ਮਹਾਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਅਰੁ ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਪੂਜਬੇ ਕਾਜ ॥

ਜਸੁਧਾ ਤ੍ਰੀਯਾ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਅਉ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਏ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਜ ॥੭੫੯॥
jasudhaa treeyaa balibhadr aau sang lee brijaraaj |759|
Krishna is going along with Yashoda and Balram in order to worship the great Rudra and Chandi.759.

ਪੂਜਨ ਕਾਜ ਚਲੈ ਤਜ ਕੈ ਪੁਰ ਗੋਪ ਸਭੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਹਰਖੇ ॥
poojan kaaj chalai taj kai pur gop sabhai man mai harakhe |
The gopas, being pleased, left the city for the worship
ਗਹਿ ਅਛਤ ਧੂਪ ਪਚਾਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀਪਕ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਚੰਡਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਸਰਖੇ ॥
geh achhat dhoop pachaamrit deepak saamuhe chandd sivai sarakhe |
They made offerings of earthen lamps, Panchamrit, milk and rice
ਅਤਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਭੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਦੁਖ ਥੇ ਜੁ ਜਿਤੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਘਰਖੇ ॥
at aanand praapat bhe tin ko dukh the ju jite sabh hee gharakhe |
They were extremely delighted and all their sufferings ended
ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਅਹੀਰਨ ਕੇ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੇ ਸੁਭ ਭਾਗ ਘਰੀ ਇਹ ਮੈ ਪਰਖੇ ॥੭੬੦॥
kab sayaam aheeran ke ju hute subh bhaag gharee ih mai parakhe |760|
According to the poet Shyam, this time is most fortunate for all of them.760.
ਏਕ ਭੁਜੰਗਨ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਬਾ ਕਹੁ ਲੀਲ ਲਯੋ ਤਨ ਨੈਕੁ ਨ ਛੋਰੈ ॥
ek bhujangan kaanrah babaa kahu leel layo tan naik na chhorai |
On this side, a snake swallowed in his mouth the whole body of the father of Krishna
ਸ੍ਰਯਾਹ ਮਨੋ ਅਬਨੂਸਹਿ ਕੋ ਤਰੁ ਕੋਪ ਡਸਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰੈ ॥
srayaah mano abanooseh ko tar kop ddasiyo at hee kar jorai |
That snake was black like the ebonite wood, in great fury, he stung Nand inspite of pleas
ਜਿਉ ਪੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਲਾਤਨ ਮਾਰਤ ਜੋਰ ਕਰੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਝਕ ਝੋਰੈ ॥
jiau pur ke jan laatan maarat jor karai at hee jhak jhorai |
ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਸਭਨੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਬ ਕੂਕ ਕਰੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕੀ ਓਰੈ ॥੭੬੧॥
haar pare sabhano mil kai tab kook karee bhagavaan kee orai |761|
All the people of city tried to rescue the elderly Nand by severe thrashing, but when all were tired and could not rescue, then they began to look towards Krishna and shouted.761.
ਗੋਪ ਪੁਕਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਭਯੈ ॥
gop pukaarat hai mil kai sabh sayaam kahai musaleedhar bhayai |
Gopas and Balram, all together began to shout for Krishna
ਦੋਖ ਕੋ ਹਰਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਆਵਹੁ ਟੇਰਤ ਦੈਤ ਮਰਯੈ ॥
dokh ko harataa karataa sukh aavahu tterat dait marayai |
“Thou art the remover of sufferings and the giver of comforts”
ਮੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਯੋ ਅਹਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਡੇ ਹਮ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਯਾ ਬਧਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਯੈ ॥
mohi grasiyo eh sayaam badde ham roveh yaa badh kaaraj kayai |
Nand also said, “O Krishna, the snake has caught hold of me, either kill him or I shall be killed
ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਜਿਮ ਬੈਦ ਬੁਲਈਅਤ ਭੀਰ ਪਰੇ ਜਿਮ ਬੀਰ ਬੁਲਯੈ ॥੭੬੨॥
rog bhe jim baid buleeat bheer pare jim beer bulayai |762|
” Just as a doctor is called when one catches some ailment, in the same manner, in adversity, the heroes are remembered.762.
ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਨ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਪਹਿ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਛੇਦ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
sun sraunan mai har baat pitaa uh saapeh ko tan chhed kario hai |
ਸਾਪ ਕੀ ਦੇਹ ਤਜੀ ਉਨ ਹੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹ ਧਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
saap kee deh tajee un hoon ik sundar maanukh deh dhario hai |
Hearing the words of his father, Krishna pierced the body of the snake, who manifested himself as a beautiful man (after relinquishing the body of the snake)
ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਜਸ ਉਚ ਮਹਾ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਯਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਉਚਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
taa chhab ko jas uch mahaa kab nai bidh yaa mukh te uchario hai |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਨ ਤੇ ਸਸਿ ਛੀਨ ਲਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੭੬੩॥
maanahu pun prataapan te sas chheen layo rip door kario hai |763|
Describing the grandeur of the spectacle, the poet says that it seems that under the impact of virtuous actions, the glory of the moon, having been snatched, has appeared in this man, ending the enemy.763.
ਬਾਮਨ ਹੋਇ ਗਯੋ ਸੁ ਵਹੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਦਰਸਨ ਹੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ॥
baaman hoe gayo su vahai fun naam sudarasan hai pun jaa ko |
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਹੀ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਹਸਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਕਹੁ ਰੇ ਤੈ ਠਉਰ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ॥
kaanrah kahee bateeyaa has kai tih so kahu re tai tthaur kahaa ko |
When that Brahmin was transformed again into a man named Sudarshan, Krishna asked him smilingly about his real abode,
ਨੈਨ ਨਿਵਾਇ ਮਨੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਸੁ ਜੋਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਕਰਿਓ ਕਰ ਤਾ ਕੋ ॥
nain nivaae manai sukh paae su jor pranaam kario kar taa ko |
ਲੋਗਨ ਕੌ ਬਰਤਾ ਹਰਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਜੋ ਚਹੁੰ ਘਾ ਕੋ ॥੭੬੪॥
logan kau barataa harataa dukh sayaam kahai pat jo chahun ghaa ko |764|
He, being pleased in mind, with bowed eyes and folded hands, he greeted Krishna and said, “O Lord! Thou art the Sustainer and remover of the sufferings of the people and Thou art also the Lord of all the worlds.”764.

ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਰਿਖੀਸੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਤ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਹਾਸਿ ਕਰਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
atr rikheesur ke sut ko at haas kario tih sraap dayo hai |
ਜਾਹਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤੂਅ ਸਾਪ ਸੁ ਹੋ ਬਚਨਾ ਉਨਿ ਯਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਹਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
jaeh kahiyo tooa saap su ho bachanaa un yaa bidh mohi kahio hai |
“I had ridiculed the son of the sage Arti, who had cursed me to become a snake
ਤਾਹੀ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਲਗੇ ਹਮਰੇ ਤਨ ਬਾਮਨ ਤੇ ਅਹਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
taahee ke sraap lage hamare tan baaman te eh sayaam bhayo hai |
His words became true and my body was transformed into that of a black snake
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਤੁਮੈ ਤਨ ਛੂਵਤ ਹੀ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਪਰਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੭੬੫॥
kaanrah tumai tan chhoovat hee tan ko sabh paap paraae gayo hai |765|
O Krishna! with Thy touch, all the sin of my body has been effaced.”765.
ਪੂਜਤ ਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਜਨ ਪੂਜਿ ਸਭੈ ਤਿਹ ਡੇਰਨ ਆਏ ॥
poojat te jag maat sabhai jan pooj sabhai tih dderan aae |
All the people returned to their homes after worshipping the goddess of the world
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮ ਕੋ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਸਭੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਉਪਮਾ ਜਸ ਗਾਏ ॥
kaanrah paraakram ko ur dhaar sabho mil kai upamaa jas gaae |
Everyone praised the power of Krishna
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਸੁਧ ਮਲਾਰ ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਤਾਨ ਬਸਾਏ ॥
soratth saarang sudh malaar bilaaval bheetar taan basaae |
ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੇ ਸੁ ਸਭੈ ਜਨ ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਨ ਹੂੰ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੭੬੬॥
reejh rahe brij ke su sabhai jan reejh rahe jin hoon sun paae |766|
The tune of the musical modes of Soarath, Sarand, Shuddh Malhar and Bilawal was played, hearing which all the men and women of Braja and all others who heard, were pleased.766.

ਪੂਜਿ ਚੰਡ ਕੋ ਭਟ ਬਡੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿ ਦੋਇ ॥
pooj chandd ko bhatt badde ghar aae mil doe |
ਅੰਨ ਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਮਾਤ ਤੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਦਨ ਮੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੭੬੭॥
an khaae kai maat te rahe sadan mai soe |767|
In this way, worshipping Chandi, both the great heroes, Krishna and Balram returned to their home and having their food and drink, they went to sleep.767.

bhojan kai jasudhaa peh te bhatt raat pare soaoo soe rahai hai |
Both the heroes went to sleep after being served dinner by their mother Yashoda
ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਭਏ ਬਨ ਬੀਚ ਗਏ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਜਹ ਡੋਲਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਹੈ ਹੈ ॥
praat bhe ban beech ge utth kai jeh ddolat singh sahai hai |
As the day dawned, they reached the forest, where the lions and rabbits wandered
ਬ੍ਰਿਖਭਾਸੁਰ ਥੋ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਖਰੋ ਜਿਹ ਕੇ ਦੋਊ ਸੀਂਗ ਅਕਾਸ ਖਹੇ ਹੈ ॥
brikhabhaasur tho tih tthaur kharo jih ke doaoo seeng akaas khahe hai |
There a demon named Vrishabhasura was standing, whose both horns were touching the sky
ਦੇਖ ਕੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਕੁਪ ਕੈ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਹਾਥਨ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਗਹੇ ਹੈ ॥੭੬੮॥
dekh kai so har joo kup kai duhoon haathan so kar jor gahe hai |768|
Seeing him, Krishna, in fury, caught hold of his horns with great force.768.
ਸੀਂਗਨ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਡਾਰ ਦਯੋ ਸੁ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਪੈਗ ਪੈ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
seengan te geh ddaar dayo su atthaarah paig pai jaae pario hai |
Catching hold of his horns, Krishna threw him away at a distance of eighteen steps
ਫੇਰਿ ਉਠਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਮਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
fer utthio kar kop manai har ke fir saamuh judh kario hai |
Then he, greatly infuriated, got up and began to fight in front of Krishna
ਫੇਰ ਬਗਾਇ ਦੀਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਕਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਗਿਰਿਓ ਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਉਬਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
fer bagaae deeyo har joo kahee jaae girio su nahee ubario hai |
Krishna once again raised and threw him and he could not get up again
ਮੋਛ ਭਈ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਛੂਵਤ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਲਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੭੬੯॥
mochh bhee tih kee har ke kar chhoovat hee su lariyo na mariyo hai |769|
He attained salvation at the hands of Krishna and expired without a battle.769.

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਤਾ ਕਰਉ ਸੋ ਪਕਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ॥
mataa krau so pakan na deee |
Whatever I resolve, she does not allow it to come to pass.
ਸੀਲ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਖਲੋਈ ॥
seel sanjam kai nikatt khaloee |
She stands blocking the way of goodness and self-discipline.
ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
ves kare bahu roop dikhaavai |
She wears many disguises, and assumes many forms,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਸਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਵਖਿ ਵਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
grihi basan na deee vakh vakh bharamaavai |1|
and she does not allow me to dwell in my own home. She forces me to wander around in different directions. ||1||
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
ghar kee naaeik ghar vaas na devai |
She has become the mistress of my home, and she does not allow me to live in it.
ਜਤਨ ਕਰਉ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਪਰੇਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jatan krau urajhaae parevai |1| rahaau |
If I try, she fights with me. ||1||Pause||
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਆਈ ਆਮਰਿ ॥
dhur kee bhejee aaee aamar |
In the beginning, she was sent as a helper,
ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਜੀਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰ ॥
nau khandd jeete sabh thaan thanantar |
but she has overwhelmed the nine continents, all places and interspaces.
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੋਗ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
tatt teerath na chhoddai jog saniaas |
She has not spared even the river banks, the sacred shrines of pilgrimage, the Yogis and Sannyaasees,
ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸ ॥੨॥
parr thaake sinmrit bed abhiaas |2|
or those who tirelessly read the Simritees and study the Vedas. ||2||
ਜਹ ਬੈਸਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲੇ ਬੈਸੈ ॥
jeh baisau teh naale baisai |
Wherever I sit, she sits there with me.
ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੈ ॥
sagal bhavan meh sabal pravesai |
She has imposed her power upon the whole world.
ਹੋਛੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
hochhee saran peaa rehan na paaee |
Seeking meager protection, I am not protected from her.
ਕਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
kahu meetaa hau kai peh jaaee |3|
Tell me, O my friend: unto whom should I turn for protection? ||3||
ਸੁਣਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
sun upades satigur peh aaeaa |
I heard of His Teachings, and so I have come to the True Guru.
ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
gur har har naam mohi mantru drirraaeaa |
The Guru has implanted the Mantra of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, within me.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
nij ghar vasiaa gun gaae anantaa |
And now, I dwell in the home of my own inner self; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੪॥
prabh milio naanak bhe achintaa |4|
I have met God, O Nanak, and I have become care-free. ||4||
ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ghar meraa ih naaeik hamaaree |
My home is now my own, and she is now my mistress.
ਇਹ ਆਮਰਿ ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਦਰਬਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

She is now my servant, and the Guru has made me intimate with the Lord. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਤਾ ਜਿ ਪਤ੍ਰੀ ਚਲਾਵਉ ॥
prathame mataa ji patree chalaavau |
First, they advised me to send a letter.
ਦੁਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹੁਚਾਵਉ ॥
dutee mataa due maanukh pahuchaavau |
Second, they advised me to send two men.
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਉ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
tritee mataa kichh krau upaaeaa |
Third, they advised me to make the effort and do something.
ਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਹੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
mai sabh kichh chhodd prabh tuhee dhiaaeaa |1|
But I have renounced everything, and I meditate only on You, God. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
mahaa anand achint sahajaaeaa |
Now, I am totally blissful, carefree and at ease.
ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dusaman doot mue sukh paaeaa |1| rahaau |
The enemies and evil-doers have perished, and I have obtained peace. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥

The True Guru has imparted the Teachings to me.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
jeeo pindd sabh har kaa des |
My soul, body and everything belong to the Lord.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੀ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
jo kichh karee su teraa taan |
Whatever I do, is by Your Almighty Power.
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
toon meree ott toonhai deebaan |2|
You are my only Support, You are my only Court. ||2||
ਤੁਧਨੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈਂ ਧਰਿ ॥
tudhano chhodd jaaeeai prabh kain dhar |
If I were to renounce You, God, unto whom could I turn?
ਆਨ ਨ ਬੀਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਮਸਰਿ ॥
aan na beea teree samasar |
There is no other, comparable to You.
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
tere sevak kau kis kee kaan |
Who else is Your servant to serve?
ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥੩॥
saakat bhoolaa firai bebaan |3|
The faithless cynics are deluded; they wander around in the wilderness. ||3||
ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
teree vaddiaaee kahee na jaae |
Your Glorious Greatness cannot be described.
ਜਹ ਕਹ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
jeh keh raakh laihi gal laae |
Wherever I am, you save me, hugging me close in Your embrace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
naanak daas teree saranaaee |
Nanak, Your slave, has entered Your Sanctuary.
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਪੈਜ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥੪॥੫॥
prabh raakhee paij vajee vaadhaaee |4|5|
God has preserved his honor, and congratulations are pouring in. ||4||5||
