ਅਰੇ ਦੁਰਗ ਪਤਿ ਦੁਰਗ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਕਹਾ ਛਪ ਬੀਚ ॥

ਰਿਸਿ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਰਨ ਮਾਡ ਤੁਹਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਤ ਮੀਚ ॥੨੧੨੨॥
ris ham so ran maadd tuhi tthaadt pukaarat meech |2122|
“O, the Lord of citadel! where are you hiding yourself? You have called your death by waging war with us.”2122.

SWAYYA
ਜਉ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਦੁਨੰਦਨ ਤਉ ਉਹ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਕੋਊ ਆਯੋ ॥
jau ih bhaat kahiyo jadunandan tau uh satr lakhiyo koaoo aayo |
When Krishna said this, he saw with this that a weapon had come and with one blow it has killed many
ਅਉਰ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਚੋਟ ਸੋ ਕੋਟਨ ਕੋਪ ਚਟਾਕ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
aaur suniyo jih ek hee chott so kottan kop chattaak giraayo |
In that citadel surrounded by water,
ਬਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੋਟ ਬਿਖੈ ਮੁਰ ਦੈਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੋਰ ਸੋਊ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
baar ke kott bikhai mur dait huto sun sor soaoo utth dhaayo |
A demon named Mur, resided, who listening to the din, came out for fighting
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਕੋਪਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਘਾਵ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੨੩॥
sayaam ke baahan ko tin kop trisool kai aae kai ghaav chalaayo |2123|
On coming, he wounded the vehicle of Krishna with his trident.2123.
ਸੋ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਨ ਚੋਟ ਗਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਦਉਰਿ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕੋ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
so khagaraaj na chott ganee tin daur gadaa geh kaanrah ko maaree |
ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਸਿਰ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਚੋਟ ਚਿਤੈ ਇਮ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਜਨਾਥ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
aavat hai sir saamuhe chott chitai im sree bijanaath bichaaree |
Garuda did not feel a significant blow, but now Mur, pulling his mace, struck Krishna, Krishna saw towards the attack on his head,
ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਇ ਤਬੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੁ ਕਮੋਦਕੀ ਹਾਥ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਸੰਭਾਰੀ ॥
kop badtaae tabai apune su kamodakee haath ke beech sanbhaaree |
ਚੋਟ ਜੁ ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਅਰਿ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਏਕਹਿ ਚੋਟਿ ਚਟਾਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥੨੧੨੪॥
chott ju aavat hee ar kee ih ekeh chott chattaak nivaaree |2124|
And held in his hand his mace named Kumodki and with one blow intercepted the attack of the enemy.2124.
ਘਾਵ ਬਿਅਰਥ ਗਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਗਾਜ ਕੈ ਰਾਛਸ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
ghaav biarath gayo jab hee tab gaaj kai raachhas kop badtaayo |
When the blow did not hit the target, the demon began to roar in rage
ਦੇਹ ਬਢਾਇ ਬਢਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਨਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕਾਰਨ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
deh badtaae badtaae kai aanan sayaam joo ke badh kaaran dhaayo |
He extended his body and face and advanced forward in order to kill Krishna
ਨੰਦਗ ਕਾਢਿ ਤਬੈ ਕਟਿ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਤਬੈ ਤਕਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
nandag kaadt tabai katt te brijanaath tabai tak taeh chalaayo |
ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁਮ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਕਟੈ ਘਟਿ ਕੋ ਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਿਰ ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਟ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੨੫॥
jaise kumrahaar kattai ghatt ko ar ko sir taise hee kaatt giraayo |2125|
Krishan took out his sword named Nandak from his waist and struck the blow on the demon, removed his head like the potter chopping the pitcher from the wheel.2125.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਮੁਰ ਦੈਤ ਬਧਹ ॥

ਮੁਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਜਬੈ ਅਸਿ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਬੈ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
mur maar muraar jabai as siau tih praan tabai jamalok patthaae |
Krishna killed and despatched the demon Mur to the abode of Yama
ਬਾਲ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਏ ॥
baal kamaan kripaanan so kab sayaam kahai at judh machaae |
And waged a dreadful war with bow, arrows and sword,
ਥੋ ਸੁ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਜਿਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਯੌ ਮੁਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮਹਿ ਘਾਏ ॥
tho su kuttanb jito tih ko su suniyo tih yau mur sayaameh ghaae |
ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੀ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਘਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਤ ਹੀ ਧਾਏ ॥੨੧੨੬॥
lai ke anee chaturang ghanee har pai tih ke sut saat hee dhaae |2126|
The family of Mur came to know that he has been killed by Krishna, hearing this, the seven, sons of Mur, taking the fourfold army with them moved to kill Krishna.2126
ਘੇਰਿ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੌ ਤਿਹ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਤਕਿ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
gher daso dis te har kau tih sayaam bhanai tak baan prahaare |
They surrounded Krishna from all the ten directions and showered arrows
ਏਕ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਹਾਥਨ ਬੀਚ ਭਿਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਫੁਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
ek gadaa geh haathan beech bhire man ko fun traas nivaare |
And taking maces in their hands they all fearlessly fell upon Krishna
ਸੋ ਸਭ ਆਯੁਧ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਜੋ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਿਸਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥
so sabh aayudh sayaam sahaar kai jo apune ris sasatr sanbhaare |
ਸੂਰ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਛੋਰਤ ਭਯੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਜੇ ਪੁਰਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੨੧੨੭॥
soor na kaahoon ko chhorat bhayo sabh hee puraje puraje kar ddaare |2127|
Enduring the blow of their weapons, when Krishna in fury held up his own weapons, then as a warrior he did not let anyone go away and chopped all of them into bits.2127.

Pauree:
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
prabh sansaar upaae kai vas aapanai keetaa |
God created the Universe, and He keeps it under His power.
ਗਣਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮੀਤਾ ॥
ganatai prabhoo na paaeeai doojai bharameetaa |
God cannot be obtained by counting; the mortal wanders in doubt.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮੀਤਾ ॥
satigur miliai jeevat marai bujh sach sameetaa |
Meeting the True Guru, one remains dead while yet alive; understanding Him, he is absorbed in the Truth.
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲੀਤਾ ॥
sabade haumai khoeeai har mel mileetaa |
Through the Word of the Shabad, egotism is eradicated, and one is united in the Lord's Union.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਗਸੀਤਾ ॥੪॥
sabh kichh jaanai kare aap aape vigaseetaa |4|
He knows everything, and Himself does everything; beholding His Creation, He rejoices. ||4||

Salok, Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
satigur siau chit na laaeo naam na vasio man aae |
One who has not focused his consciousness on the True Guru, and into whose mind the Naam does not come
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਇਵੇਹਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਇ ॥
dhrig ivehaa jeeviaa kiaa jug meh paaeaa aae |
cursed is such a life. What has he gained by coming into the world?
ਮਾਇਆ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਚਸੇ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
maaeaa khottee raas hai ek chase meh paaj leh jaae |
Maya is false capital; in an instant, its false covering falls off.
ਹਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਤਨੁ ਸਿਆਹੁ ਹੋਇ ਬਦਨੁ ਜਾਇ ਕੁਮਲਾਇ ॥
hathahu chhurrakee tan siaahu hoe badan jaae kumalaae |
When it slips from his hand, his body turns black, and his face withers away.
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
jin satigur siau chit laaeaa tina sukh vasiaa man aae |
Those who focus their consciousness on the True Guru - peace comes to abide in their minds.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
har naam dhiaaveh rang siau har naam rahe liv laae |
They meditate on the Name of the Lord with love; they are lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਸਉਪਿਆ ਜਿ ਜੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
naanak satigur so dhan saupiaa ji jeea meh rahiaa samaae |
O Nanak, the True Guru has bestowed upon them the wealth, which remains contained within their hearts.
ਰੰਗੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਉ ਅਗਲਾ ਵੰਨੀ ਚੜੈ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੧॥
rang tisai kau agalaa vanee charrai charraae |1|
They are imbued with supreme love; its color increases day by day. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਈ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਜਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
maaeaa hoee naaganee jagat rahee lapattaae |
Maya is a serpent, clinging to the world.
ਇਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਖਾਇ ॥
eis kee sevaa jo kare tis hee kau fir khaae |
Whoever serves her, she ultimately devours.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਗਾਰੜੂ ਤਿਨਿ ਮਲਿ ਦਲਿ ਲਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
guramukh koee gaararroo tin mal dal laaee paae |
The Gurmukh is a snake-charmer; he has trampled her and thrown her down, and crushed her underfoot.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak seee ubare ji sach rahe liv laae |2|
O Nanak, they alone are saved, who remain lovingly absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਣਾਇਸੀ ॥
dtaadtee kare pukaar prabhoo sunaaeisee |
The minstrel cries out, and God hears him.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੀਰਕ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥
andar dheerak hoe pooraa paaeisee |
He is comforted within his mind, and he obtains the Perfect Lord.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਸੀ ॥
jo dhur likhiaa lekh se karam kamaaeisee |
Whatever destiny is pre-ordained by the Lord, those are the deeds he does.
ਜਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥
jaa hovai khasam deaal taa mehal ghar paaeisee |
When the Lord and Master becomes Merciful, then one obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence as his home.
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਸੀ ॥੫॥
so prabh meraa at vaddaa guramukh melaaeisee |5|
That God of mine is so very great; as Gurmukh, I have met Him. ||5||

Salok, Third Mehl:
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਹੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
sabhanaa kaa sahu ek hai sad hee rahai hajoor |
There is One Lord God of all; He remains ever-present.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੰਨਈ ਤਾ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
naanak hukam na manee taa ghar hee andar door |
O Nanak, if one does not obey the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then within one's own home, the Lord seems far away.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭੀ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਮਨਾਇਸੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
hukam bhee tinaa manaaeisee jina kau nadar karee |
They alone obey the Lord's Command, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
hukam man sukh paaeaa prem suhaagan hoe |1|
Obeying His Command, one obtains peace, and becomes the happy, loving soul-bride. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਰੈਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜਲਿ ਮੁਈ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ਭਾਉ ॥
rain sabaaee jal muee kant na laaeo bhaau |
She who does not love her Husband Lord, burns and wastes away all through the night of her life.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਨਿ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak sukh vasan souhaaganee jina piaaraa purakh har raau |2|
O Nanak, the soul-brides dwell in peace; they have the Lord, their King, as their Husband. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
sabh jag fir mai dekhiaa har iko daataa |
Roaming over the entire world, I have seen that the Lord is the only Giver.
ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
aupaae kitai na paaeeai har karam bidhaataa |
The Lord cannot be obtained by any device at all; He is the Architect of Karma.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gurasabadee har man vasai har sahaje jaataa |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, and the Lord is easily revealed within.
ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਤਾ ॥
andarahu trisanaa agan bujhee har amrit sar naataa |
The fire of desire within is quenched, and one bathes in the Lord's Pool of Ambrosial Nectar.
ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਾਤਾ ॥੬॥
vaddee vaddiaaee vadde kee guramukh bolaataa |6|
The great greatness of the great Lord God - the Gurmukh speaks of this. ||6||

ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਪਇਆ ਹੀ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
kaaeaa hans kiaa preet hai ji peaa hee chhadd jaae |
What love is this between the body and soul, which ends when the body falls?
ਏਸ ਨੋ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਕਿ ਖਵਾਲੀਐ ਜਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
es no koorr bol ki khavaaleeai ji chaladiaa naal na jaae |
Why feed it by telling lies? When you leave, it does not go with you.
ਕਾਇਆ ਮਿਟੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਪਉਣੈ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
kaaeaa mittee andh hai paunai puchhahu jaae |
The body is merely blind dust; go, and ask the soul.
ਹਉ ਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
hau taa maaeaa mohiaa fir fir aavaa jaae |
The soul answers, "I am enticed by Maya, and so I come and go, again and again."
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਤੋ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਜਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak hukam na jaato khasam kaa ji rahaa sach samaae |1|
O Nanak, I do not know my Lord and Master's Command, by which I would merge in the Truth. ||1||
