ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਵਡ ਹੰਸ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
sabad rate vadd hans hai sach naam ur dhaar |
The great swans are imbued with the Word of the Shabad; they enshrine the True Name within their hearts.
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
sach sangraheh sad sach raheh sachai naam piaar |
They gather Truth, remain always in Truth, and love the True Name.
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਨਦਰਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
sadaa niramal mail na lagee nadar keetee karataar |
They are always pure and immaculate - filth does not touch them; they are blessed with the Grace of the Creator Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak hau tin kai balihaaranai jo anadin japeh muraar |1|
O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who, night and day, meditate on the Lord. ||1||

ਮੈ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਵਡ ਹੰਸੁ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
mai jaaniaa vadd hans hai taa mai keea sang |
I thought that he was a great swan, so I associated with him.
ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਬਗੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਤ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਦੇਦੀ ਅੰਗੁ ॥੨॥
je jaanaa bag bapurraa ta janam na dedee ang |2|
If I had known that he was only a wretched heron from birth, I would not have touched him. ||2||

ਹੰਸਾ ਵੇਖਿ ਤਰੰਦਿਆ ਬਗਾਂ ਭਿ ਆਯਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
hansaa vekh tarandiaa bagaan bhi aayaa chaau |
Seeing the swans swimming, the herons became envious.
ਡੁਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਗ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਤਲਿ ਉਪਰਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥
ddub mue bag bapurre sir tal upar paau |3|
But the poor herons drowned and died, and floated with their heads down, and their feet above. ||3||

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
too aape hee aap aap hai aap kaaran keea |
You Yourself are Yourself, all by Yourself; You Yourself created the creation.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥
too aape aap nirankaar hai ko avar na beea |
You Yourself are Yourself the Formless Lord; there is no other than You.
ਤੂ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਥੀਆ ॥
too karan kaaran samarath hai too kareh su theea |
You are the all-powerful Cause of causes; what You do, comes to be.
ਤੂ ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਣਾ ਸਭਨਾਹਾ ਜੀਆ ॥
too anamangiaa daan devanaa sabhanaahaa jeea |
You give gifts to all beings, without their asking.
ਸਭਿ ਆਖਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਆ ॥੧॥
sabh aakhahu satigur vaahu vaahu jin daan har naam mukh deea |1|
Everyone proclaims, "Waaho! Waaho!" Blessed, blessed is the True Guru, who has given the supreme gift of the Name of the Lord. ||1||
