DOHRA

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਦਿਸਨ ਜੋਧਾ ਹਰੈ ਪਰਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਦੁਐ ਜਾਮ ॥

duhoon disan jodhaa harai parayo judh duai jaam |

The warriors of both sides were killed and for two pehars (about six houts) the war continued

ਜੂਝ ਸਕਲ ਸੈਨਾ ਗਈ ਰਹਿਗੇ ਏਕਲ ਰਾਮ ॥੮੦੬॥

joojh sakal sainaa gee rahige ekal raam |806|

All the forces of Ram were killed and now he survived alone.806.

ਤਿਹੂ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਹਨਯੋ ਅਰ ਸਭ ਦਲਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥

tihoo bhraat bin bhai hanayo ar sabh daleh sanghaar |

Lava and Kusha killed the three brothers and

ਲਵ ਅਰੁ ਕੁਸ ਜੂਝਨ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਲੀਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਹਕਾਰ ॥੮੦੭॥

lav ar kus joojhan nimit leeno raam hakaar |807|

Their forces fearlessly and now they challenged Ram.807.

ਸੈਨਾ ਸਕਲ ਜੁਝਾਇ ਕੈ ਕਤਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਛਪ ਜਾਇ ॥

sainaa sakal jujhaae kai kat baitthe chhap jaae |

The boys (of the sage) said to Ram, “O, the King of Kaushal!

ਅਬ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਤੁਮਹੂੰ ਲਰੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਕਉਸਲ ਰਾਇ ॥੮੦੮॥

ab ham so tumahoon laro sun sun kausal raae |808|

You have got all your army killed and where are you hiding now? Now come and fight with us.”808.

ਨਿਰਖ ਬਾਲ ਨਿਜ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹੇ ਬੈਨ ਮੁਸਕਾਇ ॥

nirakh baal nij roop prabh kahe bain musakaae |

ਕਵਨ ਤਾਤ ਬਾਲਕ ਤੁਮੈ ਕਵਨ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੮੦੯॥

kavan taat baalak tumai kavan tihaaree maae |809|

Seeing the children as his own replica, Ram asked smilingly, “O boys! who are your parents?”809.

ਮਿਥਲਾ ਪੁਰ ਰਾਜਾ ॥

ਤਿਹ ਸਿਸ ਸੀਤਾ ॥

ਅਤਿ ਸੁਭ ਗੀਤਾ ॥੮੧੦॥

“Sita, the daughter of the king Janak of Mithilapur is beautiful like a propitious song 810

ਸੋ ਬਨਿ ਆਏ ॥

so ban aae |

ਤਿਹ ਹਮ ਜਾਏ ॥

tih ham jaae |

ਹੈਂ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥

hain due bhaaee |

ਸੁਨਿ ਰਘੁਰਾਈ ॥੮੧੧॥

sun raghuraaee |811|

“O the king of Raghu clan! she has come to the forest and given birth to us and we are two brothers.”811.

ਸੁਨਿ ਸੀਅ ਰਾਨੀ ॥

sun seea raanee |

ਰਘੁਬਰ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

raghubar jaanee |

ਚਿਤ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੀ ॥

chit pahichaanee |

ਮੁਖ ਨ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥੮੧੨॥

mukh na bakhaanee |812|

When Sita heard and came to know about Ram, she then, even recognizing him, did not utter a word from her mouth.812.

ਤਿਹ ਸਿਸ ਮਾਨਯੋ ॥

tih sis maanayo |

ਅਤਿ ਬਲ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

at bal jaanayo |

ਹਠਿ ਰਣ ਕੀਨੋ ॥

hatth ran keeno |

ਕਹ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੮੧੩॥

keh nahee deeno |813|

She forbade her sons and told them, “Ram is extremely mighty, you are persistently waging a war against him.” Saying this even Sita did not say the whole thing.813.

ਕਸਿ ਸਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

kas sar maare |

ਸਿਸ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਰੇ ॥

sis nahee haare |

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

bahu bidh baanan |

ਅਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਣੰ ॥੮੧੪॥

at dhan taanan |814|

Those boys did not retreat and accept defeat and discharged their arrows with full force after stretching their bows.814.

ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ॥

ਸਭ ਤਨ ਛੇਦੇ ॥

sabh tan chhede |

ਸਭ ਦਲ ਸੂਝੇ ॥

sabh dal soojhe |

ਰਘੁਬਰ ਜੂਝੇ ॥੮੧੫॥

Al the limbs of Ram were pierced and his whole body eroded, the whole army came to know this that Ram had passed away.815.

ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

jab prabh maare |

ਸਭ ਦਲ ਹਾਰੇ ॥

sabh dal haare |

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਗੇ ॥

bahu bidh bhaage |

ਦੁਐ ਸਿਸ ਆਗੇ ॥੮੧੬॥

duai sis aage |816|

When Ram passed away, then the whole army began to flee accordingly in front of those two boys.816.

ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਨਿਹਾਰੈਂ ॥

fir na nihaarain |

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨ ਚਿਤਾਰੈਂ ॥

prabhoo na chitaarain |

ਗ੍ਰਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥

grah dis leenaa |

ਅਸ ਰਣ ਕੀਨਾ ॥੮੧੭॥

as ran keenaa |817|

They were not even turning around to see Ram, and being helpless they fled away to whichever side they could.817.

Raag GaureeGuru Guru Arjan

ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਨਾ ਜੋਗ ॥

manasaa pooran saranaa jog |

He is the Fulfiller of wishes, who can give us Sanctuary;

ਜੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਗੁ ॥

jo kar paaeaa soee hog |

That which He has written, comes to pass.

ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਫੋਰੁ ॥

haran bharan jaa kaa netr for |

He destroys and creates in the twinkling of an eye.

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਹੋਰੁ ॥

tis kaa mantru na jaanai hor |

No one else knows the mystery of His ways.

ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਦ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥

anad roop mangal sad jaa kai |

He is the embodiment of ecstasy and everlasting joy.

ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਸੁਨੀਅਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥

sarab thok suneeeh ghar taa kai |

I have heard that all things are in His home.

ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ॥

raaj meh raaj jog meh jogee |

Among kings, He is the King; among yogis, He is the Yogi.

ਤਪ ਮਹਿ ਤਪੀਸਰੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੋਗੀ ॥

tap meh tapeesar grihasat meh bhogee |

Among ascetics, He is the Ascetic; among householders, He is the Enjoyer.

ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਭਗਤਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

dhiaae dhiaae bhagatah sukh paaeaa |

By constant meditation, His devotee finds peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

naanak tis purakh kaa kinai ant na paaeaa |2|

O Nanak, no one has found the limits of that Supreme Being. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

jaa kee leelaa kee mit naeh |

There is no limit to His play.

ਸਗਲ ਦੇਵ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਵਗਾਹਿ ॥

sagal dev haare avagaeh |

All the demigods have grown weary of searching for it.

ਪਿਤਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੂਤੁ ॥

pitaa kaa janam ki jaanai poot |

What does the son know of his father's birth?

ਸਗਲ ਪਰੋਈ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਸੂਤਿ ॥

sagal paroee apunai soot |

All are strung upon His string.

ਸੁਮਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਦੇਇ ॥

sumat giaan dhiaan jin dee |

He bestows good sense, spiritual wisdom and meditation,

ਜਨ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥

jan daas naam dhiaaveh see |

On His humble servants and slaves who meditate on the Naam.

ਤਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥

tihu gun meh jaa kau bharamaae |

He leads some astray in the three qualities;

ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

janam marai fir aavai jaae |

they are born and die, coming and going over and over again.

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ॥

aooch neech tis ke asathaan |

The high and the low are His places.

ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਾਵੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨ ॥੩॥

jaisaa janaavai taisaa naanak jaan |3|

As He inspires us to know Him, O Nanak, so is He known. ||3||

Raag GaureeGuru Guru Arjan

ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥

naanaa roop naanaa jaa ke rang |

Many are His forms; many are His colors.

ਨਾਨਾ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ॥

naanaa bhekh kareh ik rang |

Many are the appearances which He assumes, and yet He is still the One.

ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥

naanaa bidh keeno bisathaar |

In so many ways, He has extended Himself.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

prabh abinaasee ekankaar |

The Eternal Lord God is the One, the Creator.

ਨਾਨਾ ਚਲਿਤ ਕਰੇ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

naanaa chalit kare khin maeh |

He performs His many plays in an instant.

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥

poor rahio pooran sabh tthaae |

The Perfect Lord is pervading all places.

ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਨਤ ਬਨਾਈ ॥

naanaa bidh kar banat banaaee |

In so many ways, He created the creation.

ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਈ ॥

apanee keemat aape paaee |

He alone can estimate His worth.

ਸਭ ਘਟ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਠਾਉ ॥

sabh ghatt tis ke sabh tis ke tthaau |

All hearts are His, and all places are His.

ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥

jap jap jeevai naanak har naau |4|

Nanak lives by chanting, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||4||

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੰਤ ॥

naam ke dhaare sagale jant |

The Naam is the Support of all creatures.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥

naam ke dhaare khandd brahamandd |

The Naam is the Support of the earth and solar systems.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

naam ke dhaare simrit bed puraan |

The Naam is the Support of the Simritees, the Vedas and the Puraanas.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸੁਨਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ॥

naam ke dhaare sunan giaan dhiaan |

The Naam is the Support by which we hear of spiritual wisdom and meditation.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਆਗਾਸ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥

naam ke dhaare aagaas paataal |

The Naam is the Support of the Akaashic ethers and the nether regions.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਆਕਾਰ ॥

naam ke dhaare sagal aakaar |

The Naam is the Support of all bodies.

ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਸਭ ਭਵਨ ॥

naam ke dhaare pureea sabh bhavan |

The Naam is the Support of all worlds and realms.

ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥

naam kai sang udhare sun sravan |

Associating with the Naam, listening to it with the ears, one is saved.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਨੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਏ ॥

kar kirapaa jis aapanai naam laae |

Those whom the Lord mercifully attaches to His Naam

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥

naanak chauthe pad meh so jan gat paae |5|

- O Nanak, in the fourth state, those humble servants attain salvation. ||5||

ਰੂਪੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥

roop sat jaa kaa sat asathaan |

His form is true, and true is His place.

ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥

purakh sat keval paradhaan |

His personality is true - He alone is supreme.

ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

karatoot sat sat jaa kee baanee |

His acts are true, and true is His Word.

ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

sat purakh sabh maeh samaanee |

The True Lord is permeating all.

ਸਤਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਤਿ ॥

sat karam jaa kee rachanaa sat |

True are His actions; His creation is true.

ਮੂਲੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥

mool sat sat utapat |

His root is true, and true is what originates from it.

ਸਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ॥

sat karanee niramal niramalee |

True is His lifestyle, the purest of the pure.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਭਲੀ ॥

jiseh bujhaae tiseh sabh bhalee |

All goes well for those who know Him.

ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥

sat naam prabh kaa sukhadaaee |

The True Name of God is the Giver of peace.

ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥

bisvaas sat naanak gur te paaee |6|

Nanak has obtained true faith from the Guru. ||6||

ਸਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥

sat bachan saadhoo upades |

True are the Teachings, and the Instructions of the Holy.

ਸਤਿ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ॥

sat te jan jaa kai ridai praves |

True are those into whose hearts He enters.

ਸਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥

sat nirat boojhai je koe |

One who knows and loves the Truth

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

naam japat taa kee gat hoe |

chanting the Naam, he obtains salvation.

ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿ ॥

aap sat keea sabh sat |

He Himself is True, and all that He has made is true.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਗਤਿ ॥

aape jaanai apanee mit gat |

He Himself knows His own state and condition.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥

jis kee srisatt su karanaihaar |

He is the Creator Lord of His world.

ਅਵਰ ਨ ਬੂਝਿ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

avar na boojh karat beechaar |

No one else understands Him, although they may try.

ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੀਆ ॥

karate kee mit na jaanai keea |

The created cannot know the extent of the Creator.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਵਰਤੀਆ ॥੭॥

naanak jo tis bhaavai so varateea |7|

O Nanak, whatever pleases Him comes to pass. ||7||
