ਕਹੁ ਸਤਿਧੰਨਾ ਬਾਤ ਅਬੈ ਹਮ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥
kahu satidhanaa baat abai ham kiaa karai |
ਕਹੋ ਪਰੈ ਕੈ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੋ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਰੈ ॥
kaho parai kai jaae kaho lar kai marai |
“O Shatdhavana! What should we do now? If you say, we shall run away or shall die fighting
ਦੁਇ ਮੈ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੋ ਸਮਝਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
due mai ik muhi baat kaho samajhaae kai |
ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮਹਿ ਮਾਰੈ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੦੭੧॥
ho ke upaae kai sayaameh maarai jaae kai |2071|
Advise and instruct me about one of them and tell me if there is any step, by which we can kill Krishna.2071.
ਕ੍ਰਿਤਬਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਤਿਨਿ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
kritabaramaa kee baat sunat tin yau kahiyo |
ਜਦੁਪਤਿ ਬਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਜੋ ਚਹਿਯੋ ॥
jadupat balee prachandd haniyo ar jo chahiyo |
After hearing the words of Kratvarma, he said, “The enemy Krishna, whom you want to kill, he is a powerful and mighty warrior,
ਤਾ ਸੋ ਹਮ ਪੈ ਬਲ ਨ ਲਰੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
taa so ham pai bal na larai pun jaae kai |
“I have no such strength that I can fight against him
ਹੋ ਕੰਸ ਸੇ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੦੭੨॥
ho kans se chhin mai maar de sukh paae kai |2072|
He has, without any special effort, killed person like Kansa in an instant.”2072.
ਬਤੀਆ ਸੁਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਪੈ ਆਯੋ ॥
bateea sun tih kee akraoor pai aayo |
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਕੋ ਭੇਦ ਸੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
prabh dubidhaa ko bhed su taeh sunaayo |
Hearing his words, he came to Akrur and talked to him about his duality regarding Krishna.
ਤਿਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਅਬ ਸੁਨਿ ਤੇਰੋ ਇਹੀ ਉਪਾਇ ਹੈ ॥
tin kahiyo ab sun tero ihee upaae hai |
ਹੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਬਚ ਹੈ ਸੋਊ ਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਬਚਾਇ ਹੈ ॥੨੦੭੩॥
ho prabh te bach hai soaoo ju praan bachaae hai |2073|
He replied, “There is only one step, which can be taken now and that is to run away in order to save the life from the Lord.”2073.

SWAYYA
ਦੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ਭਯੋ ਕਿਹ ਓਰਿ ਭਜੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dai man taeh udaas bhayo kih or bhajo chit mai ih dhaariyo |
ਮੈ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਬਲੀ ਸਤ੍ਰਾਜਿਤ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
mai aparaadh keeo har ko man het balee satraajit maariyo |
Giving him the jewel, Kratvarma became sad and thought to which side he should run away? Killing Satrajit for the sake of jewel, I have committed a crime towards Krishna
ਤਾਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੇਤੁ ਗੁਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸਭੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਪੁਰਖਤ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
taeh ke het gusaa kar sayaam sabhai apano purakhat sanbhaariyo |
For the reason, Krishna has come back in great rage, in support of his strength
ਜਉ ਰਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਊ ਮਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਏਹ ਕੈ ਡਰੁ ਉਤਰ ਓਰਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੦੭੪॥
jau reh hau taoo maarat hai eeh kai ddar utar or sidhaariyo |2074|
If I stay here, he will kill me, being frightened, he fled away towards the North.2074.

DOHRA
ਸਤਿਧੰਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਲੈ ਜਹਾ ਭਜ ਗਯੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
satidhanaa man lai jahaa bhaj gayo traas badtaae |
ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਚੜਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਤਹ ਹੀ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੨੦੭੫॥
sayandan pai charr sayaam joo teh hee pahunchiyo jaae |2075|
Shatdhava becoming fearful and taking the jewel with him, wherever he went running away, Krishna reached there on his chariot.2075.
ਪਾਵ ਪਿਆਦੋ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਜਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
paav piaado satr hoe bhajiyo su traas badtaae |
ਤਬ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੋ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੨੦੭੬॥
tab jadubeer kripaan so maariyo taa ko jaae |2076|
The enemy fled on foot in his fear, Krishna killed him there with his sword.2076.
ਖੋਜਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
khojat bhayo tih maar kai man nahee aaee haath |
ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਈ ਹਾਥਿ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਲੀ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੨੦੭੭॥
man nahee aaee haath yau kahiyo halee ke saath |2077|
After killing him and searching him, the jewel was not found and he told Balram about the news of not finding the jewel.2077.

ਐਸੇ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਆਜ ਛਪਾਈ ॥
aise lakhiyo musalee man mai su prabhoo ham te man aaj chhapaaee |
Balram reflected that he had hidden the jewel from them
ਲੈ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਗਯੋ ਮਨਿ ਕਉ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਸੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
lai akraoor banaaras gayo man kau tih kee na kachhoo sudh paaee |
The whereabouts of Akrur could not be known, but it was rumoured that he had gone to Banaras taking the jewel with him.
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਮੋ ਇਕ ਸਿਖ︀ਯ ਹੈ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਤਹਾ ਹਉ ਸੋ ਐਸੇ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
sayaam joo mo ik sikhay hai bhoopat jaat tahaa hau so aise sunaaee |
ਯੌ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਕਹਿ ਜਾਤ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੀ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਦੁਚਿਤਾਈ ॥੨੦੭੮॥
yau bateeyaa keh jaat rahiyo jadubeer kee kai man mai duchitaaee |2078|
“O Krishna! I have a student of mine there, who is a king and I am going there, “saying this Balram, thinking about the anxiety of Krishna, started going towards Banaras.2078.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA
ਜਉ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਗਯੋ ਤਉ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
jau musalee tih pai gayo tau bhoopat sukh paae |
ਲੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਤਿਹ ਧਾਮ ਗਯੋ ਆਗੇ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਆਇ ॥੨੦੭੯॥
lai apune tih dhaam gayo aage hee te aae |2079|
The king felt extremely pleased, when Balram reached there and welcoming him, he brought him to his home.2079.
ਗਦਾ ਜੁਧ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਯੌ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
gadaa judh mai at chatur yau sabh te sun paae |
ਤਬੈ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਹਲੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਸੀਖੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਇ ॥੨੦੮੦॥
tabai durajodhan halee te sabh seekhee bidh aae |2080|
When the people came to know that Balram is a great expert in the mace-war, then Duryoodhana came to learn this science from his there.2080.

ਸਤਿਧੰਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਾਰ ਜਬੈ ਜਦੁਨੰਦਨ ਦ੍ਵਾਰਵਤੀ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
satidhanaa kau maar jabai jadunandan dvaaravatee hoo ke bheetar aayo |
ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
kanchan ko akraoor banaaras daan karai bahu yau sun paayo |
When Krishna came to Dwarka after killing Shatdhanva, then he came to know that Akrur is giving great amount of gold etc. in charity in Banaras
ਸੂਰਜ ਦਿਤ ਉਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਯੌ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁ ਜਨਾਯੋ ॥
sooraj dit uhee peh hai man yau apane man mai su janaayo |
Krishna comprehended this in his mind that the Samantak jewel is with him
ਮਾਨਸ ਭੇਜ ਭਲੋ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥੨੦੮੧॥
maanas bhej bhalo tih pai tih ko apune peh bol patthaayo |2081|
He sent someone and called him at his place.2081.
ਜਉ ਹਰਿ ਪੈ ਸੋਊ ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਤੋ ਇਨ ਮਾਗਿ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥
jau har pai soaoo aavat bhayo tih te man to in maag lee hai |
When he came to Krishna, he implored him give the jewel
ਸੂਰਜ ਜੇ ਤਿਹ ਰੀਝਿ ਦਈ ਧਨਸਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾ ਹਿਤੁ ਦੇਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥
sooraj je tih reejh dee dhanasat kee jaa hit deh gee hai |
Surya had given that jewel delightfully and for this Shatdhanva had been killed
ਜਾ ਹਿਤੁ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਹਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਹਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਬਾਤ ਠਈ ਹੈ ॥
jaa hit sayaam triyaa har bhraateh maaneh kee man baat tthee hai |
For this jewel, Balram, the brother of Krishna, had thought in his mind and he would come back on obtaining it
ਸੋ ਦਿਖਰਾਇ ਸਭੋ ਹਰਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਲੈ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰਹ ਫੇਰਿ ਦਈ ਹੈ ॥੨੦੮੨॥
so dikharaae sabho harakhaae kai lai akraooreh fer dee hai |2082|
The same jewel was taken by Krishna and after showing it to all, he returned it to Akrur.2082.
ਜੋ ਸਤ੍ਰਾਜਿਤ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਸੁ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
jo satraajit kai kar sev su sooraj kee fun taeh te paaee |
The jewel, which had been obtained by Satrajit after serving the god Surya
ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੈ ਧਨਸਤਿ ਸੁ ਆਪਨੀ ਦੇਹ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jaa har kai ih ko badh kaaran kai dhanasat su aapanee deh gavaaee |
The jewel, for which Shatdhanva was killed by Krishna
ਤਾਹਿ ਗਯੋ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਥੋ ਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਪੈ ਆਈ ॥
taeh gayo akraoor tho lai tih te fir so brijanaath pai aaee |
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਮਨੋ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਰਾਘਵ ਹਾਈ ॥੨੦੮੩॥
so har det bhayo tih ko mundaree mano sayaam joo raaghav haaee |2083|
Which was taken by Akrur and which had come again to Krishna, the same was returned by Krishna to Akrur like the bestowal of a gold coin by Ram Chandra to his devotee.2083.

ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਆਰਾਧਿਤੰ ਸਚੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਰਮ ਹਿਤੰ ॥
bhagat prem aaraadhitan sach piaas param hitan |
The devotees worship the Lord in loving adoration. They thirst for the True Lord, with infinite affection.
ਬਿਲਲਾਪ ਬਿਲਲ ਬਿਨੰਤੀਆ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤ ਹਿਤੰ ॥੧॥
bilalaap bilal binanteea sukh bhaae chit hitan |1|
They tearfully beg and implore the Lord; in love and affection, their consciousness is at peace. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
jap man naam har saranee |
Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O my mind, and take to His Sanctuary.
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤਾਰਿ ਤਾਰਣ ਰਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sansaar saagar taar taaran ram naam kar karanee |1| rahaau |
The Lord's Name is the boat to cross over the world-ocean. Practice such a way of life. ||1||Pause||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮਿਰਤ ਸੁਭ ਚਿੰਤੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਮਣੰ ॥
e man mirat subh chintan gur sabad har ramanan |
O mind, even death wishes you well, when you remember the Lord through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਮਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੰ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਨਿ ਰਮਣੰ ॥੨॥
mat tat giaanan kaliaan nidhaanan har naam man ramanan |2|
The intellect receives the treasure, the knowledge of reality and supreme bliss, by repeating the Lord's Name in the mind. ||2||
ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੰ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਹਿਤੰ ॥
chal chit vit bhramaa bhraman jag moh magan hitan |
The fickle consciousness wanders around chasing after wealth; it is intoxicated with worldly love and emotional attachment.
ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਿੜੰ ਮਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ਸਬਦ ਰਤੰ ॥੩॥
thir naam bhagat dirran matee gur vaak sabad ratan |3|
Devotion to the Naam is permanently implanted within the mind, when it is attuned to the Guru's Teachings and His Shabad. ||3||
ਭਰਮਾਤਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਜਗੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਖਪੰ ॥
bharamaat bharam na chookee jag janam biaadh khapan |
Wandering around, doubt is not dispelled; afflicted by reincarnation, the world is being ruined.
ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੰ ਸਤਿ ਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਤਪੰ ॥੪॥
asathaan har nihakevalan sat matee naam tapan |4|
The Lord's eternal throne is free of this affliction; he is truly wise, who takes the Naam as his deep meditation. ||4||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਹੇਤ ਬਿਆਪਿਤੰ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੰ ॥
eihu jag moh het biaapitan dukh adhik janam maranan |
This world is engrossed in attachment and transitory love; it suffers the terrible pains of birth and death.
ਭਜੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਊਬਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਰਮਣੰ ॥੫॥
bhaj saran satigur aoobareh har naam rid ramanan |5|
Run to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, chant the Lord's Name in your heart, and you shall swim across. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਨੰ ਸਹਜ ਬੀਚਾਰੰ ॥
guramat nihachal man man manan sehaj beechaaran |
Following the Guru's Teaching, the mind becomes stable; the mind accepts it, and reflects upon it in peaceful poise.
ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਰੰ ॥੬॥
so man niramal jit saach antar giaan ratan saaran |6|
That mind is pure, which enshrines Truth within, and the most excellent jewel of spiritual wisdom. ||6||
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਰੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਮਨਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
bhai bhaae bhagat tar bhavajal manaa chit laae har charanee |
By the Fear of God, and Love of God, and by devotion, man crosses over the terrifying world-ocean, focusing his consciousness on the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਤਉ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੭॥
har naam hiradai pavitru paavan ihu sareer tau saranee |7|
The Name of the Lord, the most pure and sacred, is within my heart; this body is Your Sanctuary, Lord. ||7||
ਲਬ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਸਿ ਮਨੰ ॥
lab lobh lehar nivaaranan har naam raas manan |
The waves of greed and avarice are subdued, by treasuring the Lord's Name in the mind.
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਤੁਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਰਨੰ ॥੮॥੧॥੫॥
man maar tuhee niranjanaa kahu naanakaa saranan |8|1|5|
Subdue my mind, O Pure Immaculate Lord; says Nanak, I have entered Your Sanctuary. ||8||1||5||
