Salok, Third Mehl:
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhai vich sabh aakaar hai nirbhau har jeeo soe |
The entire universe is in fear; only the Dear Lord is fearless.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਭਉ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
satigur seviai har man vasai tithai bhau kade na hoe |
Serving the True Guru, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, and then, fear cannot stay there.
ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
dusaman dukh tis no nerr na aavai pohi na sakai koe |
Enemies and pain cannot come close, and no one can touch him.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
guramukh man veechaariaa jo tis bhaavai su hoe |
The Gurmukh reflects upon the Lord in his mind; whatever pleases the Lord - that alone comes to pass.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਖਸੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak aape hee pat rakhasee kaaraj savaare soe |1|
O Nanak, He Himself preserves one's honor; He alone resolves our affairs. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਇਕਿ ਸਜਣ ਚਲੇ ਇਕਿ ਚਲਿ ਗਏ ਰਹਦੇ ਭੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
eik sajan chale ik chal ge rahade bhee fun jaeh |
Some friends are leaving, some have already left, and those remaining will eventually leave.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸੇ ਆਇ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥
jinee satigur na sevio se aae ge pachhutaeh |
Those who do not serve the True Guru, come and go regretting.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
naanak sach rate se na vichhurreh satigur sev samaeh |2|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to Truth are not separated; serving the True Guru, they merge into the Lord. ||2||

ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਜਣੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ॥
tis mileeai satigur sajanai jis antar har gunakaaree |
Meet with that True Guru, the True Friend, within whose mind the Lord, the virtuous One, abides.
ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
tis mileeai satigur preetamai jin hnaumai vichahu maaree |
Meet with that Beloved True Guru, who has subdued ego from within himself.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ੍ਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
so satigur pooraa dhan dhan hai jin har upades de sabh srisatt savaaree |
Blessed, blessed is the Perfect True Guru, who has given the Lord's Teachings to reform the whole world.
ਨਿਤ ਜਪਿਅਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
nit japiahu santahu raam naam bhaujal bikh taaree |
O Saints, meditate constantly on the Lord's Name, and cross over the terrifying, poisonous world-ocean.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟੜਿਅਹੁ ਹੰਉ ਸਦ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
gur poorai har upadesiaa gur vittarriahu hnau sad vaaree |2|
The Perfect Guru has taught me about the Lord; I am forever a sacrifice to the Guru. ||2||

Salok, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
satigur kee sevaa chaakaree sukhee hoon sukh saar |
Service to, and obedience to the True Guru, is the essence of comfort and peace.
ਐਥੈ ਮਿਲਨਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
aithai milan vaddiaaeea daragah mokh duaar |
Doing so, one obtains honor here, and the door of salvation in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
sachee kaar kamaavanee sach painan sach naam adhaar |
In this way, perform the tasks of Truth, wear Truth, and take the Support of the True Name.
ਸਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sachee sangat sach milai sachai naae piaar |
Associating with Truth, obtain Truth, and love the True Name.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥
sachai sabad harakh sadaa dar sachai sachiaar |
Through the True Word of the Shabad, be always happy, and you shall be acclaimed as True in the True Court.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
naanak satigur kee sevaa so karai jis no nadar karai karataar |1|
O Nanak, he alone serves the True Guru, whom the Creator has blessed with His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਹੋਰ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
hor viddaanee chaakaree dhrig jeevan dhrig vaas |
Cursed is the life, and cursed is the dwelling, of those who serve another.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਗੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
amrit chhodd bikh lage bikh khattanaa bikh raas |
Abandoning the Ambrosial Nectar, they turn to poison; they earn poison, and poison is their only wealth.
ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਰਾਸ ॥
bikh khaanaa bikh painanaa bikh ke mukh giraas |
Poison is their food, and poison is their dress; they fill their mouths with morsels of poison.
ਐਥੈ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਮੁਇਆ ਨਰਕਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
aithai dukho dukh kamaavanaa mueaa narak nivaas |
In this world, they earn only pain and suffering, and dying, they go to abide in hell.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਹਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥
manamukh muhi mailai sabad na jaananee kaam karodh vinaas |
The self-willed manmukhs have filthy faces; they do not know the Word of the Shabad; in sexual desire and anger they waste away.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕੰਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
satigur kaa bhau chhoddiaa manahatth kam na aavai raas |
They forsake the Fear of the True Guru, and because of their stubborn ego, their efforts do not come to fruition.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸੁਣੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
jam pur badhe maareeeh ko na sune aradaas |
In the City of Death, they are bound and beaten, and no one hears their prayers.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
naanak poorab likhiaa kamaavanaa guramukh naam nivaas |2|
O Nanak, they act according to their pre-ordained destiny; the Gurmukh abides in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਜਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
so satigur sevihu saadh jan jin har har naam drirraaeaa |
Serve the True Guru, O Holy people; He implants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in our minds.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
so satigur poojahu dinas raat jin jaganaath jagadees japaaeaa |
Worship the True Guru day and night; He leads us the meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Master of the Universe.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ॥
so satigur dekhahu ik nimakh nimakh jin har kaa har panth bataaeaa |
Behold the True Guru, each and every moment; He shows us the Divine Path of the Lord.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਪਗੀ ਪਵਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
tis satigur kee sabh pagee pavahu jin moh andher chukaaeaa |
Let everyone fall at the feet of the True Guru; He has dispelled the darkness of emotional attachment.
ਸੋ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਸਭਿ ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਲਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
so satagur kahahu sabh dhan dhan jin har bhagat bhanddaar lahaaeaa |3|
Let everyone hail and praise the True Guru, who has led us to find the treasure of the Lord's devotional worship. ||3||

Salok, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭੁਖ ਗਈ ਭੇਖੀ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
satigur miliai bhukh gee bhekhee bhukh na jaae |
Meeting with the True Guru, hunger departs; by wearing the robes of a beggar, hunger does not depart.
ਦੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਗੈ ਦੂਣੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
dukh lagai ghar ghar firai agai doonee milai sajaae |
Afflicted with pain, he wanders from house to house, and in the world hereafter, he receives double punishment.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
andar sehaj na aaeo sahaje hee lai khaae |
Peace does not come to his heart - he is not content to eat what comes his way.
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਨਾਇ ॥
manahatth jis te manganaa lainaa dukh manaae |
With his stubborn mind, he begs, and grabs, and annoys those who give.
ਇਸੁ ਭੇਖੈ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੋ ਭਲਾ ਜਿਥਹੁ ਕੋ ਵਰਸਾਇ ॥
eis bhekhai thaavahu giraho bhalaa jithahu ko varasaae |
Instead of wearing these beggar's robes, it is better to be a householder, and give to others.
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
sabad rate tinaa sojhee pee doojai bharam bhulaae |
Those who are attuned to the Word of the Shabad, acquire understanding; the others wander, deluded by doubt.
ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
peiai kirat kamaavanaa kahanaa kachhoo na jaae |
They act according to their past actions; it is useless to talk to them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਥਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak jo tis bhaaveh se bhale jin kee pat paaveh thaae |1|
O Nanak, those who are pleasing unto the Lord are good; He upholds their honor. ||1||
