ਹਉ ਜਬ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਚਲਿਓ ਤੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਹਮ ਸਉ ॥
hau jab judh ke kaaj chalio tu akaal kahiyo har joo ham sau |
Hearing these words, Amit Singh said, “When you first started for war, you are talking such things since then
ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਾਨਿ ਕੀਯੋ ਤਬ ਮੈ ਤੁਅ ਹੇਰਿ ਕੈ ਆਯੋ ਹਉ ਅਪਨੀ ਗਉ ॥
tih ko kahiyo kaan keeyo tab mai tua her kai aayo hau apanee gau |
I have not paid any attention to your talk and now I have come to confront you after finding you
ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੀਰ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਜਿ ਸੰਕ ਭਿਰੇ ਦੋਊ ਆਹਵ ਮਉ ॥
tih te nrip beer kahiyo sun kai taj sank bhire doaoo aahav mau |
“Therefore come without any illusion and let us fight against each other
ਧੂਅ ਲੋਕ ਟਰੈ ਗਿਰਿ ਮੇਰੁ ਹਲੈ ਸੁ ਤਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੋ ਟਰਿਹੋ ਨਹੀ ਹਉ ॥੧੨੪੭॥
dhooa lok ttarai gir mer halai su tau tum to ttariho nahee hau |1247|
Even if the Pole Star moves away from its place and the mountain also moves away, but O Krishna! I am not moving away from you.”1247.

ਅਮਿਟ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੋਲਿਓ ਤਬਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਕੋਪੁ ਬਢਾਇ ॥੧੨੪੮॥

Krishna said, “You may take millions of measure, but I shall kill you.” Then Amit Singh spoke in extreme anger,1248

ਹਉ ਨ ਬਕੀ ਬਕ ਨੀਚ ਨਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਖਭਾਸੁਰ ਸੋ ਛਲ ਸਾਥਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਓ ॥
hau na bakee bak neech nahee brikhabhaasur so chhal saath sanghaario |
“I am not Baki or Bakasura or Vrashbhasura, whom you killed with deceit
ਕੇਸੀ ਨ ਹਉ ਗਜ ਧੇਨੁਕ ਨਾਹਿ ਨ ਹਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਨਾਵ੍ਰਤ ਸਿਲਾ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥
kesee na hau gaj dhenuk naeh na hau trinaavrat silaa par ddaario |
I am not Keshi, elephant, Dhenkasura and Tranavarata, whom you knocked down on the stone
ਹਉ ਨ ਅਘਾਸੁਰ ਮੁਸਟ ਚੰਡੂਰ ਸੁ ਕੰਸ ਨਹੀ ਗਹਿ ਕੇਸ ਪਛਾਰਿਓ ॥
hau na aghaasur musatt chanddoor su kans nahee geh kes pachhaario |
“I am also not Aghasura, Mushitak, Chandur and Kansa, whom you overthrew by catching them from their hair
ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਲੀ ਤੁਅ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਿਓ ਕਹੋ ਕਉਨ ਬਲੀ ਬਲੁ ਸੋ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੨੪੯॥
bhraat balee tua naam pario kaho kaun balee bal so tum maario |1249|
Your brother is Balram and you are called mighty, tell me a little, to which mighty warrior you have killed with your own strength.1249.
ਕਾ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਬਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੋਊ ਆਹਵ ਮੈ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਹੈ ॥
kaa chaturaanan mai bal hai joaoo aahav mai ham so ris kai hai |
ਕਉਨ ਖਗੇਸ ਗਨੇਸ ਦਿਨੇਸ ਨਿਸੇਸ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਮੋਨ ਭਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
kaun khages ganes dines nises nihaar kai mon bhajai hai |
“Does Brahma possess such strength that he may fight with me? What are the poor Garuda, Ganesh, Surya, Chandra etc.? All these will run away silently on seeing me
ਸੇਸ ਜਲੇਸ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਧਨੇਸ ਜੂ ਜਉ ਅਰਿ ਹੈ ਤਊ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਛੈ ਹੈ ॥
ses jales sures dhanes joo jau ar hai taoo moh na chhai hai |
“If Sheshanaga, Varuna, Indra, Kuber etc. resist me for some time, they will not harm me even slightly
ਭਾਜਤ ਦੇਵ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਕੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਤੂ ਲਰਿਕਾ ਲਰਿ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੫੦॥
bhaajat dev bilok kai mo kau too larikaa lar kaa fal lai hai |1250|
The gods even run away on seeing me, you are still a child what will you gain by fighting with me?1250.

ਖੋਵਤ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ਕਿਹ ਨਮਿਤ ਤਜਿ ਰਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪਧਾਰੁ ॥
khovat hai jeeo kih namit taj ran sayaam padhaar |
“O Krishna! why are you bent upon losing your life? Leave the battlefield and run away
ਮਾਰਤ ਹੋ ਰਨਿ ਆਜ ਤੁਹਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਬਲਹਿ ਸੰਭਾਰ ॥੧੨੫੧॥
maarat ho ran aaj tuhi apane baleh sanbhaar |1251|
I shall not kill you today with my full strength.”1251.

ਅਬ ਅਕਾਰ ਤੁਅ ਲੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਅਮਿਟ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿਨੁ ਓਪ ॥੧੨੫੨॥
ab akaar tua lop kar amitt singh bin op |1252|
Hearing the words of Amit Singh, Krishna was highly enraged and said, “O Amit Singh! I shall now destroy your body and make you lifeless.”1252.

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
aavan jaanaa kiau rahai kiau melaa hoee |
How can coming and going, the cycle of reincarnation be ended? And how can one meet the Lord?
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੋਈ ॥੧॥
janam maran kaa dukh ghano nit sahasaa doee |1|
The pain of birth and death is so great, in constant skepticism and duality. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਫਿਟੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
bin naavai kiaa jeevanaa fitt dhrig chaturaaee |
Without the Name, what is life? Cleverness is detestable and cursed.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur saadh na seviaa har bhagat na bhaaee |1| rahaau |
One who does not serve the Holy True Guru, is not pleased by devotion to the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
aavan jaavan tau rahai paaeeai gur pooraa |
Coming and going is ended only when one finds the True Guru.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam naam dhan raas dee binasai bhram kooraa |2|
He gives the wealth and capital of the Lord's Name, and false doubt is destroyed. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥
sant janaa kau mil rahai dhan dhan jas gaae |
Joining the humble Saintly beings, let us sing the blessed, blessed Praises of the Lord.
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
aad purakh aparanparaa guramukh har paae |3|
The Primal Lord, the Infinite, is obtained by the Gurmukh. ||3||
ਨਟੂਐ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
nattooai saang banaaeaa baajee sansaaraa |
The drama of the world is staged like the show of a buffoon.
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਉਝਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
khin pal baajee dekheeai ujharat nahee baaraa |4|
For an instant, for a moment, the show is seen, but it disappears in no time at all. ||4||
ਹਉਮੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲਣਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
haumai chauparr khelanaa jhootthe ahankaaraa |
The game of chance is played on the board of egotism, with the pieces of falsehood and ego.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
sabh jag haarai so jinai gurasabad veechaaraa |5|
The whole world loses; he alone wins, who reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||5||
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
jiau andhulai hath ttohanee har naam hamaarai |
As is the cane in the hand of the blind man, so is the Lord's Name for me.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਉਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੬॥
raam naam har ttek hai nis daut savaarai |6|
The Lord's Name is my Support, night and day and morning. ||6||
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
jiau toon raakheh tiau rahaa har naam adhaaraa |
As You keep me, Lord, I live; the Lord's Name is my only Support.
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥
ant sakhaaee paaeaa jan mukat duaaraa |7|
It is my only comfort in the end; the gate of salvation is found by His humble servants. ||7||
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
janam maran dukh mettiaa jap naam muraare |
The pain of birth and death is removed, by chanting and meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨੨॥
naanak naam na veesarai pooraa gur taare |8|22|
O Nanak, one who does not forget the Naam, is saved by the Perfect Guru. ||8||22||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
saasat bed sinmrit sar teraa surasaree charan samaanee |
The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees are contained in the ocean of Your Name; the River Ganges is held in Your Feet.
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
saakhaa teen mool mat raavai toon taan sarab viddaanee |1|
The intellect can understand the world of the three modes, but You, O Primal Lord, are totally astounding. ||1||
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taa ke charan japai jan naanak bole amrit baanee |1| rahaau |
Servant Nanak meditates on His Feet, and chants the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥
tetees karorree daas tumaare ridh sidh praan adhaaree |
Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. You bestow wealth, and the supernatural powers of the Siddhas; You are the Support of the breath of life.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਲਖਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
taa ke roop na jaahee lakhane kiaa kar aakh veechaaree |2|
His beauteous forms cannot be comprehended; what can anyone accomplish by discussing and debating? ||2||
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ॥
teen gunaa tere jug hee antar chaare tereea khaanee |
Throughout the ages, You are the three qualities, and the four sources of creation.
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
karam hovai taa param pad paaeeai kathe akath kahaanee |3|
If You show Your Mercy, then one obtains the supreme status, and speaks the Unspoken Speech. ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
toon karataa keea sabh teraa kiaa ko kare paraanee |
You are the Creator; all are created by You. What can any mortal being do?
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਅਪਣੀ ਸਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥
jaa kau nadar kareh toon apanee saaee sach samaanee |4|
He alone, upon whom You shower Your Grace, is absorbed into the Truth. ||4||
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਲੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
naam teraa sabh koee let hai jetee aavan jaanee |
Everyone who comes and goes chants Your Name.
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥੫॥
jaa tudh bhaavai taa guramukh boojhai hor manamukh firai eaanee |5|
When it is pleasing to Your Will, then the Gurmukh understands. Otherwise, the self-willed manmukhs wander in ignorance. ||5||
ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
chaare ved brahame kau dee parr parr kare veechaaree |
You gave the four Vedas to Brahma, for him to read and read continually, and reflect upon.
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
taa kaa hukam na boojhai bapurraa narak surag avataaree |6|
The wretched one does not understand His Command, and is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||6||
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗਹ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਏ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥
jugah jugah ke raaje kee gaaveh kar avataaree |
In each and every age, He creates the kings, who are sung of as His Incarnations.
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
tin bhee ant na paaeaa taa kaa kiaa kar aakh veechaaree |7|
Even they have not found His limits; what can I speak of and contemplate? ||7||
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
toon sachaa teraa keea sabh saachaa dehi ta saach vakhaanee |
You are True, and all that You do is True. If You bless me with the Truth, I will speak on it.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਹਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੩॥
jaa kau sach bujhaaveh apanaa sahaje naam samaanee |8|1|23|
One whom You inspire to understand the Truth, is easily absorbed into the Naam. ||8||1||23||
