PAADHARI STANZA

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੈਨ ਜੁਝੀ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

eih bhaat sain jujhee apaar |

ਰਣਿ ਰੋਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਹ ਧਾਏ ਲੁਝਾਰ ॥

ran roh kroeh dhaae lujhaar |

ਤਜੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਗਜੰਤ ਬੀਰ ॥

tajant baan gajant beer |

ਉਠੰਤ ਨਾਦ ਭਜੰਤ ਭੀਰ ॥੪੨੦॥

autthant naad bhajant bheer |420|

In this way, innumerable army fought and the warriors, in anger, and discharging arrows and thundering advanced forward, hearing the dreadful sound, the cowards ran away.420.

ਧਾਏ ਸਬਾਹ ਜੋਧਾ ਸਕੋਪ ॥

dhaae sabaah jodhaa sakop |

ਕਢਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਬਾਹੰਤ ਧੋਪ ॥

kadtat kripaan baahant dhop |

ਲੁਝੰਤ ਸੂਰ ਜੁਝੰਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

lujhant soor jujhant apaar |

ਜਣ ਸੇਤਬੰਧ ਦਿਖੀਅਤ ਪਹਾਰ ॥੪੨੧॥

jan setabandh dikheeat pahaar |421|

The warriors, in anger , marched forward with their contingents and taking out their swords, they bean to strike blows, the heaps of the corpses looked like the mountains lying on the sea-cost for building the dam.421.

ਕਟੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਭਭਕੰਤ ਘਾਵ ॥

kattant ang bhabhakant ghaav |

ਸਿਝੰਤ ਸੂਰ ਜੁਝੰਤ ਚਾਵ ॥

sijhant soor jujhant chaav |

ਨਿਰਖੰਤ ਸਿਧ ਚਾਰਣ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

nirakhant sidh chaaran anant |

ਉਚਰੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਜੋਧਨ ਬਿਅੰਤ ॥੪੨੨॥

aucharant krit jodhan biant |422|

The limbs are being chopped, the wounds are oozing our and the warriors are fighting full of zeal, the adepts, minstrels and ballad-singers etc. are looking at the fighting and are also singing the praises of the heroes.422.

ਨਾਚੰਤ ਆਪ ਈਸਰ ਕਰਾਲ ॥

ਬਾਜੰਤ ਡਉਰੁ ਭੈਕਰਿ ਬਿਸਾਲ ॥

ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਚਖ ਛਾਡੰਤ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ॥੪੨੩॥

chal chit chakh chhaaddant jvaal |423|

Shiva, assuming his dreadful form, is dancing and his frightening tabor is being played, the goddess Kali is stringing the rosaries of skulls and is releasing the fire-flames, while drinking blood.423.

The dreadful war-drums sounded, hearing which the cloud felt shy, the Kshatriyas fought in the battlefield and pulling their bows, discharged the arrows.424.

ਗਿਰੈ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ॥

ਨਚੇ ਜੰਗ ਰੰਗੰ ॥

nache jang rangan |

ਖੁਲੇ ਖਗ ਖੂਨੀ ॥

ਚੜੇ ਚਉਪ ਦੂਨੀ ॥੪੨੫॥

The warriors, with the broken limbs, fell while dancing, being absorbed in fighting, the fighters drew out their daggers with double zeal.425.

ਭਯੋ ਘੋਰ ਜੁਧੰ ॥

bhayo ghor judhan |

ਇਤੀ ਕਾਹਿ ਸੁਧੰ ॥

eitee kaeh sudhan |

ਜਿਣਿਓ ਕਾਲ ਰੂਪੰ ॥

jinio kaal roopan |

ਭਜੇ ਸਰਬ ਭੂਪੰ ॥੪੨੬॥

bhaje sarab bhoopan |426|

Such a terrible war was fought, that none of the fighters remained in senses, Kalki, the manifestation of Yama, was victorious and all the kings fled away.426.

ਸਬੈ ਸੈਣ ਭਾਜਾ ॥

sabai sain bhaajaa |

ਫਿਰ︀ਯੋ ਆਪ ਰਾਜਾ ॥

firayo aap raajaa |

ਠਟ੍ਰਯੋ ਆਣਿ ਜੁਧੰ ॥

ਭਇਓ ਨਾਦ ਉਧੰ ॥੪੨੭॥

When all the kings fled away, then the king (of Sambhal) himself rotated and came in front and producing the terrible sound, he began the fighting.427.

ਤਜੇ ਬਾਣ ਐਸੇ ॥

ਬਣੰ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥

ਜਲੰ ਮੇਘ ਧਾਰਾ ॥

ਨਭੰ ਜਾਣੁ ਤਾਰਾ ॥੪੨੮॥

He was discharging his arrows as if the leaves were flying in the forest or the stars were falling from the sky.428.

ਕਰ ਅੰਸੁਮਾਲੀ ॥

ਸਰੰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਾਲੀ ॥

ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਿ ਛੂਟੇ ॥

ਮਹਾ ਜੋਧ ਜੂਟੇ ॥੪੨੯॥

He caused great loss to the enemies with his arrows, the arrows of the great warriors were discharged from all the four sides.429.

ਚਲੇ ਕੀਟਕਾ ਸੇ ॥

chale keettakaa se |

ਬਢੇ ਟਿਡਕਾ ਸੇ ॥

badte ttiddakaa se |

ਕਨੰ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਰੇਤੰ ॥

ਤਨੰ ਰੋਮ ਤੇਤੰ ॥੪੩੦॥

The arrows flew like the innumerable worms and locusts and they were countless in numbers like the particles of sand and the hair of the body.430.

ਛੁਟੇ ਸ੍ਵਰਣ ਪੁਖੀ ॥

chhutte svaran pukhee |

ਸੁਧੰ ਸਾਰ ਮੁਖੀ ॥

sudhan saar mukhee |

ਕਲੰ ਕੰਕ ਪਤ੍ਰੀ ॥

kalan kank patree |

ਤਜੇ ਜਾਣੁ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ॥੪੩੧॥

taje jaan chhatree |431|

The arrows, with golden wings and steel tips, were discharged and in this way, the arrows with sharp tips were discharged on the Kshatriyas.431.

ਗਿਰੈ ਰੇਤ ਖੇਤੰ ॥

ਨਚੈ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ॥

nachai bhoot pretan |

ਕਰੈ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਾਰੰ ॥

ਤਜੈ ਬਾਣ ਧਾਰੰ ॥੪੩੨॥

The warriors began to fall in the battlefield and the ghosts and fiends danced, the fighters, getting pleased, showered arrows.432.

ਲਹੈ ਜੋਧ ਜੋਧੰ ॥

lahai jodh jodhan |

ਕਰੈ ਘਾਇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੰ ॥

karai ghaae krodhan |

ਖਹੈ ਖਗ ਖਗੈ ॥

khahai khag khagai |

ਉਠੈ ਝਾਲ ਅਗੈ ॥੪੩੩॥

autthai jhaal agai |433|

The warriors challenging others in fury, inflicted wounds on them, with the collision of dagger with the dagger, the sparks of fire were emited.433.

chale baal aale |

ਹਸੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਨਾਚੈ ॥

The horses danced and the ghosts roamed, the fiends, laughingly were absorbed in war.434.

ਮੰਡਿਓ ਜੁਧ ਈਸੰ ॥

manddio judh eesan |

ਦਸੰ ਦਿਉਸ ਕੁਧੰ ॥

ਭਯੋ ਘੋਰ ਜੁਧੰ ॥੪੩੫॥

bhayo ghor judhan |435|

Shiva also fought, while dancing, and in this way, for ten days, this ire-full war was fought.435.

ਪੁਨਰ ਬੀਰ ਤ︀ਯਾਗ੍ਰਯੋ ॥

punar beer tayaagrayo |

ਪਗੰ ਦ੍ਵੈਕੁ ਭਾਗ︀ਯੋ ॥

pagan dvaik bhaagayo |

ਫਿਰ︀ਯੋ ਫੇਰਿ ਐਸੇ ॥

firayo fer aise |

ਕ੍ਰੋਧੀ ਸਾਪ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੪੩੬॥

krodhee saap jaise |436|

Then the king, abandoning his spirit of bravery, ran for two steps, but then he rotated like the revengful snake.436.

ਪੁਨਰ ਜੁਧ ਮੰਡਿਓ ॥

punar judh manddio |

ਸਰੰ ਓਘ ਛੰਡਿਓ ॥

saran ogh chhanddio |

ਤਜੈ ਵੀਰ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

tajai veer baanan |

ਮ੍ਰਿਤੰ ਆਇ ਤ੍ਰਾਣੰ ॥੪੩੭॥

mritan aae traanan |437|

Then he again began the war and showered arrows, the warriors discharged arrows and the death released them from the terror of the war.437.

ਸਭੈ ਸਿਧ ਦੇਖੈ ॥

sabhai sidh dekhai |

ਕਲੰਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

kalankrit lekhai |

ਧਨੰ ਧੰਨਿ ਜੰਪੈ ॥

dhanan dhan janpai |

ਲਖੈ ਭੀਰ ਕੰਪੈ ॥੪੩੮॥

lakhai bheer kanpai |438|

All the adepts saw Kalki and repeated “bravo, bravo”, the cowards trembled on seeing him.438.

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਛਤੀਹ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਇਐ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਭਈ ॥

har naam hamaaraa bhojan chhateeh parakaar jit khaaeiai ham kau tripat bhee |

The Lord's Name is my food; eating the thirty-six varieties of it, I am satisfied and satiated.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਨੰਗੇ ਨ ਹੋਵਹ ਹੋਰ ਪੈਨਣ ਕੀ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਰਧ ਗਈ ॥

har naam hamaaraa painan jit fir nange na hovah hor painan kee hamaaree saradh gee |

The Lord's Name is my clothing; wearing it, I shall never be naked again, and my desire to wear other clothing is gone.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਵਣਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਹਮ ਕੰਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਰਕੁਨੀ ਦੀਈ ॥

har naam hamaaraa vanaj har naam vaapaar har naamai kee ham knau satigur kaarakunee deeee |

The Lord's Name is my business, the Lord's Name is my commerce; the True Guru has blessed me with its use.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਕਾ ਹਮ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਭ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਗਈ ॥

har naamai kaa ham lekhaa likhiaa sabh jam kee agalee kaan gee |

I record the account of the Lord's Name, and I shall not be subject to death again.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਪਈ ॥੧੭॥

har kaa naam guramukh kinai viralai dhiaaeaa jin knau dhur karam paraapat likhat pee |17|

Only a few, as Gurmukh, meditate on the Lord's Name; they are blessed by the Lord, and receive their pre-ordained destiny. ||17||

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਜਗਤੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

jagat agiaanee andh hai doojai bhaae karam kamaae |

The world is blind and ignorant; in the love of duality, it engages in actions.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਨਿ ਧਾਇ ॥

doojai bhaae jete karam kare dukh lagai tan dhaae |

But those actions which are performed in the love of duality, cause only pain to the body.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

gur parasaadee sukh aoopajai jaa gur kaa sabad kamaae |

By Guru's Grace, peace wells up, when one acts according to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

sachee baanee karam kare anadin naam dhiaae |

He acts according to the True Word of the Guru's Bani; night and day, he meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗੇ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

naanak jit aape laae tith lage kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |1|

O Nanak, as the Lord Himself engages him, so is he engaged; no one has any say in this matter. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

ham ghar naam khajaanaa sadaa hai bhagat bhare bhanddaaraa |

Within the home of my own being, is the everlasting treasure of the Naam; it is a treasure house, overflowing with devotion.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਸਦ ਜੀਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

satagur daataa jeea kaa sad jeevai devanahaaraa |

The True Guru is the Giver of the life of the soul; the Great Giver lives forever.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

anadin keeratan sadaa kareh gur kai sabad apaaraa |

Night and day, I continually sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise, through the Infinite Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਸਦ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵਰਤਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

sabad guroo kaa sad uchareh jug jug varataavanahaaraa |

I recite continually the Guru's Shabads, which have been effective throughout the ages.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥

eihu manooaa sadaa sukh vasai sahaje kare vaapaaraa |

This mind ever abides in peace, dealing in peace and poise.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

antar gur giaan har ratan hai mukat karaavanahaaraa |

Deep within me is the Guru's Wisdom, the Lord's jewel, the Bringer of liberation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥

naanak jis no nadar kare so paae so hovai dar sachiaaraa |2|

O Nanak, one who is blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace obtains this, and is judged to be True in the Court of the Lord. ||2||

Pauree:

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆ ॥

dhan dhan so gurasikh kaheeai jo satigur charanee jaae peaa |

Blessed, blessed is that Sikh of the Guru, who goes and falls at the Feet of the True Guru.

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿਆ ॥

dhan dhan so gurasikh kaheeai jin har naamaa mukh raam kahiaa |

Blessed, blessed is that Sikh of the Guru, who with his mouth, utters the Name of the Lord.

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

dhan dhan so gurasikh kaheeai jis har naam suniai man anad bheaa |

Blessed, blessed is that Sikh of the Guru, whose mind, upon hearing the Lord's Name, becomes blissful.

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥

dhan dhan so gurasikh kaheeai jin satigur sevaa kar har naam leaa |

Blessed, blessed is that Sikh of the Guru, who serves the True Guru, and so obtains the Lord's Name.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਕੰਉ ਹੰਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਚਲਿਆ ॥੧੮॥

tis gurasikh knau hnau sadaa namasakaaree jo gur kai bhaanai gurasikh chaliaa |18|

I bow forever in deepest respect to that Sikh of the Guru, who walks in the Way of the Guru. ||18||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਭ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

manahatth kinai na paaeo sabh thake karam kamaae |

No one has ever found the Lord through stubborn-mindedness. All have grown weary of performing such actions.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

manahatth bhekh kar bharamade dukh paaeaa doojai bhaae |

Through their stubborn-mindedness, and by wearing their disguises, they are deluded; they suffer in pain from the love of duality.

ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

ridh sidh sabh mohu hai naam na vasai man aae |

Riches and the supernatural spiritual powers of the Siddhas are all emotional attachments; through them, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not come to dwell in the mind.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

gur sevaa te man niramal hovai agiaan andheraa jaae |

Serving the Guru, the mind becomes immaculately pure, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled.

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਘਰਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

naam ratan ghar paragatt hoaa naanak sehaj samaae |1|

The jewel of the Naam is revealed in the home of one's own being; O Nanak, one merges in celestial bliss. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

sabadai saad na aaeo naam na lago piaar |

One who does not savor the taste of the Shabad, who does not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥

rasanaa fikaa bolanaa nit nit hoe khuaar |

and who speaks insipid words with his tongue, is ruined, again and again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਪਇਐ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
