ਪੁਨਿ ਪਾਰਥ ਧਨੁ ਲੈ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਕਸਿ ਕੈ ਤੀਛਨ ਬਾਨ ॥
pun paarath dhan lai firio kas kai teechhan baan |
ਮਾਰਤ ਭਯੋ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਤਨ ਮਨਿ ਅਰਿ ਬਧਿ ਹਿਤ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੧੬੨੨॥
maarat bhayo kharrages tan man ar badh hit jaan |1622|
Then Arjuna, taking up his bow, returned and he tightening it, shot a sharp arrow on Kharag Singh, in order to kill him.1622.

ਬਾਨ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਕਉ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਰਿਸਿ ਕੈ ਕਹੀ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਬਾਤੈ ॥
baan lagiyo jab hee tih kau tab hee ris kai kahee bhoopat baatai |
ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਆਗਿ ਬਿਰਾਨੀ ਜਰੈ ਸੁਨ ਰੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਦ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਹਉ ਕਹੋ ਤਾ ਤੈ ॥
kaahe kau aag biraanee jarai sun re mrid moorat hau kaho taa tai |
When the arrow hit the king, he said to Arjuna in anger, “O the warrior of bewitching face! why are you burning in the fire of another person?
ਤਾਹੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਹਨੋ ਤੁਮ ਕਉ ਸਿਖਈ ਜਿਹ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਨ ਕੀ ਘਾਤੈ ॥
taahee samet hano tum kau sikhee jih baan chalaan kee ghaatai |
“I shall kill you alongwith your teacher of archery
ਜਾਹੁ ਚਲੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਛਾਡਤ ਹੋ ਤੁਝਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਨਨਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਤੈ ॥੧੬੨੩॥
jaahu chale grih chhaaddat ho tujh sundar nainan jaan kai naatai |1623|
You have beautiful eyes, therefore you may go home, I leave you.”1623.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਾਰਥ ਕਉ ਰਨਿ ਧਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਕਰ ਲੈ ਅਸਿ ਪੈਨਾ ॥
yau keh bhoopat paarath kau ran dhaae pario kar lai as painaa |
Saying these words to Arjuna, and taking up his sharp sword in his hand, the king fell upon the army
ਸੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਲੁ ਧਾਰਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਮਨ ਰੰਚਕ ਭੈ ਨਾ ॥
sain nihaar mahaa bal dhaar hakaar pario man ranchak bhai naa |
Seeing towards the army, he, the mighty one, becoming completely fearless, challenged the army
ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਅਵਸਾਨ ਗਏ ਛੁਟ ਕੋਊ ਸਕਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਨਾ ॥
satran ke avasaan ge chhutt koaoo sakio kar aayudh lai naa |
Seeing him, the enemies become fearful, they could not hold their weapons
ਮਾਰਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਦਏ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਇਕ ਪਾਨੀ ਹੀ ਪਾਨੀ ਰਟੈ ਕਰਿ ਸੈਨਾ ॥੧੬੨੪॥
maar anek de ran mai ik paanee hee paanee rattai kar sainaa |1624|
He killed many in the war and the whole army shouted ‘water, water.’1624.

ਭਜੀ ਸੈਨ ਜਬ ਪਾਡਵੀ ਕਿਸਨ ਬਿਲੋਕੀ ਨੈਨ ॥
bhajee sain jab paaddavee kisan bilokee nain |
ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਸੋ ਯੌ ਕਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਧਾਵਹੁ ਲੈ ਸੈਨ ॥੧੬੨੫॥
durajodhan so yau kahee tum dhaavahu lai sain |1625|
When Krishna saw the Pandava army running away, he asked Duryodhana to attack.1625.

ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਤੀਆ ਸਜਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਸੈਨ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਓ ॥
yau sun kai har kee bateea saj kai durajodhan sain sidhaario |
Hearing the words of Krishna, Duryodhana marched forward with his bedecked army
ਭੀਖਮ ਆਗੈ ਭਯੋ ਸੰਗ ਭਾਨੁਜ ਦ੍ਰੋਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦਿਜ ਸਾਥ ਪਧਾਰਿਓ ॥
bheekham aagai bhayo sang bhaanuj dron kripaa dij saath padhaario |
There were Bhishma, Dronacharya, Kripacharya etc. with Karana,
ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਅਰਰਾਇ ਸਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਪਾਰਿਓ ॥
dhaae pare araraae sabai tih bhoopat so at hee ran paario |
And all these mighty ones waged a dreadful war with the king Kharag Singh
ਆਗੇ ਹੁਇ ਭੂਪ ਲਰਿਓ ਨ ਡਰਿਓ ਸਭ ਕਉ ਸਰ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਏਕ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੬੨੬॥
aage hue bhoop lario na ddario sabh kau sar ek hee ek prahaario |1626|
The fought fearlessly advancing forward and he discharged one arrow towards each.1626.
ਤਬ ਭੀਖਮ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਓ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥

Then Bhishma got infuriated and discharged many arrows towards king
ਆਵਤ ਬਾਨ ਸੋ ਬਾਨ ਕਟੇ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਮਹਾ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਏ ॥
aavat baan so baan katte kharrages mahaa as lai kar dhaae |
Who intercepting all these arrows ran forward with his sword
ਹੋਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਹ ਜੁਧੁ ਬਡੋ ਰਿਸਿ ਭੀਖਮ ਕੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
hot bhayo teh judh baddo ris bheekham ko nrip bain sunaae |
ਤਉ ਲਖਿ ਹੋ ਹਮਰੇ ਬਲ ਕਉ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਹੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜਾਏ ॥੧੬੨੭॥
tau lakh ho hamare bal kau jab hee jam ke bas ho grih jaae |1627|
In that dreadful war, the king said within the hearing of Bhiashma: ‘You will only know my power, when you reach the abode of Yama.’1627.

ਭਜਤ ਨ ਭੀਖਮ ਜੁਧ ਤੇ ਭੂਪ ਲਖੀ ਇਹ ਗਾਥ ॥
bhajat na bheekham judh te bhoop lakhee ih gaath |
ਸੀਸ ਕਟਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਸੂਤ ਕੋ ਏਕ ਬਾਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੧੬੨੮॥
sees kattio tih soot ko ek baan ke saath |1628|
Kharag Singh saw that Bhishma was not running away from the war, he cut down the head of the charioteer of Bhishma with a single arrow.1628.

ਅਸ੍ਵ ਲੈ ਭੀਖਮ ਕੋ ਭਜਿ ਗੇ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਓ ॥
asv lai bheekham ko bhaj ge tab hee durajodhan kop bhario |
Taking Bhishma (in the chariot), the horses ran away, then Duryodhana was filled with anger
ਸੰਗ ਦ੍ਰੋਣ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਬਰ ਲੈ ਬਰਮਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਾਦਵ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ॥
sang dron ko putr kripaa bar lai baramaakrit jaadav jaae pario |
He fell upon the king alongwith the son of Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Kratavarma and Yadavas etc.
ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਦ੍ਰਉਣ ਹੂੰ ਆਪ ਤਬੈ ਹਠ ਠਾਨਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਹਿ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਓ ॥
dhan baan lai draun hoon aap tabai hatth tthaan rahio neh naik ddario |
ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਕਟਾਰਿਨਿ ਸੂਲਨਿ ਸਾਗਨਿ ਚਕ੍ਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਜੂਝ ਕਰਿਓ ॥੧੬੨੯॥
karavaar kattaarin soolan saagan chakran ko at joojh kario |1629|
Dronacharya himself, taking up his bow and arrows persistently and fearlessly resisted and waged a dreadful war with his sword, dagger, trident, lance, discus etc.1629.
ਕਾਨ ਜੂ ਬਾਚ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਸੋ ॥

tau hee lau jadubeer lee dhan sree kharrages kau bain sunaayo |
Krishna, taking his bow in his hand, said to Kharag Singh, “O food! What if you have waged a dreadful war
ਮਾਰਤ ਹਉ ਹਠਿ ਕੈ ਸਠਿ ਤੋ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੁ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
maarat hau hatth kai satth to kahu kaa bhayo ju at judh machaayo |
I shall now kill you powerfully
ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਲਰਿ ਲੈ ਮਰਿ ਹੈ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਯ ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਆਯੋ ॥
ek gharee lar lai mar hai ab jaanat hau tuy kaal hee aayo |
“You may fight for one ghari (short duration of time), because I know that your death is very near and you have to die
ਚੇਤ ਰੇ ਚੇਤ ਅਜਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਇਉ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੬੩੦॥
chet re chet ajau chit mai har iau keh kai dhan baan chalaayo |1630|
Telling him to remain cautious, Krishna discharged his arrow.1630.

It is the most sublime contemplation, to speak of the Lord of the Universe in the pure Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰਉ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧॥

O Nanak, never forget the Naam, even for a moment; bless me with Your Grace, Lord God! ||1||

The night is wet with dew, and the stars twinkle in the heavens.
ਜਾਗਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
jaageh sant janaa mere raam piaare |
The Saints remain wakeful; they are the Beloveds of my Lord.
ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ॥
raam piaare sadaa jaageh naam simareh anadino |
The Beloveds of the Lord remain ever wakeful, remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night.
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥
charan kamal dhiaan hiradai prabh bisar naahee ik khino |
In their hearts, they meditate on the lotus feet of God; they do not forget Him, even for an instant.
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕਲਮਲਾ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
taj maan mohu bikaar man kaa kalamalaa dukh jaare |
They renounce their pride, emotional attachment and mental corruption, and burn away the pain of wickedness.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥
binavant naanak sadaa jaageh har daas sant piaare |1|
Prays Nanak, the Saints, the beloved servants of the Lord, remain ever wakeful. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਜੜੀਐ ਆਡੰਬਰੁ ਬਣਿਆ ॥
meree sejarreeai aaddanbar baniaa |
My bed is adorned in splendor.
ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਵਤ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥
man anad bheaa prabh aavat suniaa |
My mind is filled with bliss, since I heard that God is coming.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਖਹ ਗਾਮੀ ਚਾਵ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸ ਭਰੇ ॥
prabh mile suaamee sukhah gaamee chaav mangal ras bhare |
Meeting God, the Lord and Master, I have entered the realm of peace; I am filled with joy and delight.
ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਖ ਭਾਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸਭਿ ਹਰੇ ॥
ang sang laage dookh bhaage praan man tan sabh hare |
He is joined to me, in my very fiber; my sorrows have departed, and my body, mind and soul are all rejuvenated.
ਮਨ ਇਛ ਪਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਈ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਸੁਭ ਗਣਿਆ ॥
man ichh paaee prabh dhiaaee sanjog saahaa subh ganiaa |
I have obtained the fruits of my mind's desires, meditating on God; the day of my wedding is auspicious.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਸਗਲ ਆਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak mile sreedhar sagal aanand ras baniaa |2|
Prays Nanak, when I meet the Lord of excellence, I came to experience all pleasure and bliss. ||2||
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਖੀਆ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਕਹੁ ਕੰਤ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ॥
mil sakheea puchheh kahu kant neesaanee |
I meet with my companions and say, "Show me the insignia of my Husband Lord."
ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਰੀ ਕਛੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
ras prem bharee kachh bol na jaanee |
I am filled with the sublime essence of His Love, and I do not know how to say anything.
ਗੁਣ ਗੂੜ ਗੁਪਤ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਨਿਗਮ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥
gun goorr gupat apaar karate nigam ant na paavahe |
The Glorious Virtues of the Creator are profound, mysterious and infinite; even the Vedas cannot find His limits.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥
bhagat bhaae dhiaae suaamee sadaa har gun gaavahe |
With loving devotion, I meditate on the Lord Master, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord forever.
ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਗਿਆਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
sagal gun sugiaan pooran aapane prabh bhaanee |
Filled with all virtues and spiritual wisdom, I have become pleasing to my God.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
binavant naanak rang raatee prem sehaj samaanee |3|
Prays Nanak, imbued with the color of the Lord's Love, I am imperceptibly absorbed into Him. ||3||
ਸੁਖ ਸੋਹਿਲੜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਣ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
sukh sohilarre har gaavan laage |
When I began to sing the songs of rejoicing to the Lord,
ਸਾਜਨ ਸਰਸਿਅੜੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਭਾਗੇ ॥
saajan sarasiarre dukh dusaman bhaage |
My friends became glad, and my troubles and enemies departed.
ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਸਰਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥
sukh sehaj sarase har naam rahase prabh aap kirapaa dhaareea |
My peace and happiness increased; I rejoiced in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and God Himself blessed me with His mercy.
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਨਵਾਰੀਆ ॥
har charan laage sadaa jaage mile prabh banavaareea |
I have grasped the Lord's feet, and remaining ever wakeful, I have met the Lord, the Creator.
ਸੁਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਆਏ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਗੇ ॥
subh divas aae sehaj paae sagal nidh prabh paage |
The appointed day came, and I attained peace and poise; all treasures are in the feet of God.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਤਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥
binavant naanak saran suaamee sadaa har jan taage |4|1|10|
Prays Nanak, the Lord's humble servants always seek the Sanctuary of the Lord and Master. ||4||1||10||

ਉਠਿ ਵੰਞੁ ਵਟਾਊੜਿਆ ਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਿਰੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
autth vany vattaaoorriaa tai kiaa chir laaeaa |
Rise up and go forth, O traveller; why do you delay?
ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੜੀਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੂੜਿ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
muhalat punarreea kit koorr lobhaaeaa |
Your allotted time is now complete - why are you engrossed in falsehood?
ਕੂੜੇ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ ਧੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਅਮਿਤਿਆ ॥
koorre lubhaaeaa dhohu maaeaa kareh paap amitiaa |
You desire that which is false; deceived by Maya, you commit innumerable sins.
ਤਨੁ ਭਸਮ ਢੇਰੀ ਜਮਹਿ ਹੇਰੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਬਪੁੜੈ ਜਿਤਿਆ ॥
tan bhasam dteree jameh heree kaal bapurrai jitiaa |
Your body shall become a pile of dust; the Messenger of Death has spotted you, and will conquer you.
ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵੈਸੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
maal joban chhodd vaisee rahio painan khaaeaa |
Abandoning your wealth and youth, you will have to leave, without any food or clothing.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਲਿਆ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
naanak kamaanaa sang juliaa neh jaae kirat mittaaeaa |1|
O Nanak, only your actions shall go with you; the consequences of your actions cannot be erased. ||1||
ਫਾਥੋਹੁ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਵੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣੁ ॥
faathohu mirag jivai pekh rain chandraaein |
Like the deer, captured on a moon-lit night,
ਸੂਖਹੁ ਦੂਖ ਭਏ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
sookhahu dookh bhe nit paap kamaaein |
so does the constant commission of sins turn pleasure into pain.
ਪਾਪਾ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਘਤਿ ਗਲਾਵਿਆ ॥
paapaa kamaane chhaddeh naahee lai chale ghat galaaviaa |
The sins you have committed shall not leave you; placing the noose around your neck, they shall lead you away.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੇਜਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ ॥
harichandauree dekh mootthaa koorr sejaa raaviaa |
Beholding an illusion, you are deceived, and on your bed, you enjoy a false lover.
ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਭਇਆ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥
lab lobh ahankaar maataa garab bheaa samaaein |
You are intoxicated with greed, avarice and egotism; you are engrossed in self-conceit.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਹ ਮਿਟੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥
naanak mrig agiaan binase neh mittai aavan jaaein |2|
O Nanak, like the deer, you are being destroyed by your ignorance; your comings and goings shall never end. ||2||
ਮਿਠੈ ਮਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਕਿਉ ਲਏ ਓਡਾਰੀ ॥
mitthai makh muaa kiau le oddaaree |
The fly is caught in the sweet candy - how can it fly away?
ਹਸਤੀ ਗਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
hasatee garat peaa kiau tareeai taaree |
The elephant has fallen into the pit - how can it escape?
ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਇਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥
taran duhelaa bheaa khin meh khasam chit na aaeo |
It shall be so difficult to swim across, for one who does not remember the Lord and Master, even for an instant.
ਦੂਖਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
dookhaa sajaaee ganat naahee keea apanaa paaeo |
His sufferings and punishments are beyond reckoning; he receives the consequences of his own actions.
ਗੁਝਾ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਈਤ ਉਤਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
gujhaa kamaanaa pragatt hoaa eet uteh khuaaree |
His secret deeds are exposed, and he is ruined here and hereafter.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਮੂਠਾ ਮਨਮੁਖੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
naanak satigur baajh mootthaa manamukho ahankaaree |3|
O Nanak, without the True Guru, the self-willed egotistical manmukh is defrauded. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਜੀਵੇ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
har ke daas jeeve lag prabh kee charanee |
The Lord's slaves live by holding on to God's feet.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
kantth lagaae lee tis tthaakur saranee |
The Lord and Master embraces those who seek His Sanctuary.
ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
bal budh giaan dhiaan apanaa aap naam japaaeaa |
He blesses them with power, wisdom, knowledge and meditation; He Himself inspires them to chant His Name.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥
saadhasangat aap hoaa aap jagat taraaeaa |
He Himself is the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and He Himself saves the world.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
raakh lee rakhanahaarai sadaa niramal karanee |
The Preserver preserves those whose actions are always pure.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak narak na jaeh kabahoon har sant har kee saranee |4|2|11|
O Nanak, they never have to go to hell; the Lord's Saints are under the Lord's Protection. ||4||2||11||
