halee keeyo sanamaan sabh guaarin ko tih samai |
ਹਉ ਕਹਿ ਹਉ ਸੁ ਬਖਾਨਿ ਜਿਉ ਕਥ ਆਗੇ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੫੫॥
hau keh hau su bakhaan jiau kath aage hoe hai |2255|

ਯਾਹੀ ਕੇ ਪੀਵਨ ਕੋ ਮਦਰਾ ਹਿਤ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜਲਾਧਿਪ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
yaahee ke peevan ko madaraa hit sayaam jalaadhip dai kai patthaayo |
Varuna sent wine for his drinking,
ਪੀਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਬ ਸੋ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਮਦਿ ਮਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
peevat bhayo tab so musalee mad mat bhayo man mai sukh paayo |
Drinking with which he became intoxicated
ਨੀਰ ਚਹਿਯੋ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਕੀਯੋ ਮਾਨੁ ਸੁ ਐਚ ਲਈ ਹਲ ਸਿਉ ਕਬਿ ਗਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੫੬॥

Yamuna showed some pride before him, he drew the waters of Yamuna, with his plough.2256

ਲੇਹੁ ਹਲੀ ਤੁਮ ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਹ ਦੋਸ ਦੁਖ ॥

“O Balram! take the water, I see no fault or suffering in doing so
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬਾਤ ਰਨਧੀਰ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੀ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਕੀ ॥੨੨੫੭॥
sunahu baat ranadheer hau cheree jaduraae kee |2257|
But O conqueror of the battlefield! you listen to me, I am only the maid-servant of Krishna.”2257.

ਦੁਇ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਮਾਸ ਰਹੇ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੈਨ ਬਿਦਾ ਚਲਿ ਨੰਦ ਪੈ ਆਏ ॥

Balram stayed there for two months and the went to the abode of Nand and Yashoda
ਫੇਰਿ ਗਏ ਜਸੋਧਾ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਤਾ ਪਗ ਪੈ ਇਹ ਮਾਥ ਛੁਹਾਏ ॥
fer ge jasodhaa hoo ke mandir taa pag pai ih maath chhuhaae |
He put his head on their feet for bidding farewell,
ਮਾਗਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਬਿਦਾ ਤਬ ਸੋਕ ਕੀਯੋ ਦੁਹ ਨੈਨ ਬਹਾਏ ॥
maagat bhayo jab hee su bidaa tab sok keeyo duh nain bahaae |
ਕੀਨੋ ਬਿਦਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਤੁਮ ਯੌ ਕਹੀਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ॥੨੨੫੮॥
keeno bidaa fir yau keh kai tum yau kaheeyo har kiau nahee aae |2258|
And asked for the permission to return, then both of them were filled with tears in sorrow and bidding farewell to him, said, “Ask Krishna, why he has not come himself?”2258.
ਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਜਸੁਧਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਦਾ ਚੜਿ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
nand te lai jasudhaa te bidaa charr sayandan pai balabhadr sidhaayo |
ਲਾਘਤ ਲਾਘਤ ਦੇਸ ਕਈ ਨਗ ਅਉਰ ਨਦੀ ਪੁਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਜਕਾਯੋ ॥
laaghat laaghat des kee nag aaur nadee pur ke nijakaayo |
After saying good-bye to Nand and Yashoda, Balram left on his chariot and going through several countries and crossing rivers and mountains, he reached his own city
ਆ ਪਹੁਚਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਪੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਤੇ ਯੌ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
aa pahuchiyo nrip ke pur ke jan kaahoo te yau har joo sun paayo |
ਆਪ ਹੂੰ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਚੜ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਸੋ ਹੇਤ ਕੈ ਆਗੇ ਹੀ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੨੫੯॥
aap hoon sayandan pai charr kai at bhraat so het kai aage hee aayo |2259|
When Krishna came to know about his arrive, he mounted on his chariot and came to welcome him.2259.

ਅੰਕ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਚੈਨ ॥

ਮਦਰਾ ਪੀਵਤ ਅਤਿ ਹਸਤਿ ਆਏ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਐਨ ॥੨੨੬੦॥
madaraa peevat at hasat aae apune ain |2260|
Both the brothers met one another with great delight and drinking wine and laughing they came to their home.2260.

ਦੂਤ ਸ੍ਰਿਗਾਲ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਹਿ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਿਉ ਕਹਵਾਯੋ ॥
doot srigaal patthiyo har ko keh hau har hau tuhi kiau kahavaayo |
ਭੇਖ ਸੋਊ ਕਰਿ ਦੂਰ ਸਬੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਅਬੈ ਜੋ ਤੈ ਭੇਖ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
bhekh soaoo kar door sabai kab sayaam abai jo tai bhekh banaayo |
Shragaal sent a messenger to Krishna conveying that he himself was Krishna and why did he call himself (Vasudev) Krishna? Whatever guise he had adopted, the same should be abandoned
ਤੈ ਰੇ ਗੁਆਰ ਹੈ ਗੋਕੁਲ ਨਾਥ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਡਰੁ ਤੋਹਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
tai re guaar hai gokul naath kahaavat hai ddar tohi na aayo |
He was only a milkman, why did he not have any fear in calling himself the Lord of Gokul?
ਕੈ ਇਹ ਦੂਤ ਕੋ ਮਾਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨਹੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਉ ਲੀਨੋ ਸਭੈ ਦਲ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੨੬੨॥
kai ih doot ko maan kahiyo nahee pekh hau leeno sabhai dal aayo |2262|
It was also conveyed by the messenger, “Either he should honour the saying or face the attack of the army.”2262.

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਮਾਨੀ ਬਾਤ ਜੋ ਤਿਹ ਦੂਤ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
krisan na maanee baat jo tih doot uchaariyo |
ਕਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਬਾਤ ਪਤਿ ਆਪਨ ਚੜਿ ਆਇਯੋ ॥੨੨੬੩॥
kahee jaae tin baat pat aapan charr aaeiyo |2263|
Krishna did not accept the saying of the messenger and after learning it from the messenger, the king sent his army for attack.2263.

ਕਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਆਦਿਕ ਭੂਪਨ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਗਾਲਹਿ ਸੈਨ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
kaasee ke bhoopat aadik bhoopan ko su srigaaleh sain banaayo |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਇਤੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਸੈਨ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
sree brijanaath itai at hee musaleedhar aadik sain bulaayo |
Taking the king of Keshi and other kings with him, Shragaal gathered his army and on this side Krishna alongwith Balram amassed their forces
ਜਾਦਵ ਅਉਰ ਸਭੈ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਵਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
jaadav aaur sabhai sang lai har so har judh machaavan aayo |
ਆਇ ਦੁਹੂ ਦਿਸ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੬੪॥
aae duhoo dis te pragatte bhatt yau keh kai kab sayaam sunaayo |2264|
Taking other Yadavas alongwith him, Krishna went to fight the battle with Pundrik and in this way, the warriors of both sides confronted one another in the battlefield.2264.
ਸੈਨ ਜਬੈ ਦੁਹੂ ਓਰਨ ਕੀ ਜੁ ਦਈ ਜਬ ਆਪੁਸਿ ਬੀਚ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥
sain jabai duhoo oran kee ju dee jab aapus beech dikhaaee |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਮੇਘ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਦਿਨ ਕੇ ਉਮਡੇ ਦੋਊ ਇਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਜੀਅ ਆਈ ॥
maanahu megh pralai din ke umadde doaoo iau upamaa jeea aaee |
The amassed forces of both sides, looked like the rushing clouds on the doomsday
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਸੈਨ ਤੇ ਸੈਨ ਦੁਹੂ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
baahar hvai brij naaeik sain te sain duhoo ih baat sunaaee |
ਠਾਢੈ ਰਹੈ ਦੋਊ ਸੈਨ ਦੋਊ ਹਮ ਮਾਡਿ ਹੈ ਯਾ ਭੂਅ ਬੀਚ ਲਰਾਈ ॥੨੨੬੫॥
tthaadtai rahai doaoo sain doaoo ham maadd hai yaa bhooa beech laraaee |2265|
Krishna going away form both the forces said in a loud voice, “Let both the armies stay at their places and now we both i.e. I and Pundrik shall fight in this battlefield.”2265.
ਯਾ ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹਾਯੋ ਸੁਨੋ ਸਭ ਮੈਹੋ ਤੇ ਤੈ ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥
yaa ghan sayaam kahaayo suno sabh maiho te tai ghan sayaam kahaayo |
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਸੈਨ ਸ੍ਰਿਗਾਲ ਲੈ ਆਯੋ ਹੈ ਹਉ ਹੂ ਤਬੈ ਦਲੁ ਲੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
yaa te sain srigaal lai aayo hai hau hoo tabai dal lai sang dhaayo |
Krishna said this, “I call myself Ghanshyam, that is the reason why Shragaal has come to attack with his forces
ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਸੈਨ ਲਰੈ ਦੋਊ ਆਪ ਮੈ ਕਉਤੁਕ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਠਾਢਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
kaahe kau sain larai doaoo aap mai kautuk dekhahu tthaadt sunaayo |
“Why should both the forces fight with each other? Let them stand and watch
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਲਰਬੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਹਮਰੋ ਅਰੁ ਯਾਹੀ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਬਨਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੨੬੬॥
sayaam bhanai larabo ran mai hamaro ar yaahee hee ko ban aayo |2266|
It will be appropriate for me and Pundrik to fight.”2266.

If You gave me an empire, then what glory would be in it for me?
ਜੌ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਾਵਹਿ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
jau bheekh mangaaveh ta kiaa ghatt jaaee |1|
If You made me beg for charity, what would it take away from me? ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
toon har bhaj man mere pad nirabaan |
Meditate and vibrate upon the Lord, O my mind, and you shall obtain the state of Nirvaanaa.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਵਨ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bahur na hoe teraa aavan jaan |1| rahaau |
You shall not have to come and go in reincarnation any longer. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਤੈ ਉਪਾਈ ਭਰਮ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
sabh tai upaaee bharam bhulaaee |
You created all, and You lead them astray in doubt.
ਜਿਸ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥
jis toon deveh tiseh bujhaaee |2|
They alone understand, unto whom You give understanding. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
satigur milai ta sahasaa jaaee |
Meeting the True Guru, doubt is dispelled.
ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਪੂਜਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥੩॥
kis hau poojau doojaa nadar na aaee |3|
Who else should I worship? I can see no other. ||3||
ਏਕੈ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਜੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
ekai paathar keejai bhaau |
One stone is lovingly decorated,
ਦੂਜੈ ਪਾਥਰ ਧਰੀਐ ਪਾਉ ॥
doojai paathar dhareeai paau |
while another stone is walked upon.
ਜੇ ਓਹੁ ਦੇਉ ਤ ਓਹੁ ਭੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
je ohu deo ta ohu bhee devaa |
If one is a god, then the other must also be a god.
ਕਹਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

Says Naam Dayv, I serve the Lord. ||4||1||

ਮਲੈ ਨ ਲਾਛੈ ਪਾਰ ਮਲੋ ਪਰਮਲੀਓ ਬੈਠੋ ਰੀ ਆਈ ॥
malai na laachhai paar malo paramaleeo baittho ree aaee |
He does not have even a trace of impurity - He is beyond impurity. He is fragrantly scented - He has come to take His Seat in my mind.
ਆਵਤ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਕਵਨੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਰੀ ਬਾਈ ॥੧॥
aavat kinai na pekhio kavanai jaanai ree baaee |1|
No one saw Him come - who can know Him, O Siblings of Destiny? ||1||
ਕਉਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਿਣਿ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਰਮਈਆ ਆਕੁਲੁ ਰੀ ਬਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaun kahai kin boojheeai rameea aakul ree baaee |1| rahaau |
Who can describe Him? Who can understand Him? The all-pervading Lord has no ancestors, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਉ ਆਕਾਸੈ ਪੰਖੀਅਲੋ ਖੋਜੁ ਨਿਰਖਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
jiau aakaasai pankheealo khoj nirakhio na jaaee |
As the path of a bird's flight across the sky cannot be seen,
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਾਝੈ ਮਾਛਲੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੇਖਣੋ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
jiau jal maajhai maachhalo maarag pekhano na jaaee |2|
and the path of a fish through the water cannot be seen;||2||
ਜਿਉ ਆਕਾਸੈ ਘੜੂਅਲੋ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭਰਿਆ ॥
jiau aakaasai gharrooalo mrig trisanaa bhariaa |
As the mirage leads one to mistake the sky for a pitcher filled with water
ਨਾਮੇ ਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੀਠਲੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੀਨੈ ਜਰਿਆ ॥੩॥੨॥
naame che suaamee beetthalo jin teenai jariaa |3|2|
- so is God, the Lord and Master of Naam Dayv, who fits these three comparisons. ||3||2||

The bumble bee has contaminated the flower, and the fish the water. ||1||
ਮਾਈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਹਾ ਲੈ ਚਰਾਵਉ ॥
maaee gobind poojaa kahaa lai charaavau |
O mother, where shall I find any offering for the Lord's worship?
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਫੂਲੁ ਅਨੂਪੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I cannot find any other flowers worthy of the incomparable Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਲਾਗਰ ਬੇਰ੍ਹੇ ਹੈ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਾ ॥
mailaagar berhe hai bhueiangaa |
The snakes encircle the sandalwood trees.
ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਸਹਿ ਇਕ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
bikh amrit baseh ik sangaa |2|
Poison and nectar dwell there together. ||2||
ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਨਈਬੇਦਹਿ ਬਾਸਾ ॥
dhoop deep neebedeh baasaa |
Even with incense, lamps, offerings of food and fragrant flowers,
ਕੈਸੇ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
kaise pooj kareh teree daasaa |3|
how are Your slaves to worship You? ||3||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਪੂਜ ਚਰਾਵਉ ॥
tan man arpau pooj charaavau |

gur parasaad niranjan paavau |4|
By Guru's Grace, I attain the immaculate Lord. ||4||
ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਆਹਿ ਨ ਤੋਰੀ ॥
poojaa arachaa aaeh na toree |
I cannot worship You, nor offer You flowers.
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਕਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੫॥੧॥
keh ravidaas kavan gat moree |5|1|

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਲਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
antar mal niramal nahee keenaa baahar bhekh udaasee |
You have not cleansed the filth from within yourself, although outwardly, you wear the dress of a renunciate.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੑਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਭਇਆ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ॥੧॥
hiradai kamal ghatt braham na cheenaa kaahe bheaa saniaasee |1|
In the heart-lotus of your self, you have not recognized God - why have you become a Sannyaasee? ||1||
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲੀ ਰੇ ਜੈ ਚੰਦਾ ॥
bharame bhoolee re jai chandaa |
Deluded by doubt, O Jai Chand,
ਨਹੀ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨੑਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nahee nahee cheenaiaa paramaanandaa |1| rahaau |
you have not realized the Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਖਾਇਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਬਧਾਇਆ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਮੁੰਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
ghar ghar khaaeaa pindd badhaaeaa khinthaa mundaa maaeaa |
You eat in each and every house, fattening your body; you wear the patched coat and the ear-rings of the beggar, for the sake of wealth.
ਭੂਮਿ ਮਸਾਣ ਕੀ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
bhoom masaan kee bhasam lagaaee gur bin tat na paaeaa |2|
You apply the ashes of cremation to your body, but without a Guru, you have not found the essence of reality. ||2||
ਕਾਇ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਕਾਇ ਤਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਕਾਇ ਬਿਲੋਵਹੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
kaae japahu re kaae tapahu re kaae bilovahu paanee |
Why bother to chant your spells? Why bother to practice austerities? Why bother to churn water?
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜਿਨੑਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
lakh chauraaseeh jina upaaee so simarahu nirabaanee |3|
Meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa, who has created the 8.4 million species of beings. ||3||
ਕਾਇ ਕਮੰਡਲੁ ਕਾਪੜੀਆ ਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਕਾਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
kaae kamanddal kaaparreea re atthasatth kaae firaahee |
Why bother to carry the water-pot, O saffron-robed Yogi? Why bother to visit the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage?
ਬਦਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਸੁਨੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਕਣ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਹੁ ਕਿ ਪਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੧॥
badat trilochan sun re praanee kan bin gaahu ki paahee |4|1|
Says Trilochan, listen, mortal: you have no corn - what are you trying to thresh? ||4||1||
