ਜਿਮ ਤਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਮ ਸੁਤਿ ਬਿਛੋਹਿ ॥
jim taje praan ham sut bichhohi |
ਤਿਮ ਲਗੋ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਸੁਨ ਭੂਪ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
tim lago sraap sun bhoop tohi |
“O king! The manner in which we are breathing our last, you will also experience the same situation.”
ਇਮ ਭਾਖ ਜਰਯੋ ਦਿਜ ਸਹਿਤ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
eim bhaakh jarayo dij sahit naar |
ਤਜ ਦੇਹ ਕੀਯੋ ਸੁਰਪੁਰ ਬਿਹਾਰ ॥੩੫॥
taj deh keeyo surapur bihaar |35|
Saying this, the Brahmin was burnt to ashes alongwith his wife and went to heaven.35.

ਤਬ ਚਹੀ ਭੂਪ ਹਉਾਂ ਜਰੋਂ ਆਜ ॥
tab chahee bhoop hauaan jaron aaj |
ਕੈ ਅਤਿਥਿ ਹੋਊਾਂ ਤਜ ਰਾਜ ਸਾਜ ॥
kai atith hoaooaan taj raaj saaj |
Then the king expressed this wish that either he would burn himself that day or forsaking his kingdom, he would go to the forest,
ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਜੈ ਕੈ ਕਰਹੋਂ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
kai greh jai kai karahon uchaar |
ਮੈ ਦਿਜ ਆਯੋ ਨਿਜ ਕਰ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥੩੬॥
mai dij aayo nij kar sanghaar |36|
‘What will I say at home? That I am coming back after killing the Brahmin with my own hand! 36.

ਤਬ ਭਈ ਦੇਵ ਬਾਨੀ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
tab bhee dev baanee banaae |
ਜਿਨ ਕਰੋ ਦੁਖ ਦਸਰਥ ਰਾਇ ॥
jin karo dukh dasarath raae |
Then there was an utterance from heavens: “O Dasrath! Do not be sad
ਤਵ ਧਾਮ ਹੋਹਿਗੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਸਨ ॥
tav dhaam hohige putr bisan |
ਸਭ ਕਾਜ ਆਜ ਸਿਧ ਭਏ ਜਿਸਨ ॥੩੭॥
sabh kaaj aaj sidh bhe jisan |37|
“Vishnu will take birth as son in your home and through him, the impact of the sinful deed of this day will end.37.
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਮਾਵਤਾਰ ॥
hvai hai su naam raamaavataar |
ਕਰ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਸਕਲ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਉਧਾਰ ॥
kar hai su sakal jag ko udhaar |
“He will be famous by the name of Ramavtar and he will redeem the whole world
ਕਰ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਤਨਕ ਮੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਨਾਸ ॥
kar hai su tanak mai dusatt naas |
ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਕੀਰਤ ਕਰ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥੩੮॥
eih bhaat keerat kar hai prakaas |38|
“He will destroy the tyrants in an instant and in this way his fame will spread on all the four sides.”38.

ਭੁਜ ਬਲ ਬੀਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗਰਤ ਪਰਤ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅੰਗੁਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhuj bal beer braham sukh saagar garat parat geh lehu angureea |1| rahaau |
O Brave and Powerful God, Ocean of Peace, I fell into the pit - please, take my hand. ||1||Pause||
ਸ੍ਰਵਨਿ ਨ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨੈਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਹੀ ਆਰਤ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਰਟਤ ਪਿੰਗੁਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
sravan na surat nain sundar nahee aarat duaar rattat pingureea |1|
My ears do not hear, and my eyes are not beautiful. I am in such pain; I am a poor cripple, crying at Your Door. ||1||
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਸਾਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਹਤਰੀਆ ॥
deenaa naath anaath karunaa mai saajan meet pitaa mahatareea |
O Master of the poor and helpless, O Embodiment of Compassion, You are my Friend and Intimate, my Father and Mother.
ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਆ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੧੫॥
charan kaval hiradai geh naanak bhai saagar sant paar utareea |2|2|115|
Nanak holds tight to the Lord's Lotus Feet in his heart; thus the Saints cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||2||115||

ਦਯ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮੀਤੁਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬਾਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
day gusaaee meetulaa toon sang hamaarai baas jeeo |1| rahaau |
O Dear Lord God, my Best Friend, please, abide with me. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਰਹਣਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
tujh bin gharee na jeevanaa dhrig rahanaa sansaar |
Without You, I cannot live, even for an instant, and my life in this world is cursed.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਿਆ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜੀ ॥੧॥
jeea praan sukhadaatiaa nimakh nimakh balihaar jee |1|
O Breath of Life of the soul, O Giver of peace, each and every instant I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||
ਹਸਤ ਅਲੰਬਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਰਤਹੁ ਉਧਰੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
hasat alanban dehu prabh garatahu udhar gopaal |
Please, God, give me the Support of Your Hand; lift me up and pull me out of this pit, O Lord of the World.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੨॥
mohi niragun mat thoreea toon sad hee deen deaal |2|
I am worthless, with such a shallow intellect; You are always Merciful to the meek. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਮਲਾ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧੀ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
kiaa sukh tere samalaa kavan bidhee beechaar |
What comforts of Yours can I dwell upon? How can I contemplate You?
ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਦਾਸ ਹਿਤ ਊਚੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੩॥
saran samaaee daas hit aooche agam apaar |3|
You lovingly absorb Your slaves into Your Sanctuary, O Lofty, Inaccessible and Infinite Lord. ||3||
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sagal padaarath asatt sidh naam mahaa ras maeh |
All wealth, and the eight miraculous spiritual powers are in the supremely sublime essence of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਕੇਸਵਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
suprasan bhe kesavaa se jan har gun gaeh |4|
Those humble beings, with whom the beautifully-haired Lord is thoroughly pleased, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
maat pitaa sut bandhapo toon mere praan adhaar |
You are my mother, father, son and relative; You are the Support of the breath of life.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਭਜੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੫॥੧॥੧੧੬॥
saadhasang naanak bhajai bikh tariaa sansaar |5|1|116|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak meditates on the Lord, and swims across the poisonous world-ocean. ||5||1||116||

Is there anyone who will sing of the Beloved Lord?
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੂਖ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab kaliaan sookh sach paavai | rahaau |
Surely, this will bring all pleasures and comforts. ||Pause||
ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਖੋਜਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
ban ban khojat firat bairaagee |
The renunciate goes out into the woods, searching for Him.
ਬਿਰਲੇ ਕਾਹੂ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
birale kaahoo ek liv laagee |
But those who embrace love for the One Lord are very rare.
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
jin har paaeaa se vaddabhaagee |1|
Those who find the Lord are very fortunate and blessed. ||1||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਚਾਹੈ ॥
brahamaadik sanakaadik chaahai |
The Gods like Brahma and Sanak yearn for Him;
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਸਿਧ ਹਰਿ ਆਹੈ ॥
jogee jatee sidh har aahai |
the Yogis, celibates and Siddhas yearn for the Lord.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹੈ ॥੨॥
jiseh paraapat so har gun gaahai |2|
One who is so blessed, sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਜਿਨ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
taa kee saran jin bisarat naahee |
I seek the Sanctuary of those who have not forgotten Him.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਾਹੀ ॥
vaddabhaagee har sant milaahee |
By great good fortune, one meets the Lord's Saint.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤਿਹ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
janam maran tih moole naahee |3|
They are not subject to the cycle of birth and death. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
kar kirapaa mil preetam piaare |
Show Your Mercy, and lead me to meet You, O my Darling Beloved.
ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
binau sunahu prabh aooch apaare |
Hear my prayer, O Lofty and Infinite God;
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੧੭॥
naanak maangat naam adhaare |4|1|117|
Nanak begs for the Support of Your Name. ||4||1||117||
