ਸੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਹਨੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਤੋ ਊ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
sain nihaar hanee aganee sun saato aoo bhraatar krodh bhare |
ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਪੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਸਭ ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਲੈ ਕਿਲਕਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
ghan sayaam joo pai kab sayaam bhanai sabh sasatran lai kilakaar pare |
Seeing the destruction of their army, the seven brothers got enraged and taking up their weapons and challenging Krishna fell upon him
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਘੇਰਤ ਭੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਡਰੇ ॥
chahoon or te gherat bhe har ko apane man mai na ratee ku ddare |
ਤਬ ਲਉ ਜਬ ਲਉ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਖੰਡਨ ਖੰਡ ਕਰੇ ॥੨੧੨੮॥
tab lau jab lau jadubeer saraasan lai nahee khanddan khandd kare |2128|
They surrounded Krishna fearlessly from all the four sides and fought till the time when Krishna taking his bow in his hand chopped all of them into fragments.2128.

ਤਬ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਲੈ ਅਤਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
tab kar saaring sayaam lai at chit krodh badtaae |
ਪੀਟਿ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਭਯਨ ਸਹਿਤ ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੨੧੨੯॥
peett satr bhayan sahit jamapur dayo patthaae |2129|
Then Krishna in extreme rage took his bow in his hand and sent the enemies alongwith all the brothers to the abode of Yama.2129.

ਭੂਅ ਬਾਲਕ ਤੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਮੁਰ ਬੀਰ ਸੁਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਖਪਾਯੋ ॥
bhooa baalak to ih bhaat suniyo mur beer suputr muraar khapaayo |
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੋ ਦਲ ਗਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਸੋਊ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਜਮ ਲੋਕ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
aaur jito dal gayo tin so su soaoo chhin mai jam lok patthaayo |
When Bhumasura came to know that Krishna has killed the demon Mur and has also destroyed all his army in an instant,
ਯਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੂਝ ਕੀ ਲਾਇਕ ਹਉ ਹੀ ਹੌਂ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
yaa sang joojh kee laaeik hau hee hauan yau keh kai chit krodh badtaayo |
ਸੈਨ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੋ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੩੦॥
sain bulaae sabhai apunee jadubeer so kaaran judh ko dhaayo |2130|
Then thinking of Krishna as a brave fighter, he got infuriated in his mind and marched forward to fight with Krishna.2130.
ਜਬ ਭੂਮਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਰਕ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਕਉਚ ਸੁ ਸੂਰਨ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
jab bhoom ko baarak judh ke kaaj charriyo tab kauch su sooran saaje |
While attacking, Bhumasura began to thunder like warriors
ਆਯੁਧ ਅਉਰ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਸਭੈ ਅਰਿ ਘੇਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਗਾਜੇ ॥
aayudh aaur sanbhaar sabhai ar gher layo brij naaeik gaaje |
He held up his weapons and surrounded his enemy Krishna
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਦਿਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਯੋ ਘਨ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ॥
maanahu kaal pralai din ko pragattiyo ghan hee ih bhaat biraaje |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਅੰਤਕ ਕੇ ਪੁਰ ਮੈ ਭਟਵਾ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਜੇ ॥੨੧੩੧॥
maanahu antak ke pur mai bhattavaa neh baajat hai jan baaje |2131|
He looked like the doomsday cloud and was thundering in this way as if musical instruments were being playing in the region of Yama.2131.
ਅਰਿ ਸੈਨ ਜਬੈ ਘਨ ਜਿਉ ਉਮਡਿਓ ਪੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਚਿਤੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
ar sain jabai ghan jiau umaddio pun sree brijanaath chitai chit jaaniyo |
ਅਉਰ ਭੂਮਾਸੁਰ ਭੂਮ ਕੋ ਬਾਰਕ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਇਨ ਕਉ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
aaur bhoomaasur bhoom ko baarak bhoopat hai in kau pahichaaniyo |
When the enemy’s army rushed forth like clouds, then Krishna thought in his mind and recognized Bhumasura, the son of the earth
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਨੀਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਮਡਿਯੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
maanahu ant samai nidh neer hee hai umaddiyo kab sayaam bakhaaniyo |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਹੇਰਿ ਤਿਨੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਭੀਤਰ ਨੈਕੁ ਨਹੀ ਡਰੁ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੩੨॥
sayaam joo her tine apane chit bheetar naik nahee ddar maaniyo |2132|
It appeared that on the doomsday the ocean was surging forth, but Krishna did not fear even slightly on seeing Bhumasura.2132.
ਅਰਿ ਪੁੰਜ ਗਇੰਦਨ ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਲਸੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਿਹ ਲੋਕ ਫਟਾ ॥
ar punj geindan mai dhan taeh lasai sabh hee jih lok fattaa |
Amongst the gathering of elephants of the enemy’s army, Krishna looked splendid like the bow of Indra
ਬਕ ਕੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਬਿਨਾਸ ਕੀਆ ਮੁਰ ਕੋ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਜਿਹ ਮੁੰਡ ਕਟਾ ॥
bak ko jin kop binaas keea mur ko chhin mai jih mundd kattaa |
Krishna had also destroyed Bakasura and chopped the head of Mur in an instant:
ਮਦ ਮਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਦਲ ਆਵਤ ਯੌ ਜਿਮ ਜੋਰ ਕੈ ਆਵਤ ਮੇਘ ਘਟਾ ॥
mad mat karee dal aavat yau jim jor kai aavat megh ghattaa |
ਤਿਨ ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੀ ਯੌ ਚਮਕੈ ਜਿਮ ਅਭ੍ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਬਿਜੁ ਛਟਾ ॥੨੧੩੩॥
tin mai dhan sayaam kee yau chamakai jim abhran bheetar bij chhattaa |2133|
From the frontal side, the group of elephants was rushing forth like the clouds and wihting them the bow of Krishna was shining like lightning among the clouds.2133.
ਬਹੁ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਹਨੇ ਭਟਵਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਇ ਚਪੇਟਨ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
bahu chakr ke sang hane bhattavaa bahute prabh dhaae chapettan maare |
He killed many warriors with his discus and many other by direct blows
ਏਕ ਗਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਧਾਇ ਹਨੇ ਗਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੇ ਬਹੁਰੇ ਨ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥
ek gadaa hee so dhaae hane gir bhoom pare bahure na sanbhaare |
Many were killed with the mace and thrown down on the ground and they could not control themselves again
ਏਕ ਕਟੇ ਕਰਵਾਰਿਨ ਸੋ ਅਧ ਬੀਚ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਰੇ ਭਟ ਨਿਆਰੇ ॥
ek katte karavaarin so adh beech te hoe pare bhatt niaare |
ਮਾਨੋ ਤਖਾਨਨ ਕਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਕਟਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਵਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੨੧੩੪॥
maano takhaanan kaanan mai katt kai karavatran so drum ddaare |2134|
Many warriors were chopped into half with the sword and were lying down like the trees chopped by the carpenter in the forest.2134.
ਏਕ ਪਰੇ ਭਟ ਜੂਝ ਧਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਧਾਏ ॥
ek pare bhatt joojh dharaa ik dekh dasaa tih saamuhe dhaae |
Some warriors were dead and lying down on the earth and many warrior seeing their such plight came forward
ਨੈਕੁ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਧਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਢਾਏ ॥
naik na traas dhare chit mai kab sayaam bhanai nahee traas badtaae |
They were all completely fearless and placing their shield before their faces,
ਦੈ ਮੁਖ ਢਾਲ ਲੀਏ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਦੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੈ ਊਪਰ ਆਏ ॥
dai mukh dtaal lee karavaar nisank dai sayaam kai aoopar aae |
And taking their swords in their hands, they fell upon Krishna
ਤੇ ਸਰ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਹਨਿ ਅੰਤਕ ਕੇ ਪੁਰ ਬੀਚ ਪਠਾਏ ॥੨੧੩੫॥
te sar ek hee so prabh joo han antak ke pur beech patthaae |2135|
Only with a single arrow Krishna despatched them all to the abode of Yama.2135.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਜਬੈ ਰਿਸ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਭਟਵਾ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
sree jadubeer jabai ris so sabh hee bhattavaa jamalok patthaae |
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਭਟ ਜੀਤ ਬਚੇ ਇਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ਡਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਪਰਾਏ ॥
aaur jite bhatt jeet bache in dekh dasaa ddar kai su paraae |
When in his fury, Krishna killed all the warriors and those who had survived, seeing such a situation, fled away
ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਧਾਇ ਗਏ ਬਧਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਏ ॥
je har aoopar dhaae ge badhabe kahu te fir jeet na aae |
Those who fell upon Krishna in order to kill him, they could not return alive
ਐਸੋ ਉਘਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੀਸ ਢੁਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਪਹਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੌ ਧਾਏ ॥੨੧੩੬॥
aiso ughaae kai sees dturaae kai aapeh bhoopat judh kau dhaae |2136|
In this way, in various groups, and moving their heads, the king went to wage war.2136.
ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਆਵਤ ਭੂਪ ਜਬੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਆਪਨੇ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
judh ko aavat bhoop jabai brij naaeik aapane nain nihaariyo |
ਠਾਢਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਤਉਨ ਧਰਾ ਪਰ ਆਗੇ ਹੀ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tthaadt rahiyo neh taun dharaa par aage hee judh ko aap sidhaariyo |
When Krishna saw the king coming to the battlefield, he also did not stay there, but marched forward for fighting
ਮਾਰਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਕੌ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਰਹੁ ਠਾਢ ਅਰੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
maarat hau tum kau ab hee rahu tthaadt are ih bhaat uchaariyo |
He said, “O king! stay there, I shall kill you now
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਕੋ ਤਨਿ ਕੈ ਸਰ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੩੭॥
yau keh kai pun saarang ko tan kai sar satr hridai meh maariyo |2137|
” Saying this and pulling his bow, he discharged an arrow into the heart of the enemy.2137.
ਸਾਰੰਗ ਤਾਨਿ ਜਬੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਤੀਛਨ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
saarang taan jabai ar ko brij naaeik teechhan baan chalaayo |
ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਗਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਭੂਮਾਸੁਰ ਝੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
laagat hee gir bhoom bhoomaasur jhoom pariyo jamalok sidhaayo |
When pulling his bow, Krishna discharged his sharp arrow, then being hit by the arrow, Bhumasura swung and fell down on the ground and went to the abode of Yama
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਤਾ ਸਰ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਸੌ ਪਾਰ ਪਰਾਯੋ ॥
sraun lagiyo neh taa sar ko ih bhaat chalaakee sau paar paraayo |
ਜੋਗ ਕੇ ਸਾਧਕ ਜਿਉ ਤਨ ਤਿਯਾਗਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਨਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੩੮॥
jog ke saadhak jiau tan tiyaag chaliyo nabh paap na bhettan paayo |2138|
The arrow penetrated through his body with such swiftness that even the blood could not smear it and he like the one engaged in Yogic discipline, abandoned his body and sins, went away to heaven.2138.

Third Mehl:
ਏਕੋ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
eko nihachal naam dhan hor dhan aavai jaae |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the only permanent wealth; all other wealth comes and goes.
ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਉ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਨਾ ਓਚਕਾ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
eis dhan kau tasakar johi na sakee naa ochakaa lai jaae |
Thieves cannot steal this wealth, nor can robbers take it away.
ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜੀਐ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਜੀਐ ਨਾਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
eihu har dhan jeeai setee rav rahiaa jeeai naale jaae |
This wealth of the Lord is embedded in the soul, and with the soul, it shall depart.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
poore gur te paaeeai manamukh palai na paae |
It is obtained from the Perfect Guru; the self-willed manmukhs do not receive it.
ਧਨੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
dhan vaapaaree naanakaa jinaa naam dhan khattiaa aae |2|
Blessed are the traders, O Nanak, who have come to earn the wealth of the Naam. ||2||

ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਸਚੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥

My Master is so very great, true, profound and unfathomable.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਚੀਰਾ ॥
sabh jag tis kai vas hai sabh tis kaa cheeraa |
The whole world is under His power; everything is the projection of Him.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
gur parasaadee paaeeai nihachal dhan dheeraa |
By Guru's Grace, the eternal wealth is obtained, bringing peace and patience to the mind.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭੇਟੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ॥
kirapaa te har man vasai bhettai gur sooraa |
By His Grace, the Lord dwells in the mind, and one meets the Brave Guru.
ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੭॥
gunavantee saalaahiaa sadaa thir nihachal har pooraa |7|
The virtuous praise the ever-stable, permanent, perfect Lord. ||7||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਦੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
dhrig tinaa daa jeeviaa jo har sukh parahar tiaagade dukh haumai paap kamaae |
Cursed is the life of those who forsake and throw away the peace of the Lord's Name, and suffer pain instead by practicing ego and sin.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਤਿਨੑ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
manamukh agiaanee maaeaa mohi viaape tina boojh na kaaee paae |
The ignorant self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in the love of Maya; they have no understanding at all.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਓਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥
halat palat oe sukh na paaveh ant ge pachhutaae |
In this world and in the world beyond, they do not find peace; in the end, they depart regretting and repenting.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur parasaadee ko naam dhiaae tis haumai vichahu jaae |
By Guru's Grace, one may meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and egotism departs from within him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਆਇ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak jis poorab hovai likhiaa so gur charanee aae paae |1|
O Nanak, one who has such pre-ordained destiny, comes and falls at the Guru's Feet. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਊਧਾ ਕਉਲੁ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਨਾਉ ॥
manamukh aoodhaa kaul hai naa tis bhagat na naau |
The self-willed manmukh is like the inverted lotus; he has neither devotional worship, nor the Lord's Name.
ਸਕਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਉਪਾਉ ॥
sakatee andar varatadaa koorr tis kaa hai upaau |
He remains engrossed in material wealth, and his efforts are false.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਭਿਜਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਫੀਕਾ ਆਲਾਉ ॥
tis kaa andar chit na bhijee mukh feekaa aalaau |
His consciousness is not softened within, and the words from his mouth are insipid.
ਓਇ ਧਰਮਿ ਰਲਾਏ ਨਾ ਰਲਨੑਿ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
oe dharam ralaae naa ralana onaa andar koorr suaau |
He does not mingle with the righteous; within him are falsehood and selfishness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੈ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak karatai banat banaaee manamukh koorr bol bol ddube guramukh tare jap har naau |2|
O Nanak, the Creator Lord has arranged things, so that the self-willed manmukhs are drowned by telling lies, while the Gurmukhs are saved by chanting the Lord's Name. ||2||

Pauree:
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਵਡਾ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥
bin boojhe vaddaa fer peaa fir aavai jaaee |
Without understanding, one must wander around the cycle of reincarnation, and continue coming and going.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨ ਕੀਤੀਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥
satigur kee sevaa na keeteea ant geaa pachhutaaee |
One who has not served the True Guru, shall depart regretting and repenting in the end.
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
aapanee kirapaa kare gur paaeeai vichahu aap gavaaee |
But if the Lord shows His Mercy, one finds the Guru, and ego is banished from within.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
trisanaa bhukh vichahu utarai sukh vasai man aaee |
Hunger and thirst depart from within, and peace comes to dwell in the mind.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੮॥
sadaa sadaa saalaaheeai hiradai liv laaee |8|
Forever and ever, praise Him with love in your heart. ||8||

Salok, Third Mehl:
ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਪੂਜੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
ji satigur seve aapanaa tis no pooje sabh koe |
One who serves his True Guru, is worshipped by everyone.
ਸਭਨਾ ਉਪਾਵਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਉਪਾਉ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabhanaa upaavaa sir upaau hai har naam paraapat hoe |
Of all efforts, the supreme effort is the attainment of the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
antar seetal saat vasai jap hiradai sadaa sukh hoe |
Peace and tranquility come to dwell within the mind; meditating within the heart, there comes a lasting peace.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
amrit khaanaa amrit painanaa naanak naam vaddaaee hoe |1|
The Ambrosial Amrit is his food, and the Ambrosial Amrit is his clothes; O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, greatness is obtained. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਏ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
e man gur kee sikh sun har paaveh gunee nidhaan |
O mind, listen to the Guru's Teachings, and you shall obtain the treasure of virtue.
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
har sukhadaataa man vasai haumai jaae gumaan |
The Lord, the Giver of peace, shall dwell in your mind, and your egotism and pride shall depart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥
naanak nadaree paaeeai taa anadin laagai dhiaan |2|
O Nanak, when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then, night and day, one centers his meditation on the Lord. ||2||
