The fool used to get flattered on hearing this and started to designate himself as a saint.
ਵਹ ਜਾਰਨ ਸੌ ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਰਹਈ ॥

The fool used to get flattered on hearing this and started to designate himself as a saint.
ਇਹ ਕਛੁ ਤਿਨੈ ਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹਈ ॥੫॥
eih kachh tinai na mukh te kahee |5|
She was always relishing with her lovers and he never opened his mouth to reprimand her.(5)(1)

ਰਾਨੀ ਏਕ ਓਡਛੇ ਰਹੈ ॥

ਪੁਹਪ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਜਿਹ ਜਗ ਕਹੈ ॥
puhap manjaree jih jag kahai |
A Rani used to live in Odchhe; she was known in the world as Pohap Manjri.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਲਿ ਅਵਰ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
taa ke tul avar koaoo naahee |
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਿ ਰਿਸਤ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
yaa te naar risat man maahee |1|
There was none other like her, and all the ladies were envious of her.(1)
ਅਧਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਬਿਧਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
adhik roop taa kau bidh dayo |
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਸਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
jaa te bas raajaa hvai gayo |
God had bestowed her with beauty; even the Raja had fallen for her.
ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹੈ ਬਚਨ ਸੋਈ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo triy kahai bachan soee maanai |
ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂਛੇ ਕਛੁ ਕਾਜ ਨ ਠਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
bin poochhe kachh kaaj na tthaanai |2|
Be did whatever she ordered for and without asking her he would never act.(2)
ਰਾਨੀ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਸ ਕੋ ਕਯੋ ॥
raanee raaj des ko kayo |
ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਭਯੋ ॥
raajaa raanee kee sam bhayo |
Rani ruled the country and Raja became like a Rani.
ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹੈ ਵਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo triy kahai vahai jag maanai |
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀ ਚਿਤ ਕੋਊ ਕਾਨਿ ਨ ਆਨੈ ॥੩॥
nrip kee chit koaoo kaan na aanai |3|
The people would act the way the woman commanded, and no one lent ear to the Raja.(3)

Rani governed whereas no body listened to her husband.
ਰਾਜਾ ਕੌ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਿਯਾ ਦੇਖਤ ਸਕਲ ਜਹਾਨ ॥੪॥
raajaa kau raanee kiyaa dekhat sakal jahaan |4|
Whole world transformed Raja into a Rani.(4)

Rani took total control of the Raja as she had won him through charms and incantations.
ਜਬ ਚਾਹਤ ਤਬ ਦੇਤ ਉਠਾਈ ॥
jab chaahat tab det utthaaee |
Rani took total control of the Raja as she had won him through charms and incantations.
ਪੁਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਤ ਤਬ ਲੇਤ ਬਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
pun suhaat tab let balaaee |5|
Whenever she wanted she made him to get up and whenever she wanted she called him over.(5)

ਹੇਰਿ ਏਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਰਾਨੀ ਤਜੀ ਸਿਯਾਨ ॥

Coming across a very handsome man, she cast away all her wisdom.
ਪੁਰਖ ਭੇਸ ਧਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸਦਨ ਨਿਸਿ ਕਹ ਕਿਯਾ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੬॥
purakh bhes dhar tih sadan nis keh kiyaa payaan |6|
And disguising herself as a man went to his house.(6)

In the meantime Raja came and was very perturbed not to see her
ਧਾਮ ਨ ਪੈਠਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
dhaam na paitthan nrip keh deenaa |
ਤਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਚਨ ਅਸਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥੭॥
tab triy taeh bachan as keenaa |7|
The maid let him not sit down and told him,(7)

ਕਛੂ ਭੂਲ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਿਯ ਮਾਨ ॥

‘You have misconstrued some thing, on account of which she has told us,
ਮੁਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕਰਨ ਨ ਦੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹ ਕਹਾ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੮॥
mur grih karan na deejiyahu nrip keh kahaa payaan |8|
“Do not let Raja into my house as he has humiliated me.”(8)

The Rani then enjoyed the sex and came back to her house.
ਯਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਹ ਤਿਨੈ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
yeh charitr keh tinai sunaayo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਝਾਯੋ ॥੯॥
taa te triy keh adhik rijhaayo |9|
The maids told their deception and pleased the woman.(9)
ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਧਨ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
tab tin triyo adhik dhan deeno |
ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਨਿਹੋਰੌ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
bhaat anek nihorau keeno |
Rani rewarded them sufficiently and they praised her in various ways,
ਭਲੀ ਸਖੀ ਹਮਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
bhalee sakhee hamaree mukh bhaakhee |
ਹਮਰੀ ਆਜੁ ਲਾਜ ਇਨ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੧੦॥
hamaree aaj laaj in raakhee |10|
‘You, my maids, are very sympathetic and you have saved my honour.’(10)

ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ॥

The Lord's Feet are the boat to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣ ॥
simarat naam naahee fir maran |
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he does not die again.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ॥
har gun ramat naahee jam panth |
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, he does not have to walk on the Path of Death.
ਮਹਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤਹ ਮੰਥ ॥੧॥
mahaa beechaar panch dootah manth |1|
Contemplating the Supreme Lord, the five demons are conquered. ||1||
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਥ ॥
tau saranaaee pooran naath |
I have entered Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Lord and Master.
ਜੰਤ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਹਾਥ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jant apane kau deejeh haath |1| rahaau |
Please give Your hand to Your creatures. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥

The Simritees, Shaastras, Vedas and Puraanas
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥
paarabraham kaa kareh vakhiaan |
expound upon the Supreme Lord God.
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ॥
jogee jatee baisano raamadaas |
The Yogis, celibates, Vaishnavs and followers of Ram Das
ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ ॥੨॥
mit naahee braham abinaas |2|
cannot find the limits of the Eternal Lord God. ||2||
ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਿਵ ਦੇਵ ॥
karan palaah kareh siv dev |
Shiva and the gods lament and moan,
ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ॥
til nahee boojheh alakh abhev |
but they do not understand even a tiny bit of the unseen and unknown Lord.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
prem bhagat jis aape dee |
One whom the Lord Himself blesses with loving devotional worship,
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥੩॥
jag meh virale keee kee |3|
is very rare in this world. ||3||
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਿਛਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
mohi niragun gun kichhahoo naeh |
I am worthless, with absolutely no virtue at all;
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab nidhaan teree drisattee maeh |
all treasures are in Your Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
naanak deen jaachai teree sev |
Nanak, the meek, desires only to serve You.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੭॥
kar kirapaa deejai guradev |4|15|17|
Please be merciful, and grant him this blessing, O Divine Guru. ||4||15||17||

ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਲੀਆ ਧਰਤਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਉ ॥
sant kaa leea dharat bidaarau |
One who is cursed by the Saints, is thrown down on the ground.
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਅਕਾਸ ਤੇ ਟਾਰਉ ॥
sant kaa nindak akaas te ttaarau |
The slanderer of the Saints is thrown down from the skies.
ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਉ ਅਪਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
sant kau raakhau apane jeea naal |
I hold the Saints close to my soul.
ਸੰਤ ਉਧਾਰਉ ਤਤਖਿਣ ਤਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
sant udhaarau tatakhin taal |1|
The Saints are saved instantaneously. ||1||
ਸੋਈ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
soee sant ji bhaavai raam |
He alone is a Saint, who is pleasing to the Lord.
ਸੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant gobind kai ekai kaam |1| rahaau |
The Saints, and God, have only one job to do. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਊਪਰਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਾਥ ॥
sant kai aoopar dee prabh haath |
God gives His hand to shelter the Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
sant kai sang basai din raat |
He dwells with His Saints, day and night.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸੰਤਹ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
saas saas santah pratipaal |
With each and every breath, He cherishes His Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਦੋਖੀ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਟਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
sant kaa dokhee raaj te ttaal |2|
He takes the power away from the enemies of the Saints. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sant kee nindaa karahu na koe |
Let no one slander the Saints.
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਪਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo nindai tis kaa patan hoe |
Whoever slanders them, will be destroyed.
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
jis kau raakhai sirajanahaar |
One who is protected by the Creator Lord,
ਝਖ ਮਾਰਉ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
jhakh maarau sagal sansaar |3|
cannot be harmed, no matter how much the whole world may try. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ॥
prabh apane kaa bheaa bisaas |
I place my faith in my God.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
jeeo pindd sabh tis kee raas |
My soul and body all belong to Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਉਪਜੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
naanak kau upajee parateet |
This is the faith which inspires Nanak:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਜੀਤਿ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੮॥
manamukh haar guramukh sad jeet |4|16|18|
the self-willed manmukhs will fail, while the Gurmukhs will always win. ||4||16||18||

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥

The Name of the Immaculate Lord is the Ambrosial Water.
ਰਸਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਲਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasanaa simarat paap bilaaein |1| rahaau |
Chanting it with the tongue, sins are washed away. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
naaraaein sabh maeh nivaas |
The Lord abides in everyone.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥
naaraaein ghatt ghatt paragaas |
The Lord illumines each and every heart.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
naaraaein kahate narak na jaeh |
Chanting the Lord's Name, one does not fall into hell.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਗਲ ਫਲ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naaraaein sev sagal fal paeh |1|
Serving the Lord, all fruitful rewards are obtained. ||1||
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
naaraaein man maeh adhaar |
Within my mind is the Support of the Lord.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
naaraaein bohith sansaar |
The Lord is the boat to cross over the world-ocean.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਤ ਜਮੁ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥
naaraaein kehat jam bhaag palaaein |
Chant the Lord's Name, and the Messenger of Death will run away.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦੰਤ ਭਾਨੇ ਡਾਇਣ ॥੨॥
naaraaein dant bhaane ddaaein |2|
The Lord breaks the teeth of Maya, the witch. ||2||
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥
naaraaein sad sad bakhasind |
The Lord is forever and ever the Forgiver.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੂਖ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
naaraaein keene sookh anand |
The Lord blesses us with peace and bliss.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਨੋ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
naaraaein pragatt keeno parataap |
The Lord has revealed His glory.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸੰਤ ਕੋ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੩॥
naaraaein sant ko maaee baap |3|
The Lord is the mother and father of His Saint. ||3||
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥
naaraaein saadhasang naraaein |
The Lord, the Lord, is in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਗਾਇਣ ॥
baaran baar naraaein gaaein |
Time and time again, I sing the Lord's Praises.
ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਲਹੀ ॥
basat agochar gur mil lahee |
Meeting with the Guru, I have attained the incomprehensible object.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਗਹੀ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੧੯॥

Slave Nanak has grasped the Support of the Lord. ||4||17||19||
