ਹਰੀਚੰਦ ਕ੍ਰੁੱਧੰ ॥

Hari Chand (Handooria) in great fury, killed significant heroes.

ਭਲੇ ਬਾਣ ਬਾਹੇ ॥

ਬਡੇ ਸੈਨ ਗਾਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

badde sain gaahe |13|

He shot skillfully a volley of arrows and killed a lot of forces.13.

ਮਹਾ ਲੋਹ ਮਾਚੇ ॥

mahaa loh maache |

He was absorbed in dreadful feat of arms.

ਹਨੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

ਲਿਟੇ ਭੂਪ ਭਾਰੀ ॥੧੪॥

Armed warriors were being killed and great kings were falling on the ground.14.

ਤਬੈ ਜੀਤਮੱਲੰ ॥

tabai jeetamalan |

ਹਰੀਚੰਦ ਭੱਲੰ ॥

hareechand bhalan |

ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਐਂਚ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥

hridai ainch maario |

ਸੁ ਖੇਤੰ ਉਤਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੫॥

Then Jit Mal aimed and struck Hari Chand down to the ground with his spear.15.

ਲਗੇ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

ਰਿਸਿਯੋ ਤੇਜਿ ਮਾਣੰ ॥

risiyo tej maanan |

The warriors struck with arrows became red with blood.

ਸਮੁਹ ਬਾਜ ਡਾਰੇ ॥

samuh baaj ddaare |

ਸੁਵਰਗੰ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੬॥

Their horses feel and they left for heavens.16.

BHUJANG PRAYAAAT STANZA

ਖੁਲੈ ਖਾਨ ਖੂਨੀ ਖੁਰਾਸਾਨ ਖੱਗੰ ॥

khulai khaan khoonee khuraasaan khagan |

ਪਰੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੰ ਉਠੀ ਝਾਲ ਅੱਗੰ ॥

paree sasatr dhaaran utthee jhaal agan |

In the hands of blood-thirsty Khans, there were the Khorasan swords, whose sharp edges flashed like fire.

ਭਈ ਤੀਰ ਭੀਰੰ ਕਮਾਣੰ ਕੱੜਕੇ ॥

bhee teer bheeran kamaanan karrake |

ਗਿਰੇ ਬਾਜ ਤਾਜੀ ਲਗੇ ਧੀਰ ਧੱਕੇ ॥੧੭॥

gire baaj taajee lage dheer dhake |17|

The bows shooing out volleys of arrows twanged, the splendid horses fell because of the heavy blows.17.

ਬਜੀ ਭੇਰਿ ਭੁੰਕਾਰ ਧੁੱਕੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥

bajee bher bhunkaar dhuke nagaare |

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਬੰਕੇ ਬਕਾਰੇ ॥

duhoon or te beer banke bakaare |

The trumpets sounded and the musical pipes were played, the brave warriors thundered from both sides.

ਕਰੇ ਬਾਹੁ ਆਘਾਤ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥

kare baahu aaghaat sasatran prahaaran |

ਡਕੀ ਡਾਕਣੀ ਚਾਂਵਡੀ ਚੀਤਕਾਰੰ ॥੧੮॥

ddakee ddaakanee chaanvaddee cheetakaaran |18|

And with their strong arms struck (the enemy), the witches drank blood to their fill and produced dreadful sounds.18.

ਕਹਾ ਲਗੇ ਬਰਨਨ ਕਰੋਂ ਮਚਿਯੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

kahaa lage baranan karon machiyo judh apaar |

How far should I describe the great battle?

ਜੇ ਲੁੱਝੇ ਜੁੱਝੇ ਸਬੈ ਭੱਜੇ ਸੂਰ ਹਜਾਰ ॥੧੯॥

je lujhe jujhe sabai bhaje soor hajaar |19|

Those fought attained martyrdom, thousand fled away. 19.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਭਜਿਯੋ ਸਾਹ ਪਹਾੜਤਾਜੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਾਯੰ ॥

bhajiyo saah pahaarrataajee tripaayan |

ਚਲਿਯੋ ਬੀਰੀਯਾ ਤੀਰੀਯਾ ਨ ਚਲਾਯੰ ॥

chaliyo beereeyaa teereeyaa na chalaayan |

The hill-chief spurred his horse and fled, the warriors went away without discharging their arrows.

ਜਸੋ ਡੱਢਵਾਲੰ ਮਧੁੱਕਰ ਸੁ ਸਾਹੰ ॥

jaso ddadtavaalan madhakar su saahan |

ਭਜੇ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਪਾਹੰ ॥੨੦॥

bhaje sang lai ke su saaree sipaahan |20|

The chiefs of Jaswal and Dadhwal, who were fighting (in the field), left with all their soldiers.20.

ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਚੋਪਿਯੋ ਚੰਦ ਗਾਜੀ ਚੰਦੇਲੰ ॥

chakrit chopiyo chand gaajee chandelan |

ਹਠੀ ਹਰੀਚੰਦੰ ਗਹੇ ਹਾਥ ਸੇਲੰ ॥

hatthee hareechandan gahe haath selan |

The Raja of Chandel was perplexed, when the tenacious Hari Chand caught hold of the spear in his hand.

ਕਰਿਓ ਸੁਆਮਿ ਧਰਮੰ ਮਹਾ ਰੋਸ ਰੁੱਝਿਯੰ ॥

kario suaam dharaman mahaa ros rujhiyan |

He was filled with great fury, fulfilling his duty as a general

ਗਿਰਿਓ ਟੂਕ ਟੂਕ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਇਸੋ ਸੂਰ ਜੁੱਝਿਯੰ ॥੨੧॥

girio ttook ttook hvai iso soor jujhiyan |21|

Those who came in front of him, were cut into pieces nad fell (in the field).21.

ਤਹਾ ਖਾਨ ਨੈਜਾਬਤੋ ਆਨ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥

tahaa khaan naijaabato aan kai kai |

ਹਨਿਓ ਸਾਹ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਕੌ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥

hanio saah sangraam kau sasatr lai kai |

Then Najabat Khan came forward and struck Sango Shah with his weapons.

ਕਿਤੈ ਖਾਨ ਬਾਨੀਨ ਹੂੰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰੇ ॥

kitai khaan baaneen hoon asatr jhaare |

ਸਹੀ ਸਾਹ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਸੁਰਗੰ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੨੨॥

sahee saah sangraam suragan sidhaare |22|

Several skillful Khans fell on him with their arms and sent Shah Sangram to heaven.22.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਘਰ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

trisanaa maaeaa mohanee sut bandhap ghar naar |

The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses.

ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥

dhan joban jag tthagiaa lab lobh ahankaar |

The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism.

ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

moh tthgaulee hau muee saa varatai sansaar |1|

The drug of emotional attachment has destroyed me, as it has destroyed the whole world. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

mere preetamaa mai tujh bin avar na koe |

O my Beloved, I have no one except You.

ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

mai tujh bin avar na bhaavee toon bhaaveh sukh hoe |1| rahaau |

Without You, nothing else pleases me. Loving You, I am at peace. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥

naam saalaahee rang siau gur kai sabad santokh |

I sing the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with love; I am content with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਵੇਖੁ ॥

jo deesai so chalasee koorraa mohu na vekh |

Whatever is seen shall pass away. So do not be attached to this false show.

ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਦਾ ਸਾਥੁ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੨॥

vaatt vattaaoo aaeaa nit chaladaa saath dekh |2|

Like a traveller in his travels, you have come. Behold the caravan leaving each day. ||2||

ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

aakhan aakheh ketarre gur bin boojh na hoe |

Many preach sermons, but without the Guru, understanding is not obtained.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਪੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

naam vaddaaee je milai sach rapai pat hoe |

If someone receives the Glory of the Naam, he is attuned to truth and blessed with honor.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥

jo tudh bhaaveh se bhale khottaa kharaa na koe |3|

Those who are pleasing to You are good; no one is counterfeit or genuine. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

gur saranaaee chhutteeai manamukh khottee raas |

In the Guru's Sanctuary we are saved. The assets of the self-willed manmukhs are false.

ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿ ॥

asatt dhaat paatisaah kee gharreeai sabad vigaas |

The eight metals of the King are made into coins by the Word of His Shabad.

ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥

aape parakhe paarakhoo pavai khajaanai raas |4|

The Assayer Himself assays them, and He places the genuine ones in His Treasury. ||4||

ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ॥

teree keemat naa pavai sabh dditthee tthok vajaae |

Your Value cannot be appraised; I have seen and tested everything.

ਕਹਣੈ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

kahanai haath na labhee sach ttikai pat paae |

By speaking, His Depth cannot be found. Abiding in truth, honor is obtained.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

guramat toon saalaahanaa hor keemat kehan na jaae |5|

Through the Guru's Teachings, I praise You; otherwise, I cannot describe Your Value. ||5||

ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਦੁ ॥

jit tan naam na bhaavee tith tan haumai vaad |

That body which does not appreciate the Naam-that body is infested with egotism and conflict.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥

gur bin giaan na paaeeai bikhiaa doojaa saad |

Without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained; other tastes are poison.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥

bin gun kaam na aavee maaeaa feekaa saad |6|

Without virtue, nothing is of any use. The taste of Maya is bland and insipid. ||6||

ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਇ ॥

aasaa andar jamiaa aasaa ras kas khaae |

Through desire, people are cast into the womb and reborn. Through desire, they taste the sweet and sour flavors.

ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਮੁਹੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

aasaa bandh chalaaeeai muhe muhi chottaa khaae |

Bound by desire, they are led on, beaten and struck on their faces and mouths.

ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਧਾ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੭॥

avagan badhaa maareeai chhoottai guramat naae |7|

Bound and gagged and assaulted by evil, they are released only through the Name, through the Guru's Teachings. ||7||

ਸਰਬੇ ਥਾਈ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ॥

sarabe thaaee ek toon jiau bhaavai tiau raakh |

In all places, You are the One and Only. As it pleases You, Lord, please save and protect me!

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਲੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਖੁ ॥

guramat saachaa man vasai naam bhalo pat saakh |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the True One abides within the mind. The Companionship of the Naam brings the most excellent honor.

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਖੁ ॥੮॥

haumai rog gavaaeeai sabad sachai sach bhaakh |8|

Eradicate the disease of egotism, and chant the True Shabad, the Word of the True Lord. ||8||

ਆਕਾਸੀ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

aakaasee paataal toon tribhavan rahiaa samaae |

You are pervading throughout the Akaashic Ethers, the nether regions and the three worlds.

ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਉ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

aape bhagatee bhaau toon aape mileh milaae |

You Yourself are bhakti, loving devotional worship. You Yourself unite us in Union with Yourself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੯॥੧੩॥

naanak naam na veesarai jiau bhaavai tivai rajaae |9|13|

O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam! As is Your Pleasure, so is Your Will. ||9||13||
