BHUJANG PRAYYAT STANZA
ਨਮੋ ਖਗ ਖੰਡੰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ਕਟਾਰੰ ॥
namo khag khanddan kripaanan kattaaran |
Salutation to him, who wields spear, double-edged sword, sword and dagger,
ਸਦਾ ਏਕ ਰੂਪੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਬਿਕਾਰੰ ॥
sadaa ek roopan sadaa nirabikaaran |
Who is ever monomorphic and ever without vices.
ਨਮੋ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਨਮੋ ਦੰਡ ਧਾਰਿਯੰ ॥
namo baan paanan namo dandd dhaariyan |
Salutation to Him, who is the wielder of bow in His hands and who also carries the staff,
ਜਿਨੈ ਚੌਦਹੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਜੋਤੰ ਬਿਥਾਰਿਯੰ ॥੮੭॥
jinai chauadahoon lok jotan bithaariyan |87|
Who hath spread His Light in all the fourteen worlds.87.
ਨਮਸਕਾਰਯੰ ਮੋਰ ਤੀਰੰ ਤੁਫੰਗੰ ॥
namasakaarayan mor teeran tufangan |
I salute the arrow and the gun, I salute the lustrous sword,
ਨਮੋ ਖਗ ਅਦੱਗੰ ਅਭੇਯੰ ਅਭੰਗੰ ॥
namo khag adagan abheyan abhangan |
Which Is impenetratable and indestructible.
ਗਦਾਯੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਸਟੰ ਨਮੋ ਸੈਹਥੀਯੰ ॥
gadaayan grisattan namo saihatheeyan |
I salute the great mace and lance,
ਜਿਨੈ ਤੁੱਲੀਯੰ ਬੀਰ ਬੀਯੋ ਨ ਬੀਯੰ ॥੮੮॥
jinai tuleeyan beer beeyo na beeyan |88|
Which have no equal or second in bravery.88.

He hath manifested Himself without elements.
ਨਮੋ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਦਾੜੰ ॥

Salutation to Him, who hath sharp grinder teeth,
ਮਹਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਸਟ ਗਾੜੰ ॥੮੯॥

Which are thick and strong.89.

Who hath destroyed the enemies.

Salutation to Him, Who holds the straight sword and the bayonet,
ਜਿਨੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਦੱਟੰ ॥੯੦॥

Who hath reporimanded the tyrants.90.

ਮੇਰੁ ਕਰੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਤੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਨ ਦੂਸਰ ਤੋ ਸੋ ॥
mer karo trin te muhi jaeh gareeb nivaaj na doosar to so |
There is no other support for the poor except Thee, who hath made me a mountain from a straw.
ਭੂਲ ਛਿਮੋ ਹਮਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਨ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੋਊ ਮੋ ਸੋ ॥
bhool chhimo hamaree prabh aapan bhoolanahaar kahoon koaoo mo so |
O Lord! Forgive me for my mistakes, because who is there so much blunderhead like me?
ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੇਖੀਅਤ ਦ੍ਰਬ ਭਰੋ ਸੋ ॥
sev karee tumaree tin ke sabh hee grih dekheeat drab bharo so |
Those who have served Thee, there seems wealth and self-confidence in all there homes.
ਯਾ ਕਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਭੁਜਾਨ ਕੋ ਭਾਰੀ ਭਰੋਸੋ ॥੯੨॥
yaa kal main sabh kaal kripaan ke bhaaree bhujaan ko bhaaree bharoso |92|
In this Iron age, the supreme trust is only for KAL, Who is the Sword-incarnate and hath mighty arms.92.
ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਸੇ ਕੋਟ ਨਿਸਾਚਰ ਜਾਹਿ ਛਿਨੇਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਹਨ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
sunbh nisunbh se kott nisaachar jaeh chhinek bikhai han ddaare |
He, who hath destroyed millions of demons like Sumbh and Nisumbh in and instant.
ਧੂਮਰਲੋਚਨ ਚੰਡ ਔ ਮੁੰਡ ਸੇ ਮਾਹਖ ਸੇ ਪਲ ਬੀਚ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
dhoomaralochan chandd aau mundd se maahakh se pal beech nivaare |
Who hath annihilated in and instant the demons like Dhumarlochan, Chand, Mund and Mahishasura.
ਚਾਮਰ ਸੇ ਰਣ ਚਿੱਛਰ ਸੇ ਰਕਤਿੱਛਰ ਸੇ ਝਟ ਦੈ ਝਝਕਾਰੇ ॥
chaamar se ran chichhar se rakatachhar se jhatt dai jhajhakaare |
Who hath immediately thrashed and thrown down far away the demons like Chamar, Ranchichchhar and Rakat Beej.
ਐਸੋ ਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪਾਇ ਕਹਾ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਰਹੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੯੩॥
aiso su saahib paae kahaa paravaah rahee ih daas tihaare |93|
On realizing the Lord like Thee, this servant of yours doth not care for anyone else.93.
ਮੁੰਡਹੁ ਸੇ ਮਧੁਕੀਟਭ ਸੇ ਮੁਰ ਸੇ ਅਘ ਸੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਲੇ ਹੈਂ ॥
munddahu se madhukeettabh se mur se agh se jin kott dale hain |
He, Who hath mashed millions of demons like Mundakasura, Madhu, Kaitabh, Murs and Aghasura.
ਓਟ ਕਰੀ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਜਿਨੈ ਰਣ ਚੋਟ ਪਰੀ ਪਗ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਨ ਟਲੇ ਹੈਂ ॥
ott karee kabahoon na jinai ran chott paree pag dvai na ttale hain |
And such heroes who never asked anyone for support in the battlefield and had never turned back even two feet.
ਸਿੰਧ ਬਿਖੈ ਜੇ ਨ ਬੂਡੇ ਨਿਸਾਚਰ ਪਾਵਕ ਬਾਣ ਬਹੇ ਨ ਜਲੇ ਹੈਂ ॥
sindh bikhai je na boodde nisaachar paavak baan bahe na jale hain |
And such demons, who could not be drowned even in the sea and there was no impact on them of the fireshafts.
ਤੇ ਅਸਿ ਤੋਰ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਅਲੋਕ ਸੁ ਲਾਜ ਕੋ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਹੈਂ ॥੯੪॥
te as tor bilok alok su laaj ko chhaadd kai bhaaj chale hain |94|
On seeing Thy Sword and forsaking their shyness, they are fleeing away.94.
ਰਾਵਣ ਸੇ ਮਹਰਾਵਣ ਸੇ ਘਟਕਾਨਹੁ ਸੇ ਪਲ ਬੀਚ ਪਛਾਰੇ ॥
raavan se maharaavan se ghattakaanahu se pal beech pachhaare |
Thou hast destroyed in and instant the warriors like Ravana, Kumbhkarna and Ghatksura.
ਬਾਰਿਦਨਾਦ ਅਕੰਪਨ ਸੇ ਜਗ ਜੰਗ ਜੁਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਜਮ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
baaridanaad akanpan se jag jang jure jin siau jam haare |
And like Meghnad, who could defeat even Yama in the war..
ਕੁੰਭ ਅਕੁੰਭ ਸੇ ਜੀਤ ਸਭੈ ਜਗ ਸਾਤ ਹੂੰ ਸਿੰਧ ਹਥੀਆਰ ਪਖਾਰੇ ॥
kunbh akunbh se jeet sabhai jag saat hoon sindh hatheeaar pakhaare |
And the demons like Kumbh and Akumbh, who conquering all, washed away the blood from their weapons in seven seas, etc.
ਜੇ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਅਕਟੇ ਬਿਕਟੇ ਸੁ ਕਟੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੯੫॥
je je hute akatte bikatte su katte kar kaal kripaan ke maare |95|
All of them died with the terrible sword of the mighty KAL.95.
ਜੋ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਲ ਤੇ ਭਾਜ ਕੇ ਬਾਚੀਅਤ ਤੋ ਕਿਹ ਕੁੰਟ ਕਹੋ ਭਜਿ ਜਈਐ ॥
jo kahoon kaal te bhaaj ke baacheeat to kih kuntt kaho bhaj jeeai |
If one tries to flee and escape from KAL, then tell in which direction shall he flee?
ਆਗੇ ਹੂੰ ਕਾਲ ਧਰੇ ਅਸਿ ਗਾਜਤ ਛਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਨਸਿ ਅਈਐ ॥
aage hoon kaal dhare as gaajat chhaajat hai jih te nas aeeai |
Wherever one may go, even there he will perceive the well-seated thundering sword of KAL.
ਐਸੋ ਨ ਕੈ ਗਯੋ ਕੋਈ ਸੁ ਦਾਵ ਰੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਸੋ ਘਾਵ ਬਚਈਐ ॥
aiso na kai gayo koee su daav re jaeh upaav so ghaav bacheeai |
None hath been able to tell uptil now the measure, which, may be adopted to save himself from the blow of KAL.
ਜਾਂ ਤੇ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਮੂੜ ਕਹੂੰ ਹਸ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਜਈਐ ॥੯੬॥
jaan te na chhootteeai moorr kahoon has taan kee kiaun na saranaagat jeeai |96|
O foolish mind! The one from whom Thou cannot escape in any manner, why doth thee not go under His Refuge.96.
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਔ ਬਿਸਨ ਜਪੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਿਆਯੋ ॥
krisan aau bisan jape tuhi kottik raam raheem bhalee bidh dhiaayo |
Thou hast meditated on millions of Krishnas, Vishnus, Ramas and Rahims.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਪਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਸੰਭੁ ਥਪਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਕੋ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਬਚਾਯੋ ॥
braham japio ar sanbh thapio tih te tuhi ko kinahoon na bachaayo |
Thou hast recited the name of Brahma and established Shivalingam, even then none could save thee.
ਕੋਟ ਕਰੀ ਤਪਸਾ ਦਿਨ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨ ਕੌਡੀ ਕੋ ਕਾਮ ਕਢਾਯੋ ॥
kott karee tapasaa din kottik kaahoon na kauaddee ko kaam kadtaayo |
Thou hast observed millions of austerities for millions of days, but thou couldst not be recompensed even for the value of a couldst not be recompensed even for the value of a cowrie.
ਕਾਮਕੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਸੀਰੇ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਨ ਕਾਲ ਕੋ ਘਾਉ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਬਚਾਯੋ ॥੯੭॥
kaamak mantr kaseere ke kaam na kaal ko ghaau kinahoon na bachaayo |97|
The Mantra recited for fulfillment of worldly desires doth not even bring the least gain and none of such Mantras can’t save from the blow of KAL.97.
ਕਾਹੇ ਕੋ ਕੂਰ ਕਰੈ ਤਪਸਾ ਇਨ ਕੀ ਕੋਊ ਕੌਡੀ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਨ ਐਹੈ ॥
kaahe ko koor karai tapasaa in kee koaoo kauaddee ke kaam na aihai |
Why doth thou indulge in false austerities, because they will not bring in gain of even one cowrie.
ਤੋਹਿ ਬਚਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਕੈ ਆਪਨ ਘਾਵ ਬਚਾਇ ਨ ਐਹੈ ॥
tohi bachaae sakai kahu kaise kai aapan ghaav bachaae na aihai |
The cannot save themselves form the blow (of KAL), how can they protect thee?
ਕੋਪ ਕਰਾਲ ਕੀ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੁੰਡ ਮੈ ਆਪ ਟੰਗਿਓ ਤਿਮ ਤੋਹਿ ਟੰਗੈਹੈ ॥
kop karaal kee paavak kundd mai aap ttangio tim tohi ttangaihai |
They are all hanging in the blazing fire of anger, therefore they will cause thy hanging similarly.
ਚੇਤ ਰੇ ਚੇਤ ਅਜੋ ਜੀਅ ਮੈਂ ਜੜ ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਾਮ ਨ ਐਹੈ ॥੯੮॥
chet re chet ajo jeea main jarr kaal kripaa bin kaam na aihai |98|
O fool! Ruminate now in thy mind; none will be of any use to thee except the grace of KAL.98.
ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਤ ਹੈ ਨ ਮਹਾ ਪਸੁ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਤਿਹੂੰ ਪੁਰ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
taeh pachhaanat hai na mahaa pas jaa ko prataap tihoon pur maahee |
O foolish beast! Thou doth not recognize Him, Whose Glory hath spread over all the three worlds.
ਪੂਜਤ ਹੈ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਕੇ ਪਰਸੈ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਪਰਾਹੀ ॥
poojat hai paramesar kai jih ke parasai paralok paraahee |
Thou worshippest those as God, by whose touch thou shalt be driven far away from the next world.
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੋ ਪਰਮਾਰਥ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਪਾਪਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਪ ਲਜਾਹੀ ॥
paap karo paramaarath kai jih paapan te at paap lajaahee |
Thou art committing such sins in th name of parmarath (the subtle truth) that by committing them the Great sins may feel shy.
ਪਾਇ ਪਰੋ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੇ ਜੜ ਪਾਹਨ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੯੯॥
paae paro paramesar ke jarr paahan main paramesar naahee |99|
O fool! Fall at the feet of Lord-God, the Lord is not within the stone-idols.99.
ਮੋਨ ਭਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੇਖ ਸਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੁੰਡਾਏ ॥
mon bhaje nahee maan taje nahee bhekh saje nahee moondd munddaae |
The Lord cannot be realized by observing silence, by forsaking pride, by adopting guises and by shaving the head.
ਕੰਠ ਨ ਕੰਠੀ ਕਠੋਰ ਧਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਸੀਸ ਜਟਾਨ ਕੇ ਜੂਟ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
kantth na kantthee katthor dhare nahee sees jattaan ke joott suhaae |
He cannot be realized by wearing Kanthi (a short necklace of small beads of different kinds made of wood or seeds worn by mendicants or ascetics) for severe austerities or Thy making a knot of matted hair on the head.
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੋਂ ਸੁਨ ਲੈ ਚਿਤ ਦੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੀਨ ਦਿਆਲ ਕੀ ਸਾਮ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥
saach kahon sun lai chit dai bin deen diaal kee saam sidhaae |
Listen attentively, I speak Turth, Thou shalt not achieve the target without going under the Refuge of the LORD, Who is ever Merciful to the lowly.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਯਤ ਹੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਨ ਭੀਜਤ ਲਾਂਡ ਕਟਾਏ ॥੧੦੦॥
preet kare prabh paayat hai kripaal na bheejat laandd kattaae |100|
God can only be realized with LOVE, He is not pleased by circumcision.100.
ਕਾਗਦ ਦੀਪ ਸਭੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਰੁ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਨ ਕੀ ਮਸੁ ਕੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
kaagad deep sabhai kar kai ar saat samundran kee mas kai hon |
If all the continents are transformed into paper and all the seven seas into ink
ਕਾਟ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਸਗਰੀ ਲਿਖਬੇ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਲੇਖਨ ਕਾਜ ਬਨੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
kaatt banaasapatee sagaree likhabe hoon ke lekhan kaaj banai hon |
By chopping all the vegetation the pen may be made for the sake of writing
ਸਾਰਸੁਤੀ ਬਕਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਗਨੇਸ ਕੈ ਹਾਥ ਲਿਖੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
saarasutee bakataa kar kai jug kott ganes kai haath likhai hon |
If the goddess Saraswati be made the speaker (of eulogies) and Ganesha be there to write with hands for millions of ages
ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਨ ਤਊ ਤੁਮ ਕੌ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੈਕ ਰਿਝੈ ਹੋਂ ॥੧੦੧॥
kaal kripaan binaa binatee na taoo tum kau prabh naik rijhai hon |101|
Even then, O God! O sword-incannate KAL! Without supplication, none can make Thee pleased even a little.101.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਾਲ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਅਫਜੂ ॥

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
mil satigur sabh dukh geaa har sukh vasiaa man aae |
Meeting the True Guru, all my sufferings have ended, and the Peace of the Lord has come to dwell within my mind.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀਆ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
antar jot pragaaseea ekas siau liv laae |
The Divine Light illuminates my inner being, and I am lovingly absorbed in the One.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ ॥
mil saadhoo mukh aoojalaa poorab likhiaa paae |
Meeting with the Holy Saint, my face is radiant; I have realized my pre-ordained destiny.
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥
gun govind nit gaavane niramal saachai naae |1|
I constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. Through the True Name, I have become spotlessly pure. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
mere man gurasabadee sukh hoe |
O my mind, you shall find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur poore kee chaakaree birathaa jaae na koe |1| rahaau |
Working for the Perfect Guru, no one goes away empty-handed. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
man keea ichhaan pooreea paaeaa naam nidhaan |
The desires of the mind are fulfilled, when the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
antarajaamee sadaa sang karanaihaar pachhaan |
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is always with you; recognize Him as the Creator.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
gur parasaadee mukh aoojalaa jap naam daan isanaan |
By Guru's Grace, your face shall be radiant. Chanting the Naam, you shall receive the benefits of giving charity and taking cleansing baths.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਤਜਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
kaam krodh lobh binasiaa tajiaa sabh abhimaan |2|
Sexual desire, anger and greed are eliminated, and all egotistical pride is abandoned. ||2||
ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮ ॥
paaeaa laahaa laabh naam pooran hoe kaam |
The Profit of the Naam is obtained, and all affairs are brought to fruition.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਦੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh meliaa deea apanaa naam |
In His Mercy, God unites us with Himself, and He blesses us with the Naam.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
aavan jaanaa reh geaa aap hoaa miharavaan |
My comings and goings in reincarnation have come to an end; He Himself has bestowed His Mercy.
ਸਚੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
sach mehal ghar paaeaa gur kaa sabad pachhaan |3|
I have obtained my home in the True Mansion of His Presence, realizing the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
bhagat janaa kau raakhadaa aapanee kirapaa dhaar |
His humble devotees are protected and saved; He Himself showers His Blessings upon us.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
halat palat mukh aoojale saache ke gun saar |
In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਦੇ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
aatth pehar gun saarade rate rang apaar |
Twenty-four hours a day, they lovingly dwell upon His Glories; they are imbued with His Infinite Love.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੮੧॥
paarabraham sukh saagaro naanak sad balihaar |4|11|81|
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Supreme Lord God, the Ocean of Peace. ||4||11||81||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
pooraa satigur je milai paaeeai sabad nidhaan |
If we meet the Perfect True Guru, we obtain the Treasure of the Shabad.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh aapanee japeeai amrit naam |
Please grant Your Grace, God, that we may meditate on Your Ambrosial Naam.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥
janam maran dukh kaatteeai laagai sehaj dhiaan |1|
The pains of birth and death are taken away; we are intuitively centered on His Meditation. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
mere man prabh saranaaee paae |
O my mind, seek the Sanctuary of God.
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har bin doojaa ko nahee eko naam dhiaae |1| rahaau |
Without the Lord, there is no other at all. Meditate on the One and only Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਅਥਾਹੁ ॥
keemat kehan na jaaeeai saagar gunee athaahu |
His Value cannot be estimated; He is the Vast Ocean of Excellence.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਿਲੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੁ ॥
vaddabhaagee mil sangatee sachaa sabad visaahu |
O most fortunate ones, join the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation; purchase the True Word of the Shabad.
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੨॥
kar sevaa sukh saagarai sir saahaa paatisaahu |2|
Serve the Lord, the Ocean of Peace, the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors. ||2||
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
charan kamal kaa aasaraa doojaa naahee tthaau |
I take the Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet; there is no other place of rest for me.
ਮੈ ਧਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai dhar teree paarabraham terai taan rahaau |
I lean upon You as my Support, O Supreme Lord God. I exist only by Your Power.
ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਤੂੰ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥
nimaaniaa prabh maan toon terai sang samaau |3|
O God, You are the Honor of the dishonored. I seek to merge with You. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
har japeeai aaraadheeai aatth pehar govind |
Chant the Lord's Name and contemplate the Lord of the World, twenty-four hours a day.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥
jeea praan tan dhan rakhe kar kirapaa raakhee jind |
He preserves our soul, our breath of life, body and wealth. By His Grace, He protects our soul.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੋਖ ਉਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੮੨॥
naanak sagale dokh utaarian prabh paarabraham bakhasind |4|12|82|
O Nanak, all pain has been washed away, by the Supreme Lord God, the Forgiver. ||4||12||82||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
preet lagee tis sach siau marai na aavai jaae |
I have fallen in love with the True Lord. He does not die, He does not come and go.
ਨਾ ਵੇਛੋੜਿਆ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
naa vechhorriaa vichhurrai sabh meh rahiaa samaae |
In separation, He is not separated from us; He is pervading and permeating amongst all.
ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ॥
deen darad dukh bhanjanaa sevak kai sat bhaae |
He is the Destroyer of the pain and suffering of the meek. He bears True Love for His servants.
ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
acharaj roop niranjano gur melaaeaa maae |1|
Wondrous is the Form of the Immaculate One. Through the Guru, I have met Him, O my mother! ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhaaee re meet karahu prabh soe |
O Siblings of Destiny, make God your Friend.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maaeaa moh pareet dhrig sukhee na deesai koe |1| rahaau |
Cursed is emotional attachment and love of Maya; no one is seen to be at peace. ||1||Pause||
ਦਾਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
daanaa daataa seelavant niramal roop apaar |
God is Wise, Giving, Tender-hearted, Pure, Beautiful and Infinite.
ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਊਚਾ ਵਡਾ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
sakhaa sahaaee at vaddaa aoochaa vaddaa apaar |
He is our Companion and Helper, Supremely Great, Lofty and Utterly Infinite.
ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
baalak biradh na jaaneeai nihachal tis daravaar |
He is not known as young or old; His Court is Steady and Stable.
ਜੋ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jo mangeeai soee paaeeai nidhaaraa aadhaar |2|
Whatever we seek from Him, we receive. He is the Support of the unsupported. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥
jis pekhat kilavikh hireh man tan hovai saant |
Seeing Him, our evil inclinations vanish; mind and body become peaceful and tranquil.
ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਲਾਹਿ ਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥
eik man ek dhiaaeeai man kee laeh bharaant |
With one-pointed mind, meditate on the One Lord, and the doubts of your mind will be dispelled.
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
gun nidhaan navatan sadaa pooran jaa kee daat |
He is the Treasure of Excellence, the Ever-fresh Being. His Gift is Perfect and Complete.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
sadaa sadaa aaraadheeai din visarahu nahee raat |3|
Forever and ever, worship and adore Him. Day and night, do not forget Him. ||3||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਖਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
jin kau poorab likhiaa tin kaa sakhaa govind |
One whose destiny is so pre-ordained, obtains the Lord of the Universe as his Companion.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਸਭੋ ਸਗਲ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥
tan man dhan arapee sabho sagal vaareeai ih jind |
I dedicate my body, mind, wealth and all to Him. I totally sacrifice my soul to Him.
ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਸਦ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
dekhai sunai hadoor sad ghatt ghatt braham ravind |
Seeing and hearing, He is always close at hand. In each and every heart, God is pervading.
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਨੋ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੩॥
akirataghanaa no paaladaa prabh naanak sad bakhasind |4|13|83|
Even the ungrateful ones are cherished by God. O Nanak, He is forever the Forgiver. ||4||13||83||
