ਮਾਰਿ ਨਜਾਬਤ ਖਾਨ ਕੋ ਸੰਗੋ ਜੁਝੈ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥

maar najaabat khaan ko sango jujhai jujhaar |

The brave warrior Sago Shah fell down after killing Najbat Khan.

ਹਾ ਹਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਕੈ ਭਇਓ ਸੁਰਗ ਲੋਕ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥੨੩॥

haa haa ih lokai bheo surag lok jaikaar |23|

There were lamentations in his world and rejoicing in heaven.23.

BHUJANG STANZA

ਲਖੇ ਸਾਹ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਜੁੱਝੇ ਜੁਝਾਰੰ ॥

lakhe saah sangraam jujhe jujhaaran |

ਤਵੰ ਕੀਟ ਬਾਣੰ ਕਮਾਣੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥

tavan keett baanan kamaanan sanbhaaran |

When this lowly person saw Shah Sangram falling (while fighting bravely) he held aloft his bow and arrows.

ਹਨਿਯੋ ਏਕ ਖਾਨੰ ਖਿਆਲੰ ਖਤੰਗੰ ॥

haniyo ek khaanan khiaalan khatangan |

ਡਸਿਯੋ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੁ ਸ︀ਯਾਮੰ ਭੁਜੰਗੰ ॥੨੪॥

ddasiyo satru ko jaan sayaaman bhujangan |24|

He, fixing his gaze on a Khan, shot an arrow, which stung the enemy like a black cobra, who (the Khan) fell down.24.

ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਮ ਸੋ ਬਾਣ ਦੂਜੋ ਸੰਭਾਰਯੋ ॥

giriyo bhoom so baan doojo sanbhaarayo |

ਮੁਖੰ ਭੀਖਨੰ ਖਾਨ ਕੇ ਤਾਨ ਮਾਰਯੋ ॥

mukhan bheekhanan khaan ke taan maarayo |

He drew out another arrow and aimed and shot it on the face of Bhikhan Khan.

ਭਜਿਯੋ ਖਾਨ ਖੂਨੀ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਖੇਤ ਤਾਜੀ ॥

bhajiyo khaan khoonee rahiyo khet taajee |

ਤਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤੀਜੇ ਲਗੇ ਬਾਣ ਬਾਜੀ ॥੨੫॥

taje praan teeje lage baan baajee |25|

The bloody Khan fled away leaving his horse in the field, who was killed with the third arrow.25.

ਛੁਟੀ ਮੂਰਛਨਾ ਹਰੀਚੰਦੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥

chhuttee moorachhanaa hareechandan sanbhaare |

ਗਹੇ ਬਾਣ ਕਾਮਾਨ ਭੇ ਐਂਚ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

gahe baan kaamaan bhe ainch maare |

After regaining consciousness from the swoon, Hari Chand shot his arrows with unerring aim.

ਲਗੇ ਅੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥

lage ang jaa ke rahe naa sanbhaaran |

ਤਨੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਲੋਕੰ ਪਧਾਰੰ ॥੨੬॥

tanan tiaag te devalokan padhaaran |26|

Whosoever was struck, fell down unconscious, and leaving his body, went to the heavenly abode.26.

ਦੁਯੰ ਬਾਨ ਖੈਂਚੇ ਇਕੰ ਬਾਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

duyan baan khainche ikan baar maare |

ਬਲੀ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਜੀਨ ਤਾਜੀ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥

balee beer baajeen taajee bidaare |

He aimed and shot two arrows at the same time and did not care for the selection of his target.

ਜਿਸੈ ਬਾਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥

jisai baan laagai rahai na sanbhaaran |

ਤਨੰ ਬੇਧਿ ਕੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਾਰੰ ਸਿਧਾਰੰ ॥੨੭॥

tanan bedh kai taeh paaran sidhaaran |27|

Whosoever was struck and pierced by his arrow, went straight to the other world.27.

ਸਭੈ ਸ੍ਵਾਮਿ ਧਰਮੰ ਸੁ ਬੀਰੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥

sabhai svaam dharaman su beeran sanbhaare |

ਡਕੀ ਡਾਕਣੀ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ਬਕਾਰੇ ॥

ddakee ddaakanee bhoot pretan bakaare |

The warriors remained true to their duty in the field, the witches and ghosts drank blood to their fill and raised shrill voices.

ਹਸੇ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਔ ਸੁੱਧ ਸਿੱਧੰ ॥

hase beer baitaal aau sudh sidhan |

ਚਵੀ ਚਾਵਡੀਯੰ ਉਡੀ ਗ੍ਰਿੱਧ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਧੰ ॥੨੮॥

chavee chaavaddeeyan uddee gradh bradhan |28|

The Birs (heroic spirits), Baitals (ghosts) and Siddhs (adepts) laughed, the witches were talking and huge kites were flying (for meat).28.

ਹਰੀਚੰਦ ਕੋਪੇ ਕਮਾਣੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥

hareechand kope kamaanan sanbhaaran |

ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਬਾਜੀਯੰ ਤਾਣ ਬਾਣੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥

pratham baajeeyan taan baanan prahaaran |

Hari Chand, filled with rage, drew out his bow, he aimed and shot his arrow, which struck my horse.

ਦੁਤੀਯ ਤਾਕ ਕੈ ਤੀਰ ਮੋ ਕੌ ਚਲਾਯੰ ॥

duteey taak kai teer mo kau chalaayan |

ਰਖਿਓ ਦਈਵ ਮੈ ਕਾਨ ਛ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਸਿਧਾਯੰ ॥੨੯॥

rakhio deev mai kaan chhvai kai sidhaayan |29|

He aimed and shot the second arrow towards me, the Lord protected me, his arrow only grazed my ear. 29.

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਯ ਬਾਣ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਪੇਟੀ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥

triteey baan maariyo su pettee majhaaran |

ਬਿਧਿਅੰ ਚਿਲਕਤੰ ਦੁਆਲ ਪਾਰੰ ਪਧਾਰੰ ॥

bidhian chilakatan duaal paaran padhaaran |

His third arrow penetrated deep into the buckle of my waist-belt.

ਚੁਭੀ ਚਿੰਚ ਚਰਮੰ ਕਛੂ ਘਾਇ ਨ ਆਯੰ ॥

chubhee chinch charaman kachhoo ghaae na aayan |

ਕਲੰ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਜਾਨ ਦਾਸੰ ਬਚਾਯੰ ॥੩੦॥

kalan kevalan jaan daasan bachaayan |30|

Its edge touched the body, but did not caused a wound, the Lord saved his servent.30.

ਜਬੈ ਬਾਣ ਲਾਗ︀ਯੋ ॥

ਤਬੈ ਰੋਸ ਜਾਗ︀ਯੋ ॥

tabai ros jaagayo |

When the edge of the arrow touched my body, it kindled my resentment.

ਕਰੰ ਲੈ ਕਮਾਣੰ ॥

karan lai kamaanan |

ਹਨੰ ਬਾਣ ਤਾਣੰ ॥੩੧॥

hanan baan taanan |31|

I took the bow in my hand and aimed and shot the arrow.31.

ਸਬੈ ਬੀਰ ਧਾਏ ॥

sabai beer dhaae |

ਸਰੋਘੰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥

saroghan chalaae |

All the warriors fled, when a volley of arrow was showered.

ਤਬੈ ਤਾਕਿ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

tabai taak baanan |

ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਏਕ ਜੁਆਣੰ ॥੩੨॥

hanayo ek juaanan |32|

Then I aimed the arrow on a warrior and killed him.32.

ਹਰੀਚੰਦ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

hareechand maare |

ਸੁ ਜੋਧਾ ਲਤਾਰੇ ॥

su jodhaa lataare |

Hari Chand was killed and his brave soldiers were trampled.

ਸੁ ਕਾਰੋੜਰਾਯੰ ॥

su kaarorraraayan |

ਵਹੈ ਕਾਲ ਘਾਯੰ ॥੩੩॥

vahai kaal ghaayan |33|

The chief of Kot Lehar was seized by death.33.

ਰਣੰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਭਾਗੇ ॥

ਸਬੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਪਾਗੇ ॥

sabai traas paage |

The hill-men fled from the battlefield, all were filled with fear.

ਭਈ ਜੀਤ ਮੇਰੀ ॥

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਾਲ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੩੪॥

kripaa kaal keree |34|

I gained victory through the favour of the Eternal Lord (KAL).34.

ਰਣੰ ਜੀਤਿ ਆਏ ॥

ranan jeet aae |

ਜਯੰ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਏ ॥

jayan geet gaae |

We returned after victory and sang songs of triumph.

ਧਨੰ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖੇ ॥

dhanan dhaar barakhe |

ਸਬੈ ਸੂਰ ਹਰਖੇ ॥੩੫॥

sabai soor harakhe |35|

I showered wealth on the warriors, who were full of rejoicings.35.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

raam naam man bedhiaa avar ki karee veechaar |

My mind is pierced through by the Name of the Lord. What else should I contemplate?

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

sabad surat sukh aoopajai prabh raatau sukh saar |

Focusing your awareness on the Shabad, happiness wells up. Attuned to God, the most excellent peace is found.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

jiau bhaavai tiau raakh toon mai har naam adhaar |1|

As it pleases You, please save me, Lord. The Name of the Lord is my Support. ||1||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

man re saachee khasam rajaae |

O mind, the Will of our Lord and Master is true.

ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jin tan man saaj seegaariaa tis setee liv laae |1| rahaau |

Focus your love upon the One who created and adorned your body and mind. ||1||Pause||

ਤਨੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਮੀਐ ਇਕ ਰਤੀ ਤੋਲਿ ਕਟਾਇ ॥

tan baisantar homeeai ik ratee tol kattaae |

If I cut my body into pieces, and burn them in the fire,

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਧਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥

tan man samadhaa je karee anadin agan jalaae |

and if I make my body and mind into firewood, and night and day burn them in the fire,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਪੁਜਈ ਜੇ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

har naamai tul na pujee je lakh kottee karam kamaae |2|

and if I perform hundreds of thousands and millions of religious rituals-still, all these are not equal to the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਅਰਧ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਟਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਵਤੁ ਧਰਾਇ ॥

aradh sareer kattaaeeai sir karavat dharaae |

If my body were cut in half, if a saw was put to my head,

ਤਨੁ ਹੈਮੰਚਲਿ ਗਾਲੀਐ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

tan haimanchal gaaleeai bhee man te rog na jaae |

and if my body were frozen in the Himalayas-even then, my mind would not be free of disease.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਪੁਜਈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

har naamai tul na pujee sabh dditthee tthok vajaae |3|

None of these are equal to the Name of the Lord. I have seen and tried and tested them all. ||3||

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੇ ਕੋਟ ਦਤੁ ਕਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

kanchan ke kott dat karee bahu haivar gaivar daan |

If I made a donation of castles of gold, and gave lots of fine horses and wondrous elephants in charity,

ਭੂਮਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਗਊਆ ਘਣੀ ਭੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਰਬੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥

bhoom daan gaooaa ghanee bhee antar garab gumaan |

and if I made donations of land and cows-even then, pride and ego would still be within me.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥

raam naam man bedhiaa gur deea sach daan |4|

The Name of the Lord has pierced my mind; the Guru has given me this true gift. ||4||

ਮਨਹਠ ਬੁਧੀ ਕੇਤੀਆ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

manahatth budhee keteea kete bed beechaar |

There are so many stubborn-minded intelligent people, and so many who contemplate the Vedas.

ਕੇਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

kete bandhan jeea ke guramukh mokh duaar |

There are so many entanglements for the soul. Only as Gurmukh do we find the Gate of Liberation.

ਸਚਹੁ ਓਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਉਪਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

sachahu orai sabh ko upar sach aachaar |5|

Truth is higher than everything; but higher still is truthful living. ||5||

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਊਚਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਨੀਚੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

sabh ko aoochaa aakheeai neech na deesai koe |

Call everyone exalted; no one seems lowly.

ਇਕਨੈ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਜਿਐ ਇਕੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥

eikanai bhaandde saajiai ik chaanan tihu loe |

The One Lord has fashioned the vessels, and His One Light pervades the three worlds.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਧੁਰਿ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥

karam milai sach paaeeai dhur bakhas na mettai koe |6|

Receiving His Grace, we obtain Truth. No one can erase His Primal Blessing. ||6||

ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥

saadh milai saadhoo janai santokh vasai gur bhaae |

When one Holy person meets another Holy person, they abide in contentment, through the Love of the Guru.

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

akath kathaa veechaareeai je satigur maeh samaae |

They contemplate the Unspoken Speech, merging in absorption in the True Guru.

ਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

pee amrit santokhiaa darageh paidhaa jaae |7|

Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, they are contented; they go to the Court of the Lord in robes of honor. ||7||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜੈ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

ghatt ghatt vaajai kinguree anadin sabad subhaae |

In each and every heart the Music of the Lord's Flute vibrates, night and day, with sublime love for the Shabad.

ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥

virale kau sojhee pee guramukh man samajhaae |

Only those few who become Gurmukh understand this by instructing their minds.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਛੂਟੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੧੪॥

naanak naam na veesarai chhoottai sabad kamaae |8|14|

O Nanak, do not forget the Naam. Practicing the Shabad you shall be saved. ||8||14||

ਚਿਤੇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਧਉਲਹਰ ਬਗੇ ਬੰਕ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

chite diseh dhaulahar bage bank duaar |

There are painted mansions to behold, white-washed, with beautiful doors;

ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਖੁਸੀ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

kar man khusee usaariaa doojai het piaar |

they were constructed to give pleasure to the mind, but this is only for the sake of the love of duality.

ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਤਨੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

andar khaalee prem bin dteh dteree tan chhaar |1|

The inner being is empty without love. The body shall crumble into a heap of ashes. ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

bhaaee re tan dhan saath na hoe |

O Siblings of Destiny, this body and wealth shall not go along with you.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

raam naam dhan niramalo gur daat kare prabh soe |1| rahaau |

The Lord's Name is the pure wealth; through the Guru, God bestows this gift. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਜੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

raam naam dhan niramalo je devai devanahaar |

The Lord's Name is the pure wealth; it is given only by the Giver.

ਆਗੈ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

aagai poochh na hovee jis belee gur karataar |

One who has the Guru, the Creator, as his Friend, shall not be questioned hereafter.

ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

aap chhaddaae chhutteeai aape bakhasanahaar |2|

He Himself delivers those who are delivered. He Himself is the Forgiver. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਧੀਆ ਪੂਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥

manamukh jaanai aapane dheea poot sanjog |

The self-willed manmukh looks upon his daughters, sons and relatives as his own.

ਨਾਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਾਸੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਲੇ ਹਰਖੁ ਸੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

naaree dekh vigaaseeeh naale harakh su sog |

Gazing upon his wife, he is pleased. But along with happiness, they bring grief.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਲੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗੁ ॥੩॥

guramukh sabad rangaavale ahinis har ras bhog |3|

The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Word of the Shabad. Day and night, they enjoy the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||3||

ਚਿਤੁ ਚਲੈ ਵਿਤੁ ਜਾਵਣੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਡੋਲਿ ਡੋਲਾਇ ॥

chit chalai vit jaavano saakat ddol ddolaae |

The consciousness of the wicked, faithless cynics wanders around in search of transitory wealth, unstable and distracted.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਢੂੰਢਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਸੁਥਾਇ ॥

baahar dtoondt vigucheeai ghar meh vasat suthaae |

Searching outside of themselves, they are ruined; the object of their search is in that sacred place within the home of the heart.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥

manamukh haumai kar musee guramukh palai paae |4|

The self-willed manmukhs, in their ego, miss it; the Gurmukhs receive it in their laps. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿਆਰਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥

saakat niraguniaariaa aapanaa mool pachhaan |

You worthless, faithless cynic-recognize your own origin!

ਰਕਤੁ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੋ ਅਗਨੀ ਪਾਸਿ ਪਿਰਾਣੁ ॥

rakat bind kaa ihu tano aganee paas piraan |

This body is made of blood and semen. It shall be consigned to the fire in the end.

ਪਵਣੈ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੫॥

pavanai kai vas dehuree masatak sach neesaan |5|

The body is under the power of the breath, according to the True Sign inscribed upon your forehead. ||5||

ਬਹੁਤਾ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮੁਆ ਨ ਲੋੜੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

bahutaa jeevan mangeeai muaa na lorrai koe |

Everyone begs for a long life-no one wishes to die.

ਸੁਖ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥

sukh jeevan tis aakheeai jis guramukh vasiaa soe |

A life of peace and comfort comes to that Gurmukh, within whom God dwells.

ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਗਣੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥

naam vihoone kiaa ganee jis har gur daras na hoe |6|

Without the Naam, what good those who do not have the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of the Lord and Guru? ||6||

ਜਿਉ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਜਬ ਲਗਿ ਨਿਦ੍ਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

jiau supanai nis bhuleeai jab lag nidraa hoe |

In their dreams at night, people wander around as long as they sleep;

ਇਉ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੋਇ ॥

eiau sarapan kai vas jeearraa antar haumai doe |

just so, they are under the power of the snake Maya, as long as their hearts are filled with ego and duality.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਲੋਇ ॥੭॥

guramat hoe veechaareeai supanaa ihu jag loe |7|

Through the Guru's Teachings, they come to understand and see that this world is just a dream. ||7||

ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਦੂਧੈ ਮਾਇ ॥

agan marai jal paaeeai jiau baarik doodhai maae |

As thirst is quenched with water, and the baby is satisfied with mother's milk,

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਕਮਲ ਸੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਮੀਨੁ ਮਰਾਇ ॥

bin jal kamal su naa theeai bin jal meen maraae |

and as the lotus does not exist without water, and as the fish dies without water

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੀਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੮॥੧੫॥

naanak guramukh har ras milai jeevaa har gun gaae |8|15|

-O Nanak, so does the Gurmukh live, receiving the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||8||15||
