Where the warriors are fighting in the battlefield, there is much pomp and show, when the lances are turned upside down, there appears a miracle (that all the warriors re killed).273.

Where the steel is colliding, there the warriors are thundering, the armours are colliding with the armours, but the warriors are not retracing even two steps.274.

Somewhere the horses are running, somewhere the warriors are thundering, somewhere the heroic fighters are fighting and somewhere the warriors with breaking of their helmets are falling down.275.

Where the warriors have gathered, there they are striking the blows of their arms, they are fearlessly chopping with their weapons and killing the fighters.276.

Somewhere there are cries of “kill, kill”, and somewhere the horses are springing, somewhere seeing the opportunity the army is being removed.277.

Somewhere the wounds are being inflicted and somewhere the army is being pushed, somewhere the bodies saturated with blood are falling on the earth.278.

ਜੋ ਲੋੜੀਦੇ ਰਾਮ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਈ ਕਾਂਢਿਆ ॥
jo lorreede raam sevak seee kaandtiaa |
Those who long for the Lord, are said to be His servants.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਣੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥੧॥
naanak jaane sat saanee sant na baaharaa |1|
Nanak knows this Truth, that the Lord is not different from His Saint. ||1||

ਮਿਲਿ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਖਟਾਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
mil jal jaleh khattaanaa raam |
As water mixes and blends with water,
ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
sang jotee jot milaanaa raam |
so does one's light mix and blend with the Lord's Light.
ਸੰਮਾਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
samaae pooran purakh karate aap aapeh jaaneeai |
Merging with the perfect, all-powerful Creator, one comes to know his own self.
ਤਹ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
teh sun sehaj samaadh laagee ek ek vakhaaneeai |
Then, he enters the celestial state of absolute Samaadhi, and speaks of the One and Only Lord.
ਆਪਿ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੁ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
aap gupataa aap mukataa aap aap vakhaanaa |
He Himself is unmanifest, and He Himself is liberated; He Himself speaks of Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਖਟਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak bhram bhai gun binaase mil jal jaleh khattaanaa |4|2|
O Nanak, doubt, fear and the limitations of the three qualities are dispelled, as one merges into the Lord, like water blending with water. ||4||2||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

God is the all-powerful Creator, the Cause of causes.
ਰਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਗਲ ਦੇ ਹਥਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
rakh jagat sagal de hathaa raam |
He preserves the whole world, reaching out with His hand.
ਸਮਰਥ ਸਰਣਾ ਜੋਗੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
samarath saranaa jog suaamee kripaa nidh sukhadaataa |
He is the all-powerful, safe Sanctuary, Lord and Master, Treasure of mercy, Giver of peace.
ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
hnau kurabaanee daas tere jinee ek pachhaataa |
I am a sacrifice to Your slaves, who recognize only the One Lord.
ਵਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਲਖਿਆ ਕਥਨ ਤੇ ਅਕਥਾ ॥
varan chihan na jaae lakhiaa kathan te akathaa |
His color and shape cannot be seen; His description is indescribable.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥੧॥
binavant naanak sunahu binatee prabh karan kaaran samarathaa |1|
Prays Nanak, hear my prayer, O God, Almighty Creator, Cause of causes. ||1||
ਏਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
ehi jeea tere too karataa raam |
These beings are Yours; You are their Creator.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਹਰਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
prabh dookh darad bhram harataa raam |
God is the Destroyer of pain, suffering and doubt.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੈਆਲਾ ॥
bhram dookh darad nivaar khin meh rakh lehu deen daiaalaa |
Eliminate my doubt, pain and suffering in an instant, and preserve me, O Lord, Merciful to the meek.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਆਮਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਾਲ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
maat pitaa suaam sajan sabh jagat baal gopaalaa |
You are mother, father and friend, O Lord and Master; the whole world is Your child, O Lord of the World.
ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰਤਾ ॥
jo saran aavai gun nidhaan paavai so bahurr janam na marataa |
One who comes seeking Your Sanctuary, obtains the treasure of virtue, and does not have to enter the cycle of birth and death again.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak daas teraa sabh jeea tere too karataa |2|
Prays Nanak, I am Your slave. All beings are Yours; You are their Creator. ||2||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
aatth pehar har dhiaaeeai raam |
Meditating on the Lord, twenty-four hours a day,
ਮਨ ਇਛਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
man ichhiarraa fal paaeeai raam |
the fruits of the heart's desires are obtained.
ਮਨ ਇਛ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਾ ॥
man ichh paaeeai prabh dhiaaeeai mitteh jam ke traasaa |
Your heart's desires are obtained, meditating on God, and the fear of death is dispelled.
ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਗਾਇਆ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਭਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
gobid gaaeaa saadh sangaaeaa bhee pooran aasaa |
I sing of the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and my hopes are fulfilled.
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈਐ ॥
taj maan mohu vikaar sagale prabhoo kai man bhaaeeai |
Renouncing egotism, emotional attachment and all corruption, we become pleasing to the Mind of God.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੩॥
binavant naanak dinas rainee sadaa har har dhiaaeeai |3|
Prays Nanak, day and night, meditate forever on the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
ਦਰਿ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਅਨਹਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
dar vaajeh anahat vaaje raam |
At the Lord's Door, the unstruck melody resounds.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਗਾਜੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
ghatt ghatt har gobind gaaje raam |
In each and every heart, the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, sings.
ਗੋਵਿਦ ਗਾਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਊਚਾ ॥
govid gaaje sadaa biraaje agam agochar aoochaa |
The Lord of the Universe sings, and abides forever; He is unfathomable, profoundly deep, lofty and exalted.
ਗੁਣ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਪਹੂਚਾ ॥
gun beant kichh kehan na jaaee koe na sakai pahoochaa |
His virtues are infinite - none of them can be described. No one can reach Him.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
aap upaae aap pratipaale jeea jant sabh saaje |
He Himself creates, and He Himself sustains; all beings and creatures are fashioned by Him.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਵਜਹਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ॥੪॥੩॥
binavant naanak sukh naam bhagatee dar vajeh anahad vaaje |4|3|
Prays Nanak, happiness comes from devotional worship of the Naam; at His Door, the unstruck melody resounds. ||4||3||

dhan sirandaa sachaa paatisaahu jin jag dhandhai laaeaa |
Blessed is the Creator, the True King, who has linked the whole world to its tasks.
ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁਨੀ ਪਾਈ ਭਰੀ ਜਾਨੀਅੜਾ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
muhalat punee paaee bharee jaaneearraa ghat chalaaeaa |
When one's time is up, and the measure is full, this dear soul is caught, and driven off.
ਜਾਨੀ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਇਆ ਰੁੰਨੇ ਵੀਰ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
jaanee ghat chalaaeaa likhiaa aaeaa rune veer sabaae |
This dear soul is driven off, when the pre-ordained Order is received, and all the relatives cry out in mourning.
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਥੀਆ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਜਾਂ ਦਿਨ ਪੁੰਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ॥
kaaneaa hans theea vechhorraa jaan din pune meree maae |
The body and the swan-soul are separated, when one's days are past and done, O my mother.
ਜੇਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੇਹਾ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jehaa likhiaa tehaa paaeaa jehaa purab kamaaeaa |
As is one's pre-ordained Destiny, so does one receive, according to one's past actions.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

saahib simarahu mere bhaaeeho sabhanaa ehu peaanaa |
Meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master, O my Siblings of Destiny; everyone has to pass this way.
ਏਥੈ ਧੰਧਾ ਕੂੜਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾ ਆਗੈ ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
ethai dhandhaa koorraa chaar dihaa aagai sarapar jaanaa |
These false entanglements last for only a few days; then, one must surely move on to the world hereafter.
ਆਗੈ ਸਰਪਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਮਿਹਮਾਣਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਗਾਰਬੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
aagai sarapar jaanaa jiau mihamaanaa kaahe gaarab keejai |
He must surely move on to the world hereafter, like a guest; so why does he indulge in ego?
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
jit seviai daragah sukh paaeeai naam tisai kaa leejai |
Chant the Name of the Lord; serving Him, you shall obtain peace in His Court.
ਆਗੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਮੂਲੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਿਹਾਣਾ ॥
aagai hukam na chalai moole sir sir kiaa vihaanaa |
In the world hereafter, no one's commands will be obeyed. According to their actions, each and every person proceeds.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਮਰਿਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਇਆਣਾ ॥੨॥

Whatever pleases the Almighty Lord, that alone comes to pass; this world is an opportunity to please Him.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਾਚੜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
jal thal maheeal rav rahiaa saacharraa sirajanahaaro |
The True Creator Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the air.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੋ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
saachaa sirajanahaaro alakh apaaro taa kaa ant na paaeaa |
The True Creator Lord is invisible and infinite; His limits cannot be found.
ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
aaeaa tin kaa safal bheaa hai ik man jinee dhiaaeaa |
Fruitful is the coming of those, who meditate single-mindedly on Him.
ਢਾਹੇ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
dtaahe dtaeh usaare aape hukam savaaranahaaro |
He destroys, and having destroyed, He creates; by His Order, He adorns us.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਹੀਲੜਾ ਏਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥੩॥

naanak runaa baabaa jaaneeai je rovai laae piaaro |
Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love.
ਵਾਲੇਵੇ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬਾਬਾ ਰੋਈਐ ਰੋਵਣੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੋ ॥
vaaleve kaaran baabaa roeeai rovan sagal bikaaro |
One who weeps for the sake of worldly objects, O Baba, weeps totally in vain.
ਰੋਵਣੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੋ ਗਾਫਲੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
rovan sagal bikaaro gaafal sansaaro maaeaa kaaran rovai |
This weeping is all in vain; the world forgets the Lord, and weeps for the sake of Maya.
ਚੰਗਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਏਵੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
changaa mandaa kichh soojhai naahee ihu tan evai khovai |
He does not distinguish between good and evil, and wastes away this life in vain.
ਐਥੈ ਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਸੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥
aithai aaeaa sabh ko jaasee koorr karahu ahankaaro |
Everyone who comes here, shall have to leave; to act in ego is false.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੁੰਨਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਰੋਵੈ ਲਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੪॥੧॥
