |12|
Seeing the prostitUte in the guise of a man, thousands of the wives of the gods and the devils felt blissful.(12)
ਭੂਖਨ ਧਾਰਿ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਰਥ ਊਪਰਿ ਬਾਧਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਨਿਖੰਗ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
bhookhan dhaar charriyo rath aoopar baadh kripaan nikhang banaayo |
With ornaments on her body she climbed up the chariot brandishing with the sword and the bow.
ਖਾਤ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਰਮਾਯੋ ॥
khaat tanbol biraajat sundar dev adevan ko biramaayo |
While eating beetle-nuts she put all the gods and devils in whim.
ਬਾਸ ਵ ਨੈਨ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰਨ ਸੌ ਛਬਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
baas v nain sahansran sau chhab her rahiyo kachh paar na paayo |
In spite oflooking with his thousands of eyes, Lord Indra could not fathom her beauty.
ਆਪੁ ਬਨਾਇ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਕੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਐਚਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਦੁਤਿ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੩॥
aap banaae anoopam ko bidh aich rahiyo dut ant na paayo |13|
Brahma, the creator, creating her Himself, could not attain her anention.(13)
ਪਾਨ ਚਬਾਇ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਥ ਜਰਾਇ ਜਰੈ ਹਥਿਯਾਰ ਬਨਾਏ ॥

ਅੰਜਨ ਆਂਜਿ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਬਿਰਮਾਏ ॥

ਕੰਠ ਸਿਰੀਮਨਿ ਕੰਕਨ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਹਾਰ ਸੁ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੀਏ ਪਹਿਰਾਏ ॥
kantth sireeman kankan kunddal haar su naar hee pahiraae |
ਕਿੰਨਰ ਜਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਦਿਸਾ ਬਿਦਿਸਾਨ ਕੈ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਲੋਕਿਨ ਆਏ ॥੧੪॥
kinar jachh bhujang disaa bidisaan kai lok bilokin aae |14|
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਬਿਲੋਚਨ ਸੌ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਛਬਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
eindr sahansr bilochan sau avilok rahiyo chhab ant na aayo |
ਸੇਖ ਅਸੇਖਨ ਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਸੌ ਗੁਨ ਭਾਖਿ ਰਹੋ ਪਰੁ ਪਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sekh asekhan hee mukh sau gun bhaakh raho par paar na paayo |
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਪਿਯਾਰੀ ਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੀ ਕੋਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਨ ਕੌ ਮੁਖ ਪੰਚ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
rudr piyaaree kee saaree kee kor nihaaran kau mukh panch banaayo |
ਪੂਤ ਕਿਯੇ ਖਟ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਧੈ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਯਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥੧੫॥

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੀਰ ਕਲਾਨਿਧਿ ਕੇਹਰ ਕੋਕ ਕਪੋਤ ਕਰੀ ਕੁਰਰਾਨੇ ॥
kanchan keer kalaanidh kehar kok kapot karee kuraraane |
ਕਲਪਦ੍ਰੁਮਕਾ ਅਨੁਜਾ ਕਮਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਰਿਮ ਦਾਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਕਾਨੇ ॥
kalapadrumakaa anujaa kamanee bin daarim daaman dekh bikaane |
ਰੀਝਤ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ਭਏ ਛਬਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥
reejhat dev adev sabhai nar dev bhe chhab her divaane |
ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਸੋ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੧੬॥

laalan ko sarapech badhayo sir motin kee ur maal biraajai |
ਭੂਖਨ ਚਾਰੁ ਦਿਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਦੁਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨੋਜਵ ਕੋ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਜੈ ॥
bhookhan chaar dipai at hee dut dekh manojav ko man laajai |
ਮੋਦ ਬਢੈ ਨਿਰਖੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਤਨਿਕੇਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਜੈ ॥
mod badtai nirakhe chit mai tanikek bikhai tan ko dukh bhaajai |
ਜੋਬਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗੈ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਸੁਰਰਾਜ ਸੁਰਾਨ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਰਾਜੈ ॥੧੮॥
joban jot jagai su mano suraraaj suraan ke bheetar raajai |18|
ਛੋਰੈ ਹੈ ਬੰਦ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਨ ਚਬਾਇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
chhorai hai band anoopam sundar paan chabaae singaar banaayo |
ਅੰਜਨ ਆਂਜਿ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਅਖਿਯਾਨ ਸੁ ਭਾਲ ਮੈ ਕੇਸਰਿ ਲਾਲ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
anjan aanj duhoon akhiyaan su bhaal mai kesar laal lagaayo |
ਝੂਮਕ ਦੇਤ ਝੁਕੈ ਝੁਮਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਰਾਮ ਸੁ ਭਾਵ ਭਲੋ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jhoomak det jhukai jhumake kab raam su bhaav bhalo lakh paayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸੌਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਇਕ ਬਾਰਹਿ ਬਾਧਿ ਕੈ ਜੇਲ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
maanahu sauatin ke man ko ik baareh baadh kai jel chalaayo |19|
ਹਾਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੇਸ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਿਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
haar singaar kare sabh hee tin kes chhutte sir sayaam suhaavai |
ਜੋਬਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੁਨਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਡਿਗੈ ਤਪ ਤੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥
joban jot jagai at hee mun her ddigai tap te pachhutaavai |
ਕਿੰਨਰ ਜਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਦਿਸਾ ਬਿਦਿਸਾਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਲ ਬਿਲੋਕਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
kinar jachh bhujang disaa bidisaan kee baal bilokan aavai |
ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵਨ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਹੇਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਬਲ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੨੦॥

ਐਸੋ ਭੇਖ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਪਿਯਾਨ ॥
aiso bhekh banaae kai teh te kariyo piyaan |
Disguising as such, she commenced her plan,
ਪਲਕ ਏਕ ਬੀਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚੀ ਆਨਿ ॥੨੧॥
palak ek beetee nahee tahaa pahoonchee aan |21|
And in a few moments she was there where she was destined to arrive.(21)

Pauree:
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੜੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਸਭਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥
kaaeaa andar garr kott hai sabh disantar desaa |
Deep within the body is the fortress of the Lord, and all lands and countries.
ਆਪੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
aape taarree laaeean sabh meh paravesaa |
He Himself sits in primal, profound Samaadhi; He Himself is all-pervading.
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਰਖੇਸਾ ॥
aape srisatt saajeean aap gupat rakhesaa |
He Himself created the Universe, and He Himself remains hidden within it.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਗਟੀਏਸਾ ॥
gur sevaa te jaaniaa sach paragatteesaa |
Serving the Guru, the Lord is known, and the Truth is revealed.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੬॥
sabh kichh sacho sach hai gur sojhee paaee |16|
He is True, the Truest of the True; the Guru has imparted this understanding. ||16||

saavan raat ahaarr dihu kaam krodh due khet |
Night is the summer season, and day is the winter season; sexual desire and anger are the two fields planted.
ਲਬੁ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਦਰੋਗੁ ਬੀਉ ਹਾਲੀ ਰਾਹਕੁ ਹੇਤ ॥
lab vatr darog beeo haalee raahak het |
Greed prepares the soil, and the seed of falsehood is planted; attachment and love are the farmer and hired hand.
ਹਲੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਣ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਖਟੇ ਖਾਇ ॥
hal beechaar vikaar man hukamee khatte khaae |
Contemplation is the plow, and corruption is the harvest; this is what one earns and eats, according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖੈ ਮੰਗਿਐ ਅਉਤੁ ਜਣੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak lekhai mangiai aaut janedaa jaae |1|
O Nanak, when one is called to give his account, he will be barren and infertile. ||1||

Make the Fear of God the farm, purity the water, truth and contentment the cows and bulls,
ਹਲੁ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਹਾਲੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਵਖਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
hal halemee haalee chit chetaa vatr vakhat sanjog |
humility the plow, consciousness the plowman, remembrance the preparation of the soil, and union with the Lord the planting time.
ਨਾਉ ਬੀਜੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਬੋਹਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਦਰੋਗ ॥
naau beej bakhasees bohal duneea sagal darog |
Let the Lord's Name be the seed, and His Forgiving Grace the harvest. Do this, and the whole world will seem false.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਜੋਗ ॥੨॥
naanak nadaree karam hoe jaaveh sagal vijog |2|
O Nanak, if He bestows His Merciful Glance of Grace, then all your separation will be ended. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
manamukh mohu gubaar hai doojai bhaae bolai |
The self-willed manmukh is trapped in the darkness of emotional attachment; in the love of duality he speaks.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਿਰੋਲੈ ॥
doojai bhaae sadaa dukh hai nit neer virolai |
The love of duality brings pain forever; he churns the water endlessly.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢੋਲੈ ॥
guramukh naam dhiaaeeai math tat kadtolai |
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he churns, and obtains the essence of reality.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਧਾ ਟੋਲੈ ॥
antar paragaas ghatt chaananaa har ladhaa ttolai |
The Divine Light illuminates his heart deep within; he seeks the Lord, and obtains Him.
ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੭॥
aape bharam bhulaaeidaa kichh kehan na jaaee |17|
He Himself deludes in doubt; no one can comment on this. ||17||

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੇਇ ॥
naanak chintaa mat karahu chintaa tis hee hee |
O Nanak, don't be anxious; the Lord will take care of you.
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਿ ਰੋਜੀ ਦੇਇ ॥
jal meh jant upaaeian tinaa bhi rojee dee |
He created the creatures in water, and He gives them their nourishment.
ਓਥੈ ਹਟੁ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਕਿਰਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
othai hatt na chalee naa ko kiras karee |
There are no stores open there, and no one farms there.
ਸਉਦਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਲਏ ਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
saudaa mool na hovee naa ko le na dee |
No business is ever transacted there, and no one buys or sells.
ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਹਾਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਖਾਣਾ ਏਹੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
jeea kaa aahaar jeea khaanaa ehu karee |
Animals eat other animals; this is what the Lord has given them as food.
ਵਿਚਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਸਾਇਰਾ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਿ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
vich upaae saaeiraa tinaa bhi saar karee |
He created them in the oceans, and He provides for them as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਤ ਕਰਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੇਇ ॥੧॥
naanak chintaa mat karahu chintaa tis hee hee |1|
O Nanak, don't be anxious; the Lord will take care of you. ||1||

O Nanak, this soul is the fish, and death is the hungry fisherman.
ਮਨੂਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਪੜੈ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
manooaa andh na chetee parrai achintaa jaal |
The blind man does not even think of this. And suddenly, the net is cast.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
naanak chit achet hai chintaa badhaa jaae |
O Nanak, his consciousness is unconscious, and he departs, bound by anxiety.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
nadar kare je aapanee taa aape le milaae |2|
But if the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then He unites the soul with Himself. ||2||

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਤਾ ॥
se jan saache sadaa sadaa jinee har ras peetaa |
They are true, forever true, who drink in the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
guramukh sachaa man vasai sach saudaa keetaa |
The True Lord abides in the mind of the Gurmukh; He strikes the true bargain.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਲੀਤਾ ॥
sabh kichh ghar hee maeh hai vaddabhaagee leetaa |
Everything is in the home of the self within; only the very fortunate obtain it.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਤਾ ॥
antar trisanaa mar gee har gun gaaveetaa |
The hunger within is conquered and overcome, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
aape mel milaaeian aape dee bujhaaee |18|
He Himself unites in His Union; He Himself blesses them with understanding. ||18||

Salok, First Mehl:
ਵੇਲਿ ਪਿੰਞਾਇਆ ਕਤਿ ਵੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
vel pinyaaeaa kat vunaaeaa |
The cotton is ginned, woven and spun;
ਕਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਖੁੰਬਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥
katt kutt kar khunb charraaeaa |
the cloth is laid out, washed and bleached white.
ਲੋਹਾ ਵਢੇ ਦਰਜੀ ਪਾੜੇ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਸੀਵੈ ॥
lohaa vadte darajee paarre sooee dhaagaa seevai |
The tailor cuts it with his scissors, and sews it with his thread.
ਇਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਟੀ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸੀਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵਤ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
eiau pat paattee sifatee seepai naanak jeevat jeevai |
Thus, the torn and tattered honor is sewn up again, through the Lord's Praise, O Nanak, and one lives the true life.
ਹੋਇ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਪਾਟੈ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਗੰਢੈ ॥
hoe puraanaa kaparr paattai sooee dhaagaa gandtai |
Becoming worn, the cloth is torn; with needle and thread it is sewn up again.
ਮਾਹੁ ਪਖੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੰਢੈ ॥
maahu pakh kihu chalai naahee gharree muhat kichh handtai |
It will not last for a month, or even a week. It barely lasts for an hour, or even a moment.
ਸਚੁ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੀਤਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਟੈ ॥
sach puraanaa hovai naahee seetaa kade na paattai |
But the Truth does not grow old; and when it is stitched, it is never torn again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਜਾਪੀ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥
naanak saahib sacho sachaa tichar jaapee jaapai |1|
O Nanak, the Lord and Master is the Truest of the True. While we meditate on Him, we see Him. ||1||
