ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਇ ਸੌ ਕਥਾ ਉਚਾਰੀ ਆਨਿ ॥

Then the Minister narrated another anecdote,
ਸੁਨਤ ਸੀਸ ਰਾਜੈ ਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਮੌਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਠਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
sunat sees raajai dhunrayo rahiyo mauan mukh tthaan |1|
Hearing which the Raja waved his head in unison but kept quiet 1
ਪਦੂਆ ਉਹਿ ਟਿਬਿਯਾ ਬਸੈ ਗੈਨੀ ਹਮਰੇ ਗਾਉ ॥
padooaa uhi ttibiyaa basai gainee hamare gaau |
There lived an aide on the hills, and his spouse lived in our village.
ਦਾਸ ਖਸਮ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰਹਤ ਰਾਮ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
daas khasam taa ko rehat raam daas tih naau |2|
Her husband was known as Ramdas.(2)
ਰਾਮ ਦਾਸ ਅਨਤੈ ਰਹਤ ਪਦੂਆ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਸੋਇ ॥
raam daas anatai rehat padooaa ke sang soe |
When Ramdas slept else where, she would sleep with an aide, who
ਨ੍ਰਹਾਨ ਹੇਤ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਤ ਤਹ ਜਬੈ ਦੁਪਹਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
nrahaan het utth jaat teh jabai dupaharee hoe |3|
Used to get up at mid-day to go for his ablution.(3)
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਦੂਆ ਕੇ ਸਦਨ ਬਹੁ ਜਨ ਬੈਠੇ ਆਇ ॥
eik din padooaa ke sadan bahu jan baitthe aae |
Once there appeared a few strangers at the household of that aide but
ਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ਗੈਨਿ ਯਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
bhed na paayo gain yeh tahaa pahunchee jaae |4|
His mistress had no knowledge of them when she had arrived there.(4)

ਤਬੈ ਤੁਰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥

She inquired whether Ramdas had not come there,
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਓਊ ॥
mere pat paramesvar oaoo |
ਕਹ ਗਯੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਕੋਊ ॥੫॥
keh gayo taeh bataavahu koaoo |5|
He is my God-like husband. Where has he gone? Please tell me.’ (5)

ਗਰਾ ਓਰ ਕਹ ਯੌ ਗਈ ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ਉਠਿ ਲੋਗ ॥

Declaring so she went out towards the main street. All the strangers immediately got up and left the place.
ਤੁਰਤੁ ਆਨਿ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰਮੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਭਈ ਨਿਸੋਗ ॥੬॥
turat aan taa sau ramee man mai bhee nisog |6|
Subsequently she abandoned all her fears and soon came back to induce her lover.(6)
ਪਦੂਆ ਸੌ ਰਤਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚੀ ਆਇ ॥
padooaa sau rat maan kai tahaa pahoonchee aae |
ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਜਹ ਆਪਨ ਸਦਨ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੭॥
raakhiyo huto savaar jeh aapan sadan suhaae |7|
And after making love with that aide, she retreated to her beautiful abode.(7)
ਕੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਬੁਧਿਜਨ ਕੋਊ ਚਤੁਰ ਕੈਸਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
kaiso hee budhijan koaoo chatur kaisau hoe |
ਚਰਿਤ ਚਤੁਰਿਯਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਕੋ ਪਾਇ ਸਕਤ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥
charit chaturiyaa triyan ko paae sakat neh koe |8|
Bow-so-ever one might be wise, one would not be able to fathom the female-Chritars.(8)
ਜੋ ਨਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੌ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਰ ਦੇਤ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
jo nar apune chit kau triy kar det banaae |
The one who divulged ones secrets to a female, the old age would
ਜਰਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਜੋਬਨ ਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹਰਤ ਜਮ ਜਾਇ ॥੯॥
jaraa taeh joban harai praan harat jam jaae |9|
Overpower his youth, and the angel of death surround to wrench his soul.(9)

ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਭੇਦ ਤਾਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਲੀਜੈ ਸਦਾ ॥

The gist of the Simritis, Vedas and Koka Shastras is that the secret might not be imparted to the females.
ਕਹਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਬੇਦ ਕੋਕਸਾਰਊ ਯੌ ਕਹਤ ॥੧੦॥
kehat sinmrit ar bed kokasaaraoo yau kehat |10|
Rather, instead, one should try to understand her enigmas.(10)(1)

Then the Minister narrated such a parable that the mind became serene,
ਅਧਿਕ ਮੋਦ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਬਢੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਗੁਨ ਬਢੈ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥
adhik mod man mai badtai sun gun badtai anek |1|
And the virtuosity was much enhanced -1
ਏਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਗਈ ਬਾਗ ਮੈ ਰਮੀ ਔਰ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
ek triyaa gee baag mai ramee aauar so jaae |
A woman named Puhap Mati went into to a garden and started loving some else.
ਤਹਾ ਯਾਰ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤੁਰਤ ਦੁਤਿਯ ਪਹੂੰਚ︀ਯੋ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
tahaa yaar taa ko turat dutiy pahoonchayo aae |2|
Her lover instantly walked in there too.(2)

ਜਾਰ ਆਵਤ ਜਬ ਤਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
jaar aavat jab tin triy lahiyo |
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਮੀਤ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
dutiy meet so ih bidh kahiyo |
When she observed her second lover intruding in,
ਮਾਲੀ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਨ ਤੁਮ ਕਰੋ ॥
maalee naam aapan tum karo |
She asked the first one, ‘Disguise yourself as a gardener,
ਫਲ ਫੂਲਨਿ ਆਗੇ ਲੈ ਧਰੋ ॥੩॥
fal foolan aage lai dharo |3|
Keeping a few flowers in front ofyou.(3)

ਜੋ ਹਮ ਇਹ ਜੁਤ ਬਾਗ ਮੈ ਬੈਠੇ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਾਇ ॥

‘When we sit down in the garden in affectionate posture, you
ਫੂਲ ਫਲਨ ਲੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਆਗੇ ਧਰੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੪॥
fool falan lai tum turat aage dharo banaae |4|
Immediately put flowers and fruits in front of us.’(4)
ਤਬੈ ਤਵਨ ਤਿਯੋ ਹੀ ਕਿਯੋ ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਿਹ ਸਿਖ ਦੀਨ ॥
tabai tavan tiyo hee kiyo jo triy tih sikh deen |
The lover acted the way she told him and collected the flowers and
ਫੂਲ ਫੁਲੇ ਅਰੁ ਫਲ ਘਨੇ ਤੋਰਿ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਕਰ ਲੀਨ ॥੫॥
fool fule ar fal ghane tor turat kar leen |5|
Fruit and held them in his hand.(5)
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਜਦ ਬਾਗ ਮੈ ਜਾਰ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
triyaa sahit jad baag mai jaar biraajiyo jaae |
As soon as they sat down he straightaway placed the flowers and
ਤੋ ਤਿਨ ਫੁਲ ਫਲ ਲੈ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਆਗੇ ਧਰੇ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੬॥
to tin ful fal lai turat aage dhare banaae |6|
Fruit in front of them.(6)
ਇਹ ਮਾਲੀ ਇਹ ਬਾਗ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪਾਸ ॥
eih maalee ih baag ko aayo tumare paas |
Then she said, ‘This gardener has come to you.
ਬਹੁ ਯਾ ਕੌ ਧਨ ਦੀਜਿਯੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਜਾਇ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥੭॥
bahu yaa kau dhan deejiyai jin ih jaae niraas |7|
You must give him lot of money to go away without getting angry.’(7)
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਨ ਦਿਯ ਤਿਹ ਹਾਥ ॥
sunat bachan triy ko tarun bahu dhan diy tih haath |
Hearing this the man gave him lot of money.
ਮਾਲੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਢ︀ਯੋ ਹਿਤੁ ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੮॥
maalee kar kaadtayo hit ih charitr ke saath |8|
Thus the woman, disguising the other man as gardener, let him escape by deception,(8)
ਪੁਹਪ ਮਤੀ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਭਏ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਦਿਯੋ ਟਰਾਇ ॥
puhap matee ih chhal bhe mitreh diyo ttaraae |
Through the attributive fragrance of the flowers,
ਮਾਲੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਢ︀ਯੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਰੂਪ ਨਗਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਇ ॥੯॥
maalee kar kaadtayo tisai roop nagar ke raae |9|
O my Raja! she made her lover to go away and escape scot-free.(9)(l)

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ॥
sadaa sadaa japeeai prabh naam |
Forever and ever, chant the Name of God.
ਜਰਾ ਮਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaraa maraa kachh dookh na biaapai aagai daragah pooran kaam |1| rahaau |
The pains of old age and death shall not afflict you, and in the Court of the Lord hereafter, your affairs shall be perfectly resolved. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਪਰੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਸਰਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
aap tiaag pareeai nit saranee gur te paaeeai ehu nidhaan |
So forsake your self-conceit, and ever seek Sanctuary. This treasure is obtained only from the Guru.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਾਸੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
janam maran kee katteeai faasee saachee daragah kaa neesaan |1|
The noose of birth and death is snapped; this is the insignia, the hallmark, of the Court of the True Lord. ||1||
ਜੋ ਤੁਮੑ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਸਗਲ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
jo tuma karahu soee bhal maanau man te chhoottai sagal gumaan |
Whatever You do, I accept as good. I have eradicated all egotistical pride from my mind.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੯੯॥
kahu naanak taa kee saranaaee jaa kaa keea sagal jahaan |2|13|99|
Says Nanak, I am under His protection; He created the entire Universe. ||2||13||99||

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਹੀ ॥

Deep within the nucleus of his mind and body, is God.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਨਿਤ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੋਲੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har gun gaavat praupakaar nit tis rasanaa kaa mol kichh naahee |1| rahaau |
He continually sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and always does good for others; his tongue is priceless. ||1||Pause||
ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਧਰੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਹੀ ॥
kul samooh udhare khin bheetar janam janam kee mal laahee |
All his generations are redeemed and saved in an instant, and the filth of countless incarnations is washed away.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਅਨਦ ਸੇਤੀ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਨੁ ਗਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
simar simar suaamee prabh apanaa anad setee bikhiaa ban gaahee |1|
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, his Lord and Master, he passes blissfully through the forest of poison. ||1||
ਚਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੇ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਹੀ ॥
charan prabhoo ke bohith paae bhav saagar paar paraahee |
I have obtained the boat of God's Feet, to carry me across the terrifying world-ocean.
ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਹੀ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੧੦੦॥
sant sevak bhagat har taa ke naanak man laagaa hai taahee |2|14|100|
The Saints, servants and devotees belong to the Lord; Nanak's mind is attached to Him. ||2||14||100||

ਧੀਰਉ ਦੇਖਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਰੰਗਾ ॥

I am reassured, gazing upon Your wondrous play.
ਤੁਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਤੂਹੀ ਵਸਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tuhee suaamee antarajaamee toohee vaseh saadh kai sangaa |1| rahaau |
You are my Lord and Master, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts; You dwell with the Holy Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੀਚ ਕੀਟ ਤੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਾਜੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
khin meh thaap nivaaje tthaakur neech keett te kareh raajangaa |1|
In an instant, our Lord and Master establishes and exalts. From a lowly worm, He creates a king. ||1||
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਹੀਏ ਮੋਰੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਇਹੀ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੰਗਾ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੧੦੧॥
kabahoo na bisarai hee more te naanak daas ihee daan mangaa |2|15|101|
May I never forget You from my heart; slave Nanak prays for this blessing. ||2||15||101||

The imperishable Lord God is worthy of worship and adoration.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਰਖਉ ਹਰਿ ਆਗੈ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan arap rkhau har aagai sarab jeea kaa hai pratipaal |1| rahaau |
Dedicating my mind and body, I place them before the Lord, the Cherisher of all beings. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਨਿ ਸਮ੍ਰਥ ਅਕਥ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਬਡੋ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
saran samrath akath sukhadaataa kirapaa sindh baddo deaal |
His Sanctuary is All-powerful; He cannot be described; He is the Giver of peace, the ocean of mercy, supremely compassionate.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਤਾਤੀ ਬਾਲ ॥੧॥
kantth laae raakhai apane kau tis no lagai na taatee baal |1|
Holding him close in His embrace, the Lord protects and saves him, and then even the hot wind cannot touch him. ||1||
ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ ॥
daamodar deaal suaamee sarabas sant janaa dhan maal |
Our Merciful Lord and Master is wealth, property and everything to His humble Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦਰਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੧੦੨॥
naanak jaachik daras prabh maagai sant janaa kee milai ravaal |2|16|102|
Nanak, a beggar, asks for the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan; please, bless him with the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||2||16||102||

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨ ਭਏ ॥

Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is equal to millions of efforts.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਜਮਦੂਤਨ ਕਉ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਅਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhasang mil har gun gaae jamadootan kau traas ahe |1| rahaau |
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and the Messenger of Death will be frightened away. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਤੇ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨ ਸੇ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ॥
jete punahacharan se keenae man tan prabh ke charan gahe |
To enshrine the Feet of God in one's mind and body, is to perform all sorts of acts of atonement.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਨਾਠਾ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦਹੇ ॥੧॥
aavan jaan bharam bhau naatthaa janam janam ke kilavikh dahe |1|
Coming and going, doubt and fear have run away, and the sins of countless incarnations are burnt away. ||1||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ਭਜਹੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ਏਹੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਲਹੇ ॥
nirbhau hoe bhajahu jagadeesai ehu padaarath vaddabhaag lahe |
So become fearless, and vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe. This is true wealth, obtained only by great good fortune.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਕਹੇ ॥੨॥੧੭॥੧੦੩॥
kar kirapaa pooran prabh daate niramal jas naanak daas kahe |2|17|103|
Be merciful, O Perfect God, Great Giver, that slave Nanak may chant Your immaculate Praises. ||2||17||103||
