ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਭਏ ਜਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਭੂਮਿ ਆਨਿ ਨਰੇਸ ॥
sresatt sresatt bhe jite ih bhoom aan nares |
ਤਉਨ ਤਉਨ ਉਚਾਰਹੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਸੇਸ ॥
taun taun uchaaraho tumare prasaad ases |
All the superb kings who had ruled over the earth, O Lord! With thy Grace, I describe at of them
ਭਰਥ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਭੇ ਭਏ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਗਰ ਰਾਜ ॥
bharath raaj biteet bhe bhe raajaa sagar raaj |
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਤਪਸਾ ਕਰੀ ਲੀਅ ਲਛ ਸੁਤ ਉਪਰਾਜਿ ॥੬੩॥
rudr kee tapasaa karee leea lachh sut uparaaj |63|
There was king sagar after Bharat, who meditated on Rudra and performed austerities, he obtained the boon of one lakh sons.63.
ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬਕ੍ਰ ਧੁਜਾ ਗਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਬ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥
chakr bakr dhujaa gadaa bhrit sarab raaj kumaar |
ਲਛ ਰੂਪ ਧਰੇ ਮਨੋ ਜਗਿ ਆਨਿ ਮੈਨ ਸੁ ਧਾਰ ॥
lachh roop dhare mano jag aan main su dhaar |
They were princes of discus, banners and maces and it seemed that the god of love had manifested himself in lakhs of forms
ਬੇਖ ਬੇਖ ਬਨੇ ਨਰੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਜੀਤਿ ਦੇਸ ਅਸੇਸ ॥
bekh bekh bane naresvar jeet des ases |
ਦਾਸ ਭਾਵ ਸਬੈ ਧਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਜਤ੍ਰ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਨਰੇਸ ॥੬੪॥
daas bhaav sabai dhare man jatr tatr nares |64|
They conquered various countries and became kings considering them sovereigns became their servants.64.
ਬਾਜ ਮੇਧ ਕਰੈ ਲਗੈ ਹਯਸਾਲਿ ਤੇ ਹਯ ਚੀਨਿ ॥
baaj medh karai lagai hayasaal te hay cheen |
They selected a fine horse from their stable and decided to perform Ashvamedha Yajna
ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਅਮੋਲ ਰਿਤੁਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
bol bol amol rituj mantr mitr prabeen |
They invited the ministers, friends and Brahmins
ਸੰਗ ਦੀਨ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੈਨ ਬ੍ਰਯੂਹ ਬ੍ਰਯੂਹ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
sang deen samooh sain brayooh brayooh banaae |
ਜਤ੍ਰ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਲਗੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਅਤ੍ਰ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥੬੫॥
jatr tatr firai lage sir atr patr firaae |65|
After that they gave groups of their forces to their ministers, who moved here and there, swinging the canopies over their heada.65.
ਜੈਤਪਤ੍ਰ ਲਹ︀ਯੋ ਜਹਾ ਤਹ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਭੇ ਸਭ ਚੂਰ ॥
jaitapatr lehayo jahaa teh satru bhe sabh choor |
They obtained letter of victory from all the places and all their enemies were smashed
ਛੋਰਿ ਛੋਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨਰੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੂਰ ॥
chhor chhor bhaje naresvar chhaadd sasatr karoor |
All the such kings ran away, forsaking their weapons
ਡਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਸਨਾਹਿ ਸੂਰ ਤ੍ਰੀਆਨ ਭੇਸ ਸੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
ddaar ddaar sanaeh soor treeaan bhes su dhaar |
ਭਾਜਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਜਹਾ ਤਹ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ॥੬੬॥
bhaaj bhaaj chale jahaa teh putr mitr bisaar |66|
These warriors, putting off their armours, assuming the guise of women and forgetting their sons and friends, ran away here and there.66.
ਗਾਜਿ ਗਾਜਿ ਗਜੇ ਗਦਾਧਰਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਸੁ ਭੀਰ ॥
gaaj gaaj gaje gadaadhar bhaaj bhaaj su bheer |
The mace-wielders thundered and the cowards fled away
ਸਾਜ ਬਾਜ ਤਜੈ ਭਜੈ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ਬੀਰ ਸੁਧੀਰ ॥
saaj baaj tajai bhajai bisanbhaar beer sudheer |
Many warriors leaving their paraphernalia ran away
ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਗਜੇ ਜਹਾ ਤਹ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਚਾਇ ॥
soorabeer gaje jahaa teh asatr sasatr nachaae |
ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਏ ਸੁ ਦੇਸਨ ਜੈਤਪਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥੬੭॥
jeet jeet le su desan jaitapatr firaae |67|
Wherever there brave warriors thundered, activating their arms and weapons, they obtained victory and got the letter of conquest.67.
ਜੀਤਿ ਪੂਰਬ ਪਛਿਮੈ ਅਰੁ ਲੀਨ ਦਛਨਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jeet poorab pachhimai ar leen dachhan jaae |
ਤਾਕਿ ਬਾਜ ਚਲ︀ਯੋ ਤਹਾ ਜਹ ਬੈਠਿ ਥੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
taak baaj chalayo tahaa jeh baitth the mun raae |
They conquered the East, West and south and now the horse reached there where the grate sage Kapila was sitting
ਧ੍ਰਯਾਨ ਮਧਿ ਹੁਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਸਾਜ ਬਾਜ ਨ ਦੇਖਿ ॥
dhrayaan madh hute mahaa mun saaj baaj na dekh |
ਪ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਛ ਖਰੋ ਭਯੋ ਰਿਖਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਗੋਰਖ ਭੇਖ ॥੬੮॥
prisatt pachh kharo bhayo rikh jaan gorakh bhekh |68|
He was absorbed in meditation, he did not see the home, which seeing him in the guise of Gorakh, stood behind him.68.
ਚਉਕ ਚਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਸਬੈ ਜਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਨੈਨ ਨ ਬਾਜ ॥
chauk chit rahe sabai jab dekh nain na baaj |
When all the warriors did not see the horse, they were wonderstruks
ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਥਕੇ ਸਬੈ ਦਿਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਸਲਾਜ ॥
khoj khoj thake sabai dis chaar chaar salaaj |
And in their shame, began to search for the horse in all the four direction
ਜਾਨਿ ਪਯਾਰ ਗਯੋ ਤੁਰੰਗਮ ਕੀਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
jaan payaar gayo turangam keen chit bichaar |
ਸਗਰ ਖਾਤ ਖੁਦੈ ਲਗੇ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਬੀਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੬੯॥
sagar khaat khudai lage ranadheer beer apaar |69|
Thinking this that the horse had gone to the nether-world, they tried to enter that world by digging a comprehensive pit.69.
ਖੋਦਿ ਖੋਦਿ ਅਖੋਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਜੋਧ ਅਨੰਤ ॥
khod khod akhod prithavee krodh jodh anant |
ਭਛਿ ਭਛਿ ਗਏ ਸਬੈ ਮੁਖ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਾ ਦੁਤਿ ਵੰਤ ॥
bhachh bhachh ge sabai mukh mritakaa dut vant |
The furious warriors began to dig the earth and the brightness of their faces became earth like
ਸਗਰ ਖਾਤ ਖੁਦੈ ਲਗੇ ਦਿਸ ਖੋਦ ਦਛਨ ਸਰਬ ॥
sagar khaat khudai lage dis khod dachhan sarab |
ਜੀਤਿ ਪੂਰਬ ਕੋ ਚਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਠਾਨ ਕੈ ਜੀਅ ਗਰਬ ॥੭੦॥
jeet poorab ko chale at tthaan kai jeea garab |70|
In this way when they made the whole of the South an abyss, then they conquering it advanced towards the East.70.
ਖੋਦ ਦਛਨ ਕੀ ਦਿਸਾ ਪੁਨਿ ਖੋਦ ਪੂਰਬ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥
khod dachhan kee disaa pun khod poorab disaan |
ਤਾਕਿ ਪਛਮ ਕੋ ਚਲੇ ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
taak pachham ko chale das chaar chaar nidhaan |
After digging the south and the east, those warriors, who were experts in all the sciences, fell upon the west
ਪੈਠਿ ਉਤਰ ਦਿਸਾ ਜਬੈ ਖੋਦੈ ਲਗੇ ਸਭ ਠਉਰ ॥
paitth utar disaa jabai khodai lage sabh tthaur |
ਅਉਰ ਅਉਰ ਠਟੈ ਪਸੂ ਕਲਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਠਾਟੀ ਅਉਰ ॥੭੧॥
aaur aaur tthattai pasoo kal kaal tthaattee aaur |71|
When, advancing towards the north, they began to dig the earth, they were thinking sometime else in their minds, but the Lord had thought otherwise.71.
ਖੋਦਿ ਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਪੂਜਿ ਅਰਧ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥
khod kai bahu bhaat prithavee pooj aradh disaan |
ਅੰਤਿ ਭੇਦ ਬਿਲੋਕੀਆ ਮੁਨਿ ਬੈਠਿ ਸੰਜੁਤ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ॥
ant bhed bilokeea mun baitth sanjut dhayaan |
While digging the earth in various ways, scanned all the directions, they ultimately saw the sage Kapila in medication
ਪ੍ਰਿਸਟ ਪਾਛ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਬਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
prisatt paachh bilok baaj samaaj roop anoop |
ਲਾਤ ਭੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਗਰਬ ਕੈ ਸੁਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੭੨॥
laat bhe mun maario at garab kai sut bhoop |72|
They saw the horse behind him and those princes in their pride, hit the sage with the leg.72.
ਧ੍ਰਯਾਨ ਛੂਟ ਤਬੈ ਮੁਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਮਾਲ ਕਰਾਲ ॥
dhrayaan chhoott tabai munee drig jvaal maal karaal |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਉਠੀ ਜਨੁ ਸਿੰਧ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿਸਾਲ ॥
bhaat bhaatin so utthee jan sindh agan bisaal |
The medication of the sage was broken and from within him arose various kinds of huge fires
ਭਸਮਿ ਭੂਤ ਭਏ ਸਬੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਲਛ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਨੈਨ ॥
bhasam bhoot bhe sabe nrip lachh putr su nain |
ਬਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਸੁ ਸੰਪਦਾ ਜੁਤ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਸੈਨ ॥੭੩॥
baaj raaj su sanpadaa jut asatr sasatr su sain |73|
In that fire, one-lakh sons of the king along with their horses, arms, weapons and forces were reduced to ashes.73.

ਸੂਖ ਮੰਗਲ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
sookh mangal kaliaan sehaj dhun prabh ke charan nihaariaa |
I have been blessed with peace, pleasure, bliss, and the celestial sound current, gazing upon the feet of God.
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੈ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤਾਪੁ ਉਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
raakhanahaarai raakhio baarik satigur taap utaariaa |1|
The Savior has saved His child, and the True Guru has cured his fever. ||1||
ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
aubare satigur kee saranaaee |
I have been saved, in the True Guru's Sanctuary;
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kee sev na birathee jaaee | rahaau |
service to Him does not go in vain. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
ghar meh sookh baahar fun sookhaa prabh apune bhe deaalaa |
There is peace within the home of one's heart, and there is peace outside as well, when God becomes kind and compassionate.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਊ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੪੦॥
naanak bighan na laagai koaoo meraa prabh hoaa kirapaalaa |2|12|40|
O Nanak, no obstacles block my way; my God has become gracious and merciful to me. ||2||12||40||

saadhoo sang bheaa man udam naam ratan jas gaaee |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my mind became excited, and I sang the Praises of the jewel of the Naam.
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
mitt gee chintaa simar anantaa saagar tariaa bhaaee |1|
My anxiety was dispelled, meditating in remembrance on the Infinite Lord; I have crossed over the world ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
hiradai har ke charan vasaaee |
I enshrine the Lord's Feet within my heart.
ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਰੋਗਾ ਘਾਣਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukh paaeaa sehaj dhun upajee rogaa ghaan mittaaee | rahaau |
I have found peace, and the celestial sound current resounds within me; countless diseases have been eradicated. ||Pause||
ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
kiaa gun tere aakh vakhaanaa keemat kehan na jaaee |
Which of Your Glorious Virtues can I speak and describe? Your worth cannot be estimated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਭਏ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੪੧॥
naanak bhagat bhe abinaasee apunaa prabh bheaa sahaaee |2|13|41|
O Nanak, the Lord's devotees become imperishable and immortal; their God becomes their friend and support. ||2||13||41||

ਗਏ ਕਲੇਸ ਰੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
ge kales rog sabh naase prabh apunai kirapaa dhaaree |
My sufferings have come to an end, and all diseases have been eradicated.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
aatth pehar aaraadhahu suaamee pooran ghaal hamaaree |1|
God has showered me with His Grace. Twenty-four hours a day, I worship and adore my Lord and Master; my efforts have come to fruition. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੂ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
har jeeo too sukh sanpat raas |
O Dear Lord, You are my peace, wealth and capital.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakh laihu bhaaee mere kau prabh aagai aradaas | rahaau |
Please, save me, O my Beloved! I offer this prayer to my God. ||Pause||
ਜੋ ਮਾਗਉ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਵਉ ਅਪਨੇ ਖਸਮ ਭਰੋਸਾ ॥
jo maagau soee soee paavau apane khasam bharosaa |
Whatever I ask for, I receive; I have total faith in my Master.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੪੨॥
kahu naanak gur pooraa bhettio mittio sagal andesaa |2|14|42|
Says Nanak, I have met with the Perfect Guru, and all my fears have been dispelled. ||2||14||42||

simar simar gur satigur apanaa sagalaa dookh mittaaeaa |
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on my Guru, the True Guru, all pains have been eradicated.
ਤਾਪ ਰੋਗ ਗਏ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨ ਇਛੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
taap rog ge gur bachanee man ichhe fal paaeaa |1|
The fever and the disease are gone, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, and I have obtained the fruits of my mind's desires. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
meraa gur pooraa sukhadaataa |
My Perfect Guru is the Giver of peace.
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karan kaaran samarath suaamee pooran purakh bidhaataa | rahaau |
He is the Doer, the Cause of causes, the Almighty Lord and Master, the Perfect Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny. ||Pause||
ਅਨੰਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
anand binod mangal gun gaavahu gur naanak bhe deaalaa |
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord in bliss, joy and ecstasy; Guru Nanak has become kind and compassionate.
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ਭਏ ਜਗ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹੋਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੪੩॥
jai jai kaar bhe jag bheetar hoaa paarabraham rakhavaalaa |2|15|43|
Shouts of cheers and congratulations ring out all over the world; the Supreme Lord God has become my Savior and Protector. ||2||15||43||

ਹਮਰੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਗਣੀਆ ਕਾਈ ਅਪਣਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥
hamaree ganat na ganeea kaaee apanaa birad pachhaan |
He did not take my accounts into account; such is His forgiving nature.
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
haath dee raakhe kar apune sadaa sadaa rang maan |1|
He gave me His hand, and saved me and made me His own; forever and ever, I enjoy His Love. ||1||
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਣ ॥
saachaa saahib sad miharavaan |
The True Lord and Master is forever merciful and forgiving.
ਬੰਧੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹੋਈ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bandh paaeaa merai satigur poorai hoee sarab kaliaan | rahaau |
My Perfect Guru has bound me to Him, and now, I am in absolute ecstasy. ||Pause||
ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਣੁ ॥
jeeo paae pindd jin saajiaa ditaa painan khaan |
The One who fashioned the body and placed the soul within, who gives you clothing and nourishment

apane daas kee aap paij raakhee naanak sad kurabaan |2|16|44|
