ਸੋ ਕਰਿਹੋ ਅਬ ਹਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਜੂ ਤੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਨ ਉਚਾਰਤ ਹਉ ॥
so kariho ab hau sun rudr joo to sang bain uchaarat hau |
“O Shiva! listen, I shall do it now
ਬਾਹੈ ਕਟੀ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਲਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਅਬ ਹਉ ਹੂ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਿਵਾਰਤ ਹਉ ॥
baahai kattee tih bhool nihaar ab hau hoo su krodh nivaarat hau |
Seeing his arms cut doen and his erratic behaviour, I relinquish my anger
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕੋ ਪੌਤ੍ਰ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਤ ਹਉ ॥

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਡੰਡ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਛੋਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਇਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਤ ਹਉ ॥੨੨੪੦॥
taa te ddandd hee dai kar chhor dayo ih te naeh taeh sanghaarat hau |2240|
“I also think that he is the son of Prahlad, therefore I release him after punishing him and do not kill him.”2240.
ਯੌ ਬਖਸਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪ ਕੋ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਨ ਡਾਰੋ ॥
yau bakhasaae kai sayaam joo so tih bhoop ko sayaam ke paaein ddaaro |
ਭੂਲ ਕੈ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਅਬ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਤੁਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਿਵਾਰੋ ॥
bhool kai bhoopat kaam kariyo ab he prabh joo tum krodh nivaaro |
In this way, causing the king to accept his mistake, Shiva got him to fall at the feet of Krishna and said, “Sahasrabahu has committed a wrong act, O Lord! forsake your anger
ਪੌਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਕਰੋ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਉਰ ਕਛੂ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੋ ॥
pauatr ko bayaah karo ih kee duhitaa sang aaur kachhoo man mai na bichaaro |
ਯੌ ਕਰਿ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਸੰਗ ਊਖਹ ਲੈ ਅਨਰੁਧ ਕੋ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਧਾਮਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੋ ॥੨੨੪੧॥
yau kar bayaah sang aookhah lai anarudh ko sayaam joo dhaam sidhaaro |2241|
“Now marry your son with his daughter without any thought and taking Usha and Aniruddh with you, go to your home.”2241.
ਜੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਕੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਅਉਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਰੁ ਆਪਨ ਗੈ ਹੈ ॥
jo sun hai gun sayaam joo ke fun aauran te ar aapan gai hai |
He, who will listen to the praises of Krishna from others and also sing himself
ਆਪਨ ਜੋ ਪੜ ਹੈ ਪੜਵਾਇ ਹੈ ਅਉਰ ਕਬਿਤਨ ਬੀਚ ਬਨੈ ਹੈ ॥
aapan jo parr hai parravaae hai aaur kabitan beech banai hai |
He, who will read about his virtues, and cause others to read the same and sing in verse
ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਧਾਮ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
sovat jaagat dhaavat dhaam su sree brij naaeik kee sudh lai hai |
ਸੋਊ ਸਦਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਯਾ ਭਵ ਭੀਤਰ ਫੇਰਿ ਨ ਐ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੪੨॥
soaoo sadaa kab sayaam bhanai fun yaa bhav bheetar fer na ai hai |2242|
He, who will remember him, while sleeping, waking and moving, he will never be born again in this ocean of Samsara.2242.

There was a Kshatriya king named Dig, who was born as a chameleon
ਸਭ ਜਾਦਵ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੇਲਨ ਆਏ ॥

ਪ︀ਯਾਸੇ ਭਏ ਕੂਪ ਪਿਖਿ ਧਾਏ ॥੨੨੪੩॥

When all the Yadavas were playing, then being thirsty, they came to a well.2243.
ਇਕ ਕਿਰਲਾ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਕਾਢੈ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kaadtai yaa ko ihai bichaariyo |
Seeing a chameleon in the well, they all thought of taking it out
ਕਾਢਨ ਲਗੇ ਨ ਕਾਢਿਯੋ ਗਯੋ ॥
kaadtan lage na kaadtiyo gayo |
ਅਤਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਸਭਹਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਭਯੋ ॥੨੨੪੪॥
at asacharaj sabhahin man bhayo |2244|
They made efforts, but noticing thief failure, they all felt amazed.2244.

Thinking about this, all of them, came to Krishna and said, “There is a chameleon in the well
ਕਹਿ ਕਿਰਲਾ ਇਕ ਕੂਪ ਮੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਰਹੁ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੨੨੪੫॥

Adopt some measure and take it out.”2245.

ਸੁਨਤ ਹੀ ਬਾਤੈ ਸਭ ਜਾਦਵ ਕੀ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਸਭ ਭੇਦ ਕਹੀ ਬਾਤ ਮੁਸਕਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
sunat hee baatai sabh jaadav kee jaduraae jaanio sabh bhed kahee baat musakaae kai |
Hearing the world of Yadavas, and understanding the whole mystery,
ਕਹਾ ਵਹ ਕੂਪ ਕਹਾ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ਕਿਰਲਾ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਬੋਲਤ ਭਯੋ ਯੌ ਮੁਹ ਦੀਜੀਐ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
kahaa veh koop kahaa pario hai kiralaa taa mai bolat bhayo yau muh deejeeai dikhaae kai |
Krishna said smilingly, “Where is that well, show it to me.”
ਆਗੇ ਆਗੇ ਸੋਊ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਛੇ ਪਾਛੈ ਚਲਤ ਚਲਤ ਜੋ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ਸੋਊ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
aage aage soaoo ghan sayaam tin paachhe paachhai chalat chalat jo nihaariyo soaoo jaae kai |
The Yadavas led and Krishna followed and reaching there he saw in the well
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਪਾਪ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਏਕੋ ਨ ਰਹਨ ਪਾਏ ਭਯੋ ਨਰ ਜਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਹੈ ਉਠਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੨੪੬॥
mitt ge paap taa ke eko na rehan paae bhayo nar jabai har leeno hai utthaae kai |2246|
When Krishna caught that chameleon, all its sins ended and it was transformed into a man.2246.

ਤਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਮੋਛ ਭਈ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਜਿਨ ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਧ੍ਰਯਾਯੋ ॥
taahee kee mochh bhee chhin mai jin ek gharee ghan sayaam joo dhrayaayo |
He, who remembered Krihsna for an instant, he was redeemed
ਅਉਰ ਤਰੀ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਜਿਹ ਹਾਥ ਲਯੋ ਸੁਕ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪੜਾਯੋ ॥
aaur taree ganikaa tab hee jih haath layo suk sayaam parraayo |
Instructing the parrot, Ganika obtained salvation
ਕੋ ਨ ਤਰਿਯੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਨਰ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਰਾਇਨ ਕੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਯੋ ॥
ko na tariyo jag mai nar jaeh naraaein ko chit naam basaayo |
Who is there such an individual, who has remembered the Lord (Narayana) and did not ferry across the world-ocean
ਏਤੇ ਪੈ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਤਰੈ ਕਿਰਲਾ ਜਿਹ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਨ ਹਾਥ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੪੭॥
ete pai kiau na tarai kiralaa jih ko har aapan haath lagaayo |2247|
Then this chameleon, which was thouched by Krishna, why it should not be redeemed?247.

Take away my sexual desire, anger, pride, greed, emotional attachment and evil desires.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
raakh lehu prabh aapane naanak sad balihaar |1|
Protect me, O my God; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||1||

By eating and eating, the mouth is worn out; by wearing clothes, the limbs grow weary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਸਚਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੨॥

O Nanak, cursed are the lives of those who are not attuned to the Love of the True Lord. ||2||

As is the Hukam of Your Command, so do things happen.
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਰਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ਖੜੋਵਣਾ ॥
jeh jeh rakheh aap teh jaae kharrovanaa |
Wherever You keep me, there I go and stand.
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੈ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਧੋਵਣਾ ॥
naam terai kai rang duramat dhovanaa |
With the Love of Your Name, I wash away my evil-mindedness.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਵਣਾ ॥
jap jap tudh nirankaar bharam bhau khovanaa |
By continually meditating on You, O Formless Lord, my doubts and fears are dispelled.
ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਜੋਵਣਾ ॥
jo terai rang rate se jon na jovanaa |
Those who are attuned to Your Love, shall not be trapped in reincarnation.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਵਣਾ ॥
antar baahar ik nain alovanaa |
Inwardly and outwardly, they behold the One Lord with their eyes.
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਰੋਵਣਾ ॥
jinaee pachhaataa hukam tina kade na rovanaa |
Those who recognize the Lord's Command never weep.
ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਰੋਵਣਾ ॥੧੮॥
naau naanak bakhasees man maeh parovanaa |18|
O Nanak, they are blessed with the gift of the Name, woven into the fabric of their minds. ||18||

ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਮੁਆ ਰਲੰਦੜੋ ਖਾਕ ॥

Those who do not remember the Lord while they are alive, shall mix with the dust when they die.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਦਾਰਿਆ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਨਪਾਕ ॥੧॥
naanak duneea sang gudaariaa saakat moorr napaak |1|
O Nanak, the foolish and filthy faithless cynic passes his life engrossed in the world. ||1||

One who remembers the Lord while he is alive, shall be imbued with the Lord's Love when he dies.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
janam padaarath taariaa naanak saadhoo sang |2|
The precious gift of his life is redeemed, O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||

ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
sach naam karataar sach pasaariaa |
True is Your Name, O Creator Lord, and True is Your Creation.
ਊਣਾ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਘਟੇ ਘਟਿ ਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
aoonaa kahee na hoe ghatte ghatt saariaa |
You do not lack anything; You are filling each and every heart.
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥
miharavaan samarath aape hee ghaaliaa |
You are merciful and all-powerful; You Yourself cause us to serve You.
ਜਿਨੑ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
jina man vutthaa aap se sadaa sukhaaliaa |
Those whose minds in which You dwell are forever at peace.
ਆਪੇ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਿਆ ॥
aape rachan rachaae aape hee paaliaa |
Having created the creation, You Yourself cherish it.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰਿਆ ॥
sabh kichh aape aap beant apaariaa |
You Yourself are everything, O infinite, endless Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਮੑਾਲਿਆ ॥੧੯॥

In the beginning, in the middle and in the end, the Transcendent Lord has saved me.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਖਿਆ ॥

The True Guru has blessed me with the Lord's Name, and I have tasted the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਾਧਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ॥
saadhaa sang apaar anadin har gun ravai |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day.
ਪਾਏ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਭਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਨਹ ਭਵੈ ॥
paae manorath sabh jonee neh bhavai |
I have obtained all my objectives, and I shall not wander in reincarnation again.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਥਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਜੋ ਕਰੈ ॥
sabh kichh karate hath kaaran jo karai |
Everything is in the Hands of the Creator; He does what is done.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੰਤਾ ਧੂਰਿ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥
naanak mangai daan santaa dhoor tarai |1|
Nanak begs for the gift of the dust of the feet of the Holy, which shall deliver him. ||1||

ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਖਸਮੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin jan dhiaaeaa khasam tin sukh paaeaa |
Whoever meditates on the Lord and Master obtains peace.
ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
safal janam paravaan guramukh aaeaa |
Fruitful is the birth, and approved is the coming of the Gurmukh.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਖਸਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
hukamai bujh nihaal khasam furamaaeaa |
One who realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command shall be blessed - so has the Lord and Master ordained.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੁ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
jis hoaa aap kripaal su neh bharamaaeaa |
One who is blessed with the Lord's Mercy does not wander.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦਿਤਾ ਖਸਮਿ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jo jo ditaa khasam soee sukh paaeaa |
Whatever the Lord and Master gives him, with that he is content.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਿਤ ॥
naanak jiseh deaal bujhaae hukam mit |
O Nanak, one who is blessed with the kindness of the Lord, our Friend, realizes the Hukam of His Command.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਨਿਤ ॥੨॥
jiseh bhulaae aap mar mar jameh nit |2|
But those whom the Lord Himself causes to wander, continue to die, and take reincarnation again. ||2||

ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਤਕਾਲਿ ਖਿਨੁ ਟਿਕਣ ਨ ਦਿਤੇ ॥
nindak maare tatakaal khin ttikan na dite |
The slanderers are destroyed in an instant; they are not spared for even a moment.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਖਵਿ ਸਕਹਿ ਫੜਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੁਤੇ ॥
prabh daas kaa dukh na khav sakeh farr jonee jute |
God will not endure the sufferings of His slaves, but catching the slanderers, He binds them to the cycle of reincarnation.
ਮਥੇ ਵਾਲਿ ਪਛਾੜਿਅਨੁ ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੁਤੇ ॥
mathe vaal pachhaarrian jam maarag mute |
Grabbing them by the hair on their heads, the Lord throws them down, and leaves them on the path of Death.
ਦੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਣਿਆ ਨਰਕਿ ਘੋਰਿ ਸੁਤੇ ॥
dukh lagai bilalaaniaa narak ghor sute |
They cry out in pain, in the darkest of hells.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਦਾਸ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਤੇ ॥੨੦॥
kantth laae daas rakhian naanak har sate |20|
But hugging His slaves close to His Heart, O Nanak, the True Lord saves them. ||20||
