ਆਵਤ ਸਰ ਸੋ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਰਿਸਿ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਖੜਗੇਸ ॥
aavat sar so kaatt kai ris boliyo kharrages |
ਮੁਹਿ ਪਉਰਖ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਕਲ ਸੇਸ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਮਹੇਸ ॥੧੬੩੧॥
muhi paurakh jaanat sakal ses sures mahes |1631|
Intercepting the coming arrow, Kharag Singh said furiously, “Sheshnaga, Indra and Shiva know quite nicely about my bravery.1631.

ਭਖ ਜੈਹਉ ਭੂਤਨ ਭਜਾਇ ਦੈਹੋ ਸੁਰਾਸੁਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪਟਿਕੈ ਹੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਅਸਿ ਜੋ ਗਹਉ ॥
bhakh jaihau bhootan bhajaae daiho suraasur sayaam pattikai ho bhoom bhujaa as jo ghau |
I shall devour the ghosts
ਭੈਰਵ ਨਚੈਹਉ ਭਾਰੀ ਜੁਧਹਿ ਮਚੈਹਉ ਪੁਨਿ ਭਾਜ ਹੂੰ ਨ ਜੈਹਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਉ ਕਹਉ ॥
bhairav nachaihau bhaaree judheh machaihau pun bhaaj hoon na jaihau sun saachee har hau khau |
I shall cause the gods and demons to run away and throw Krishna on the ground, such is the power in my arms, by waging a terrible war, I shall cause Bhairava to dance, O Krishna, I am telling the truth that I shall not run away from the war-arena
ਕਹਾ ਦ੍ਰਉਣ ਦਿਜ ਕਉ ਸੰਘਾਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਲ ਮਾਰੋ ਦਲ ਬਲਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਜਮ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਜੋ ਚਹਉ ॥
kahaa draun dij kau sanghaarat na laagai pal maaro dal bal indr jam rudr jo chhau |
It will not take more than a moment to kill Dronacharhya
ਰਾਧਿਕਾ ਰਵਨ ਤਉ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਨ ਜੁਰੇ ਆਜੁ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਐਸੋ ਬੋਲ ਹਉ ਸਹਉ ॥੧੬੩੨॥
raadhikaa ravan tau tere ran jure aaj chhatree kharrages hue kai aiso bol hau shau |1632|
I can kill Indra or Yama alongwith their military power, whomsoever I want to kill, O Krishna! all your kshatriyas engaged in war, I can kill all of them, but being Kharag Singh, I can`t tolerate your said world."1632.

ਤਬਹਿ ਦ੍ਰਉਣ ਰਿਸ ਕੋ ਬਢਾਇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਉਹੈ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
tabeh draun ris ko badtaae nrip sauhai dhaayo |
ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਗਹਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
asatr sasatr geh paan bahut bidh judh machaayo |
Then Dronacharya came angrily before the king and he waged a dreadful war, holding his weapons and arms
ਅਧਿਕ ਸ੍ਰਉਣ ਤਨ ਭਰੇ ਲਰੇ ਭਟ ਘਾਇਲ ਐਸੇ ॥
adhik sraun tan bhare lare bhatt ghaaeil aise |
ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਪਟਿ ਖੇਲਤ ਚਾਚਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥
laal gulaal bhare patt khelat chaachar jaise |
The warriors, getting wounded and a good deal of blood out of their bodies, they appear to have played the Holi with red colour and also wearing red clothes
ਤਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਭੈ ਸੁਰ ਯੌ ਕਹੈ ਧਨਿ ਦਿਜ ਧਨਿ ਸੁ ਭੂਪ ਤੁਅ ॥
tab dekh sabhai sur yau kahai dhan dij dhan su bhoop tua |
ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਨ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਕਹੂੰ ਐਸੇ ਜੁਧ ਨ ਭਯੋ ਭੁਅ ॥੧੬੩੩॥
jug chaaran mai ab lau kahoon aise judh na bhayo bhua |1633|
The gods seeing this hailed Dronacharya and the king Kharag Singh and also said, ”Such a war has not been fought on the earth during the four ages.”1633.

ਘੇਰਿਓ ਤਬ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਕਉ ਪਾਡਵ ਸੈਨ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

ਪਾਰਥ ਭੀਖਮ ਭੀਮ ਦਿਜ ਦ੍ਰਉਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕੁਰ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੬੩੪॥
paarath bheekham bheem dij draun kripaa kur raae |1634|
Then greatly infuriated, Arjuna, Bhishma, Bhima, Dronacharya, Kripacharya and Duryodhana etc. of the Pandava army besieged Kharag Singh.1634.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰ ਖੇਤ ਕਉ ਜੁ ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਚੇਤ ਕਉ ਸੁ ਭਿਛ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਤ ਕਉ ਸੁ ਕੰਕਨ ਜਿਉ ਕਰ ਕੋ ॥
jaise baar khet kau ju kaal faas chet kau su bhichh daan det kau su kankan jiau kar ko |
Just as the fence surrounds the field, death surrounds the donor and the bangle surrounds the hand
ਜੈਸੇ ਦੇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਖ ਸਸਿ ਭਾਨੁ ਕਉ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਉ ਸੁ ਗੋਪੀ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ॥
jaise deh praan kau pravekh sas bhaan kau agiaan jaise giaan kau su gopee jaise har ko |
Just as the body surrounds the vital force Prana, the light surrounds the spheres of sun and moon, nescience surrounds knowledge and gopis surround Krishna.
ਜਿਉ ਤੜਾਗ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਸੁ ਮਾਲਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਜਾਪੁ ਕਉ ਸੋ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਉ ਜਿਉ ਆਲ ਬਾਲ ਤਰੁ ਕੋ ॥
jiau tarraag aap kau su maalaa jaise jaap kau so pun jaise paap kau jiau aal baal tar ko |
Just as the tank surrounds the water, the rosary surrounds the repetition of the name, the virtues surround the vices and the creeper surrounds the cucumber
ਜੈਸੇ ਉਡ ਧ੍ਰੂਅ ਕਉ ਸਮੁਦਰ ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਅ ਕਉ ਸੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਘੇਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਹੈ ਖੜਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰ ਕੋ ॥੧੬੩੫॥
jaise udd dhraooa kau samudar jaise bhooa kau su taise gher leeno hai kharrag singh bar ko |1635|
Just as the sky surrounds the pole star, the ocean surrounds the earth in the same way, these heroes have surrounded the mighty Kharag Singh.1635.

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਵੰਞੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਲਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥
vany mere aalasaa har paas benantee |
Be gone, O my laziness, that I may pray to the Lord.
ਰਾਵਉ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ॥
raavau sahu aapanarraa prabh sang sohantee |
I enjoy my Husband Lord, and look beautiful with my God.
ਸੰਗੇ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਰਾਵੀਐ ॥
sange sohantee kant suaamee dinas rainee raaveeai |
I look beautiful in the Company of my Husband Lord; I enjoy my Lord Master day and night.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਐ ॥
saas saas chitaar jeevaa prabh pekh har gun gaaveeai |
I live by remembering God with each and every breath, beholding the Lord, and singing His Glorious Praises.
ਬਿਰਹਾ ਲਜਾਇਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮਿਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ ॥
birahaa lajaaeaa daras paaeaa amiau drisatt sinchantee |
The pain of separation has grown shy, for I have obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; His Ambrosial Glance of Grace has filled me with bliss.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥
binavant naanak meree ichh punee mile jis khojantee |1|
Prays Nanak, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1||
ਨਸਿ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
nas vanyahu kilavikhahu karataa ghar aaeaa |
Run away, O sins; the Creator has entered my home.
ਦੂਤਹ ਦਹਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥
dootah dehan bheaa govind pragattaaeaa |
The demons within me have been burnt; the Lord of the Universe has revealed Himself to me.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
pragatte gupaal gobind laalan saadhasang vakhaaniaa |
The Beloved Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World has revealed Himself; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant His Name.
ਆਚਰਜੁ ਡੀਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
aacharaj ddeetthaa amiau vootthaa gur prasaadee jaaniaa |
I have seen the Wondrous Lord; He showers His Ambrosial Nectar upon me, and by Guru's Grace, I know Him.
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹ ਅੰਤੁ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
man saant aaee vajee vadhaaee neh ant jaaee paaeaa |
My mind is at peace, resounding with the music of bliss; the Lord's limits cannot be found.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak sukh sehaj melaa prabhoo aap banaaeaa |2|
Prays Nanak, God brings us to union with Himself, in the poise of celestial peace. ||2||
ਨਰਕ ਨ ਡੀਠੜਿਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥
narak na ddeettharriaa simarat naaraaein |
They do not have to see hell, if they remember the Lord in meditation.
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਭਏ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥
jai jai dharam kare doot bhe palaaein |
The Righteous Judge of Dharma applauds them, and the Messenger of Death runs away from them.
ਧਰਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ॥
dharam dheeraj sehaj sukhee saadhasangat har bhaje |
Dharmic faith, patience, peace and poise are obtained by vibrating upon the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਭ ਤਜੇ ॥
kar anugrahu raakh leene moh mamataa sabh taje |
Showering His Blessings, He saves those who renounce all attachments and egotism.
ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਅਘਾਇਣ ॥
geh kantth laae gur milaae govind japat aghaaein |
The Lord embraces us; the Guru unites us with Him. Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, we are satisfied.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇਣ ॥੩॥
binavant naanak simar suaamee sagal aas pujaaein |3|
Prays Nanak, remembering the Lord and Master in meditation, all hopes are fulfilled. ||3||
ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ਤਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਕਾੜਾ ॥
nidh sidh charan gahe taa kehaa kaarraa |
Grasping the Lord's Feet, the treasure of the Siddhas, what suffering can I feel?
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਸਾੜਾ ॥
sabh kichh vas jisai so prabhoo asaarraa |
Everything is in His Power - He is my God.
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਨੇ ਕਰੁ ਧਾਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥
geh bhujaa leene naam deene kar dhaar masatak raakhiaa |
Holding me by the arm, He blesses me with His Name; placing His Hand upon my forehead, He saves me.
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਅਮਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
sansaar saagar neh viaapai amiau har ras chaakhiaa |
The world-ocean does not trouble me, for I have drunk the sublime elixir of the Lord.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਣੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਅਖਾੜਾ ॥
saadhasange naam range ran jeet vaddaa akhaarraa |
In the Saadh Sangat, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am victorious on the great battlefield of life.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜਮਿ ਨ ਉਪਾੜਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
binavant naanak saran suaamee bahurr jam na upaarraa |4|3|12|
Prays Nanak, I have entered the Sanctuary of the Lord and Master; the Messenger of Death shall not destroy me again. ||4||3||12||
