ਨ ਜਟਾ ਮੂੰਡ ਧਾਰੋਂ ॥

ਨ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਕਾ ਸਵਾਰੋਂ ॥
n mundrakaa savaaron |
I neither wear matted hair on the head nor bedeck myself with ear-rings.
ਜਪੋ ਤਾਸ ਨਾਮੰ ॥

ਸਰੈ ਸਰਬ ਕਾਮੰ ॥੫੧॥
sarai sarab kaaman |51|
I meditate on the Name of the Lord, which helps me in all my errands.51.
ਨ ਨੈਨੰ ਮਿਚਾਊਂ ॥

ਨ ਡਿੰਭੰ ਦਿਖਾਊਂ ॥
n ddinbhan dikhaaoon |
Neither I close my eyes, nor exhibit heresy.
ਨ ਕੁਕਰਮੰ ਕਮਾਊਂ ॥

ਨ ਭੇਖੀ ਕਹਾਊਂ ॥੫੨॥

Nor perform evil actions, nor cause others to call me a person in disguise. 52.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਭੇਖ ਸੁ ਤਨ ਮੈਂ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
je je bhekh su tan main dhaarai |
ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਨ ਕਛੁ ਕੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
te prabh jan kachh kai na bichaarai |
Those persons who adopt different guises are never liked by the men of God.
ਸਮਝ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
samajh lehu sabh jan man maahee |
ਡਿੰਭਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੫੩॥
ddinbhan mai paramesur naahee |53|
All of you may understanding this that God is absent form all these guises.53.
ਜੇ ਜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਡਿੰਭ ਦਿਖਾਹੀਂ ॥
je je karam kar ddinbh dikhaaheen |
ਤਿਨ ਪਰ ਲੋਗਨ ਮੋ ਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀਂ ॥
tin par logan mo gat naaheen |
Those who exhibit various garbs through various actions, they never get release in the next world.
ਜੀਵਤ ਚਲਤ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
jeevat chalat jagat ke kaajaa |
ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜਤ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੫੪॥
svaang dekh kar poojat raajaa |54|
While alive, their worldly desires may be fulfilled and the king may be pleased on seeing their mimicry.54.
ਸੁਆਂਗਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
suaangan mai paramesur naahee |
ਖੋਜ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੀ ॥
khoj firai sabh hee ko kaahee |
The Lord-God is not present in such mimics, even all the places be serched by all.
ਅਪਨੋ ਮਨੁ ਕਰ ਮੋ ਜਿਹ ਆਨਾ ॥
apano man kar mo jih aanaa |
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੋ ਤਿਨੀ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫੫॥
paarabraham ko tinee pachhaanaa |55|
Only those who controlled their minds, recognized the Supreme Brahman.55.

ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਜਗਤ ਕੋ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੋ ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨ ॥
bhekh dikhaae jagat ko logan ko bas keen |
Those who exhibit various guises in the world and win people on their side.
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਕਾਤੀ ਕਟਿਓ ਬਾਸੁ ਨਰਕ ਮੋ ਲੀਨ ॥੫੬॥
ant kaal kaatee kattio baas narak mo leen |56|
They will reside in hell, when the sword of death chops them. 56.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਡਿੰਭ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥

ਲੋਗਨ ਮੂੰਡ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
logan moondd adhik sukh paavai |
Those who exhibit different guises, find disciples and enjoy great comforts.
ਨਾਸਾਂ ਮੂੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮੰ ॥
naasaan moond kare pranaaman |
ਫੋਕਟ ਧਰਮ ਨ ਕਉਡੀ ਕਾਮੰ ॥੫੭॥
fokatt dharam na kauddee kaaman |57|
Those who their nostrils and perform prostrations, their religious discipline is vain and useless.57.
ਫੋਕਟ ਧਰਮ ਜਿਤੇ ਜਗ ਕਰਹੀਂ ॥
fokatt dharam jite jag karaheen |
ਨਰਕ ਕੁੰਡ ਭੀਤਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਹੀਂ ॥
narak kundd bheetar te paraheen |
All the followers of the futile path, fall into hell from within.
ਹਾਥ ਹਲਾਏ ਸੁਰਗ ਨ ਜਾਹੂ ॥
haath halaae surag na jaahoo |
ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤ ਸਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਾਹੂ ॥੫੮॥
jo man jeet sakaa naheen kaahoo |58|
They cannot go to heavens with the movement of the hands, because they could not control their minds in any way. 58.

ਜੋ ਨਿਜ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੋ ਸੋ ਕਹਾ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਹੋਂ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jo nij prabh mo so kahaa so kahihon jag maeh |
Whatever my Lord said to me, I say the same in the world.
ਜੋ ਤਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਹੈ ਅੰਤ ਸੁਰਗ ਕੋ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੫੯॥
jo tih prabh ko dhiaae hai ant surag ko jaeh |59|
Those who have meditated on the Lord, ultimately go to heaven.59.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਦੁਇ ਏਕ ਹੈ ਬਿਬ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

The Lord and His devotees are one, there is no difference between them.
ਜਲ ਤੇ ਉਪਜ ਤਰੰਗ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੬੦॥
jal te upaj tarang jiau jal hee bikhai samaeh |60|
Just as the wave of water, arising in water, merges in water.60.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਬਾਦਿ ਕਰਤ ਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥

ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਰਹਤ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
tin te bhin rehat karataaraa |
Those who quarrel in ego, they are far removed from the Lord.
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਬਿਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀਂ ॥
bed kateb bikhai har naaheen |
ਜਾਨ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਰਿਜਨ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀਂ ॥੬੧॥
jaan lehu harijan man maaheen |61|
O men of God! Understand this that the Lord doth not reside in Vedas and katebs. 61.
ਆਂਖ ਮੂੰਦਿ ਕੋਊ ਡਿੰਭ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
aankh moond koaoo ddinbh dikhaavai |
ਆਂਧਰ ਕੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਕਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
aandhar kee padavee keh paavai |
He, who exhibits heresy in closing his eyes, attains the state of blindness.
ਆਂਖਿ ਮੀਚ ਮਗ ਸੂਝ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aankh meech mag soojh na jaaee |
ਤਾਹਿ ਅਨੰਤ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਮ ਭਾਈ ॥੬੨॥
taeh anant milai kim bhaaee |62|
By closing the eyes one cannot know the path, how can then, O brother! He meet the Infinite Lord?62.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ਕਹ ਲਉ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ॥
bahu bisathaar keh lau koee kahai |
ਸਮਝਤ ਬਾਤਿ ਥਕਤ ਹੁਐ ਰਹੈ ॥
samajhat baat thakat huai rahai |
To what extent, the details be given? When one understands, he feels tired.
ਰਸਨਾ ਧਰੈ ਕਈ ਜੋ ਕੋਟਾ ॥
rasanaa dharai kee jo kottaa |
ਤਦਪਿ ਗਨਤ ਤਿਹ ਪਰਤ ਸੁ ਤੋਟਾ ॥੬੩॥
tadap ganat tih parat su tottaa |63|
If one is blessed with millions of tongues, even then he feels them short in number, (while singing the Praises of the Lord)63.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਤਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
satigur pooraa je milai paaeeai ratan beechaar |
Meeting the Perfect True Guru, we find the jewel of meditative reflection.
ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਰਬ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
man deejai gur aapane paaeeai sarab piaar |
Surrendering our minds to our Guru, we find universal love.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
mukat padaarath paaeeai avagan mettanahaar |1|
We find the wealth of liberation, and our demerits are erased. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaaee re gur bin giaan na hoe |
O Siblings of Destiny, without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom.
ਪੂਛਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨਾਰਦੈ ਬੇਦ ਬਿਆਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poochhahu brahame naaradai bed biaasai koe |1| rahaau |
Go and ask Brahma, Naarad and Vyaas, the writer of the Vedas. ||1||Pause||
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
giaan dhiaan dhun jaaneeai akath kahaavai soe |
Know that from the vibration of the Word, we obtain spiritual wisdom and meditation. Through it, we speak the Unspoken.
ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ਛਾਵ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
safalio birakh hareeaavalaa chhaav ghaneree hoe |
He is the fruit-bearing Tree, luxuriantly green with abundant shade.
ਲਾਲ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
laal javehar maanakee gur bhanddaarai soe |2|
The rubies, jewels and emeralds are in the Guru's Treasury. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gur bhanddaarai paaeeai niramal naam piaar |
From the Guru's Treasury, we receive the Love of the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਾਚੋ ਵਖਰੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
saacho vakhar sancheeai poorai karam apaar |
We gather in the True Merchandise, through the Perfect Grace of the Infinite.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਣੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
sukhadaataa dukh mettano satigur asur sanghaar |3|
The True Guru is the Giver of peace, the Dispeller of pain, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਡਰਾਵਣੋ ਨਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਨਾ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
bhavajal bikham ddaraavano naa kandhee naa paar |
The terrifying world-ocean is difficult and dreadful; there is no shore on this side or the one beyond.
ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਵੰਝੁ ਮਲਾਰੁ ॥
naa berree naa tulaharraa naa tis vanjh malaar |
There is no boat, no raft, no oars and no boatman.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੈ ਕਾ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
satigur bhai kaa bohithaa nadaree paar utaar |4|
The True Guru is the only boat on this terrifying ocean. His Glance of Grace carries us across. ||4||
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
eik til piaaraa visarai dukh laagai sukh jaae |
If I forget my Beloved, even for an instant, suffering overtakes me and peace departs.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜਲਉ ਜਲਾਵਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪੈ ਰਸਾਇ ॥
jihavaa jlau jalaavanee naam na japai rasaae |
Let that tongue be burnt in flames, which does not chant the Naam with love.
ਘਟੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲੋ ਜਮੁ ਪਕੜੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੫॥
ghatt binasai dukh agalo jam pakarrai pachhutaae |5|
When the pitcher of the body bursts, there is terrible pain; those who are caught by the Minister of Death regret and repent. ||5||
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਨ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
meree meree kar ge tan dhan kalat na saath |
Crying out, "Mine! Mine!", they have departed, but their bodies, their wealth, and their wives did not go with them.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਹੈ ਭੂਲੋ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਆਥਿ ॥
bin naavai dhan baad hai bhoolo maarag aath |
Without the Name, wealth is useless; deceived by wealth, they have lost their way.
ਸਾਚਉ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥੋ ਕਾਥਿ ॥੬॥
saachau saahib seveeai guramukh akatho kaath |6|
So serve the True Lord; become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken. ||6||
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
aavai jaae bhavaaeeai peiai kirat kamaae |
Coming and going, people wander through reincarnation; they act according to their past actions.
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਟੀਐ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
poorab likhiaa kiau metteeai likhiaa lekh rajaae |
How can one's pre-ordained destiny be erased? It is written in accordance with the Lord's Will.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
bin har naam na chhutteeai guramat milai milaae |7|
Without the Name of the Lord, no one can be saved. Through the Guru's Teachings, we are united in His Union. ||7||
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਨੁ ॥
tis bin meraa ko nahee jis kaa jeeo paraan |
Without Him, I have no one to call my own. My soul and my breath of life belong to Him.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਲੋਭੁ ਜਲਉ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
haumai mamataa jal blau lobh jlau abhimaan |
May my egotism and possessiveness be burnt to ashes, and my greed and egotistical pride consigned to the fire.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੦॥
naanak sabad veechaareeai paaeeai gunee nidhaan |8|10|
O Nanak, contemplating the Shabad, the Treasure of Excellence is obtained. ||8||10||

re man aisee har siau preet kar jaisee jal kamalehi |
O mind, love the Lord, as the lotus loves the water.
ਲਹਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਛਾੜੀਐ ਭੀ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਅਸਨੇਹਿ ॥
laharee naal pachhaarreeai bhee vigasai asanehi |
Tossed about by the waves, it still blossoms with love.
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਨੇਹਿ ॥੧॥
jal meh jeea upaae kai bin jal maran tinehi |1|
In the water, the creatures are created; outside of the water they die. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
man re kiau chhootteh bin piaar |
O mind, how can you be saved without love?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramukh antar rav rahiaa bakhase bhagat bhanddaar |1| rahaau |
God permeates the inner beings of the Gurmukhs. They are blessed with the treasure of devotion. ||1||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰ ॥
re man aisee har siau preet kar jaisee machhulee neer |
O mind, love the Lord, as the fish loves the water.
ਜਿਉ ਅਧਿਕਉ ਤਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
jiau adhikau tiau sukh ghano man tan saant sareer |
The more the water, the more the happiness, and the greater the peace of mind and body.
ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਭ ਪੀਰ ॥੨॥
bin jal gharree na jeevee prabh jaanai abh peer |2|
Without water, she cannot live, even for an instant. God knows the suffering of her mind. ||2||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੇਹ ॥
re man aisee har siau preet kar jaisee chaatrik meh |
O mind, love the Lord, as the song-bird loves the rain.
ਸਰ ਭਰਿ ਥਲ ਹਰੀਆਵਲੇ ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਨ ਪਵਈ ਕੇਹ ॥
sar bhar thal hareeaavale ik boond na pavee keh |
The pools are overflowing with water, and the land is luxuriantly green, but what are they to her, if that single drop of rain does not fall into her mouth?
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥
karam milai so paaeeai kirat peaa sir deh |3|
By His Grace, she receives it; otherwise, because of her past actions, she gives her head. ||3||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਜਲ ਦੁਧ ਹੋਇ ॥
re man aisee har siau preet kar jaisee jal dudh hoe |
O mind, love the Lord, as the water loves the milk.
ਆਵਟਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਖਵੈ ਦੁਧ ਕਉ ਖਪਣਿ ਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
aavattan aape khavai dudh kau khapan na dee |
The water, added to the milk, itself bears the heat, and prevents the milk from burning.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੪॥
aape mel vichhuniaa sach vaddiaaee dee |4|
God unites the separated ones with Himself again, and blesses them with true greatness. ||4||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰ ॥
re man aisee har siau preet kar jaisee chakavee soor |
O mind, love the Lord, as the chakvee duck loves the sun.
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
khin pal need na sovee jaanai door hajoor |
She does not sleep, for an instant or a moment; the sun is so far away, but she thinks that it is near.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੫॥
manamukh sojhee naa pavai guramukh sadaa hajoor |5|
Understanding does not come to the self-willed manmukh. But to the Gurmukh, the Lord is always close. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਵਣੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
manamukh ganat ganaavanee karataa kare su hoe |
The self-willed manmukhs make their calculations and plans, but only the actions of the Creator come to pass.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
taa kee keemat naa pavai je lochai sabh koe |
His Value cannot be estimated, even though everyone may wish to do so.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥
guramat hoe ta paaeeai sach milai sukh hoe |6|
Through the Guru's Teachings, it is revealed. Meeting with the True One, peace is found. ||6||
ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
sachaa nehu na tuttee je satigur bhettai soe |
True love shall not be broken, if the True Guru is met.
ਗਿਆਨ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
giaan padaarath paaeeai tribhavan sojhee hoe |
Obtaining the wealth of spiritual wisdom, the understanding of the three worlds is acquired.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥
niramal naam na veesarai je gun kaa gaahak hoe |7|
So become a customer of merit, and do not forget the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਖੇਲਿ ਗਏ ਸੇ ਪੰਖਣੂੰ ਜੋ ਚੁਗਦੇ ਸਰ ਤਲਿ ॥
khel ge se pankhanoon jo chugade sar tal |
Those birds which peck at the shore of the pool have played and have departed.
ਘੜੀ ਕਿ ਮੁਹਤਿ ਕਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਖੇਲਣੁ ਅਜੁ ਕਿ ਕਲਿ ॥
gharree ki muhat ki chalanaa khelan aj ki kal |
In a moment, in an instant, we too must depart. Our play is only for today or tomorrow.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਚਾ ਪਿੜੁ ਮਲਿ ॥੮॥
jis toon meleh so milai jaae sachaa pirr mal |8|
But those whom You unite, Lord, are united with You; they obtain a seat in the Arena of Truth. ||8||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur preet na aoopajai haumai mail na jaae |
Without the Guru, love does not well up, and the filth of egotism does not depart.
ਸੋਹੰ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥
sohan aap pachhaaneeai sabad bhed pateeae |
One who recognizes within himself that, "He is me", and who is pierced through by the Shabad, is satisfied.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਅਵਰ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇ ॥੯॥
guramukh aap pachhaaneeai avar ki kare karaae |9|
When one becomes Gurmukh and realizes his own self, what more is there left to do or have done? ||9||
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੇਲੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥
miliaa kaa kiaa meleeai sabad mile pateeae |
Why speak of union to those who are already united with the Lord? Receiving the Shabad, they are satisfied.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਵੀਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
manamukh sojhee naa pavai veechhurr chottaa khaae |
The self-willed manmukhs do not understand; separated from Him, they endure beatings.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੧੧॥
naanak dar ghar ek hai avar na doojee jaae |10|11|
O Nanak, there is only the one door to His Home; there is no other place at all. ||10||11||
