Then there was a most glorious king Yayati, whose fame had spread in the fourteen worlds.90.

That beautiful king was most glorious, capable, expert in qualities and had faith in God.94.

The king had knowledge of Shastras, he was extremely furious in war, he was the fulfiller of all wishes like Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow.95.

The king with his bloody dagger was and invincible, complete, furious and powerful warrior.96.

When he drew his sword, he was like KAL (death) for his enemies, and his magnificence was like the fires of the sun.97.

When he fought, none of his limbs turned back, none of his enemies could stand before him and thus ran away.98.

The moon stood wonder-stuck in his presence, the heart of Indra throbbed violently, the ganas were destroyed and the mountains also fled away.101.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ਸੋਈ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jeea jantr sabh tis ke kee soee sant sahaaee |
All beings and creatures were created by Him; He alone is the support and friend of the Saints.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥
apune sevak kee aape raakhai pooran bhee baddaaee |1|
He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; their glorious greatness becomes perfect. ||1||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

The Perfect Supreme Lord God is always with me.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਭ ਰਾਖੀ ਹੋਏ ਸਰਬ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The Perfect Guru has perfectly and totally protected me, and now everyone is kind and compassionate to me. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
anadin naanak naam dhiaae jeea praan kaa daataa |
Night and day, Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is the Giver of the soul, and the breath of life itself.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੨੨॥੫੦॥
apune daas kau kantth laae raakhai jiau baarik pit maataa |2|22|50|
He hugs His slave close in His loving embrace, like the mother and father hug their child. ||2||22||50||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਮਿਲਿ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
mil panchahu nahee sahasaa chukaaeaa |
Meeting with the council, my doubts were not dispelled.
ਸਿਕਦਾਰਹੁ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਆਇਆ ॥
sikadaarahu neh pateeaeaa |
The chiefs did not give me satisfaction.
ਉਮਰਾਵਹੁ ਆਗੈ ਝੇਰਾ ॥
aumaraavahu aagai jheraa |
I presented my dispute to the noblemen as well.
ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
mil raajan raam niberaa |1|
But it was only settled by meeting with the King, my Lord. ||1||
ਅਬ ਢੂਢਨ ਕਤਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ab dtoodtan katahu na jaaee |
Now, I do not go searching anywhere else,
ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gobid bhette gur gosaaee | rahaau |
because I have met the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. ||Pause||
ਆਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥
aaeaa prabh darabaaraa |
When I came to God's Darbaar, His Holy Court,
ਤਾ ਸਗਲੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥
taa sagalee mittee pookaaraa |
then all of my cries and complaints were settled.
ਲਬਧਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
labadh aapanee paaee |
Now that I have attained what I had sought,
ਤਾ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
taa kat aavai kat jaaee |2|
where should I come and where should I go? ||2||
ਤਹ ਸਾਚ ਨਿਆਇ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
teh saach niaae niberaa |
There, true justice is administered.
ਊਹਾ ਸਮ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਮ ਚੇਰਾ ॥
aoohaa sam tthaakur sam cheraa |
There, the Lord Master and His disciple are one and the same.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
antarajaamee jaanai |
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਲਤ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
bin bolat aap pachhaanai |3|
Without our speaking, He understands. ||3||
ਸਰਬ ਥਾਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
sarab thaan ko raajaa |
He is the King of all places.
ਤਹ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਅਗਾਜਾ ॥
teh anahad sabad agaajaa |
There, the unstruck melody of the Shabad resounds.
ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
tis peh kiaa chaturaaee |
Of what use is cleverness when dealing with Him?
ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੫੧॥
mil naanak aap gavaaee |4|1|51|
Meeting with Him, O Nanak, one loses his self-conceit. ||4||1||51||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਹੁ ॥
hiradai naam vasaaeihu |
Enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within your heart;
ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਇਹੁ ॥
ghar baitthe guroo dhiaaeihu |
sitting within your own home, meditate on the Guru.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
gur poorai sach kahiaa |
The Perfect Guru has spoken the Truth;
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧॥
so sukh saachaa lahiaa |1|
the True Peace is obtained only from the Lord. ||1||
ਅਪੁਨਾ ਹੋਇਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
apunaa hoeo gur miharavaanaa |
My Guru has become merciful.
ਅਨਦ ਸੂਖ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anad sookh kaliaan mangal siau ghar aae kar isanaanaa | rahaau |
In bliss, peace, pleasure and joy, I have returned to my own home, after my purifying bath. ||Pause||
ਸਾਚੀ ਗੁਰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
saachee gur vaddiaaee |
True is the glorious greatness of the Guru;
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
taa kee keemat kehan na jaaee |
His worth cannot be described.
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ॥
sir saahaa paatisaahaa |
He is the Supreme Overlord of kings.
ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤ ਮਨਿ ਓਮਾਹਾ ॥੨॥
gur bhettat man omaahaa |2|
Meeting with the Guru, the mind is enraptured. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
sagal paraachhat laathe |
All sins are washed away,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
mil saadhasangat kai saathe |
meeting with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
gun nidhaan har naamaa |
The Lord's Name is the treasure of excellence;
ਜਪਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੩॥
jap pooran hoe kaamaa |3|
chanting it, one's affairs are perfectly resolved. ||3||
ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
gur keeno mukat duaaraa |
The Guru has opened the door of liberation,
ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੈ ਜੈਕਾਰਾ ॥
sabh srisatt karai jaikaaraa |
and the entire world applauds Him with cheers of victory.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
naanak prabh merai saathe |
O Nanak, God is always with me;
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੨॥
janam maran bhai laathe |4|2|52|
my fears of birth and death are gone. ||4||2||52||

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

The Perfect Guru has granted His Grace,
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਲੋਚ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
prabh pooree loch hamaaree |
and God has fulfilled my desire.
ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
kar isanaan grihi aae |
After taking my bath of purification, I returned to my home,
ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
anad mangal sukh paae |1|
and I found bliss, happiness and peace. ||1||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥
santahu raam naam nisatareeai |
O Saints, salvation comes from the Lord's Name.
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aootthat baitthat har har dhiaaeeai anadin sukrit kareeai |1| rahaau |
While standing up and sitting down, meditate on the Lord's Name. Night and day, do good deeds. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਕੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
sant kaa maarag dharam kee paurree ko vaddabhaagee paae |
The way of the Saints is the ladder of righteous living, found only by great good fortune.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਨਾਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
kott janam ke kilabikh naase har charanee chit laae |2|
The sins of millions of incarnations are washed away, by focusing your consciousness on the Lord's feet. ||2||
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
ausatat karahu sadaa prabh apane jin pooree kal raakhee |
So sing the Praises of your God forever; His almighty power is perfect.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਭਏ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀ ॥੩॥
jeea jant sabh bhe pavitraa satigur kee sach saakhee |3|
All beings and creatures are purified, listening to the True Teachings of the True Guru. ||3||
ਬਿਘਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
bighan binaasan sabh dukh naasan satigur naam drirraaeaa |
The True Guru has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; it is the Eliminator of obstructions, the Destroyer of all pains.
ਖੋਏ ਪਾਪ ਭਏ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਵਨ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੩॥
khoe paap bhe sabh paavan jan naanak sukh ghar aaeaa |4|3|53|
All of my sins were erased, and I have been purified; servant Nanak has returned to his home of peace. ||4||3||53||
