ਜਿਣੇ ਗਖਰੀ ਪਖਰੀ ਖਗਧਾਰੀ ॥
jine gakharee pakharee khagadhaaree |
ਹਣੇ ਪਖਰੀ ਭਖਰੀ ਔ ਕੰਧਾਰੀ ॥
hane pakharee bhakharee aau kandhaaree |
ਗੁਰਜਿਸਤਾਨ ਗਾਜੀ ਰਜੀ ਰੋਹਿ ਰੂਮੀ ॥
gurajisataan gaajee rajee rohi roomee |
ਹਣੇ ਸੂਰ ਬੰਕੇ ਗਿਰੇ ਝੂਮਿ ਭੂਮੀ ॥੪੬੧॥
hane soor banke gire jhoom bhoomee |461|
Many bloody and great sword-wielders and armour-wearers were conquered, many Kandhari warriors, wearing large steel-armours, were destroyed, many elegant warriors of Rum country were killed and those great warriors swung and fell on the earth.461.
ਹਣੇ ਕਾਬੁਲੀ ਬਾਬਲੀ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਕੇ ॥

ਬਲੀ ਬਾਲਖੀ ਰੋਹਿ ਰੂਮੀ ਰਜੀਲੇ ॥

ਭਜੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਭਏ ਬੰਦ ਢੀਲੇ ॥੪੬੨॥

The warriors of Kabul, Babylonia, Kandhar, Iraq and Balkh were destroyed an d they all, getting fearful, fled away.462.
ਤਜੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਸਜੇ ਨਾਰਿ ਭੇਸੰ ॥

ਲਜੈ ਬੀਰ ਧੀਰੰ ਚਲੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

ਗਜੀ ਬਾਜਿ ਗਾਜੀ ਰਥੀ ਰਾਜ ਹੀਣੰ ॥
gajee baaj gaajee rathee raaj heenan |
ਤਜੈ ਬੀਰ ਧੀਰੰ ਭਏ ਅੰਗ ਛੀਣੰ ॥੪੬੩॥

The warriors, abandoning their arms and weapons, assumed the garb of women and getting ashamed, left their own country, the elephant-riders, the horse-riders and chariot-riders were deprived of their kingdom and the warriors forsaking forbearance, became
ਭਜੇ ਹਾਬਸੀ ਹਾਲਬੀ ਕਉਕ ਬੰਦ੍ਰੀ ॥

ਚਲੇ ਬਰਬਰੀ ਅਰਮਨੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਤੰਦ੍ਰੀ ॥
chale barabaree aramanee chhaadd tandree |
ਖੁਲਿਓ ਖਗ ਖੂਨੀ ਤਹਾ ਏਕ ਗਾਜੀ ॥
khulio khag khoonee tahaa ek gaajee |
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਸੈਣ ਮਧੰ ਨਚਿਓ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਜੀ ॥੪੬੪॥
duhoon sain madhan nachio jaae taajee |464|
The negroes and people of other countries fled away, and in the same way, the barbarians of Armenia also ran away, there one of the warriors taking out his sword, caused his horse to dance between both the armies.464.
ਲਖਿਓ ਜੁਧ ਜੰਗੀ ਮਹਾ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਤਾ ॥

ਛੁਭਿਓ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਰਣੰ ਛਤ੍ਰਿ ਹਰਤਾ ॥
chhubhio chhatradhaaree ranan chhatr harataa |
ਦੁਰੰ ਦੁਰਦਗਾਮੀ ਦਲੰ ਜੁਧ ਜੇਤਾ ॥
duran duradagaamee dalan judh jetaa |
ਛੁਭੇ ਛਤ੍ਰਿ ਹੰਤਾ ਜਯੰ ਜੁਧ ਹੇਤਾ ॥੪੬੫॥
chhubhe chhatr hantaa jayan judh hetaa |465|
The Lord, the Great Creator of the wars saw all this and the destroyer of the great canopied-kings, the Lord (Kalki) became enraged, that Lord was the conqueror of the noteworthy most tyrannical armies and he got terrible infuriated.465.
ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੈ ਬਾਣ ਛਡੇ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
mahaa krodh kai baan chhadde apaaran |
ਕਟੇ ਟਟਰੰ ਫਉਜ ਫੁਟੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਰੰ ॥
katte ttattaran fauj futtee nripaaran |
ਗਿਰੀ ਲੁਥ ਜੁਥੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਥ ਬਥੰ ॥
giree luth juthan mile hath bathan |
ਗਿਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ਰਣੰ ਮੁਖ ਜੁਥੰ ॥੪੬੬॥
gire ang bhangan ranan mukh juthan |466|
He discharged arrows in great rage and the army of that king was chopped and knocked down, the corpses fell in groups, heaps of hands, waists and other broken limbs fell down.466.
ਕਰੈ ਕੇਲ ਕੰਕੀ ਕਿਲਕੈਤ ਕਾਲੀ ॥

ਤਜੈ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਮਾਲਾ ਮਹਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜ੍ਵਾਲੀ ॥
tajai jvaal maalaa mahaa jot jvaalee |
ਹਸੈ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ਤੁਟੈ ਤਥਿ ਤਾਲੰ ॥
hasai bhoot pretan tuttai tath taalan |
ਫਿਰੈ ਗਉਰ ਦੌਰੀ ਪੁਐ ਰੁੰਡ ਮਾਲੰ ॥੪੬੭॥

The crows shouted caw and the flames of fire arose creating crackling noise, the ghosts and fiends laughed there and the goddess Kali ran, while stringing the rosaries of skulls.467.

The warriors, getting enraged, waged war and discharged arrows, they were shouting “kill, kill”, while showering arrows.468.

ਦਿਵੰ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਖੈ ॥

Dancing in the mood of fighting, the warriors fell with broken limbs, and both the gods and demons, on seeing them said “bravo, bravo”.469.

Sorat'h, First Mehl:
ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗੰਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
alakh apaar agam agochar naa tis kaal na karamaa |
He is unknowable, infinite, unapproachable and imperceptible. He is not subject to death or karma.
ਜਾਤਿ ਅਜਾਤਿ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਭਰਮਾ ॥੧॥
jaat ajaat ajonee sanbhau naa tis bhaau na bharamaa |1|
His caste is casteless; He is unborn, self-illumined, and free of doubt and desire. ||1||
ਸਾਚੇ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
saache sachiaar vittahu kurabaan |
I am a sacrifice to the Truest of the True.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪ ਵਰਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naa tis roop varan nahee rekhiaa saachai sabad neesaan | rahaau |
He has no form, no color and no features; through the True Word of the Shabad, He reveals Himself. ||Pause||
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
naa tis maat pitaa sut bandhap naa tis kaam na naaree |
He has no mother, father, sons or relatives; He is free of sexual desire; He has no wife.
ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅਪਰ ਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
akul niranjan apar paranpar sagalee jot tumaaree |2|
He has no ancestry; He is immaculate. He is infinite and endless; O Lord, Your Light is pervading all. ||2||
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
ghatt ghatt antar braham lukaaeaa ghatt ghatt jot sabaaee |
Deep within each and every heart, God is hidden; His Light is in each and every heart.
ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
bajar kapaatt mukate guramatee nirabhai taarree laaee |3|
The heavy doors are opened by Guru's Instructions; one becomes fearless, in the trance of deep meditation. ||3||
ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
jant upaae kaal sir jantaa vasagat jugat sabaaee |
The Lord created all beings, and placed death over the heads of all; all the world is under His Power.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੪॥
satigur sev padaarath paaveh chhootteh sabad kamaaee |4|
Serving the True Guru, the treasure is obtained; living the Word of the Shabad, one is emancipated. ||4||
ਸੂਚੈ ਭਾਡੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੂਚਾਚਾਰੀ ॥
soochai bhaaddai saach samaavai virale soochaachaaree |
In the pure vessel, the True Name is contained; how few are those who practice true conduct.
ਤੰਤੈ ਕਉ ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੫॥੬॥
tantai kau param tant milaaeaa naanak saran tumaaree |5|6|
The individual soul is united with the Supreme Soul; Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, Lord. ||5||6||

Sorat'h, First Mehl:
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
jiau meenaa bin paaneeai tiau saakat marai piaas |
Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst.
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰੀਐ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
tiau har bin mareeai re manaa jo birathaa jaavai saas |1|
So shall you die, O mind, without the Lord, as your breath goes in vain. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਇ ॥
man re raam naam jas lee |
O mind, chant the Lord's Name, and praise Him.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਹਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin gur ihu ras kiau lhau gur melai har dee | rahaau |
Without the Guru, how will you obtain this juice? The Guru shall unite you with the Lord. ||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
sant janaa mil sangatee guramukh teerath hoe |
For the Gurmukh, meeting with the Society of the Saints is like making a pilgrimage to a sacred shrine.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
atthasatth teerath majanaa gur daras paraapat hoe |2|
The benefit of bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is obtained by the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਤਪੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
jiau jogee jat baaharaa tap naahee sat santokh |
Like the Yogi without abstinence, and like penance without truth and contentment,
ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੩॥
tiau naamai bin dehuree jam maarai antar dokh |3|
so is the body without the Lord's Name; death will slay it, because of the sin within. ||3||
ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
saakat prem na paaeeai har paaeeai satigur bhaae |
The faithless cynic does not obtain the Lord's Love; the Lord's Love is obtained only through the True Guru.
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੭॥
sukh dukh daataa gur milai kahu naanak sifat samaae |4|7|
One who meets with the Guru, the Giver of pleasure and pain, says Nanak, is absorbed in the Lord's Praise. ||4||7||

too prabh daataa daan mat pooraa ham thaare bhekhaaree jeeo |
You, God, are the Giver of gifts, the Lord of perfect understanding; I am a mere beggar at Your Door.
ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
mai kiaa maagau kichh thir na rahaaee har deejai naam piaaree jeeo |1|
What should I beg for? Nothing remains permanent; O Lord, please, bless me with Your Beloved Name. ||1||
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
ghatt ghatt rav rahiaa banavaaree |
In each and every heart, the Lord, the Lord of the forest, is permeating and pervading.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਗੁਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jal thal maheeal gupato varatai gurasabadee dekh nihaaree jeeo | rahaau |
In the water, on the land, and in the sky, He is pervading but hidden; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is revealed. ||Pause||
ਮਰਤ ਪਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
marat peaal akaas dikhaaeo gur satigur kirapaa dhaaree jeeo |
In this world, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in the Akaashic Ethers, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the Lord; He has showered me with His Mercy.
ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਨੀ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
so braham ajonee hai bhee honee ghatt bheetar dekh muraaree jeeo |2|
He is the unborn Lord God; He is, and shall ever be. Deep within your heart, behold Him, the Destroyer of ego. ||2||
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਪੁੜੋ ਇਨਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
janam maran kau ihu jag bapurro in doojai bhagat visaaree jeeo |
This wretched world is caught in birth and death; in the love of duality, it has forgotten devotional worship of the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
satigur milai ta guramat paaeeai saakat baajee haaree jeeo |3|
Meeting the True Guru, the Guru's Teachings are obtained; the faithless cynic loses the game of life. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
satigur bandhan torr niraare bahurr na garabh majhaaree jeeo |
Breaking my bonds, the True Guru has set me free, and I shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak giaan ratan paragaasiaa har man vasiaa nirankaaree jeeo |4|8|
O Nanak, the jewel of spiritual wisdom shines forth, and the Lord, the Formless Lord, dwells within my mind. ||4||8||
