ਛਿਮਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਅਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਹਮੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ਰਾਧਿ ॥
chhimaa karahu ab triy hamai bahur na kariyahu raadh |
‘Now, woman, you exonerate me as well, because I don’t want to linger on the dispute.’
ਬੀਸ ਸਹੰਸ ਟਕਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਦਈ ਛਿਮਾਹੀ ਬਾਧਿ ॥੧੨॥
bees sahans ttakaa tisai dee chhimaahee baadh |12|
She was, then, endowed a pension of twenty thousand takaas every six months. (12) (1)

ਦੀਨੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਠਾਇ ਬੰਦਸਾਲ ਪਿਤ ਪੂਤ ਕਉ ॥
deeno bahur patthaae bandasaal pit poot kau |
The father again sent his son to the prison,
ਲੀਨੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਭੋਰ ਹੋਤ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ॥੧॥
leeno bahur bulaae bhor hot apune nikatt |1|
And, as soon as it was morning, he called him back.(1)

ਪੁਨਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਕ ਕਥਾ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥

The Minister started narration and said, ‘My Raja, listen to another anecdote.
ਏਕ ਚਰਿਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
ek charit triy tumeh sunaaoo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਕੌ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਝਾਊ ॥੨॥
taa te tum kau adhik rijhaaoo |2|
I will tell you another Chritar, which will amuse you -2
ਉਤਰ ਦੇਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਇਕ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
autar des nripat ik bhaaro |
ਸੂਰਜ ਬੰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੋ ॥
sooraj bans maeh ujiyaaro |
In a country up in the North, there lived a Raja who belonged to the revered Sun Clan.
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਟਰਾਨੀ ॥
chandramatee taa kee pattaraanee |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਛੀਰ ਸਿੰਧ ਮਥਿਆਨੀ ॥੩॥

Chandra Mati was his principal Rani who was, as if, churned out of milk pudding (3)
ਏਕ ਸੁਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਭਵ ਲਯੋ ॥
ek sutaa taa ke bhav layo |
ਜਾਨਕ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੋਦ ਰਵਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
jaanak ddaar god rav dayo |
They were blessed with a daughter, who was endowed in their lap by the God Sun, himself.
ਜੋਬਨ ਜੇਬ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਢੀ ॥
joban jeb adhik tih baadtee |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਾਰ ਮਥਿ ਕਾਢੀ ॥੪॥
maanahu chandr saar math kaadtee |4|
Her beauty had no bounds she was like the serenity of the Moon.(4)
ਧਰਿਯੋ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
dhariyo sumer kuar tih naamaa |
ਜਾ ਸਮ ਔਰ ਨ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਬਾਮਾ ॥
jaa sam aauar na jag mai baamaa |
She was given the name of Sumer Kaur there was none other like her in the world.
ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਤਿਹੂੰ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਈ ॥
sundar tihoon bhavan meh bhee |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਕਲਾ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਵਈ ॥੫॥
jaanuk kalaa chandr kee vee |5|
Her beauty prevailed all over the three worlds, as she possessed the Moon like virtues (5)
ਜੋਬਨ ਜੇਬ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਹ ਧਰੀ ॥
joban jeb adhik tih dharee |
ਮੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਰ ਭਰਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਭਰੀ ॥
main sunaar bharan jan bharee |
She was so beautiful that, even, the Cupid ran errands for her.
ਵਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਜਾਤ ਨਹਿ ਕਹੀ ॥
vaa kee prabhaa jaat neh kahee |
ਜਾਨਕ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲਤੀ ਰਹੀ ॥੬॥
jaanak fool maalatee rahee |6|
Her charm could not be explained as she appeared to be like a bouquet of flowers.( 6)

ਜਗੈ ਜੁਬਨ ਕੀ ਜੇਬ ਕੇ ਝਲਕਤ ਗੋਰੇ ਅੰਗ ॥
jagai juban kee jeb ke jhalakat gore ang |
With the awakening of youth, her appendage reflected through her fair complexion,
ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਛੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਦਮਕਤ ਛੀਰ ਤਰੰਗ ॥੭॥
jan kar chheer samundr mai damakat chheer tarang |7|
Like the snowy waves, which jumped up and down in the sea-water.(7)

ਦਛਿਨ ਦੇਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਵਹ ਬਰੀ ॥
dachhin des nripat veh baree |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਨ ਕਰੀ ॥
bhaat bhaat ke bhogan karee |
She was married to a southern Raja and she started to enjoy variable carnal pleasures.
ਦੋਇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਇਕ ਭਈ ॥
doe putr kanayaa ik bhee |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਰਾਸਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਕੀ ਵਈ ॥੮॥
jaanuk raas roop kee vee |8|
She gave birth to two sons and a daughter, who were the epitome of splendour as well.(8)
ਕਿਤਕਿ ਦਿਨਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਵਹੁ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥
kitak dinan raajaa vahu mariyo |
ਤਿਹ ਸਿਰ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਪੂਤ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥
tih sir chhatru poot bidh dhariyo |
Soon after that Raja died, the crown of sovereignty was put on the son’s head,
ਕੋ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
ko aagayaa taa kee te ttarai |
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੈ ॥੯॥
jo bhaave chit mai so karai |9|
And then whose orders no body could refute and he could do whatever the way he liked.(9)
ਐਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਹਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥
ais bhaat bahu kaal bihaanrayo |
ਚੜਿਯੋ ਬਸੰਤ ਸਭਨ ਜਿਯ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥
charriyo basant sabhan jiy jaanayo |
Long time passed, and the spring season prevailed.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਪਿਯ ਬਿਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਪਰੈ ॥
taa te piy bin rahiyo na parai |
She (the widowed Rani) could not bear without her lover
ਬਿਰਹ ਬਾਨ ਭਏ ਹਿਯਰਾ ਜਰੈ ॥੧੦॥
birah baan bhe hiyaraa jarai |10|
As her heart was riddled with the arrows of separation.(10)

ਬਿਰਹ ਬਾਨ ਗਾੜੇ ਲਗੇ ਕੈਸਕ ਬੰਧੈ ਧੀਰ ॥

How could she tolerate and contain herself when the arrows of estrangement pinched her?
ਮੁਖ ਫੀਕੀ ਬਾਤੈ ਕਰੈ ਪੇਟ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ॥੧੧॥
mukh feekee baatai karai pett piyaa kee peer |11|
She talked customarily, but in the heart she was pricked with the for her consort.(11)
ਸਰ ਅਨੰਗ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਗਡੇ ਕਢੇ ਦਸਊਅਲਿ ਫੂਟਿ ॥
sar anang ke tan gadde kadte dsaooal foott |
The Cupid’s arrows were hitting her and passing straight through,
ਲੋਕ ਲਾਜ ਕੁਲ ਕਾਨਿ ਸਭ ਗਈ ਤਰਕ ਦੈ ਤੂਟਿ ॥੧੨॥
lok laaj kul kaan sabh gee tarak dai toott |12|
She felt the veil of human modesty tearing off.(12)
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਲਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
ek purakh sundar huto taa kau layo bulaae |
She called for a handsome male,
ਮੈਨ ਭੋਗ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਕਿਯੋ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਖ ਉਪਜਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
main bhog taa sau kiyo hridai harakh upajaae |13|
And had sex with him to her full satisfaction.(13)
