Now I describe in chastened form those incarnations, which were assumed by Rudra
ਅਤਿ ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧਨ ਕੀਨ ॥
at jog saadhan keen |
ਤਬ ਗਰਬ ਕੇ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਨ ॥੧॥

Performing extreme austerities Rudra became egoistic.1.
ਸਰਿ ਆਪ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਅਉਰ ॥
sar aap jaan na aaur |
ਸਬ ਦੇਸ ਮੋ ਸਬ ਠੌਰ ॥
sab des mo sab tthauar |
He did not consider anyone equal to him in all place and countries, then Mahakal (the great death) in ire said to him thus
ਤਬ ਕੋਪਿ ਕੈ ਇਮ ਕਾਲ ॥
tab kop kai im kaal |
ਇਮ ਭਾਖਿ ਬੈਣ ਉਤਾਲ ॥੨॥
eim bhaakh bain utaal |2|
ਜੇ ਗਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਕਰੰਤ ॥
je garab lok karant |
ਤੇ ਜਾਨ ਕੂਪ ਪਰੰਤ ॥
te jaan koop parant |
“Those who become proud, they deliberately perform the action of falling into a well
ਮੁਰ ਨਾਮ ਗਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ॥
mur naam garab prahaar |
ਸੁਨ ਲੇਹੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੩॥
sun lehu rudr bichaar |3|
O Rudra! Listen to me attentively that my name is also the destroyer of ego.3.
ਕੀਅ ਗਰਬ ਕੋ ਮੁਖ ਚਾਰ ॥
keea garab ko mukh chaar |
ਕਛੁ ਚਿਤ ਮੋ ਅਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥
kachh chit mo abichaar |
ਜਬ ਧਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਤਨ ਸਾਤ ॥
jab dhare tin tan saat |
ਤਬ ਬਨੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੪॥
tab banee taa kee baat |4|
“Brahma had also become egoistic in his mind and the evil notions arose there, but when he took birth for seven times, he was then redeemed.4.
ਤਿਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਧਰੁ ਤੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
tim janam dhar tai jaae |
ਚਿਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਨੋ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

“O the king of sages! listen to what I say and in the same way, you may go and take birth on the earth
ਨਹੀ ਐਸ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰ ॥
nahee ais hoe udhaar |
ਸੁਨ ਲੇਹੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੫॥
sun lehu rudr bichaar |5|
Otherwise, O Rudra! You will not be redeemed in any other way.”5.
ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਏ ਸਿਵ ਬੈਨ ॥

ਹਠ ਛਾਡਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਨ ॥

ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨਿ ਗਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ॥

Hearing this, Shiva, considering the Lord as the destroyer of ego, and leaving his persistence, incarnated on earth.6.

ਜਿਮ ਕਥੇ ਸਰਬ ਰਾਜਾਨ ਰਾਜ ॥
jim kathe sarab raajaan raaj |
ਤਿਮ ਕਹੇ ਰਿਖਿਨ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਜ ॥
tim kahe rikhin sab hee samaaj |
ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਤਿਹ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਨ ॥
jih jih prakaar tih karam keen |
ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਜੇਮਿ ਦਿਜ ਬਰਨ ਲੀਨ ॥੭॥
jih bhaat jem dij baran leen |7|
The way, in which all the kings have been described, in the same way, the actions done by all the sages have been narrated as to how Rudra manifested himself in the castes of dvijas (twice born).7.
ਜੇ ਜੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਿਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥
je je charitr kine prakaas |
ਤੇ ਤੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਭਾਖੋ ਸੁ ਬਾਸ ॥
te te charitr bhaakho su baas |
Whatever deeds they brought to light, I relate them here
ਰਿਖਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਏਸ ਭਏ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਵ ॥
rikh putr es bhe rudr dev |
ਮੋਨੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਾਨੀ ਅਭੇਵ ॥੮॥
monee mahaan maanee abhev |8|
In this way, rudra became the sons of the sages, who adopted silence and attained recognition.8.
ਪੁਨਿ ਭਏ ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਰਿਖਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
pun bhe atr rikh mun mahaan |
ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
das chaar chaar bidiaa nidhaan |
Then he incarnated himself as sage Atrl, who the store of eighteen sciences
ਲਿਨੇ ਸੁ ਜੋਗ ਤਜਿ ਰਾਜ ਆਨਿ ॥
line su jog taj raaj aan |
ਸੇਵਿਆ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੯॥
seviaa rudr sanpat nidhaan |9|
He abandoned everything else and adopted Yoga as his way of life and served Rudra, the store of all wealth.9.
ਕਿਨੋ ਸੁ ਯੋਗ ਬਹੁ ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥
kino su yog bahu din pramaan |
ਰੀਝਿਓ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥
reejhio rudr taa par nidaan |
ਬਰੁ ਮਾਗ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਜੋ ਰੁਚੈ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
bar maag putr jo ruchai tohi |
ਬਰੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਤਉਨ ਮੈ ਦੇਉ ਤੋਹਿ ॥੧੦॥
bar daan taun mai deo tohi |10|
He performed austerities for a long time, on which, Rudra got pleased and said, “You may ask for any boon which you like, I shall grant it to you.”10.
ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰਿ ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਤਬ ਭਯੋ ਠਾਢ ॥
kar jor atr tab bhayo tthaadt |
ਉਠਿ ਭਾਗ ਆਨ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਬਾਢ ॥
autth bhaag aan anuraag baadt |
Then the sage Atri stood up with folded hands and his love for Rudra was further increased in his mind
ਗਦ ਗਦ ਸੁ ਬੈਣ ਭਭਕੰਤ ਨੈਣ ॥
gad gad su bain bhabhakant nain |
ਰੋਮਾਨ ਹਰਖ ਉਚਰੇ ਸੁ ਬੈਣ ॥੧੧॥
romaan harakh uchare su bain |11|
He became very happy the tears flowed form his eyes and his hair showed signs of jubilation, when he said11
ਜੋ ਦੇਤ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਰੁ ਰੀਝ ਮੋਹਿ ॥
jo det rudr bar reejh mohi |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਹੋਇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸਮ ਤੁਲਿ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
grih hoe putr sam tul tohi |
“O Rudra! if you want to grant me a boon, then give me a son like you
ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਤਥਾਸਤੁ ਭਏ ਅੰਤ੍ਰ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
keh kai tathaasat bhe antr dhiaan |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਗਯੋ ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾਨ ॥੧੨॥
grih gayo atr mun man mahaan |12|
” Rudra saying “let it be”, disappeared and the sage came back to his home.12.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਰੀ ਆਨਿ ਅਨਸੂਆ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

ਜਨੁ ਪਠਿਓ ਤਤੁ ਨਿਜ ਸਿਵ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ॥
jan patthio tat nij siv nikaar |
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਰੁ ਬਿਸਨ ਨਿਜ ਤੇਜ ਕਾਢਿ ॥
brahamaa ru bisan nij tej kaadt |
ਆਏ ਸੁ ਮਧਿ ਅਨਿਸੂਆ ਛਾਡਿ ॥੧੩॥
aae su madh anisooaa chhaadd |13|
On returning, he married Ansuya, who had been blessed by Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu by their Lustre.13.
ਭਈ ਕਰਤ ਜੋਗ ਬਹੁ ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥
bhee karat jog bahu din pramaan |
ਅਨਸੂਆ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਨ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
anasooaa naam gun gan mahaan |
Ansuya also, in consonance with her name, inspection being a charming lady, performed austerities
ਅਤਿ ਤੇਜਵੰਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰੰਗ ॥
at tejavant sobhaa surang |
ਜਨੁ ਧਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਦੂਸਰ ਅਨੰਗ ॥੧੪॥
jan dharaa roop doosar anang |14|
She was extremely lustrous and glorious and it appeared that she was the second manifestation of the goddess of love (Rati).14.
ਸੋਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਨੰਤ ॥
sobhaa apaar sundar anant |
ਸਊਹਾਗ ਭਾਗ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਲਸੰਤ ॥
saoohaag bhaag bahu bidh lasant |
ਜਿਹ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੂਪ ਸੋਰਹਿ ਲੁਭਾਇ ॥
jih nirakh roop soreh lubhaae |
ਆਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਬਰਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੫॥
aabhaa apaar baranee na jaae |15|
That pretty and married fortunate woman was glorious in various ways on seeing whom, the personification of beauty also got allured her glory is indescribable.15.
ਨਿਸ ਨਾਥ ਦੇਖਿ ਆਨਨ ਰਿਸਾਨ ॥
nis naath dekh aanan risaan |
ਜਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਨੈਨ ਲਹਿ ਰੋਸ ਮਾਨ ॥
jal jaae nain leh ros maan |
Seeing her face, the moon was filled with jealousy and wept in affection
ਤਮ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਕੇਸ ਕੀਅ ਨੀਚ ਡੀਠ ॥
tam nirakh kes keea neech ddeetth |
ਛਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਜਾਨੁ ਗਿਰ ਹੇਮ ਪੀਠ ॥੧੬॥
chhap rahaa jaan gir hem peetth |16|
Seeing her hair, he bowed down her looks and even the Sumeru mountain, seeing her beauty, concealed himself.16.
ਕੰਠਹਿ ਕਪੋਤਿ ਲਖਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਨ ॥
kanttheh kapot lakh kop keen |
ਨਾਸਾ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਬਨਿ ਕੀਰ ਲੀਨ ॥
naasaa nihaar ban keer leen |
Seeing her neck, the female pigeon got enraged and the parrot seeing her nostril hid himself in the forest
ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਰਿਸਾਨ ॥
romaaval her jamunaa risaan |
ਲਜਾ ਮਰੰਤ ਸਾਗਰ ਡੁਬਾਨ ॥੧੭॥
lajaa marant saagar ddubaan |17|
Seeing her hair, even Yamuna was filled with anger and seeing her serenity, the ocean felt shy.17.
ਬਾਹੂ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਲਾਜੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਨਾਲ ॥
baahoo bilok laajai mrinaal |
ਖਿਸਿਯਾਨ ਹੰਸ ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਚਾਲ ॥
khisiyaan hans avilok chaal |
Seeing her arms, the lotus-stalk felt she and the swans, seeing her gait got angry
ਜੰਘਾ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਕਦਲੀ ਲਜਾਨ ॥
janghaa bilok kadalee lajaan |
ਨਿਸ ਰਾਟ ਆਪ ਘਟਿ ਰੂਪ ਮਾਨ ॥੧੮॥
nis raatt aap ghatt roop maan |18|
Seeing her legs, the Kadli trees became shyful and the moon considered his beauty inferior to her.18.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਬਰਣੋ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ॥
eih bhaat taas barano singaar |
ਕੋ ਸਕੈ ਕਬਿ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
ko sakai kab mahimaa uchaar |
In this way, the charm of her beauty is described, and no poet can utter her greatness
ਐਸੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ॥
aisee saroop avilok atr |
ਜਨੁ ਲੀਨ ਰੂਪ ਕੋ ਛੀਨ ਛਤ੍ਰ ॥੧੯॥
jan leen roop ko chheen chhatr |19|
Seeing such a beauteous lady, the sage Atri believed that he had obtained canopied kingdom of beauty.19.
ਕੀਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਗਿ ਤਿਹ ਸਮੇ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
keenee pratag tih same naar |
ਬ੍ਰਯਾਹੈ ਨ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗੈ ਭਤਾਰ ॥
brayaahai na bhog bhogai bhataar |
ਮੈ ਬਰੌ ਤਾਸੁ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਚਿਤ ॥
mai barau taas ruch maan chit |
ਜੋ ਸਹੈ ਕਸਟ ਐਸੇ ਪਵਿਤ ॥੨੦॥
jo sahai kasatt aise pavit |20|
That lady had vowed that she would not marry her husband for sexual enjoyment, and would wed that person, who would have the strength to endure the sacred tribulations of austrerities.20.
ਰਿਖਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਤਬ ਬਰ੍ਰਯੋ ਵਾਹਿ ॥
rikh maan bain tab barrayo vaeh |
ਜਨੁ ਲੀਨ ਲੂਟ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਤਾਹਿ ॥
jan leen loott seegaar taeh |
The sage (Arti) had agreed with her vow and married her and sacrificed himself on her charm of beauty
ਲੈ ਗਯੋ ਧਾਮਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਉਨ ॥
lai gayo dhaam kar naar taun |
ਪਿਤ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ਮੁਨਿ ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਜਉਨ ॥੨੧॥
pit dat dev mun atr jaun |21|
He, the sage Atri, who was the father of Dattatreya, making her his wife, brought her home.21.
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਤਿਤੁਕੀ ॥

Sorat'h, First Mehl, Thi-Thukay:
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬੰਧਨੀ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਬੰਧਕਾਰੀ ॥
aasaa manasaa bandhanee bhaaee karam dharam bandhakaaree |
Hope and desire are entrapments, O Siblings of Destiny. Religious rituals and ceremonies are traps.
ਪਾਪਿ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
paap pun jag jaaeaa bhaaee binasai naam visaaree |
Because of good and bad deeds, one is born into the world, O Siblings of Destiny; forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he is ruined.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਗਿ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਮ ਸਭੇ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
eih maaeaa jag mohanee bhaaee karam sabhe vekaaree |1|
This Maya is the enticer of the world, O Siblings of Destiny; all such actions are corrupt. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਾਰੀ ॥
sun panddit karamaa kaaree |
Listen, O ritualistic Pandit:
ਜਿਤੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਸੁ ਆਤਮ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit karam sukh aoopajai bhaaee su aatam tat beechaaree | rahaau |
that religious ritual which produces happiness, O Siblings of Destiny, is contemplation of the essence of the soul. ||Pause||
ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਬਕੈ ਖੜੋ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥
saasat bed bakai kharro bhaaee karam karahu sansaaree |
You may stand and recite the Shaastras and the Vedas, O Siblings of Destiny, but these are just worldly actions.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਭਾਈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ॥
paakhandd mail na chookee bhaaee antar mail vikaaree |
Filth cannot be washed away by hypocrisy, O Siblings of Destiny; the filth of corruption and sin is within you.
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਡੂਬੀ ਮਾਕੁਰੀ ਭਾਈ ਊਂਡੀ ਸਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
ein bidh ddoobee maakuree bhaaee aoonddee sir kai bhaaree |2|
This is how the spider is destroyed, O Siblings of Destiny, by falling head-long in its own web. ||2||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਘਣੀ ਵਿਗੂਤੀ ਭਾਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
duramat ghanee vigootee bhaaee doojai bhaae khuaaee |
So many are destroyed by their own evil-mindedness, O Siblings of Destiny; in the love of duality, they are ruined.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
bin satigur naam na paaeeai bhaaee bin naamai bharam na jaaee |
Without the True Guru, the Name is not obtained, O Siblings of Destiny; without the Name, doubt does not depart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ॥੩॥
satigur seve taa sukh paae bhaaee aavan jaan rahaaee |3|
If one serves the True Guru, then he obtains peace, O Siblings of Destiny; his comings and goings are ended. ||3||
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
saach sehaj gur te aoopajai bhaaee man niramal saach samaaee |
True celestial peace comes from the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny; the immaculate mind is absorbed into the True Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur seve so boojhai bhaaee gur bin mag na paaee |
One who serves the Guru, understands, O Siblings of Destiny; without the Guru, the way is not found.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥੪॥
jis antar lobh ki karam kamaavai bhaaee koorr bol bikh khaaee |4|
What can anyone do, with greed within? O Siblings of Destiny, by telling lies, they eat poison. ||4||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਦਹੀ ਵਿਲੋਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਤਥੁ ॥
panddit dahee viloeeai bhaaee vichahu nikalai tath |
O Pandit, by churning cream, butter is produced.
ਜਲੁ ਮਥੀਐ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਏਹਾ ਵਥੁ ॥
jal matheeai jal dekheeai bhaaee ihu jag ehaa vath |
By churning water, you shall only see water, O Siblings of Destiny; this world is like that.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਚੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਉ ਅਲਖੁ ॥੫॥
gur bin bharam vigoocheeai bhaaee ghatt ghatt deo alakh |5|
Without the Guru, he is ruined by doubt, O Siblings of Destiny; the unseen Divine Lord is in each and every heart. ||5||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਤਾਗੋ ਸੂਤ ਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਬਾਧੋ ਮਾਇ ॥
eihu jag taago soot ko bhaaee deh dis baadho maae |
This world is like a thread of cotton, O Siblings of Destiny, which Maya has tied on all ten sides.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਾਠਿ ਨ ਛੂਟਈ ਭਾਈ ਥਾਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
bin gur gaatth na chhoottee bhaaee thaake karam kamaae |
Without the Guru, the knots cannot be untied, O Siblings of Destiny; I am so tired of religious rituals.
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥
eihu jag bharam bhulaaeaa bhaaee kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |6|
This world is deluded by doubt, O Siblings of Destiny; no one can say anything about it. ||6||
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਭੈ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
gur miliai bhau man vasai bhaaee bhai maranaa sach lekh |
Meeting with the Guru, the Fear of God comes to abide in the mind; to die in the Fear of God is one's true destiny.
ਮਜਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥
majan daan changiaaeea bhaaee daragah naam visekh |
In the Court of the Lord, the Naam is far superior to ritualistic cleansing baths, charity and good deeds, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੭॥
gur ankas jin naam drirraaeaa bhaaee man vasiaa chookaa bhekh |7|
One who implants the Naam within himself, through the Guru's halter - O Siblings of Destiny, the Lord dwells in his mind, and he is free of hypocrisy. ||7||
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਾਟੁ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
eihu tan haatt saraaf ko bhaaee vakhar naam apaar |
This body is the jeweller's shop, O Siblings of Destiny; the incomparable Naam is the merchandise.
ਇਹੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
eihu vakhar vaapaaree so drirrai bhaaee gur sabad kare veechaar |
The merchant secures this merchandise, O Siblings of Destiny, by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਧਨੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥
dhan vaapaaree naanakaa bhaaee mel kare vaapaar |8|2|
Blessed is the merchant, O Nanak, who meets the Guru, and engages in this trade. ||8||2||
