ਜਾ ਕੋ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਦਈ ਮੈ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਦੀਨ ॥
jaa ko paramesur dee mai taahoo ko deen |
‘To whom God has given, I let her have too.’
ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲਹਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਛਲ ਗਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥੮॥
bhed na kaahoo triy lahiyo nrip chhal gayo prabeen |8|
The wife could not discern the deceptian which Raja had played.(8)(1)

A Rajput used to’ live in Mahobe city.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਕਹੈ ॥
mitr singh jaa ko jag kahai |
In the world he was known as Mittar Singh.
ਦਛਿਨ ਪੈਂਡ ਚਲਨ ਨਹਿ ਦੇਈ ॥
dachhin paindd chalan neh deee |
ਕੂਟਿ ਲੂਟਿ ਲੋਗਨ ਕਹ ਲੇਈ ॥੧॥
koott loott logan keh leee |1|
He would not let people go by, and used to rob them after beating.(l)
ਜੋ ਲਿੰਡਿਯਾਇ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ਧਨ ਲ︀ਯਾਵੈ ॥
jo linddiyaae tih kau dhan layaavai |
ਜੋ ਐਠੈ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਵੈ ॥
jo aitthai tih maar giraavai |
He looted the cowards, and, those, who’ stood fast, he killed them.
ਲੂਟਿ ਕੂਟਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੌ ਲੇਈ ॥
loott koott sabh hee kau leee |
ਅਧਿਕ ਦਰਬੁ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੌ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥

After looting all, he used to came and give riches to the woman.(2)
ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਧਾਰਾ ਕੋ ਗਯੋ ॥
ek divas dhaaraa ko gayo |
ਸੂਰਮਾਨ ਸੰਗ ਭੇਟਾ ਭਯੋ ॥
sooramaan sang bhettaa bhayo |
Once, when he went to’ rob, he came across a warrior.
ਹੈ ਦੌਰਾਇ ਚਲਤ ਗਿਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥
hai dauaraae chalat gir pariyo |
ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਆਨ ਸੂਰਮਨ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥੩॥
tab tin aan sooraman dhariyo |3|
While chasing his horse to run fast, he fell aver and the warriors caught him.(3)

ਬਾਧਿ ਕਾਲਪੀ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਨਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਇ ॥

He tied him up and brought him to’ Kaalpi Nagar to kill.
ਤਨਕ ਭਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚੀ ਆਇ ॥੪॥
tanak bhanak sun tih triyaa tahaa pahoonchee aae |4|
Getting the news, his wife arrived there, too.(4)

ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਗੋਬਰ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਧਰੈ ॥
chun chun gobar hai par dharai |
ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਸੰਕਾ ਨਹਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
kaahoo kee sankaa neh karai |
She had been collecting the cakes of horses’ dung so that no body could suspect.
ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਬਧ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਯੌ ਧਾਈ ॥
pat kau badh na hoe yau dhaaee |
ਇਹ ਮਿਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਪਹੂਚੀ ਆਈ ॥੫॥
eih mis nikatt pahoochee aaee |5|
She came running fast to reach there to save her husband from hanging.(5)

ਝਟਕਿ ਬਾਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿਹ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਲਯੋ ਚਰਾਇ ॥
jhattak baah te nij patih hai par layo charaae |
She jerked his (warrior’s) hand and took her husband an her horse.
ਤਾਹੀ ਕੌ ਅਸਿ ਛੀਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਚੰਡਾਰਹਿ ਘਾਇ ॥੬॥
taahee kau as chheen kai taeh chanddaareh ghaae |6|
And taking his awn sward she killed him (the warrior).(6)

ਜਵਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ਪਹੂੰਚ︀ਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
javan svaar pahoonchayo tih maariyo |
ਏਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੀ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
ekai baan maar hee ddaariyo |
Any horse-rider who came forward, she killed him with the arrow.
ਕਾਹੂ ਤੇ ਚਿਤ ਡਰਤ ਨ ਭਈ ॥
kaahoo te chit ddarat na bhee |
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਲੈ ਪੁਰਵਾ ਕਹ ਗਈ ॥੭॥
nij pat lai puravaa keh gee |7|
She did not care far any body, took her husband and brought him home.(7)(1)

ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਏਕ ਵਜੀਰ ਕੀ ਰੂਪ ਸਹਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
duhitaa ek vajeer kee roop sehar ke maeh |
In the city of Roop, a minister had a daughter.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸਮ ਤਿਹੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਮੈ ਰੂਪਵਤੀ ਕਊ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
taa ke sam tihoon lok mai roopavatee kaoo naeh |1|
There was none as pretty as she in all the three worlds.(1)
ਅਗਨਤ ਧਨੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਰ ਦਯੋ ਅਮਿਤ ਰੂਪ ਕੌ ਪਾਇ ॥
aganat dhan bidh ghar dayo amit roop kau paae |
Along with the beauty, God has endowed her with lot of wealth.
ਲੋਕ ਚੌਦਹੂੰ ਮੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੋਸਨ ਰੋਸਨ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
lok chauadahoon mai sadaa rosan rosan raae |2|
His influence had spread aver all the fourteen continents.(2)
ਸਾਮ ਦੇਸ ਕੇ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਏਕ ਸਪੂਤ ॥
saam des ke saah ko sundar ek sapoot |
The Shah of the country of Siam had a san,
ਸੂਰਤਿ ਸੀਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਜਨੁਕ ਆਪੁ ਬਨ︀ਯੋ ਪੁਰਹੂਤ ॥੩॥
soorat seerat mai januk aap banayo purahoot |3|
Who was epitome of god Indra in his splendour.(3)
ਸੁਮਤਿ ਸੈਨ ਸੂਰਾ ਬਡੋ ਖੇਲਣ ਚਰਿਯੋ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
sumat sain sooraa baddo khelan chariyo sikaar |
His name was Sumat Sen and he rushed an a hunting spree,
ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਿਚਾਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਆਯੋ ਬਨੈ ਮੰਝਾਰ ॥੪॥
svaan sichaane sang lai aayo banai manjhaar |4|
Along with his hawks and dogs.(4)
ਸੁਮਤਿ ਸੈਨ ਸਭ ਸਭਾ ਮੈ ਐਸੇ ਉਚਰੇ ਬੈਨ ॥
sumat sain sabh sabhaa mai aise uchare bain |
Sumat Sen had declared in the assembly,
ਜਿਹ ਆਗੇ ਆਵੈ ਹਨੈ ਔ ਕੋਊ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਿ ਹਨੈ ਨ ॥੫॥
jih aage aavai hanai aau koaoo mrigeh hanai na |5|
‘Whosoever confront the deer, must hunt.(5)
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਨੇਰਿ ॥
kott bighan nahee aaveh ner |
Millions of troubles do not come near him;
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਚੇਰਿ ॥
anik maaeaa hai taa kee cher |
the many manifestations of Maya are his hand-maidens;
ਅਨਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥
anik paap taa ke paaneehaar |
countless sins are his water-carriers;
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਇਆ ਭਈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaa kau meaa bhee karataar |1|
he is blessed with the Grace of the Creator Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
jiseh sahaaee hoe bhagavaan |
One who has the Lord God as his help and support
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਰੰਜਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik jatan uaa kai saranjaam |1| rahaau |
- all his efforts are fulfilled. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਉਨੁ ॥
karataa raakhai keetaa kaun |
He is protected by the Creator Lord; what harm can anyone do to him?
ਕੀਰੀ ਜੀਤੋ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਵਨੁ ॥
keeree jeeto sagalaa bhavan |
Even an ant can conquer the whole world.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਰਨ ॥
beant mahimaa taa kee ketak baran |
His glory is endless; how can I describe it?
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥੨॥
bal bal jaaeeai taa ke charan |2|
I am a sacrifice, a devoted sacrifice, to His feet. ||2||
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
tin hee keea jap tap dhiaan |
He alone performs worship, austerities and meditation;
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
anik prakaar keea tin daan |
he alone is a giver to various charities;
ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
bhagat soee kal meh paravaan |
he alone is approved in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jaa kau tthaakur deea maan |3|
whom the Lord Master blesses with honor. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
saadhasang mil bhe pragaas |
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am enlightened.
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
sehaj sookh aas nivaas |
I have found celestial peace, and my hopes are fulfilled.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਿਸਾਸ ॥
poorai satigur deea bisaas |
The Perfect True Guru has blessed me with faith.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੮॥
naanak hoe daasan daas |4|7|18|
Nanak is the slave of His slaves. ||4||7||18||

ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਲੋਗ ॥
dos na deejai kaahoo log |
Don't blame others, O people;
ਜੋ ਕਮਾਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਭੋਗ ॥
jo kamaavan soee bhog |
as you plant, so shall you harvest.
ਆਪਨ ਕਰਮ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਧ ॥
aapan karam aape hee bandh |
By your actions, you have bound yourself.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧ ॥੧॥
aavan jaavan maaeaa dhandh |1|
You come and go, entangled in Maya. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ॥
aisee jaanee sant janee |
Such is the understanding of the Saintly people.
ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paragaas bheaa poore gur bachanee |1| rahaau |
You shall be enlightened, through the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
tan dhan kalat mithiaa bisathaar |
Body, wealth, spouse and ostentatious displays are false.
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਚਾਲਨਹਾਰ ॥
haivar gaivar chaalanahaar |
Horses and elephants will pass away.
ਰਾਜ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਸਭਿ ਕੂਰ ॥
raaj rang roop sabh koor |
Power, pleasures and beauty are all false.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਸੀ ਧੂਰ ॥੨॥
naam binaa hoe jaasee dhoor |2|
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is reduced to dust. ||2||
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
bharam bhoole baad ahankaaree |
The egotistical people are deluded by useless doubt.
ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥
sang naahee re sagal pasaaree |
Of all this expanse, nothing shall go along with you.
ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਰਧਾਨੀ ॥
sog harakh meh deh biradhaanee |
Through pleasure and pain, the body is growing old.
ਸਾਕਤ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
saakat iv hee karat bihaanee |3|
Doing these things, the faithless cynics are passing their lives. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
har kaa naam amrit kal maeh |
The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
ehu nidhaanaa saadhoo paeh |
This treasure is obtained from the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂਠਾ ॥
naanak gur govid jis tootthaa |
O Nanak, whoever pleases the Guru,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੯॥
ghatt ghatt rameea tin hee ddeetthaa |4|8|19|
the Lord of the Universe, beholds the Lord in each and every heart. ||4||8||19||

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਤਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਦ ॥
panch sabad teh pooran naad |
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, echo the perfect sound current of the Naad.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
anahad baaje acharaj bisamaad |
The wondrous, amazing unstruck melody vibrates.
ਕੇਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ॥
kel kareh sant har log |
The Saintly people play there with the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥੧॥
paarabraham pooran nirajog |1|
They remain totally detached, absorbed in the Supreme Lord God. ||1||
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਭਵਨ ॥
sookh sehaj aanand bhavan |
It is the realm of celestial peace and bliss.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਤਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhasang bais gun gaaveh teh rog sog nahee janam maran |1| rahaau |
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sits and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. There is no disease or sorrow there, no birth or death. ||1||Pause||
ਊਹਾ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
aoohaa simareh keval naam |
There, they meditate only on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਓਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
birale paaveh ohu bisraam |
How rare are those who find this place of rest.
ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
bhojan bhaau keeratan aadhaar |
The love of God is their food, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is their support.
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਆਸਨੁ ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
nihachal aasan besumaar |2|
They obtain a permanent seat in the infinite. ||2||
ਡਿਗਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
ddig na ddolai katahoo na dhaavai |
No one falls there, or wavers, or goes anywhere.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gur prasaad ko ihu mehal paavai |
By Guru's Grace, some find this mansion.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ॥
bhram bhai moh na maaeaa jaal |
They are not touched by doubt, fear, attachment or the traps of Maya.
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੩॥
sun samaadh prabhoo kirapaal |3|
They enter the deepest state of Samaadhi, through the kind mercy of God. ||3||
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
taa kaa ant na paaraavaar |
He has no end or limitation.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
aape gupat aape paasaar |
He Himself is unmanifest, and He Himself is manifest.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਦੁ ॥
jaa kai antar har har suaad |
One who enjoys the taste of the Lord, Har, Har, deep within himself,
ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੦॥
kehan na jaaee naanak bisamaad |4|9|20|
O Nanak, his wondrous state cannot be described. ||4||9||20||
