KABIT
ਨਾਥ ਹਉ ਤੋ ਨਿਤਾਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਸੋਨੇ ਕੋ ਬਨਾਇ ਸਾਜ ਗਊ ਸਤ ਦੇਤੋ ਦਿਜ ਸੁਤ ਕਉ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
naath hau to nitaaprat sone ko banaae saaj gaoo sat deto dij sut kau bulaae kai |
“O Lord! I always used to give in charity one hundred cows and gold to Brahmins
ਏਕ ਗਊ ਮਿਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰੀ ਗਊਅਨ ਸੋ ਜੋ ਹਉ ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰਬੇ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਤ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
ek gaoo milee meree pun karee gaooan so jo hau pun karabe kau raakhat mangaae kai |
One cow, which had been given in charity mixed in the cows which were to be gifted
ਸੋਊ ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰੀ ਡੀਠ ਤਾਹੀ ਦਿਜ ਪਰੀ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਗਊ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਧਨੁ ਦੈ ਰਹਿਓ ਸੁਨਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
soaoo pun karee ddeetth taahee dij paree kahiyo meree gaoo taa ko dhan dai rahio sunaae kai |
“Then the Brahmin, who had got the cow earlier recognised it and said, ‘You are giving my own wealth to me again
ਵਾ ਨ ਧਨ ਲਯੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੈ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਦਯੋ ਹੋਹੁ ਕਿਰਲਾ ਕੂਆ ਕੋ ਹਉ ਸੁ ਭਯੋ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੨੫੦॥
vaa na dhan layo mohi ihai sraap dayo hohu kiralaa kooaa ko hau su bhayo taa te aae kai |2250|
’ He did not accept the charity and cursed me to become a chameleon and live in a well, in this way I have obtained this state.2250.

ਤੁਮਰੇ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਛੂਅਤ ਅਬ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਸਗਰੇ ਪਾਪ ॥
tumare kar te chhooat ab mitt ge sagare paap |
ਸੋ ਫਲ ਲਹਿਯੋ ਜੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਨ ਮੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਵਤ ਜਾਪ ॥੨੨੫੧॥
so fal lahiyo ju bahut din mun kar paavat jaap |2251|
“Being touched by your hand, all my sins have been destroyed and I have been thus rewarded, which is obtained by sages after recitation of the Name for many days.”2251.

ਗੋਕੁਲ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
gokul kau balibhadr sidhaayo |
After redeeming him, the Lord came to his home and he sent Balram to Gokul
ਆਇ ਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗਿਯੋ ॥
aae nand ke paaein laagiyo |
ਸੁਖੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਸੋਕ ਸਭ ਭਾਗਿਯੋ ॥੨੨੫੨॥
sukh at bhayo sok sabh bhaagiyo |2252|
On arriving at Gokul, he touched the feet of Nand Baba, which gave him extreme comfort and no sorrow was left.2252.

ਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਹਲੀ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਜਸੁਧਾ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
nand ke paaein laag halee chal kai jasudhaa hoon ke mandir aayo |
ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁ ਪਾਇਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਯੋ ॥
dekhat hee tih ko kab sayaam su paaein aoopar sees jhukaayo |
After touching the feet of Nand, Balram reached the place of Yashoda and seeing her, he bowed down his head at her feet
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਲਯੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੋਊ ਯੌ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
kantth lagaae layo kahiyo soaoo yau man mai kab sayaam banaayo |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਲੇਤ ਕਬੈ ਹਮਰੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਮਾਇ ਯੌ ਰੋਇ ਕੈ ਤਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੫੩॥
sayaam joo let kabai hamaree sudh maae yau roe kai taat sunaayo |2253|
The mother hugging the son and crying said, “Krishna has at last thought of us.”2253.

ਗੋਪੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ਇਹ ਠਉਰ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਆਯੋ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਆਯੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਮਾਗ ਸੇਾਂਧੁਰ ਭਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
gopee sun paayo ih tthaur balibhadr aayo sayaam aayo hvai hai maag seaandhur bharat hai |
When the Gopis came to know that Balram has come, they thought that Krishna also might have come and thinking this,
ਬੇਸਰ ਬਿੰਦੂਆ ਤਨਿ ਭੂਖਨ ਬਨਾਇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਚਾਰੁ ਲੋਚਨਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਧਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
besar bindooaa tan bhookhan banaae kab sayaam chaar lochanan anjan dharat hai |
They filled their parting of hair with saffron, they put the frontal mark on their foreheads and wore ornaments and used collyrium in their eyes
ਦਾਮਿਨੀ ਸੀ ਦਮਕ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਨਿਜ ਕਾਇ ਆਇ ਬੂਝੈ ਮਾਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੀ ਨ ਸੰਕਾ ਕੋ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
daaminee see damak dikhaae nij kaae aae boojhai maat bhraat kee na sankaa ko karat hai |
They flashed like lightning and forsaking the shyness of their parents and brothers,
ਦੀਜੈ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੀ ਬਤਾਇ ਸੁਧਿ ਹਾਇ ਹਮੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਲਿਰਾਮ ਹਾ ਹਾ ਪਾਇਨ ਪਰਤ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੫੪॥
deejai ghan sayaam kee bataae sudh haae hamai sayaam baliraam haa haa paaein parat hai |2254|
They fell at the feet of Balram saying, “O Balram! we fall at your feet, tell us something about Krishna.”2254.

Salok, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
raam japahu vaddabhaageeho jal thal pooran soe |
Meditate on the Lord, O fortunate ones; He is pervading the waters and the earth.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak naam dhiaaeiai bighan na laagai koe |1|
O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and no misfortune shall strike you. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥

Millions of misfortunes block the way of one who forgets the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak anadin bilapate jiau sunyai ghar kaau |2|
O Nanak, like a crow in a deserted house, he cries out, night and day. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਿਆ ॥
simar simar daataar manorath pooriaa |
Meditating, meditating in remembrance of the Great Giver, one's heart's desires are fulfilled.
ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਗਏ ਵਿਸੂਰਿਆ ॥
eichh punee man aas ge visooriaa |
The hopes and desires of the mind are realized, and sorrows are forgotten.
ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਲਦਾ ॥
paaeaa naam nidhaan jis no bhaaladaa |
The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained; I have searched for it for so long.
ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਾਲਦਾ ॥
jot milee sang jot rahiaa ghaaladaa |
My light is merged into the Light, and my labors are over.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੁਠੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ॥
sookh sehaj aanand vutthe tith ghar |
I abide in that house of peace, poise and bliss.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਤਹਾ ਮਰਿ ॥
aavan jaan rahe janam na tahaa mar |
My comings and goings have ended - there is no birth or death there.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
saahib sevak ik ik drisattaaeaa |
The Master and the servant have become one, with no sense of separation.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨੧॥੧॥੨॥ ਸੁਧੁ

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਾਵ ਦੁਇ ਸਿੰਗ ਗੁੰਗ ਮੁਖ ਤਬ ਕੈਸੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਈਹੈ ॥
chaar paav due sing gung mukh tab kaise gun geehai |
With four feet, two horns and a mute mouth, how could you sing the Praises of the Lord?
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਠੇਗਾ ਪਰਿਹੈ ਤਬ ਕਤ ਮੂਡ ਲੁਕਈਹੈ ॥੧॥
aootthat baitthat tthegaa parihai tab kat moodd lukeehai |1|
Standing up and sitting down, the stick shall still fall on you, so where will you hide your head? ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੈਲ ਬਿਰਾਨੇ ਹੁਈਹੈ ॥
har bin bail biraane hueehai |
Without the Lord, you are like a stray ox;
ਫਾਟੇ ਨਾਕਨ ਟੂਟੇ ਕਾਧਨ ਕੋਦਉ ਕੋ ਭੁਸੁ ਖਈਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
faatte naakan ttootte kaadhan kodau ko bhus kheehai |1| rahaau |
with your nose torn, and your shoulders injured, you shall have only the straw of coarse grain to eat. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਰੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਬਨ ਮਹੀਆ ਅਜਹੁ ਨ ਪੇਟ ਅਘਈਹੈ ॥
saaro din ddolat ban maheea ajahu na pett agheehai |
All day long, you shall wander in the forest, and even then, your belly will not be full.
ਜਨ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੋ ਕਹੋ ਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਕੀਓ ਅਪਨੋ ਪਈਹੈ ॥੨॥
jan bhagatan ko kaho na maano keeo apano peehai |2|
You did not follow the advice of the humble devotees, and so you shall obtain the fruits of your actions. ||2||
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤ ਮਹਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਬੂਡੋ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮਈਹੈ ॥
dukh sukh karat mahaa bhram booddo anik jon bharameehai |
Enduring pleasure and pain, drowned in the great ocean of doubt, you shall wander in numerous reincarnations.
ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਪਈਹੈ ॥੩॥
ratan janam khoeo prabh bisario ihu aausar kat peehai |3|
You have lost the jewel of human birth by forgetting God; when will you have such an opportunity again? ||3||
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਤੇਲਕ ਕੇ ਕਪਿ ਜਿਉ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਈਹੈ ॥
bhramat firat telak ke kap jiau gat bin rain biheehai |
You turn on the wheel of reincarnation, like an ox at the oil-press; the night of your life passes away without salvation.
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਧੁਨੇ ਪਛੁਤਈਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
kehat kabeer raam naam bin moondd dhune pachhuteehai |4|1|
Says Kabeer, without the Name of the Lord, you shall pound your head, and regret and repent. ||4||1||

Goojaree, Third House:
ਮੁਸਿ ਮੁਸਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਕਬੀਰ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

Kabeer's mother sobs, cries and bewails
ਏ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਰਘੁਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
e baarik kaise jeeveh raghuraaee |1|
- O Lord, how will my grandchildren live? ||1||
ਤਨਨਾ ਬੁਨਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਤਜਿਓ ਹੈ ਕਬੀਰ ॥
tananaa bunanaa sabh tajio hai kabeer |
Kabeer has given up all his spinning and weaving,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਰੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har kaa naam likh leeo sareer |1| rahaau |
and written the Name of the Lord on his body. ||1||Pause||
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਤਾਗਾ ਬਾਹਉ ਬੇਹੀ ॥
jab lag taagaa baahau behee |
As long as I pass the thread through the bobbin,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੨॥
tab lag bisarai raam sanehee |2|
I forget the Lord, my Beloved. ||2||
ਓਛੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ ॥
ochhee mat meree jaat julaahaa |
My intellect is lowly - I am a weaver by birth,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹਿਓ ਮੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੩॥
har kaa naam lahio mai laahaa |3|
but I have earned the profit of the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
kehat kabeer sunahu meree maaee |
Says Kabeer, listen, O my mother
ਹਮਰਾ ਇਨ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਰਘੁਰਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥
hamaraa in kaa daataa ek raghuraaee |4|2|
- the Lord alone is the Provider, for me and my children. ||4||2||
