ਨਵ ਨੇਵਰ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਰੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਮਲੰ ॥
nav nevar naad suran nrimalan |
Various kinds of pure tunes emanate from the anklets.
ਮੁਖ ਬਿੱਜੁਲ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਘਣੰ ਪ੍ਰਜੁਲੰ ॥
mukh bijul jvaal ghanan prajulan |
The face appears like the in blaze of lightning the dark clouds.
ਮਦਰਾ ਕਰ ਮੱਤ ਮਹਾ ਭਭਕੰ ॥
madaraa kar mat mahaa bhabhakan |
His gait is like that of an elephant
ਬਨ ਮੈ ਮਨੋ ਬਾਘ ਬਚਾ ਬਬਕੰ ॥੫੩॥
ban mai mano baagh bachaa babakan |53|
Intoxicated with wine. His loud thunder appears like the roar of a cub in the forest.53
ਭਵ ਭੂਤ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਭਵਾਨ ਭਵੰ ॥
bhav bhoot bhavakh bhavaan bhavan |
Thou art in the world in the past
ਕਲ ਕਾਰਣ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਏਕ ਤੁਵੰ ॥
kal kaaran ubaaran ek tuvan |
Future and present. Thou art the ONLY ONE Saviour in the Iron age.
ਸਭ ਠੌਰ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਯੰ ॥
sabh tthauar nirantar nit nayan |
Thou art ever new continuously at all places.
ਮ੍ਰਿਦੁ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਤੁਯੰ ਸੁ ਭਯੰ ॥੫੪॥
mrid mangal roop tuyan su bhayan |54|
Thou appearest impressive and sweet in Thy Blissful form.54.
ਦਿੜ ਦਾੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਲ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਸੇਤ ਉਧੰ ॥
dirr daarrh karaal dvai set udhan |
Thou hast two grinder teeth. Terrible white and high
ਜਿਹ ਭਾਜਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਜੁਧੰ ॥
jih bhaajat dusatt bilok judhan |
Seeing which the tyrants run away from the battlefield.
ਮਦ ਮਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਕਰਾਲ ਧਰੰ ॥
mad mat kripaan karaal dharan |
Thou art inebriated holding the terrible sword in Thy hand
ਜਯ ਸੱਦ ਸੁਰਾਸੁਰਯੰ ਉਚਰੰ ॥੫੫॥
jay sad suraasurayan ucharan |55|
. Both the gods and demons sing the eulogy of His victory.55.
ਨਵ ਕਿੰਕਣ ਨੇਵਰ ਨਾਦ ਹੂਅੰ ॥
nav kinkan nevar naad hooan |
When the united sound of the girdle bells and the anklets emantes
ਚਲ ਚਾਲ ਸਭਾਚਲ ਕੰਪ ਭੂਅੰ ॥
chal chaal sabhaachal kanp bhooan |
Then all the mountains become restless like mercury and the earth trembles.
ਘਣ ਘੁੰਘਰ ਘੰਟਣ ਘੋਰ ਸੁਰੰ ॥
ghan ghunghar ghanttan ghor suran |
When the constant jingling loud sound is heard
ਚਰ ਚਾਰ ਚਰਾਚਰਯੰ ਹੁਹਰੰ ॥੫੬॥
char chaar charaacharayan huharan |56|
Then all the movable and immovable objects become restless.56.
ਚਲ ਚੌਦਹੂੰ ਚੱਕ੍ਰਨ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਫਿਰੰ ॥
chal chauadahoon chakran chakr firan |
Thy weapons are used in all the fourteen worlds alongwith Thy Command the empty ones.
ਬਢਵੰ ਘਟਵੰ ਹਰੀਅੰ ਸੁਭਰੰ ॥
badtavan ghattavan hareean subharan |
With which Thou causest deficiency in the augmented once and fill to the brim
ਜਗ ਜੀਵ ਜਿਤੇ ਜਲਯੰ ਥਲਯੰ ॥
jag jeev jite jalayan thalayan |
All the creatures of the world on land and in water
ਅਸ ਕੋ ਜੁ ਤਵਾਇਸੁਅੰ ਮਲਯੰ ॥੫੭॥
as ko ju tavaaeisuan malayan |57|
Who is the amongst them who hath the audacity to refuse Thy Command? 57.
ਘਟ ਭਾਦਵ ਮਾਸ ਕੀ ਜਾਣ ਸੁਭੰ ॥
ghatt bhaadav maas kee jaan subhan |
Just as the dark cloud seem impressive in the month of Bhadon
ਤਨ ਸਾਵਰੇ ਰਾਵਰੇਅੰ ਹੁਲਸੰ ॥
tan saavare raavarean hulasan |
In the same manner Thy dark body hath its glow.
ਰਦ ਪੰਗਤ ਦਾਮਨੀਅੰ ਦਮਕੰ ॥
rad pangat daamaneean damakan |
The chain of Thy teeth glitters like lightning
ਘਨ ਘੁੰਘਰ ਘੰਟ ਸੁਰੰ ਘਮਕੰ ॥੫੮॥
ghan ghunghar ghantt suran ghamakan |58|
The melody of the small bells and gongs is like the thunder of the clouds. 58.

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਪੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੁਝੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਿ ॥
bhalake utth papoleeai vin bujhe mugadh ajaan |
Arising each day, you cherish your body, but you are idiotic, ignorant and without understanding.
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਛੁਟੈਗੀ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥
so prabh chit na aaeo chhuttaigee bebaan |
You are not conscious of God, and your body shall be cast into the wilderness.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
satigur setee chit laae sadaa sadaa rang maan |1|
Focus your consciousness on the True Guru; you shall enjoy bliss forever and ever. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣਿ ॥
praanee toon aaeaa laahaa lain |
O mortal, you came here to earn a profit.
ਲਗਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੁਫਕੜੇ ਸਭ ਮੁਕਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lagaa kit kufakarre sabh mukadee chalee rain |1| rahaau |
What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night is coming to its end. ||1||Pause||
ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਦਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
kudam kare pas pankheea disai naahee kaal |
The animals and the birds frolic and play-they do not see death.
ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
otai saath manukh hai faathaa maaeaa jaal |
Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya.
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਭਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
mukate seee bhaaleeeh ji sachaa naam samaal |2|
Those who always remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are considered to be liberated. ||2||
ਜੋ ਘਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ਸੋ ਲਗਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jo ghar chhadd gavaavanaa so lagaa man maeh |
That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate-you are attached to it in your mind.
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jithai jaae tudh varatanaa tis kee chintaa naeh |
And that place where you must go to dwell-you have no regard for it at all.
ਫਾਥੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
faathe seee nikale ji gur kee pairee paeh |3|
Those who fall at the Feet of the Guru are released from this bondage. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਰਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
koee rakh na sakee doojaa ko na dikhaae |
No one else can save you-don't look for anyone else.
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥
chaare kunddaa bhaal kai aae peaa saranaae |
I have searched in all four directions; I have come to find His Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਇਆ ਕਢਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੩॥
naanak sachai paatisaeh ddubadaa leaa kadtaae |4|3|73|
O Nanak, the True King has pulled me out and saved me from drowning! ||4||3||73||
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:
ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
gharree muhat kaa paahunaa kaaj savaaranahaar |
For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
maaeaa kaam viaapiaa samajhai naahee gaavaar |
Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand.
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥
autth chaliaa pachhutaaeaa pariaa vas jandaar |1|
He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1||
ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
andhe toon baitthaa kandhee paeh |
You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind?
ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
je hovee poorab likhiaa taa gur kaa bachan kamaeh |1| rahaau |
If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥
haree naahee neh ddadduree pakee vadtanahaar |
The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.
ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥
lai lai daat pahutiaa laave kar teeaar |
Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.
ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jaa hoaa hukam kirasaan daa taa lun miniaa khetaar |2|
When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥
pahilaa pehar dhandhai geaa doojai bhar soeaa |
The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep.
ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
teejai jhaakh jhakhaaeaa chauthai bhor bheaa |
In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived.
ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
kad hee chit na aaeo jin jeeo pindd deea |3|
The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
saadhasangat kau vaariaa jeeo keea kurabaan |
I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
jis te sojhee man pee miliaa purakh sujaan |
Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥
naanak dditthaa sadaa naal har antarajaamee jaan |4|4|74|
Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74||

ਸਭੇ ਗਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਨੁ ਇਕੋ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥
sabhe galaa visaran iko visar na jaau |
Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.
ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
dhandhaa sabh jalaae kai gur naam deea sach suaau |
All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.
ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
aasaa sabhe laeh kai ikaa aas kamaau |
Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
jinee satigur seviaa tin agai miliaa thaau |1|
Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
man mere karate no saalaeh |
O my mind, praise the Creator.
ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabhe chhadd siaanapaa gur kee pairee paeh |1| rahaau |
Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
dukh bhukh neh viaapee je sukhadaataa man hoe |
Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.
ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
kit hee kam na chhijeeai jaa hiradai sachaa soe |
No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jis toon rakheh hath de tis maar na sakai koe |
No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥
sukhadaataa gur seveeai sabh avagan kadtai dhoe |2|
Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||
ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
sevaa mangai sevako laaeean apunee sev |
Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਸਕਤੇ ਤੂਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥
saadhoo sang masakate tootthai paavaa dev |
The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਵ ॥
sabh kichh vasagat saahibai aape karan karev |
Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇਵ ॥੩॥
satigur kai balihaaranai manasaa sabh poorev |3|
I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3||
ਇਕੋ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਜਣੋ ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
eiko disai sajano iko bhaaee meet |
The One appears to be my Companion; the One is my Brother and Friend.
ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਸਾਮਗਰੀ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
eikasai dee saamagaree ikasai dee hai reet |
The elements and the components are all made by the One; they are held in their order by the One.
ਇਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
eikas siau man maaniaa taa hoaa nihachal cheet |
When the mind accepts, and is satisfied with the One, then the consciousness becomes steady and stable.
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਤੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭੫॥
sach khaanaa sach painanaa ttek naanak sach keet |4|5|75|
Then, one's food is the True Name, one's garments are the True Name, and one's Support, O Nanak, is the True Name. ||4||5||75||
