ਜਬ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਅਜੁਧਿਆ ਆਯੋ ॥

ਸੁਨਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਲੈਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

When Krishna came to Ayodhya, then the king himself went to welcome him and bring him
ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਬੈਠਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
singhaasan apane baitthaariyo |
ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੦੦॥
chit ko sok door kar ddaariyo |2100|
He got him seated on his throne and destroyed his afflictions.2100.
ਚਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੇ ਗਹਿ ਕਰ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
charan prabhoo ke geh kar rahiyo |
ਤੁਮ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਦੁਖ ਬਹਿਯੋ ॥
tum darasan paavat dukh bahiyo |
He caught hold of the feet of the lord and said, “My suffering have ended after having your sight
ਅਰੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
ar nrip chit mai prem badtaayo |
ਮਨ ਅਪਨੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਮਿਲਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੦੧॥
man apano sang sayaam milaayo |2101|
” He absorbed his mind in Krishna, thus increasing his love for him.2101.

ਦੇਖ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੋਤਮ ਕੀ ਹਸਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਇਮ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
dekh kai preet nripotam kee has kai tih so im sayaam uchaaro |
Seeing the love of the king, Krishna said smilingly to him
ਹੋ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਘਵ ਕੇ ਕੁਲ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਵਨ ਸੋ ਰਿਸਿ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਛਾਰੋ ॥
ho tum raaghav ke kul te jin raavan so ris satr pachhaaro |
“O king! you belong to the clan of Rama, who, on being enraged, had killed enemies like Ravana
ਮਾਗਵੋ ਛਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੋ ਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਊ ਮਾਗਤਿ ਹੋ ਨਹਿ ਸੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰੋ ॥
maagavo chhatran ko na kahiyo taoo maagat ho neh sank bichaaro |
ਅਪਨੀ ਦੈ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਤਿਹ ਕਉ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਹਤ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੨੧੦੨॥
apanee dai duhitaa ham kau tih kau chit chaahat hai su hamaaro |2102|
“The Kshatriyas do not beg, but still I ask unhesitatingly and request you to marry your daughter with me according to my desire.”2102.

ਤਬ ਯੌ ਭੂਪ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
tab yau bhoop sayaam so bhaakhee |
ਏਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਗ੍ਰਯਾ ਮੈ ਕਰ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
ek pratigrayaa mai kar raakhee |
Then the king said, “I have avowed one thing
ਜੋ ਇਨ ਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਿਖਭਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੈ ॥
jo in sat brikhabhan ko naathai |
ਸੋ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੈ ॥੨੧੦੩॥
so ih ko lai jaa kar saathai |2103|
Whosoever will string these seven bulls, I shall send my daughter with him.”2103.

ਕਟਿ ਸੋ ਕਸਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪਿਤੰਬਰ ਕੋ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਾਤਊ ਬੇਖ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
katt so kas sayaam pitanbar ko apuno pun saataoo bekh banaae |
ਦੇਖਬੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਲਗੈ ਕਿਨ ਹੂ ਲਖਿ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
dekhabe bheetar ek hee sayaam lagai kin hoo lakh bhed na paae |
Fastening his yellow garment around his waist, Krishna made seven different guises, which looked quite similar, when observed
ਪਾਗਹਿ ਦਾਬਿ ਨਚਾਇ ਕੈ ਭਉਹਨ ਸੂਰ ਸਭੋ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਰ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
paageh daab nachaae kai bhauhan soor sabho meh soor kahaae |
On tightening his turban, he caused his eyebrows to dance like the warriors
ਧੰਨਿ ਹੀ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਬ ਸਾਤ ਹੀ ਬੈਲਨ ਕੋ ਨਥਿ ਆਏ ॥੨੧੦੪॥
dhan hee dhan kahiyo sabh hee jab saat hee bailan ko nath aae |2104|
When Krishna stringed all the seven bulls, then all the spectators hailed him.2104.
ਜਬ ਨਾਥਤ ਭਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਤ ਬ੍ਰਿਖਭ ਤਬ ਭਾਖਤ ਭੇ ਭਟਵਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
jab naathat bhayo prabh saat brikhabh tab bhaakhat bhe bhattavaa ih saathe |
ਆਵਤ ਜੋ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਇਹੀ ਹਿਤ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਏ ਇਨ ਸਿੰਗਨ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
aavat jo balavant ihee hit so pure in singan saathe |
When Krishna was stringing the bulls, then accompanying warriors were talking that there is not such mighty hero, who could fight with the horns of these bulls
ਕਉਨ ਬਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਯੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਇਨ ਸਾਤਨ ਕੇ ਜੋਊ ਨਾਕਹਿ ਨਾਥੇ ॥
kaun balee pragattiyo jag mai in saatan ke joaoo naakeh naathe |
ਬੀਰ ਕਹੈ ਹਸ ਕੈ ਰਨਧੀਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਿਪੁ ਚੀਰ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥੇ ॥੨੧੦੫॥
beer kahai has kai ranadheer binaa rip cheer su sree brijanaathe |2105|
Who is such a hero, who can string all the seven bulls? Then those warriors said smilingly that it was only Krishna, who could perform such a feat.2105.
ਸਾਧ ਕਹੈ ਇਕ ਯੌ ਹਸਿ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਜਗ ਬੀਰ ਬਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
saadh kahai ik yau has kai sam sayaam kee jo jag beer biyo hai |
The saints smilingly said, “There is no hero like Krishna in the world
ਜਾ ਮਘਵਾਜਿਤ ਜੀਤ ਲਯੋ ਸਿਰ ਰਾਵਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਬੰਧ ਕਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
jaa maghavaajit jeet layo sir raavan kaatt kabandh kiyo hai |
He chopped the head of Ravana, the conqueror of Indra and made him a headless trunk
ਗਾੜ ਪਰੀ ਗਜ ਪੈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਕਹਿ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
gaarr paree gaj pai jab hee tih naakeh te prabh raakh liyo hai |
ਭੀਰ ਪਰੇ ਰਨਧੀਰ ਭਯੋ ਜਨ ਪੀਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਅਧੀਰ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੨੧੦੬॥
bheer pare ranadheer bhayo jan peer nihaar adheer bhayo hai |2106|
He saved the elephant, when he was in affliction and wheevr a calamity fell on the ordinary human beings, he became impatient for relieving him.”2106.
ਜੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੇਦ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾਹੀ ਸੋ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਸਿਆਮ ਕੋ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
jo bidh bed ke beech likhee bidh taahee so bayaah siaam ko keeno |
ਆਨੰਦ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਦੀਨ ਸੁ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਸਾਜ ਨਵੀਨੋ ॥
aanand kai at hee chit mai sabh deen su bipran saaj naveeno |
The marriage of Krishna was performed according to Vedic rites, and the helpless Brahmins were given new garments etc.
ਅਉ ਗਜਰਾਜ ਬਡੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਾਜ ਘਨੇ ਧਨ ਲੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
aau gajaraaj badde ar baaj ghane dhan lai brijanaath ko deeno |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਸੁ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੨੧੦੭॥
sayaam bhane ih bhaat so bhoopat lok bikhai at hee jas leeno |2107|
The huge elephants and horses were given to Krishna and in this way, the praise of the king spread in the whole world.2107.

ਭੂਪ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਬੈਠ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਸਭਾ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
bhoop singhaasan aoopar baitth kai madh sabhaa ih bhaat bakhaaniyo |
ਤੈਸੋ ਈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕੀਯੋ ਜਦੁਨੰਦਨ ਜਿਉ ਧਨੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਘੁਨੰਦਨ ਤਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
taiso ee kaam keeyo jadunandan jiau dhan sree raghunandan taaniyo |
The king said while sitting in his court, “Krishna has performed the same task which was performed by Rama while pulling the Shiva’s bow
ਜੀਤਿ ਉਜੈਨ ਕੇ ਭੂਪ ਕੀ ਭੈਨ ਪੁਰੀ ਇਹ ਅਉਧ ਜਬੈ ਪਗੁ ਠਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
jeet ujain ke bhoop kee bhain puree ih aaudh jabai pag tthaaniyo |
ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਸੂਰ ਸਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੦੮॥
dekhat hee sabh hee man mai brij naaeik soor sahee kar jaaniyo |2108|
When he (Krishna) came to the city of Oudh after winning the sister of he king of Ujjain, then he was accepted as a hero at the same time.2108.
ਭੂਪ ਜਬੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਬੀਰ ਸਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
bhoop jabai apane man mai jadubeer ko beer sahee kar jaaniyo |
Krishna did not allow any enemy king to stay long against him in the war
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਜੁਧ ਸਮੈ ਅਰਿ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਆਂਖਨ ਅਗ੍ਰਜ ਆਨਿਯੋ ॥
sree brij naaeik judh samai ar aaur na aankhan agraj aaniyo |
Knowing this, the king considering him a hero
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਹੇਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਰੁ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
mantran her sabhai har ko bar laaeik hai ih bhaat bakhaaniyo |
The ministers looking at Krishna, described him as the suitable match
ਅਉਧ ਕੇ ਰਾਇ ਤਬੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੦੯॥
aaudh ke raae tabai apune man mai kab sayaam mahaa sukh maaniyo |2109|
Then according to the poet Shyam, the king of Oudh felt extreme happiness.2109.
ਕਰਮਨ ਮੈ ਦਿਜ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਜੁ ਥੇ ਜਬ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭੂਪ ਸਭਾ ਹੂੰ ਮੈ ਆਏ ॥
karaman mai dij sresatt ju the jab so ih bhoop sabhaa hoon mai aae |
ਦੈ ਕੈ ਅਸੀਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੋਤਮ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਇਹ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
dai kai asees nripotam ko kab sayaam bhanai ih bain sunaae |
The eminent Brahmins, export in Vedic rituals, came to the court and giving their blessings to the king, they said these words,
ਜਾ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਨੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੇਤੁ ਘਨੇ ਦਿਜ ਦੇਸਨ ਦੇਸ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
jaa duhitaa ke suno tum het ghane dij desan des patthaae |
ਸੋ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਇ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਹੀ ਬਰੁ ਲਾਇਕ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਪਾਏ ॥੨੧੧੦॥
so tum raae achaanak hee bar laaeik sree brij naaeik paae |2110|
“O king! you had sent Brahmins for finding a suitable match for this daughter in different countries, but today fortunately that match has been obtained.”2110.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਚਿਤ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੀਚ ਹੁਲਾਸ ਬਢੈ ਕੈ ॥
yau sun kai bateeyaa tin kee chit ke nrip beech hulaas badtai kai |
ਦਾਜ ਦਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਬਾਜਨ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਜੈ ਕੈ ॥
daaj dayo jih ant na aavat baajan dvaar anek bajai kai |
Hearing these words of the Brahmins, the king getting pleased caused the musical instruments to be played and gave various kinds of dowry
ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਦੀਨ ਘਨੀ ਦਛਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਚਿਤੈ ਕੈ ॥
bipran deen ghanee dachhanaa sukh paae kitai jadubeer chitai kai |
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜੋ ਆਪਨੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਸੁ ਦਈ ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਠੈ ਕੈ ॥੨੧੧੧॥
sundar jo aapanee duhitaa su dee ghan sayaam ke sang patthai kai |2111|
Suitable presents were given to the Brahmins and with great pleasure, he offered his daughter to Krishna.2111.
ਜੀਤਿ ਸੁਅੰਬਰ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਉਧ ਕੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਜਬ ਆਯੋ ॥
jeet suanbar mai har aaudh ke bhoopat kee duhitaa jab aayo |
ਬਾਗ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਸੈਲ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਗ ਪਾਰਥ ਥੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
baag ke bheetar sail karai sang paarath the chit mai tthaharaayo |
When Krishna came back after winning the daughter of the king of Oudh is mvara, he made up his mind to roam in the forest alongwith Arjuna
ਪੋਸਤ ਭਾਗ ਅਫੀਮ ਘਨੇ ਮਦ ਪੀਵਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਾਜ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
posat bhaag afeem ghane mad peevan ke tin kaaj mangaayo |
ਮੰਗਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਬਹੁ ਆਵਤ ਭੇ ਜਨ ਪਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੨੧੧੨॥
mangan logan bol patthiyo bahu aavat bhe jan paar na paayo |2112|
There he caused to be brought Poppy plant, hemp, opium and various kinds of wines for drinking, there he also called many beggars and singers, who came in groups.2112.
ਬਹੁ ਰਾਮਜਨੀ ਤਹ ਨਾਚਤ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਝਾਝਰ ਬੀਨ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਬਜਾਵੈ ॥
bahu raamajanee teh naachat hai ik jhaajhar been mridang bajaavai |
Many concubines, playing their anklets, lyres and drums began to dance there
ਦੈ ਇਕ ਝੂਮਕ ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਭਾਮਿਨ ਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਝੂਮਕ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
dai ik jhoomak aavat hai ik bhaamin dai har jhoomak jaavai |
Someone is dancing while revolving, and some woman is spinning on all the four sides of Krishna
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਦੇਤ ਤਿਨੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਲ ਘਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਜੁ ਰਿਝਾਵੈ ॥
kaanrah pattanbar det tinai man laal ghane chit ko ju rijhaavai |
Krishna is giving them comfortable raiments, gems and jewels
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਲ ਖਰੇ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਜਹਿ ਕੋ ਕੋਊ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨੧੧੩॥
sayaam bhanai bahu mol khare sur raajeh ko koaoo haath na aavai |2113|
He is giving such precious things to them, which even Indra cannot procure.2113.
ਪਾਵਤ ਰਾਮਜਨੀ ਨਰ ਕੈ ਧਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਦਾਨ ਗਵਇਯਾ ॥
paavat raamajanee nar kai dhan paavat hai bahu daan gaveiyaa |
The concubines after dancing and the singers after singing are receiving great gifts
ਏਕ ਰਿਝਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਪੜਿ ਛੰਤ ਸਵਇਯਾ ॥
ek rijhaavat hai har ko kab sayaam bhanai parr chhant saveiyaa |
Someone is pleasing Krishna by reciting poetry and someone is pleasing him by reciting various stanzas
ਅਉਰ ਦਿਸਾ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਸੁ ਘਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਚਤ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਗਾਨ ਭਵਇਆ ॥
aaur disaa ke bikhai su ghane mil naachat hai kar gaan bhaveaa |
ਕਉਨ ਕਮੀ ਕਹੋ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਜੋਊ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਅਵਇਯਾ ॥੨੧੧੪॥
kaun kamee kaho hai tin ko joaoo sree jadubeer ke dhaam aveiyaa |2114|
All are dancing together by revolving in all the directions, whosoever has come to the abode of Krishna, then tell us, what shortage he can have?2114.
ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਬਹੁ ਦੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਥ ਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨ ਕੀ ਭੂਅ ਮੈ ਪਗ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tin kau bahu dai sang paarath lai har bhojan kee bhooa mai pag dhaariyo |
Giving them many presents, Krihsna went to dine alongwith Arjuna
ਪੋਸਤ ਭਾਗ ਅਫੀਮ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਪੀਓ ਮਦ ਸੋਕ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
posat bhaag afeem mangaae peeo mad sok bidaa kar ddaariyo |
They made use of poppy seeds, hemp and opium and drank wine, thereby they removed all their sorrows
ਮਤਿ ਹੋ ਚਾਰੋਈ ਕੈਫਨ ਸੋ ਸੁਤ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੈ ਸੋ ਇਮਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
mat ho chaaroee kaifan so sut indr kai so im sayaam uchaariyo |
ਕਾਮ ਕੀਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਘਟਿ ਕਿਉ ਮਦਰਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਆਠਵੋ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੧੧੫॥
kaam keeyo brahamaa ghatt kiau madaraa ko na aatthavo sindh savaariyo |2115|
Getting intoxicated with all these four stimulants Krishna said to Arjuna, “Brahma has done the right thing in not creating the eight ocean of wine.2115.

ਨਾਥ ਨਰਹਰ ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਵ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਦੇਵ ॥
naath narahar deen bandhav patit paavan dev |
O Lord, Man-lion Incarnate, Companion to the poor, Divine Purifier of sinners;
ਭੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨਾਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਸਫਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥
bhai traas naas kripaal gun nidh safal suaamee sev |1|
O Destroyer of fear and dread, Merciful Lord Master, Treasure of Excellence, fruitful is Your service. ||1||

ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੇਸਵ ਤਾਰਿ ਜਗ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan saran deaal kesav taar jag bhav sindh |1| rahaau |
I seek the Sanctuary of Your Feet, O Merciful Lord. Carry me across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਹਰਨ ਮਦ ਮੋਹ ਦਹਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਕਰੰਦ ॥
kaam krodh haran mad moh dehan muraar man makarand |
O Dispeller of sexual desire and anger, Eliminator of intoxication and attachment, Destroyer of ego, Honey of the mind;
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਧਰਣੀਧਰ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥੨॥
janam maran nivaar dharaneedhar pat raakh paramaanand |2|
set me free from birth and death, O Sustainer of the earth, and preserve my honor, O Embodiment of supreme bliss. ||2||
ਜਲਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਰੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਮੰਤ ॥
jalat anik tarang maaeaa gur giaan har rid mant |
The many waves of desire for Maya are burnt away, when the Guru's spiritual wisdom is enshrined in the heart, through the Guru's Mantra.
ਛੇਦਿ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਚਿੰਤ ਮੇਟਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਨੰਤ ॥੩॥
chhed ahanbudh karunaa mai chint mett purakh anant |3|
Destroy my egotism, O Merciful Lord; dispel my anxiety, O Infinite Primal Lord. ||3||
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਪਲ ਮਹੂਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥
simar samarath pal mahoorat prabh dhiaan sehaj samaadh |
Remember in meditation the Almighty Lord, every moment and every instant; meditate on God in the celestial peace of Samaadhi.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾਚੀਐ ਰਜ ਸਾਧ ॥੪॥

O Merciful to the meek, perfectly blissful Lord, I beg for the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||
ਮੋਹ ਮਿਥਨ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
moh mithan durant aasaa baasanaa bikaar |
Emotional attachment is false, desire is filthy, and longing is corrupt.
ਰਖੁ ਧਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਉਧਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੫॥
rakh dharam bharam bidaar man te udhar har nirankaar |5|
Please, preserve my faith, dispel these doubts from my mind, and save me, O Formless Lord. ||5||
ਧਨਾਢਿ ਆਢਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਹੋਤ ਜਿਨਾ ਨ ਚੀਰ ॥
dhanaadt aadt bhanddaar har nidh hot jinaa na cheer |
They have become wealthy, loaded with the treasures of the Lord's riches; they were lacking even clothes.
ਖਲ ਮੁਗਧ ਮੂੜ ਕਟਾਖੵ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਮਤਿ ਧੀਰ ॥੬॥
khal mugadh moorr kattaakhay sreedhar bhe gun mat dheer |6|
The idiotic, foolish and senseless people have become virtuous and patient, receiving the Gracious Glance of the Lord of wealth. ||6||
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
jeevan mukat jagadees jap man dhaar rid parateet |
Become Jivan-Mukta, liberated while yet alive, by meditating on the Lord of the Universe, O mind, and maintaining faith in Him in your heart.
ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸਹ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੭॥
jeea deaa meaa sarabatr ramanan param hansah reet |7|
Show kindness and mercy to all beings, and realize that the Lord is pervading everywhere; this is the way of life of the enlightened soul, the supreme swan. ||7||
ਦੇਤ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਰਸਨ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
det darasan sravan har jas rasan naam uchaar |
He grants the Blessed Vision of His Darshan to those who listen to His Praises, and who, with their tongues, chant His Name.

ang sang bhagavaan parasan prabh naanak patit udhaar |8|1|2|5|1|1|2|57|
They are part and parcel, life and limb with the Lord God; O Nanak, they feel the Touch of God, the Savior of sinners. ||8||1||2||5||1||1||2||57||

ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੁਆ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
eihu jagat mamataa muaa jeevan kee bidh naeh |
This world perishing in attachment and possessiveness; no one knows the way of life.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਣ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
gur kai bhaanai jo chalai taan jeevan padavee paeh |
One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, obtains the supreme status of life.
ਓਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਜੀਵਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹਿ ॥
oe sadaa sadaa jan jeevate jo har charanee chit laeh |
Those humble beings who focus their consciousness on the Lord's Feet, live forever and ever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak nadaree man vasai guramukh sehaj samaeh |1|
O Nanak, by His Grace, the Lord abides in the minds of the Gurmukhs, who merge in celestial bliss. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਮਾਰ ॥
andar sahasaa dukh hai aapai sir dhandhai maar |
Within the self is the pain of doubt; engrossed in worldly affairs, they are killing themselves.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
doojai bhaae sute kabeh na jaageh maaeaa moh piaar |
Asleep in the love of duality, they never wake up; they are in love with, and attached to Maya.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥
naam na cheteh sabad na veechaareh ihu manamukh kaa aachaar |
They do not think of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad. This is the conduct of the self-willed manmukhs.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੨॥
har naam na paaeaa janam birathaa gavaaeaa naanak jam maar kare khuaar |2|
They do not obtain the Lord's Name, and they waste away their lives in vain; O Nanak, the Messenger of Death punishes and dishonors them. ||2||
