ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਬੈ ਕੀਨੋ ਜੁੱਧ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
kop bhare raajaa sabai keeno judh upaae |
All the chiefs of the allies, in great anger, entered the fray.
ਸੈਨ ਕਟੋਚਨ ਕੀ ਤਬੈ ਘੇਰ ਲਈ ਅਰਰਾਇ ॥੧੫॥
sain kattochan kee tabai gher lee araraae |15|
And besieged the army of Katoch. 15.

ਚਲੇ ਨਾਂਗਲੂ ਪਾਂਗਲੂ ਵੇਦੜੋਲੰ ॥

ਜਸਵਾਰੇ ਗੁਲੇਰੇ ਚਲੇ ਬਾਂਧ ਟੋਲੰ ॥
jasavaare gulere chale baandh ttolan |
The Rajputs of the tribes of Nanglua and Panglu advanced in groups alongwith the soldiers of Jaswar and Guler.
ਤਹਾਂ ਏਕ ਬਾਜਿਓ ਮਹਾਂ ਬੀਰ ਦਿਆਲੰ ॥
tahaan ek baajio mahaan beer diaalan |
ਰਖੀ ਲਾਜ ਜੌਨੇ ਸਭੈ ਬਿਝੜਵਾਲੰ ॥੧੬॥
rakhee laaj jauane sabhai bijharravaalan |16|
The greater warrior Dayal also joined and saved the honour of the people of Bijharwal. 16.
ਤਵੰ ਕੀਟ ਤੌ ਲੌ ਤੁਫੰਗੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥
tavan keett tau lau tufangan sanbhaaro |
ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਏਕ ਰਾਵੰਤ ਕੇ ਤੱਕਿ ਮਾਰੋ ॥
hridai ek raavant ke tak maaro |
Then this lowly person (the Guru himself) took up his gun and aimed unerringly at one of the chiefs.
ਗਿਰਿਓ ਝੂਮ ਭੂਮੈ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਸੁੱਧੰ ॥
girio jhoom bhoomai kariyo judh sudhan |
ਤਊ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਮਹਾ ਮਾਨਿ ਕ੍ਰੁੱਧੰ ॥੧੭॥
taoo maar boliyo mahaa maan krudhan |17|
He reeled and fell down on the ground in the battlefield, but even then he thundered in anger.17.
ਤਜਿਯੋ ਤੁਪਕੰ ਬਾਨ ਪਾਨੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥
tajiyo tupakan baan paanan sanbhaare |
ਚਤੁਰ ਬਾਨਯੰ ਲੈ ਸੁ ਸੱਬਿਯੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
chatur baanayan lai su sabiyan prahaare |
I then threw away the gun and took the arrows in my hand, I shot four of them.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯੋ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਬਾਮ ਪਾਨੰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
triyo baan lai baam paanan chalaae |
ਲਗੇ ਯਾ ਲਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਛੂ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੧੮॥
lage yaa lage naa kachhoo jaan paae |18|
Another three I discharged with my left hand, whether they struck anybody, I do not know. 18.
ਸੋ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਦਈਵ ਜੁਧ ਕੀਨੋ ਉਝਾਰੰ ॥
so tau lau deev judh keeno ujhaaran |
ਤਿਨੈ ਖੇਦ ਕੈ ਬਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਡਾਰੰ ॥
tinai khed kai baar ke beech ddaaran |
Then the Lord brought the end of the fight and the enemy was driven out into the river.
ਪਰੀ ਮਾਰ ਬੁੰਗੰ ਛੁਟੀ ਬਾਣ ਗੋਲੀ ॥
paree maar bungan chhuttee baan golee |
ਮਨੋ ਸੂਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਭਲੀ ਖੇਲ ਹੋਲੀ ॥੧੯॥
mano soor baitthe bhalee khel holee |19|
Form the hill the bullets and arrows were showered. It seemed that the sun set down after playing a good holi.19.
ਗਿਰੇ ਬੀਰ ਭੂਮੰ ਸਰੰ ਸਾਂਗ ਪੇਲੰ ॥
gire beer bhooman saran saang pelan |
ਰੰਗੇ ਸ੍ਰੌਣ ਬਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਮਨੋ ਫਾਗ ਖੇਲੰ ॥
range srauan basatran mano faag khelan |
Pierced by arrows and spears, the warriors fell in the battlefield. Their clothes were dyed with blood, it seemed that they played holi.
ਲੀਯੋ ਜੀਤ ਬੈਰੀ ਕੀਆ ਆਨ ਡੇਰੰ ॥
leeyo jeet bairee keea aan dderan |
ਤੇਊ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਰੰ ਰਹੇ ਬਾਰਿ ਕੇਰੰ ॥੨੦॥
teaoo jaae paaran rahe baar keran |20|
After conquering the enemy, they came for rest at heir place of encampment, on the other side of the reiver. 20.
ਭਈ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ਕੇ ਅਰਧ ਜਾਮੰ ॥
bhee raatr gubaar ke aradh jaaman |
ਤਬੈ ਛੋਰਿਗੇ ਬਾਰ ਦੇਵੈ ਦਮਾਮੰ ॥
tabai chhorige baar devai damaaman |
Sometime after midnight they left, while beating the drums.
ਸਬੈ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਬੀਤੀ ਉਦਿਓ ਦਿਉਸਰਾਣੰ ॥
sabai raatr beetee udio diausaraanan |
ਚਲੇ ਬੀਰ ਚਾਲਾਕ ਖੱਗੰ ਖਿਲਾਣੰ ॥੨੧॥
chale beer chaalaak khagan khilaanan |21|
When the whole night ended and the sun arose, the warriors on out side marched hastily, brandishing their spears.21.
ਭਜਿਓ ਅਲਫ ਖਾਨੰ ਨ ਖਾਨਾ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਓ ॥
bhajio alaf khaanan na khaanaa sanbhaario |
ਭਜੇ ਅਉਰ ਬੀਰੰ ਨ ਧੀਰੰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
bhaje aaur beeran na dheeran bichaario |
Alif Khan fled away, leaving back his belongings. All the other warriors fled away and did not stay anywhere.
ਨਦੀ ਪੈ ਦਿਨੰ ਅਸਟ ਕੀਨੇ ਮੁਕਾਮੰ ॥
nadee pai dinan asatt keene mukaaman |
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਬੈ ਰਾਜ ਧਾਮੰ ॥੨੨॥
bhalee bhaant dekhe sabai raaj dhaaman |22|
I remained there on the bank of the river for eight more days and visited the palaces of all the chiefs.22.

Then I took leave and came home, they went there to settle the terms of peace.
ਸੰਧਿ ਇਨੈ ਉਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਈ ॥
sandh inai un kai sang kee |
ਹੇਤ ਕਥਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਇਤ ਭਈ ॥੨੩॥

I came to this side after destroying alsun on my way
ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕਨ ਕੇ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਸੁਖ ਆਨ ॥੨੪॥
bhaat anekan ke kare pur anand sukh aan |24|
And enjoyed in various ways after reaching Anandpur.24.

ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਣੈ ਕੀ ਧੋਖ ॥
mukaam kar ghar baisanaa nit chalanai kee dhokh |
They have made this their resting place and they sit at home, but the urge to depart is always there.
ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਤਾ ਪਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਲੋਕ ॥੧॥
mukaam taa par jaaneeai jaa rahai nihachal lok |1|
This would be known as a lasting place of rest, only if they were to remain stable and unchanging. ||1||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੈਸਿ ਮੁਕਾਮੇ ॥

What sort of a resting place is this world?
ਕਰਿ ਸਿਦਕੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਖਰਚੁ ਬਾਧਹੁ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar sidak karanee kharach baadhahu laag rahu naame |1| rahaau |
Doing deeds of faith, pack up the supplies for your journey, and remain committed to the Name. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋਗੀ ਤ ਆਸਣੁ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੈ ਮੁਲਾ ਬਹੈ ਮੁਕਾਮਿ ॥
jogee ta aasan kar bahai mulaa bahai mukaam |
The Yogis sit in their Yogic postures, and the Mullahs sit at their resting stations.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਪੋਥੀਆ ਸਿਧ ਬਹਹਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਥਾਨਿ ॥੨॥
panddit vakhaaneh potheea sidh baheh dev sathaan |2|
The Hindu Pandits recite from their books, and the Siddhas sit in the temples of their gods. ||2||
ਸੁਰ ਸਿਧ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਖ ਪੀਰ ਸਲਾਰ ॥
sur sidh gan gandharab mun jan sekh peer salaar |
The angels, Siddhas, worshippers of Shiva, heavenly musicians, silent sages, Saints, priests, preachers, spiritual teachers and commanders
ਦਰਿ ਕੂਚ ਕੂਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ ਅਵਰੇ ਭਿ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥
dar kooch koochaa kar ge avare bhi chalanahaar |3|
-each and every one has left, and all others shall depart as well. ||3||
ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਮਲੂਕ ਉਮਰੇ ਗਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕੂਚੁ ॥
sulataan khaan malook umare ge kar kar kooch |
The sultans and kings, the rich and the mighty, have marched away in succession.
ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤਿ ਕਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਦਿਲ ਸਮਝੁ ਤੂੰ ਭਿ ਪਹੂਚੁ ॥੪॥
gharree muhat ki chalanaa dil samajh toon bhi pahooch |4|
In a moment or two, we shall also depart. O my heart, understand that you must go as well! ||4||
ਸਬਦਾਹ ਮਾਹਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਤ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabadaah maeh vakhaaneeai viralaa ta boojhai koe |
This is described in the Shabads; only a few understand this!
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥
naanak vakhaanai benatee jal thal maheeal soe |5|
Nanak offers this prayer to the One who pervades the water, the land and the air. ||5||
ਅਲਾਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਕਾਦਰੁ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰੀਮੁ ॥
alaahu alakh agam kaadar karanahaar kareem |
He is Allah, the Unknowable, the Inaccessible, All-powerful and Merciful Creator.
ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣੀ ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਰਹੀਮੁ ॥੬॥
sabh dunee aavan jaavanee mukaam ek raheem |6|
All the world comes and goes-only the Merciful Lord is permanent. ||6||
ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਸਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
mukaam tis no aakheeai jis sis na hovee lekh |
Call permanent only the One, who does not have destiny inscribed upon His Forehead.
ਅਸਮਾਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਚਲਸੀ ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਓਹੀ ਏਕੁ ॥੭॥
asamaan dharatee chalasee mukaam ohee ek |7|
The sky and the earth shall pass away; He alone is permanent. ||7||
ਦਿਨ ਰਵਿ ਚਲੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਸਸਿ ਚਲੈ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਲਖ ਪਲੋਇ ॥
din rav chalai nis sas chalai taarikaa lakh paloe |
The day and the sun shall pass away; the night and the moon shall pass away; the hundreds of thousands of stars shall disappear.
ਮੁਕਾਮੁ ਓਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਗੋਇ ॥੮॥੧੭॥
mukaam ohee ek hai naanakaa sach bugoe |8|17|
He alone is permanent; Nanak speaks the Truth. ||8||17||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
guramukh kripaa kare bhagat keejai bin gur bhagat na hoe |
By God's Grace, the Gurmukh practices devotion; without the Guru, there is no devotional worship.
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
aapai aap milaae boojhai taa niramal hovai koe |
One who merges his own self into Him understands, and so becomes pure.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
har jeeo sachaa sachee baanee sabad milaavaa hoe |1|
The Dear Lord is True, and True is the Word of His Bani. Through the Word of the Shabad, Union with Him is obtained. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaaee re bhagatiheen kaahe jag aaeaa |
O Siblings of Destiny, without devotion, why have people even come into the world?
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poore gur kee sev na keenee birathaa janam gavaaeaa |1| rahaau |
They have not served the Perfect Guru; they have wasted their lives in vain. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aape har jagajeevan daataa aape bakhas milaae |
The Lord Himself, the Life of the World, is the Giver. He Himself forgives, and unites us with Himself.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਏ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
jeea jant e kiaa vechaare kiaa ko aakh sunaae |
What are these poor beings and creatures? What can they speak and say?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੨॥
guramukh aape de vaddiaaee aape sev karaae |2|
God Himself grants glory to the Gurmukhs; He joins them to His Service. ||2||
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
dekh kuttanb mohi lobhaanaa chaladiaa naal na jaaee |
Beholding your family, you are lured away by emotional attachment, but when you leave, they will not go with you.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
satigur sev gun nidhaan paaeaa tis kee keem na paaee |
Serving the True Guru, I have found the Treasure of Excellence. Its value cannot be estimated.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥
prabh sakhaa har jeeo meraa ante hoe sakhaaee |3|
The Dear Lord God is my Best Friend. In the end, He shall be my Companion and Support. ||3||
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
peeearrai jagajeevan daataa manamukh pat gavaaee |
In this world of my father's home, the Great Giver is the Life of the World. The self-willed manmukhs have lost their honor.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
bin satigur ko mag na jaanai andhe tthaur na kaaee |
Without the True Guru, no one knows the Way. The blind find no place of rest.
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਸਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੪॥
har sukhadaataa man nahee vasiaa ant geaa pachhutaaee |4|
If the Lord, the Giver of Peace, does not dwell within the mind, then they shall depart with regret in the end. ||4||
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
peeearrai jagajeevan daataa guramat man vasaaeaa |
In this world of my father's house, through the Guru's Teachings, I have cultivated within my mind the Great Giver, the Life of the World.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
anadin bhagat kareh din raatee haumai mohu chukaaeaa |
Night and day, performing devotional worship, day and night, ego and emotional attachment are removed.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
jis siau raataa taiso hovai sache sach samaaeaa |5|
And then, attuned to Him, we become like Him, truly absorbed in the True One. ||5||
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aape nadar kare bhaau laae gurasabadee beechaar |
Bestowing His Glance of Grace, He gives us His Love, and we contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
satigur seviai sehaj aoopajai haumai trisanaa maar |
Serving the True Guru, intuitive peace wells up, and ego and desire die.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
har gunadaataa sad man vasai sach rakhiaa ur dhaar |6|
The Lord, the Giver of Virtue, dwells forever within the minds of those who keep Truth enshrined within their hearts. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
prabh meraa sadaa niramalaa man niramal paaeaa jaae |
My God is forever Immaculate and Pure; with a pure mind, He can be found.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
naam nidhaan har man vasai haumai dukh sabh jaae |
If the Treasure of the Name of the Lord abides within the mind, egotism and pain are totally eliminated.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥
satigur sabad sunaaeaa hau sad balihaarai jaau |7|
The True Guru has instructed me in the Word of the Shabad. I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||7||
ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aapanai man chit kahai kahaae bin gur aap na jaaee |
Within your own conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness and conceit are not eradicated.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
har jeeo bhagat vachhal sukhadaataa kar kirapaa man vasaaee |
The Dear Lord is the Lover of His devotees, the Giver of Peace. By His Grace, He abides within the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੮॥
naanak sobhaa surat dee prabh aape guramukh de vaddiaaee |8|1|18|
O Nanak, God blesses us with the sublime awakening of consciousness; He Himself grants glorious greatness to the Gurmukh. ||8||1||18||
