BAHORA STANZA
ਲੰਕੇਸ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਮੋ ਤਕ ਬਾਨ ॥
lankes ke ur mo tak baan |
ਮਾਰਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਸਤ ਜਿ ਕਾਨ ॥
maarayo raam sisat ji kaan |
The sons of Ram pulling their bows shot an arrow in the heart of the king of Lanka
ਤਬ ਗਿਰਯੋ ਦਾਨਵ ਸੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਧ ॥
tab girayo daanav su bhoom madh |
ਤਿਹ ਬਿਸੁਧ ਜਾਣ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਯੋ ਬਧ ॥੭੮੫॥
tih bisudh jaan nahee keeyo badh |785|
That demon fell down on the earth and considering him unconscious, the boys did not kill him.785.
ਤਬ ਰੁਕਯੋ ਤਾਸ ਸੁਗ੍ਰੀਵ ਆਨ ॥
tab rukayo taas sugreev aan |
ਕਹਾ ਜਾਤ ਬਾਲ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਸ ਜਾਨ ॥
kahaa jaat baal nahee pais jaan |
Then Sugriva came and stopped there and said, “O boys! where are you going? You cannot get away and remain safe.”
ਤਬ ਹਣਯੋ ਬਾਣ ਤਿਹ ਭਾਲ ਤਕ ॥
tab hanayo baan tih bhaal tak |
ਤਿਹ ਲਗਯੋ ਭਾਲ ਮੋ ਰਹਯੋ ਚਕ ॥੭੮੬॥
tih lagayo bhaal mo rahayo chak |786|
Then the boys of the sage made a target of his forehead and shot his arrow which struck his forehead and feeling the sharpness of the arrow, he became actionless.786.
ਚਪ ਚਲੀ ਸੈਣ ਕਪਣੀ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ॥
chap chalee sain kapanee su krudh |
ਨਲ ਨੀਲ ਹਨੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਸੁ ਜੁਧ ॥
nal neel hanoo angad su judh |
On seeing this the whole army was pressed and in great fury, they began to fight alongwith Nal, Neel, Hanuman and Angad
ਤਬ ਤੀਨ ਤੀਨ ਲੈ ਬਾਲ ਬਾਨ ॥
tab teen teen lai baal baan |
ਤਿਹ ਹਣੋ ਭਾਲ ਮੋ ਰੋਸ ਠਾਨ ॥੭੮੭॥
tih hano bhaal mo ros tthaan |787|
Then the boys took three arrows each and shot them on the foreheads of all.787.
ਜੋ ਗਏ ਸੂਰ ਸੋ ਰਹੇ ਖੇਤ ॥
jo ge soor so rahe khet |
ਜੋ ਬਚੇ ਭਾਜ ਤੇ ਹੁਇ ਅਚੇਤ ॥
jo bache bhaaj te hue achet |
Those who remained in the field, they embraced death an those who survived lost their senses and ran away
ਤਬ ਤਕਿ ਤਕਿ ਸਿਸ ਕਸਿ ਬਾਣ ॥
tab tak tak sis kas baan |
ਦਲ ਹਤਯੋ ਰਾਘਵੀ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਣਿ ॥੭੮੮॥
dal hatayo raaghavee taj kaan |788|
Then those boys tightly shot their arrows on their arrows on their targets and destroyed fearlessly the forces of Ram.788.

ANOOP NIRAAJ STANZA
ਸੁ ਕੋਪਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਬਲੰ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਰਾਘਵੀ ਸਿਸੰ ॥
su kop dekh kai balan su krudh raaghavee sisan |
ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਤ ਸਰੰ ਬਬਰਖ ਬਰਖਣੋ ਰਣੰ ॥
bachitr chitrat saran babarakh barakhano ranan |
Seeing the strength and rage of the boys (sons) of Ram and visualizing that volley of arrows in that wonderful type of war,
ਭਭਜਿ ਆਸੁਰੀ ਸੁਤੰ ਉਠੰਤ ਭੇਕਰੀ ਧੁਨੰ ॥
bhabhaj aasuree sutan utthant bhekaree dhunan |
ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤ ਕੁੰਡਲੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਤੰ ਪਪੀੜ ਦਾਰਣੰ ਸਰੰ ॥੭੮੯॥
bhramant kunddalee kritan papeerr daaranan saran |789|
The army of demons, raising terrible sound, fled away and wandered circularly.789.
ਘੁਮੰਤ ਘਾਇਲੋ ਘਣੰ ਤਤਛ ਬਾਣਣੋ ਬਰੰ ॥
ghumant ghaaeilo ghanan tatachh baanano baran |
ਭਭਜ ਕਾਤਰੋ ਕਿਤੰ ਗਜੰਤ ਜੋਧਣੋ ਜੁਧੰ ॥
bhabhaj kaataro kitan gajant jodhano judhan |
Many wounded warriors after being shot by sharp arrows began to wander and many warriors began to wander and many warriors began to roar and many of them becoming helpless breathed their last
ਚਲੰਤ ਤੀਛਣੋ ਅਸੰ ਖਿਮੰਤ ਧਾਰ ਉਜਲੰ ॥

ਪਪਾਤ ਅੰਗਦ ਕੇਸਰੀ ਹਨੂ ਵ ਸੁਗ੍ਰਿਵੰ ਬਲੰ ॥੭੯੦॥
papaat angad kesaree hanoo v sugrivan balan |790|
The sharp sword of white edges were struck in the battlefield, the strength of Angad, Hanuman, Sugriva etc. began to wean away.790.
ਗਿਰੰਤ ਆਮੁਰੰ ਰਣੰ ਭਭਰਮ ਆਸੁਰੀ ਸਿਸੰ ॥

ਉਠੰਤ ਅੰਧ ਧੁੰਧਣੋ ਕਬੰਧ ਬੰਧਤੰ ਕਟੰ ॥

ਲਗੰਤ ਬਾਣਾਣੋ ਬਰੰ ਗਿਰੰਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਅਹਵਯੰ ॥੭੯੧॥

ਪਪਾਤ ਬ੍ਰਿਛਣੰ ਧਰੰ ਬਬੇਗ ਮਾਰ ਤੁਜਣੰ ॥
papaat brichhanan dharan babeg maar tujanan |
ਭਰੰਤ ਧੂਰ ਭੂਰਣੰ ਬਮੰਤ ਸ੍ਰੋਣਤੰ ਮੁਖੰ ॥
bharant dhoor bhooranan bamant sronatan mukhan |
The warriors being shot by arrows quickly began to fall on the earth, the dust clung to their bodies and the blood oozed out from their mouths
ਚਿਕਾਰ ਚਾਵਡੀ ਨਭੰ ਫਿਕੰਤ ਫਿੰਕਰੀ ਫਿਰੰ ॥
chikaar chaavaddee nabhan fikant finkaree firan |
ਭਕਾਰ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤਣੰ ਡਿਕਾਰ ਡਾਕਣੀ ਡੁਲੰ ॥੭੯੨॥
bhakaar bhoot pretanan ddikaar ddaakanee ddulan |792|
The vultures shrieked and roamed circularly in the sky , the ghosts and fiends began to shout in the battlefield and the vampires roamed while belching. 792.
ਗਿਰੈ ਧਰੰ ਧੁਰੰ ਧਰੰ ਧਰਾ ਧਰੰ ਧਰੰ ਜਿਵੰ ॥
girai dharan dhuran dharan dharaa dharan dharan jivan |
ਭਭਜਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਣਤੰ ਤਣੈ ਉਠੰਤ ਭੈ ਕਰੀ ਧੁਨੰ ॥
bhabhaj sraunatan tanai utthant bhai karee dhunan |
The warriors, on whatever side of the earth they were, began to fal, the blood flowed from the bodies of the fleeing warriors and there were terrible shouts
ਉਠੰਤ ਗਦ ਸਦਣੰ ਨਨਦ ਨਿਫਿਰੰ ਰਣੰ ॥
autthant gad sadanan nanad nifiran ranan |
ਬਬਰਖ ਸਾਇਕੰ ਸਿਤੰ ਘੁਮੰਤ ਜੋਧਣੋ ਬ੍ਰਣੰ ॥੭੯੩॥
babarakh saaeikan sitan ghumant jodhano branan |793|
The resonance of fifes filled the battlefield and the clusters of warriors showering the arrows and being inflicted with wounds began to wander.793.
ਭਜੰਤ ਭੈ ਧਰੰ ਭਟੰ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਭਰਥਣੋ ਰਣੰ ॥
bhajant bhai dharan bhattan bilok bharathano ranan |
ਚਲਯੋ ਚਿਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਚਪੀ ਬਬਰਖ ਸਾਇਕੋ ਸਿਤੰ ॥
chalayo chiraae kai chapee babarakh saaeiko sitan |
Seeing the war of Bharat, many warriors began to run away fearfully. On this side, in great fury, Bharat began to shower arrows.
ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਸਾਇਕੰ ਸਿਸੰ ਬਬਧ ਭਾਲਣੋ ਭਟੰ ॥
su krudh saaeikan sisan babadh bhaalano bhattan |
ਪਪਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀਯੰ ਹਠੀ ਮਮੋਹ ਆਸ੍ਰ ਮੰਗਤੰ ॥੭੯੪॥
papaat prithaveeyan hatthee mamoh aasr mangatan |794|
The sons of the sage in great ire showered a volley of arrows and caused Bharat to fall on the earth.794.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਰਾਮਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਭਰਥ ਬਧਹਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥
eit sree bachitr naattake raamaavataare bharath badheh dhiaae samaapatan |
ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥
jin prabh jaataa su sobhaavant |
Those who know God are glorious.
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਮੰਤ ॥
sagal sansaar udharai tin mant |
The whole world is redeemed by their teachings.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਨ ॥
prabh ke sevak sagal udhaaran |
God's servants redeem all.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨ ॥
prabh ke sevak dookh bisaaran |
God's servants cause sorrows to be forgotten.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
aape mel le kirapaal |
The Merciful Lord unites them with Himself.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਪਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
gur kaa sabad jap bhe nihaal |
Chanting the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they become ecstatic.
ਉਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋਈ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
aun kee sevaa soee laagai |
He alone is committed to serve them,
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਡਭਾਗੈ ॥
jis no kripaa kareh baddabhaagai |
upon whom God bestows His Mercy, by great good fortune.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
naam japat paaveh bisraam |
Those who chant the Naam find their place of rest.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਉ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੭॥
naanak tin purakh kau aootam kar maan |7|
O Nanak, respect those persons as the most noble. ||7||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
jo kichh karai su prabh kai rang |
Whatever you do, do it for the Love of God.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
sadaa sadaa basai har sang |
Forever and ever, abide with the Lord.
ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
sehaj subhaae hovai so hoe |
By its own natural course, whatever will be will be.
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
karanaihaar pachhaanai soe |
Acknowledge that Creator Lord;
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਜਨ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
prabh kaa keea jan meetth lagaanaa |
God's doings are sweet to His humble servant.
ਜੈਸਾ ਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਨਾ ॥
jaisaa saa taisaa drisattaanaa |
As He is, so does He appear.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
jis te upaje tis maeh samaae |
From Him we came, and into Him we shall merge again.
ਓਇ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਉਨਹੂ ਬਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
oe sukh nidhaan unahoo ban aae |
He is the treasure of peace, and so does His servant become.
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
aapas kau aap deeno maan |
Unto His own, He has given His honor.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੪॥
naanak prabh jan eko jaan |8|14|
O Nanak, know that God and His humble servant are one and the same. ||8||14||

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥
sarab kalaa bharapoor prabh birathaa jaananahaar |
God is totally imbued with all powers; He is the Knower of our troubles.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaa kai simaran udhareeai naanak tis balihaar |1|
Meditating in remembrance on Him, we are saved; Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||1||

The Lord of the World is the Mender of the broken.
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
sarab jeea aape pratipaal |
He Himself cherishes all beings.
ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sagal kee chintaa jis man maeh |
The cares of all are on His Mind;
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tis te birathaa koee naeh |
no one is turned away from Him.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
re man mere sadaa har jaap |
O my mind, meditate forever on the Lord.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
abinaasee prabh aape aap |
The Imperishable Lord God is Himself All-in-all.
ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
aapan keea kachhoo na hoe |
By one's own actions, nothing is accomplished,
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
je sau praanee lochai koe |
even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥
tis bin naahee terai kichh kaam |
Without Him, nothing is of any use to you.
ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
gat naanak jap ek har naam |1|
Salvation, O Nanak, is attained by chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||1||
ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
roopavant hoe naahee mohai |
One who is good-looking should not be vain;
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
prabh kee jot sagal ghatt sohai |
the Light of God is in all hearts.
ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ ॥
dhanavantaa hoe kiaa ko garabai |
Why should anyone be proud of being rich?
ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ ॥
jaa sabh kichh tis kaa deea darabai |
All riches are His gifts.
ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
at sooraa je koaoo kahaavai |
One may call himself a great hero,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
prabh kee kalaa binaa keh dhaavai |
but without God's Power, what can anyone do?
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
je ko hoe bahai daataar |
One who brags about giving to charities
ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
tis denahaar jaanai gaavaar |
the Great Giver shall judge him to be a fool.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
jis gur prasaad toottai hau rog |
One who, by Guru's Grace, is cured of the disease of ego
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
naanak so jan sadaa arog |2|
- O Nanak, that person is forever healthy. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
jiau mandar kau thaamai thaman |
As a palace is supported by its pillars,
ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
tiau gur kaa sabad maneh asathaman |
so does the Guru's Word support the mind.
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ ॥
jiau paakhaan naav charr tarai |
As a stone placed in a boat can cross over the river,
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
praanee gur charan lagat nisatarai |
so is the mortal saved, grasping hold of the Guru's Feet.
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
jiau andhakaar deepak paragaas |
As the darkness is illuminated by the lamp,
ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
gur darasan dekh man hoe bigaas |
so does the mind blossom forth, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jiau mahaa udiaan meh maarag paavai |
The path is found through the great wilderness by joining the Saadh Sangat,
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
tiau saadhoo sang mil jot pragattaavai |
The Company of the Holy, and one's light shines forth.
ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
tin santan kee baachhau dhoor |
I seek the dust of the feet of those Saints;
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
naanak kee har lochaa poor |3|
O Lord, fulfill Nanak's longing! ||3||
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥
man moorakh kaahe bilalaaeeai |
O foolish mind, why do you cry and bewail?
ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
purab likhe kaa likhiaa paaeeai |
You shall obtain your pre-ordained destiny.
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
dookh sookh prabh devanahaar |
God is the Giver of pain and pleasure.
ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੁ ॥
avar tiaag too tiseh chitaar |
Abandon others, and think of Him alone.
ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jo kachh karai soee sukh maan |
Whatever He does - take comfort in that.
ਭੂਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
bhoolaa kaahe fireh ajaan |
Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool?
ਕਉਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗ ॥
kaun basat aaee terai sang |
What things did you bring with you?
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਸਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਪਤੰਗ ॥
lapatt rahio ras lobhee patang |
You cling to worldly pleasures like a greedy moth.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
raam naam jap hirade maeh |
Dwell upon the Lord's Name in your heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
naanak pat setee ghar jaeh |4|
O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. ||4||
