ਭਭਜਿ ਭੀਤਣੋ ਭਟੰ ਤਤਜਿ ਭਰਥਣੋ ਭੂਅੰ ॥
bhabhaj bheetano bhattan tataj bharathano bhooan |
ਗਿਰੰਤ ਲੁਥਤੰ ਉਠੰ ਰੁਰੋਦ ਰਾਘਵੰ ਤਟੰ ॥
girant luthatan utthan rurod raaghavan tattan |
The warriors fled leaving Bharat fallen on the earth and rising and falling over corpses they came to Ram.
ਜੁਝੇ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਭਰਥਣੋ ਸੁਣੰਤ ਜਾਨਕੀ ਪਤੰ ॥
jujhe su bhraat bharathano sunant jaanakee patan |
ਪਪਾਤ ਭੂਮਿਣੋ ਤਲੰ ਅਪੀੜ ਪੀੜਤੰ ਦੁਖੰ ॥੭੯੫॥
papaat bhoomino talan apeerr peerratan dukhan |795|
When Ram came to Know of the death of Bharat, then highly anguished with sorrows he fell down of the earth.795.
ਸਸਜ ਜੋਧਣੰ ਜੁਧੀ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਬਧਣੋ ਬਰੰ ॥
sasaj jodhanan judhee su krudh badhano baran |
ਤਤਜਿ ਜਗ ਮੰਡਲੰ ਅਦੰਡ ਦੰਡਣੋ ਨਰੰ ॥

Ram himself started for war in great fury after decorating his army of warriors in order to kill the brave fighters and punish the unpunished
ਸੁ ਗਜ ਬਜ ਬਾਜਣੋ ਉਠੰਤ ਭੈ ਧਰੀ ਸੁਰੰ ॥
su gaj baj baajano utthant bhai dharee suran |
ਸਨਧ ਬਧ ਖੈ ਦਲੰ ਸਬਧ ਜੋਧਣੋ ਬਰੰ ॥੭੯੬॥
sanadh badh khai dalan sabadh jodhano baran |796|
Hearing the voices of the elephants and the horses, the gods also became fearful and in this army there were several heroes who could destroy the bedecked forces.796.
ਚਚਕ ਚਾਵਡੀ ਨਭੰ ਫਿਕੰਤ ਫਿੰਕਰੀ ਧਰੰ ॥

ਭਖੰਤ ਮਾਸ ਹਾਰਣੰ ਬਮੰਤ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਦੁਰਗਯੰ ॥

Roaming in he sky, the vultures began to move on the earth, the goddess Durga, appeared showering innumerable fires and eating the flesh.
ਪੁਅੰਤ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਸਿਰੰ ਨਚੰਤ ਈਸਣੋ ਰਣੰ ॥

It seemed that Shiva, the lord of Parvati, was engaged in Tandava dance in the battlefield. The heinous shouts of ghosts, fiends and brave Vaitals are being heard.797.

The warriors began to fight, the arrows were showered, the limbs were chopped and the saddles of the horses were torn.798.

The warriors began to run on being shot by arrows the sbode of Dharma (Ram) saw all this.799.

Being enraged the warriors began to fight and said, “Arrest and bind these boys quickly.”800.

The boys fearlessly discharged arrows with which the warriors fell and very enduring ones fled away.802.

The warriors of chopped limbs fell in the field, they were looking extremely magnificent.803.

They are running away without seeing anything they are leaving even Ram, the abode of Dharma.804.

The warriors, disguising themselves, loosening their hair and forsaking their weapons, are running away by the sides of the battlefield.805.
ਜਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕਉ ਲੈਨਿ ਤੂ ਆਇਆ ॥
jis vakhar kau lain too aaeaa |
This merchandise, which you have come to obtain
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
raam naam santan ghar paaeaa |
- the Lord's Name is obtained in the home of the Saints.
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੋਲਿ ॥
taj abhimaan lehu man mol |
Renounce your egotistical pride, and with your mind,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਤੋਲਿ ॥
raam naam hirade meh tol |
Purchase the Lord's Name - measure it out within your heart.
ਲਾਦਿ ਖੇਪ ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਾਲੁ ॥
laad khep santah sang chaal |
Load up this merchandise, and set out with the Saints.
ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
avar tiaag bikhiaa janjaal |
Give up other corrupt entanglements.
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
dhan dhan kahai sabh koe |
"Blessed, blessed", everyone will call you,
ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਇ ॥
mukh aoojal har daragah soe |
and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord.
ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੈ ॥
eihu vaapaar viralaa vaapaarai |
In this trade, only a few are trading.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੫॥
naanak taa kai sad balihaarai |5|
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||5||
ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ ॥
charan saadh ke dhoe dhoe peeo |
Wash the feet of the Holy, and drink in this water.
ਅਰਪਿ ਸਾਧ ਕਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
arap saadh kau apanaa jeeo |
Dedicate your soul to the Holy.
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
saadh kee dhoor karahu isanaan |
Take your cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਸਾਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
saadh aoopar jaaeeai kurabaan |
To the Holy, make your life a sacrifice.
ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
saadh sevaa vaddabhaagee paaeeai |
Service to the Holy is obtained by great good fortune.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
saadhasang har keeratan gaaeeai |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is sung.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਘਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
anik bighan te saadhoo raakhai |
From all sorts of dangers, the Saint saves us.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
har gun gaae amrit ras chaakhai |
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, we taste the ambrosial essence.
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੰਤਹ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ott gahee santah dar aaeaa |
Seeking the Protection of the Saints, we have come to their door.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
sarab sookh naanak tih paaeaa |6|
All comforts, O Nanak, are so obtained. ||6||
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਜੀਵਾਲਨਹਾਰ ॥
miratak kau jeevaalanahaar |
He infuses life back into the dead.
ਭੂਖੇ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਤ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
bhookhe kau devat adhaar |
He gives food to the hungry.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab nidhaan jaa kee drisattee maeh |
All treasures are within His Glance of Grace.
ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਹਣਾ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
purab likhe kaa lahanaa paeh |
People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
sabh kichh tis kaa ohu karanai jog |
All things are His; He is the Doer of all.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਆ ਨ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
tis bin doosar hoaa na hog |
Other than Him, there has never been any other, and there shall never be.
ਜਪਿ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣੀ ॥
jap jan sadaa sadaa din rainee |
Meditate on Him forever and ever, day and night.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਇਹ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
sabh te aooch niramal ih karanee |
This way of life is exalted and immaculate.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
kar kirapaa jis kau naam deea |
One whom the Lord, in His Grace, blesses with His Name
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੭॥
naanak so jan niramal theea |7|
- O Nanak, that person becomes immaculate and pure. ||7||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
jaa kai man gur kee parateet |
One who has faith in the Guru in his mind
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
tis jan aavai har prabh cheet |
comes to dwell upon the Lord God.
ਭਗਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥
bhagat bhagat suneeai tihu loe |
He is acclaimed as a devotee, a humble devotee throughout the three worlds.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kai hiradai eko hoe |
The One Lord is in his heart.
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਹਤ ॥
sach karanee sach taa kee rehat |
True are his actions; true are his ways.
ਸਚੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਤਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹਤ ॥
sach hiradai sat mukh kehat |
True is his heart; Truth is what he speaks with his mouth.
ਸਾਚੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
saachee drisatt saachaa aakaar |
True is his vision; true is his form.
ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
sach varatai saachaa paasaar |
He distributes Truth and he spreads Truth.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
paarabraham jin sach kar jaataa |
One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God as True
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੫॥
naanak so jan sach samaataa |8|15|
- O Nanak, that humble being is absorbed into the True One. ||8||15||

ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
roop na rekh na rang kichh trihu gun te prabh bhin |
He has no form, no shape, no color; God is beyond the three qualities.
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥੧॥
tiseh bujhaae naanakaa jis hovai suprasan |1|
They alone understand Him, O Nanak, with whom He is pleased. ||1||

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥

Keep the Immortal Lord God enshrined within your mind.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥
maanukh kee too preet tiaag |
Renounce your love and attachment to people.
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis te parai naahee kichh koe |
Beyond Him, there is nothing at all.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
sarab nirantar eko soe |
The One Lord is pervading among all.
ਆਪੇ ਬੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾ ॥
aape beenaa aape daanaa |
He Himself is All-seeing; He Himself is All-knowing,
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਗਹੀਰੁ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ॥
gahir ganbheer gaheer sujaanaa |
Unfathomable, Profound, Deep and All-knowing.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
paarabraham paramesur gobind |
He is the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, the Lord of the Universe,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਬਖਸੰਦ ॥
kripaa nidhaan deaal bakhasand |
the Treasure of mercy, compassion and forgiveness.
ਸਾਧ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਉ ॥
saadh tere kee charanee paau |
To fall at the Feet of Your Holy Beings
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਅਨਰਾਉ ॥੧॥
naanak kai man ihu anaraau |1|
- this is the longing of Nanak's mind. ||1||
