jag jag saaj bhale kare |
ਦੁਖ ਪੁੰਜ ਦੀਨਨ ਕੇ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੦੨॥

Everyone heard his praise at many places and the enemies, listening to his praises would become fearful and suffer mental agony, he removed the afficions of the poor by performing the Yajnas in a nice manner.102.

ਪੁਨਿ ਬੇਣੁ ਰਾਜ ਮਹੇਸ ਭਯੋ ॥

ਨਿਜਿ ਡੰਡ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਨ ਲਯੋ ॥
nij ddandd kaahoon te na layo |
ਜੀਅ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਰਾ ॥
jeea bhaat bhaat sukhee naraa |
ਅਤਿ ਗਰਬ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਛੁਟਿਓ ਧਰਾ ॥੧੦੩॥
at garab srab chhuttio dharaa |103|
Then Ben became the king of the earth, he never charged tax from anyone, the beings were happy in various ways and none had any pride in him.103.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਬ ਦਿਖਿਯਤ ਸੁਖੀ ॥
jeea jant sab dikhiyat sukhee |
ਤਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵਤ ਨ ਦੁਖੀ ॥
tar drisatt aavat na dukhee |
ਸਬ ਠੌਰ ਠੌਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਬਸੀ ॥
sab tthauar tthauar prithee basee |
ਜਨੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਰਾਜ ਸਿਰੀ ਲਸੀ ॥੧੦੪॥

The beings were happy in various ways and even the trees did not seem to have any suffering, there was praise of the king everywhere on the earth.104.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਾਜ ਕਮਾਇ ਕੈ ॥

ਸੁਖ ਦੇਸ ਸਰਬ ਬਸਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
sukh des sarab basaae kai |
ਬਹੁ ਦੋਖ ਦੀਨਨ ਕੇ ਦਹੇ ॥
bahu dokh deenan ke dahe |
ਸੁਨਿ ਥਕਤ ਦੇਵ ਸਮਸਤ ਭਏ ॥੧੦੫॥
sun thakat dev samasat bhe |105|
In this way, keeping all his country happy, the king removed many afflictions of the lowly and seeing his splendour, all the gods also appreciated him.105.
ਬਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਕਮਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
bahu raaj saaj kamaae kai |
ਸਿਰਿ ਅਤ੍ਰਪਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ਕੈ ॥

ਪੁਨਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਿਲੀ ॥

Ruling for a very long time and getting the canopy swung over his head, the light of the soul of that mighty king Ben merged in the Supreme Light of the Lord.106.

abikaar bhoop jite bhe |
ਕਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੈ ਗਏ ॥

ਕਬਿ ਕੌਨ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਨੈ ਗਨੈ ॥
kab kauan naam tinai ganai |
ਸੰਕੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਇਤੇ ਭਨੈ ॥੧੦੭॥

All the immaculate kings ultimately merged in the Lord after their rule, which poet can enumerate their names? Therefore, I have only hinted about them.107.

ਨਾਮ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਵਿ ਕੋ ਧਰਿ ॥
naam sakai tin ke kav ko dhar |
ਨਾਮ ਜਥਾਮਤਿ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
naam jathaamat bhaakh sunaaoo |
ਚਿਤ ਤਊ ਅਪਨੇ ਡਰ ਪਾਊ ॥੧੦੮॥
chit taoo apane ddar paaoo |108|
All the kings who have ruled over the earth, which poet can describe their names? I fear the increase of this volume by narrating their names.108.
ਬੇਨੁ ਗਏ ਜਗ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਕਰਿ ॥

ਮਾਨਧਾਤ ਭਏ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਧਰਿ ॥

After the rule of Ben, Mandhata became the king
ਬਾਸਵ ਲੋਗ ਗਏ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਵਹ ॥
baasav log ge jab hee vah |
ਉਠਿ ਦਯੋ ਅਰਧਾਸਨ ਬਾਸਵ ਤਿਹ ॥੧੦੯॥
autth dayo aradhaasan baasav tih |109|
When he went to the country of Indra, Indra gave him half his seat.109.
ਰੋਸ ਭਰ︀ਯੋ ਤਬ ਮਾਨ ਮਹੀਧਰ ॥

ਹਾਕਿ ਗਹ੍ਰਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਖਗ ਭਯੰਕਰ ॥

The king Mandhata was filled with rage and challenging him, held his dagger in his hand
ਮਾਰਨ ਲਾਗ ਜਬੈ ਰਿਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਹਿ ॥
maaran laag jabai ris indreh |
ਬਾਹ ਗਹੀ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਦਿਜਿੰਦ੍ਰਹਿ ॥੧੧੦॥
baah gahee tatakaal dijindreh |110|
When, in his fury, he was about to strike Indra, then Brihaspati immediately caught his hand.110.
ਨਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਾਸਵ ਕੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ॥
naas karo jin baasav ko nrip |
ਆਸਨ ਅਰਧ ਦਯੋ ਤੁਹ ਯਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ॥
aasan aradh dayo tuh yaa brat |
He said, “O king! do not strike Indra, there is reason on his part for offering you half of his seat
ਹੈ ਲਵਨਾਸ੍ਰ ਮਹਾਸੁਰ ਭੂਧਰਿ ॥
hai lavanaasr mahaasur bhoodhar |
ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਮਾਰ ਸਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਿਉ ਕਰ ॥੧੧੧॥
taeh na maar sake tum kiau kar |111|
There is one demon named Lavanasura on earth, why have you not been able to kill him as yet?111.
ਜੌ ਤੁਮ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਕੈ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
jau tum taeh sanghaar kai aavahu |
ਤੌ ਤੁਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
tau tum indr singhaasan paavahu |
ਐਸੇ ਕੈ ਅਰਧ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਬੈਠਹੁ ॥
aise kai aradh singhaasan baitthahu |
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੋ ਪਰ ਨਾਕੁ ਨ ਐਠਹੁ ॥੧੧੨॥
saach kaho par naak na aitthahu |112|
“When you will come after killing him, you will then have the full seat of Indra, therefore now be seated on half the seat and accepting this truth, do not exhibit your anger.”112.

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਨੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥

O Lord Master, You are the ocean of excellence.
ਘਰੁ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
ghar lasakar sabh teraa |
My home and all my possessions are Yours.
ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
rakhavaale gur gopaalaa |
The Guru, the Lord of the world, is my Savior.
ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥
sabh jeea bhe deaalaa |1|
All beings have become kind and compassionate to me. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਅਨਦਿ ਰਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਾ ॥
jap anad rhau gur charanaa |
Meditating on the Guru's feet, I am in bliss.
ਭਉ ਕਤਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhau kateh nahee prabh saranaa | rahaau |
There is no fear at all, in God's Sanctuary. ||Pause||
ਤੇਰਿਆ ਦਾਸਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
teriaa daasaa ridai muraaree |
You dwell in the hearts of Your slaves, Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਬਿਚਲ ਨੀਵ ਉਸਾਰੀ ॥
prabh abichal neev usaaree |
God has laid the eternal foundation.
ਬਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਤਕੀਆ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
bal dhan takeea teraa |
You are my strength, wealth and support.
ਤੂ ਭਾਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
too bhaaro tthaakur meraa |2|
You are my Almighty Lord and Master. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin jin saadhasang paaeaa |
Whoever finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥
so prabh aap taraaeaa |
is saved by God Himself.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
kar kirapaa naam ras deea |
By His Grace, He has blessed me with the sublime essence of the Naam.
ਕੁਸਲ ਖੇਮ ਸਭ ਥੀਆ ॥੩॥
kusal khem sabh theea |3|
All joy and pleasure then came to me. ||3||
ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
hoe prabhoo sahaaee |
God became my helper and my best friend;
ਸਭ ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
sabh utth laagee paaee |
everyone rises up and bows down at my feet.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
saas saas prabh dhiaaeeai |
With each and every breath, meditate on God;
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੪॥
har mangal naanak gaaeeai |4|4|54|
O Nanak, sing the songs of joy to the Lord. ||4||4||54||

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
sookh sehaj aanandaa |
Celestial peace and bliss have come,
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦਾ ॥
prabh milio man bhaavandaa |
meeting God, who is so pleasing to my mind.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
poorai gur kirapaa dhaaree |
The Perfect Guru showered me with His Mercy,
ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਭਈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
taa gat bhee hamaaree |1|
and I attained salvation. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
har kee prem bhagat man leenaa |
My mind is absorbed in loving devotional worship of the Lord,
ਨਿਤ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਤ ਬੀਨਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nit baaje anahat beenaa | rahaau |
and the unstruck melody of the celestial sound current ever resounds within me. ||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਸਤਾਣੀ ॥
har charan kee ott sataanee |
The Lord's feet are my all-powerful shelter and support;
ਸਭ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਲੋਕਾਣੀ ॥
sabh chookee kaan lokaanee |
my dependence on other people is totally finished.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jagajeevan daataa paaeaa |
I have found the Life of the world, the Great Giver;
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
har rasak rasak gun gaaeaa |2|
in joyful rapture, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
prabh kaattiaa jam kaa faasaa |
God has cut away the noose of death.
ਮਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸਾ ॥
man pooran hoee aasaa |
My mind's desires have been fulfilled;
ਜਹ ਪੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਸੋਈ ॥
jeh pekhaa teh soee |
wherever I look, He is there.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥
har prabh bin avar na koee |3|
Without the Lord God, there is no other at all. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh raakhe |
In His Mercy, God has protected and preserved me.
ਸਭਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
sabh janam janam dukh laathe |
I am rid of all the pains of countless incarnations.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
nirbhau naam dhiaaeaa |
I have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Fearless Lord;
ਅਟਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੫॥
attal sukh naanak paaeaa |4|5|55|
O Nanak, I have found eternal peace. ||4||5||55||

ਠਾਢਿ ਪਾਈ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥

The Creator has brought utter peace to my home;
ਤਾਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਰਵਾਰੇ ॥
taap chhodd geaa paravaare |
the fever has left my family.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
gur poorai hai raakhee |
The Perfect Guru has saved us.
ਸਰਣਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਤਾਕੀ ॥੧॥
saran sache kee taakee |1|
I sought the Sanctuary of the True Lord. ||1||
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
paramesar aap hoaa rakhavaalaa |
The Transcendent Lord Himself has become my Protector.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saant sehaj sukh khin meh upaje man hoaa sadaa sukhaalaa | rahaau |
Tranquility, intuitive peace and poise welled up in an instant, and my mind was comforted forever. ||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਦਾਰੂ ॥
har har naam deeo daaroo |
The Lord, Har, Har, gave me the medicine of His Name,
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਬਿਦਾਰੂ ॥
tin sagalaa rog bidaaroo |
which has cured all disease.
ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
apanee kirapaa dhaaree |
He extended His Mercy to me,
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਬਾਤ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
tin sagalee baat savaaree |2|
and resolved all these affairs. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
prabh apanaa birad samaariaa |
God confirmed His loving nature;
ਹਮਰਾ ਗੁਣੁ ਅਵਗੁਣੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
hamaraa gun avagun na beechaariaa |
He did not take my merits or demerits into account.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਖੀ ॥
gur kaa sabad bheo saakhee |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become manifest,
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਲਾਜ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੩॥
tin sagalee laaj raakhee |3|
and through it, my honor was totally preserved. ||3||
ਬੋਲਾਇਆ ਬੋਲੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
bolaaeaa bolee teraa |
I speak as You cause me to speak;
ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥
too saahib gunee gaheraa |
O Lord and Master, You are the ocean of excellence.
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀ ॥
jap naanak naam sach saakhee |
Nanak chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, according to the Teachings of Truth.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੬॥
apune daas kee paij raakhee |4|6|56|
God preserves the honor of His slaves. ||4||6||56||
