ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਕੰਤੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥
saavan aaeaa he sakhee kantai chit karehu |
The month of Saawan has come, O my companions; think of your Husband Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਅਵਰੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਨੇਹੁ ॥੧॥
naanak jhoor mareh dohaaganee jina avaree laagaa nehu |1|
O Nanak, the discarded bride is in love with another; now she weeps and wails, and dies. ||1||

Second Mehl:
ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਜਲਹਰੁ ਬਰਸਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
saavan aaeaa he sakhee jalahar barasanahaar |
The month of Saawan has come, O my companions; the clouds have burst forth with rain.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
naanak sukh savan sohaaganee jina seh naal piaar |2|
O Nanak, the blessed soul-brides sleep in peace; they are in love with their Husband Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਆਪੇ ਛਿੰਝ ਪਵਾਇ ਮਲਾਖਾੜਾ ਰਚਿਆ ॥
aape chhinjh pavaae malaakhaarraa rachiaa |
He Himself has staged the tournament, and arranged the arena for the wrestlers.
ਲਥੇ ਭੜਥੂ ਪਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਚਿਆ ॥
lathe bharrathoo paae guramukh machiaa |
They have entered the arena with pomp and ceremony; the Gurmukhs are joyful.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਰੇ ਪਛਾੜਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਚਿਆ ॥
manamukh maare pachhaarr moorakh kachiaa |
The false and foolish self-willed manmukhs are defeated and overcome.
ਆਪਿ ਭਿੜੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਰਚਿਆ ॥
aap bhirrai maare aap aap kaaraj rachiaa |
The Lord Himself wrestles, and He Himself defeats them. He Himself staged this play.
ਸਭਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
sabhanaa khasam ek hai guramukh jaaneeai |
The One God is the Lord and Master of all; this is known by the Gurmukhs.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਲਿਖੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਲਮ ਮਸਵਾਣੀਐ ॥
hukamee likhai sir lekh vin kalam masavaaneeai |
He writes the inscription of His Hukam on the foreheads of all, without pen or ink.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਪੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
satasangat melaap jithai har gun sadaa vakhaaneeai |
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, Union with Him is obtained; there, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are chanted forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ॥੪॥
naanak sachaa sabad salaeh sach pachhaaneeai |4|
O Nanak, praising the True Word of His Shabad, one comes to realize the Truth. ||4||

ਊਂਨਵਿ ਊਂਨਵਿ ਆਇਆ ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰੇਂਦਾ ਵੰਨ ॥
aoonav aoonav aaeaa avar karendaa van |
Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds are changing color.
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹ ਸਿਉ ਕੇਵ ਰਹਸੀ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
kiaa jaanaa tis saah siau kev rahasee rang |
How do I know whether my love for my Husband Lord shall endure?
ਰੰਗੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
rang rahiaa tina kaamanee jina man bhau bhaau hoe |
The love of those soul-brides endures, if their minds are filled with the Love and the Fear of God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak bhai bhaae baaharee tin tan sukh na hoe |1|
O Nanak, she who has no Love and Fear of God - her body shall never find peace. ||1||

ਊਂਨਵਿ ਊਂਨਵਿ ਆਇਆ ਵਰਸੈ ਨੀਰੁ ਨਿਪੰਗੁ ॥

Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds come, and pure water rains down.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਕੰਤੈ ਸਿਉ ਮਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੨॥
naanak dukh laagaa tina kaamanee jina kantai siau man bhang |2|
O Nanak, that soul-bride suffers in pain, whose mind is torn away from her Husband Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਦੋਵੈ ਤਰਫਾ ਉਪਾਇ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਿਆ ॥
dovai tarafaa upaae ik varatiaa |
The One Lord created both sides and pervades the expanse.
ਬੇਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤਾਇ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਘਤਿਆ ॥
bed baanee varataae andar vaad ghatiaa |
The words of the Vedas became pervasive, with arguments and divisions.
ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨਿਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਹਾਠਾ ਦੋਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਰੈਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
paravirat niravirat haatthaa dovai vich dharam firai raibaariaa |
Attachment and detachment are the two sides of it; Dharma, true religion, is the guide between the two.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਚੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
manamukh kache koorriaar tinaee nihchau daragah haariaa |
The self-willed manmukhs are worthless and false. Without a doubt, they lose in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੂਰ ਹੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਜਿਨੑੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
guramatee sabad soor hai kaam krodh jinaee maariaa |
Those who follow the Guru's Teachings are the true spiritual warriors; they have conquered sexual desire and anger.
ਸਚੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
sachai andar mehal sabad savaariaa |
They enter into the True Mansion of the Lord's Presence, embellished and exalted by the Word of the Shabad.
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
se bhagat tudh bhaavade sachai naae piaariaa |
Those devotees are pleasing to Your Will, O Lord; they dearly love the True Name.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੫॥
satigur sevan aapanaa tinaa vittahu hau vaariaa |5|
I am a sacrifice to those who serve their True Guru. ||5||

ਊਂਨਵਿ ਊਂਨਵਿ ਆਇਆ ਵਰਸੈ ਲਾਇ ਝੜੀ ॥

Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds come, and water rains down in torrents.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਕੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਣੇ ਸਦਾ ਰਲੀ ॥੧॥
naanak bhaanai chalai kant kai su maane sadaa ralee |1|
O Nanak, she walks in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord; she enjoys peace and pleasure forever. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਕਿਆ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਬਪੁੜੇਂ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਘੈ ਹਥਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
kiaa utth utth dekhahu bapurren is meghai hath kichh naeh |
Why are you standing up, standing up to look? You poor wretch, this cloud has nothing in its hands.
ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹੁ ਮੇਘੁ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹਿ ॥
jin ehu megh patthaaeaa tis raakhahu man maanhi |
The One who sent this cloud - cherish Him in your mind.
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਸੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
tis no man vasaaeisee jaa kau nadar karee |
He alone enshrines the Lord in his mind, upon whom the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਸਭ ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
naanak nadaree baaharee sabh karan palaah karee |2|
O Nanak, all those who lack this Grace, cry and weep and wail. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੇਵੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਵਾਰ ॥
so har sadaa sareveeai jis karat na laagai vaar |
Serve the Lord forever; He acts in no time at all.
ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਕਾਸ ਕਰਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥
aaddaane aakaas kar khin meh dtaeh usaaranahaar |
He stretched the sky across the heavens; in an instant, He creates and destroys.
ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
aape jagat upaae kai kudarat kare veechaar |
He Himself created the world; He contemplates His Creative Omnipotence.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਾਰ ॥
manamukh agai lekhaa mangeeai bahutee hovai maar |
The self-willed manmukh will be called to account hereafter; he will be severely punished.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਿਬੜੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
guramukh pat siau lekhaa nibarrai bakhase sifat bhanddaar |
The Gurmukh's account is settled with honor; the Lord blesses him with the treasure of His Praise.
ਓਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਅਪੜੈ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
othai hath na aparrai kook na suneeai pukaar |
No one's hands can reach there; no one will hear anyone's cries.
ਓਥੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਢਿ ਲਏ ਅੰਤੀ ਵਾਰ ॥
othai satigur belee hovai kadt le antee vaar |
The True Guru will be your best friend there; at the very last instant, He will save you.
ਏਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਨੋ ਹੋਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੬॥
enaa jantaa no hor sevaa nahee satigur sir karataar |6|
These beings should serve no other than the True Guru or the Creator Lord above the heads of all. ||6||

ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਖਰ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
jan kar sikhar agan kee jvaalaa |1|
ਇਸਕਾ ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
eisakaa de tih sutaa bhanijai |
ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰ ਜਿਹ ਸਮ ਛਬਿ ਦਿਜੈ ॥
chand soor jih sam chhab dijai |
ਅਵਰ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸਮ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
avar naar tih sam neh koee |
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
triy kee upamaa keh triy soee |2|
ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਐਸੀ ॥
sundarataa taa ke tan aisee |
ਸਚੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਤੈਸੀ ॥
sachee paarabatee hoe na taisee |
ਮਾਲੁਮ ਸਕਲ ਜਗਤ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ ॥

ਜਛ ਗਾਧ੍ਰਬੀ ਭੀਤਰ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

ਕੰਚਨ ਸੈਨ ਦੈਤ ਤਹ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
kanchan sain dait teh bhaaro |
ਬੀਰਜਮਾਨ ਦੁਤਿਮਾਨ ਕਰਾਰੋ ॥
beerajamaan dutimaan karaaro |
ਨਿਹਕੰਟਕ ਅਸੁਰਾਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਿਨ ॥
nihakanttak asuraan kariyo jin |
ਸਮੁਹਿ ਭਯੋ ਸੋ ਬਲੀ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਤਿਨ ॥੪॥
samuhi bhayo so balee hanayo tin |4|
ਤਿਹ ਪੁਰ ਅਰਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਵਹ ਆਵੈ ॥
tih pur aradh raat veh aavai |
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਭਖਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
ek purakh nitaprat bhakh jaavai |
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਸੋਚ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ॥
sabhahin soch badtiyo jiy mai at |
ਬੈਠਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਤ ਭੇ ਸੁਭ ਮਤਿ ॥੫॥
baitth bichaar karat bhe subh mat |5|
ਇਹ ਰਾਛਸ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥
eih raachhas at hee balavaanaa |
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਭਖਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨ ਨਾਨਾ ॥
maanukh bhakhat rain din naanaa |
ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੌ ॥
traas karat kaahoo neh jan kau |
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਫਿਰਤ ਹੋਤ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਕੌ ॥੬॥
nirabhai firat hot kar man kau |6|
ਬੇਸ੍ਵਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਏਕ ਪੁਰ ਤਵਨੈ ॥
besvaa hutee ek pur tavanai |
ਦਾਨਵ ਖਾਤ ਮਨੁਖ ਭੂਅ ਜਵਨੈ ॥
daanav khaat manukh bhooa javanai |
ਸੋ ਅਬਲਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਪਹ ਆਈ ॥
so abalaa raajaa peh aaee |
ਨਿਰਖ ਰਾਵ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਲੁਭਾਈ ॥੭॥
nirakh raav kee prabhaa lubhaaee |7|
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤਨ ਬੈਨਾ ॥
eih bidh kahiyo nripat tan bainaa |
ਜੌ ਤੁਮ ਮੁਹਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਨਿਜੁ ਐਨਾ ॥
jau tum muhi raakhahu nij ainaa |
ਤੌ ਹੌ ਮਾਰਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਕਹ ਆਵੌ ॥
tau hau maar asur keh aavau |
ਯਾ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਸੋਕ ਮਿਟਾਵੌ ॥੮॥
yaa pur ko sabh sok mittaavau |8|
ਤਬ ਮੈ ਬਰੌ ਤੋਹਿ ਕੌ ਧਾਮਾ ॥
tab mai barau tohi kau dhaamaa |
ਜਬ ਤੈ ਹਨ ਅਸੁਰ ਕਹ ਬਾਮਾ ॥
jab tai han asur keh baamaa |
ਦੇਸ ਸਭੈ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਗ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਖ ॥
des sabhai ar log basai sukh |
ਮਿਟੈ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ॥੯॥
mittai prajaa ke chit ko sabh dukh |9|
ਬਲੀ ਆਠ ਸੈ ਮਹਿਖ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
balee aatth sai mahikh mangaayo |
ਭਛ ਭੋਜ ਪਕਵਾਨ ਪਕਾਯੋ ॥
bhachh bhoj pakavaan pakaayo |
ਮਦਰਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਹਾ ਲੈ ਧਰਾ ॥
madaraa adhik tahaa lai dharaa |
ਸਾਤ ਬਾਰ ਜੁ ਚੁਆਇਨਿ ਕਰਾ ॥੧੦॥
saat baar ju chuaaein karaa |10|
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਭ ਅੰਨ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
bhalee bhaat sabh an banaae |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਾਥ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
bhaat bhaat bikh saath milaae |
ਗਰਧਭਾਨ ਬਹੁ ਦਈ ਅਫੀਮੈ ॥
garadhabhaan bahu dee afeemai |
ਬਾਧੇ ਆਨਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੀਮੈ ॥੧੧॥

ਆਧੀ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੈਤ ਤਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
aadhee raat dait teh aayo |
ਗਰਧਭਾਨ ਮਹਿਖਾਨ ਚਬਾਯੋ ॥
garadhabhaan mahikhaan chabaayo |
ਭਛ ਭੋਜ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਤਬ ਖਾਏ ॥
bhachh bhoj bahute tab khaae |
ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਪ︀ਯਾਲੇ ਮਦਹਿ ਚੜਾਏ ॥੧੨॥
bhar bhar payaale madeh charraae |12|
ਮਦ ਕੀ ਪੀਏ ਬਿਸੁਧ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹਾ ॥
mad kee pee bisudh hvai rahaa |
ਆਨਿ ਅਫੀਮ ਗਰੌ ਤਿਹ ਗਹਾ ॥
aan afeem garau tih gahaa |
ਸੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸੁਧਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
soe rahaa sudh kachhoo na paaee |
ਨਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਨ ਘਾਤ ਕਹ ਧਾਈ ॥੧੩॥
naar pachhaan ghaat keh dhaaee |13|
ਅਠ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮਨ ਸਿਕਾ ਲਯੋ ॥
atth hazaar man sikaa layo |
ਤਾ ਪਰ ਅਵਟਿ ਢਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
taa par avatt dtaar kar dayo |
ਭਸਮੀ ਭੂਤ ਦੈਤ ਵਹੁ ਕਿਯੋ ॥

ਬਿਰਹਵਤੀ ਪੁਰ ਕੌ ਸੁਖ ਦਿਯੋ ॥੧੪॥
