ਜਬ ਵਹੁ ਤਾਕੀ ਛੋਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਨਿਰਖੈ ਨੈਨ ਪਸਾਰਿ ॥
jab vahu taakee chhor triy nirakhai nain pasaar |
‘When, through the open window, she sees you with eyes wide open,
ਤਬ ਤੁਮ ਅਪਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਲੀਜਹੁ ਚਰਿਤ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੨॥
tab tum apane chit bikhai leejahu charit bichaar |12|
‘You, then, determine in your mind to judge her conduct.’(12)
ਤਹਾ ਠਾਢ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਕਿਯਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਈ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਸ ॥
tahaa tthaadt taa kau kiyaa aap gee tih paas |
Leaving him there, she went to his wife and said,
ਮੋ ਪਤਿ ਆਯੋ ਦੇਖਿਯੈ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਛੋਰਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ॥੧੩॥
mo pat aayo dekhiyai chit ko chhor bisvaas |13|
‘My husband has come, you can see him to your entire satisfaction.’(13)

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਹੀ ਕਾਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਧਰੀ ॥

ਤਾਕੀ ਛੋਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਬ ਕਰੀ ॥
taakee chhor drisatt jab karee |
She attentively listened to her and looked out ofthe window.
ਯਹ ਕੌਤਕ ਸਭ ਸਾਹੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
yeh kauatak sabh saahu nihaariyo |
ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੪॥
duraachaar ih naar bichaariyo |14|
The Shah watched all the happening and thought his wife was of bad character.(14)
ਮੋ ਸੋ ਸਤਿ ਤਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
mo so sat tavan triy kahiyo |
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਮੋਨਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
yau keh saahu mon hvai rahiyo |
‘I considered my woman as trustworthy, but this woman enlightened me.’
ਨਿਜ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭਏ ਨੇਹ ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
nij triy bhe neh taj deeno |
ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਾਥ ਯਰਾਨੋ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੫॥
tih tria saath yaraano keeno |15|
He abandoned loving his wife and created friendship with the other woman.(15)

ਛਲਿਯੋ ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਜੁਤ ਐਸੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥
chhaliyo saahu triy triyaajut aise charit sudhaar |
She deceived Shah through such a vile Chritar,
ਤਾ ਸੋ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੁਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਕਿਯਾ ਆਪੁਨੋ ਯਾਰ ॥੧੬॥
taa so nehu turaae kai kiyaa aapuno yaar |16|
And making him to break with his wife, she won him over as her paramour.(16)(1)

In Northern Province, there lived a great Raja who belonged to the Sun Clan.

eindr prabhaa taa kee pattaraanee |
ਬਿਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਰ ਆਨੀ ॥੧॥

Indra Prabha was his senior Rani and his own name was Raja Vijay Singh.(2)

They had an extremely beautiful daughter
ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਠਟਕੇ ਰਹਤ ਰਤਿ ਸਮ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਿ ॥੨॥
kaam dev tthattake rehat rat sam taeh pachhaan |2|
who was adjudged as exquisite as the Cupid.(2)

ਜੋਬਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਬ ਭਯੋ ॥
joban adhik taeh jab bhayo |
ਲੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਗੰਗਾ ਪਿਤੁ ਗਯੋ ॥
lai taa ko gangaa pit gayo |
When she attained full maturity, her father though of taking her to (River) Ganga (for pilgrimage),
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਹ ਐਹੈ ॥
badde badde raajaa teh aihai |
ਤਿਨ ਮੈ ਭਲੋ ਹੇਰਿ ਤਹ ਦੈਹੈ ॥੩॥
tin mai bhalo her teh daihai |3|
Where all the big Rajas used- to come, and, perhaps, they would come across a suitable match for her.(3)
ਚਲੇ ਚਲੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਪਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
chale chale gangaa peh aae |
ਬੰਧੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਸੰਗ ਲ︀ਯਾਏ ॥
bandh sutaa isatrin sang layaae |
Walking and walking they reached Ganga, along with a number of ladies.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਾਨ੍ਰਹਵਿ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
sree jaanrahav ko darasan keeno |
ਪੂਰਬ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੪॥
poorab paap bidaa kar deeno |4|
They paid their respects to the Ganga to cast off their profanities of the life theretofore.( 4)
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤਹ ਆਏ ॥
badde badde bhoopat teh aae |
ਤਵਨਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਕਲ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥
tavan kuar ko sakal dikhaae |
There had come many a magnanimous Rajas who were presented to the princess.
ਇਨ ਪਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭਨ ਪਰ ਕਰਿਯੈ ॥
ein par drisatt sabhan par kariyai |
ਜੋ ਜਿਯ ਰੁਚੈ ਤਿਸੀ ਕੌ ਬਰਿਯੈ ॥੫॥
jo jiy ruchai tisee kau bariyai |5|
She was told to have a look on them; whomsoever she liked, she would be betrothed to.(5)

ਹੇਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਕਹੀ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
her nripat sut nripan ke kanayaa kahee bichaar |
She observed most of the princes, deliberated sincerely,
ਸੁਭਟ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਘਰ ਬਰਹੋ ਵਹੈ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥੬॥
subhatt singh sundar sughar baraho vahai kumaar |6|
And said that she would get married with Subhat Singh.(6)
ਅਧਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸਭ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਿਸਿ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
adhik roop taa ko nirakh sabh raajaa ris khaeh |
All the other princes were filled with jealousy,
ਜਿਯੋ ਕਿਯੋ ਯਾਹਿ ਬਿਵਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
jiyo kiyo yaeh bivaeh kai grihi apune lai jaeh |7|
As they had pondered to get married with her and take her away.(7)
ਗੋਂਡ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Gond, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
santan kai balihaarai jaau |
I am a sacrifice to the Saints.
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
santan kai sang raam gun gaau |
Associating with the Saints, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਗਏ ॥
sant prasaad kilavikh sabh ge |
By the Grace of the Saints, all the sins are taken away.
ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਏ ॥੧॥
sant saran vaddabhaagee pe |1|
By great good fortune, one finds the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||1||
ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
raam japat kachh bighan na viaapai |
Meditating on the Lord, no obstacles will block your way.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

By Guru's Grace, meditate on God. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਬ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
paarabraham jab hoe deaal |
When the Supreme Lord God becomes merciful,
ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਕਰੈ ਰਵਾਲ ॥
saadhoo jan kee karai ravaal |
he makes me the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
kaam krodh is tan te jaae |
Sexual desire and anger leave his body,
ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
raam ratan vasai man aae |2|
and the Lord, the jewel, comes to dwell in his mind. ||2||
ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਂ ਕਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
safal janam taan kaa paravaan |
Fruitful and approved is the life of one
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
paarabraham nikatt kar jaan |
who knows the Supreme Lord God to be close.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
bhaae bhagat prabh keeratan laagai |
One who is committed to loving devotional worship of God, and the Kirtan of His Praises,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੈ ॥੩॥
janam janam kaa soeaa jaagai |3|
awakens from the sleep of countless incarnations. ||3||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
charan kamal jan kaa aadhaar |
The Lord's Lotus Feet are the Support of His humble servant.
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਰਉਂ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
gun govind raun sach vaapaar |
To chant the Praises of the Lord of the Universe is the true trade.
ਦਾਸ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥
daas janaa kee manasaa poor |
Please fulfill the hopes of Your humble slave.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੨੨॥੬॥੨੮॥
naanak sukh paavai jan dhoor |4|20|22|6|28|
Nanak finds peace in the dust of the feet of the humble. ||4||20||22||6||28||

kar namasakaar poore guradev |
Humbly bow to the Perfect Divine Guru.
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਫਲ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
safal moorat safal jaa kee sev |
Fruitful is His image, and fruitful is service to Him.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
antarajaamee purakh bidhaataa |
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Architect of Destiny.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
aatth pehar naam rang raataa |1|
Twenty-four hours a day, he remains imbued with the love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
gur gobind guroo gopaal |
The Guru is the Lord of the Universe, the Guru is the Lord of the World.
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
apane daas kau raakhanahaar |1| rahaau |
He is the Saving Grace of His slaves. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਉਮਰਾਉ ਪਤੀਆਏ ॥
paatisaah saah umaraau pateeae |
He satisfies the kings, emperors and nobles.
ਦੁਸਟ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਏ ॥
dusatt ahankaaree maar pachaae |
He destroys the egotistical villains.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
nindak kai mukh keeno rog |
He puts illness into the mouths of the slanderers.
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
jai jai kaar karai sabh log |2|
All the people celebrate His victory. ||2||
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
santan kai man mahaa anand |
Supreme bliss fills the minds of the Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਜਪਹਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥
sant japeh guradeo bhagavant |
The Saints meditate on the Divine Guru, the Lord God.
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਭਏ ॥
sangat ke mukh aoojal bhe |
The faces of His companions become radiant and bright.
ਸਗਲ ਥਾਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੇ ਗਏ ॥੩॥
sagal thaan nindak ke ge |3|
The slanderers lose all places of rest. ||3||
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ॥
saas saas jan sadaa salaahe |
With each and every breath, the Lord's humble slaves praise Him.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
paarabraham gur beparavaahe |
The Supreme Lord God and the Guru are care-free.
ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਮਿਟੇ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ॥
sagal bhai mitte jaa kee saran |
All fears are eradicated, in His Sanctuary.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਭਿ ਧਰਨਿ ॥੪॥
nindak maar paae sabh dharan |4|
Smashing all the slanderers, the Lord knocks them to the ground. ||4||
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
jan kee nindaa karai na koe |
Let no one slander the Lord's humble servants.
ਜੋ ਕਰੈ ਸੋ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo karai so dukheea hoe |
Whoever does so, will be miserable.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
aatth pehar jan ek dhiaae |
Twenty-four hours a day, the Lord's humble servant meditates on Him alone.
ਜਮੂਆ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੫॥
jamooaa taa kai nikatt na jaae |5|
The Messenger of Death does not even approach him. ||5||
ਜਨ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
jan niravair nindak ahankaaree |
The Lord's humble servant has no vengeance. The slanderer is egotistical.
ਜਨ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥
jan bhal maaneh nindak vekaaree |
The Lord's humble servant wishes well, while the slanderer dwells on evil.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਿਖਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
gur kai sikh satiguroo dhiaaeaa |
The Sikh of the Guru meditates on the True Guru.
ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
jan ubare nindak narak paaeaa |6|
The Lord's humble servants are saved, while the slanderer is cast into hell. ||6||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
sun saajan mere meet piaare |
Listen, O my beloved friends and companions:
ਸਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
sat bachan varateh har duaare |
these words shall be true in the Court of the Lord.
ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
jaisaa kare su taisaa paae |
As you plant, so shall you harvest.
ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਕੀ ਜੜ ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਏ ॥੭॥
abhimaanee kee jarr sarapar jaae |7|
The proud, egotistical person will surely be uprooted. ||7||
ਨੀਧਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧਰ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
needhariaa satigur dhar teree |
O True Guru, You are the Support of the unsupported.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
kar kirapaa raakhahu jan keree |
Be merciful, and save Your humble servant.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
kahu naanak tis gur balihaaree |
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru;
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੯॥
jaa kai simaran paij savaaree |8|1|29|
remembering Him in meditation, my honor has been saved. ||8||1||29||
