Malaar, Fourth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
gur parasaadee amrit nahee peea trisanaa bhookh na jaaee |
Those who do not drink in the Ambrosial Nectar by Guru's Grace - their thirst and hunger are not relieved.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂੜੑ ਜਲਤ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
manamukh moorra jalat ahankaaree haumai vich dukh paaee |
The foolish self-willed manmukh burns in the fire of egotistical pride; he suffers painfully in egotism.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਦੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥
aavat jaat birathaa janam gavaaeaa dukh laagai pachhutaaee |
Coming and going, he wastes his life uselessly; afflicted with pain, he regrets and repents.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
jis te upaje tiseh na cheteh dhrig jeevan dhrig khaaee |1|
He does not even think of the One, from whom he originated. Cursed is his life, and cursed is his food. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
praanee guramukh naam dhiaaee |
O mortal, as Gurmukh, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har kripaa kare gur mele har har naam samaaee |1| rahaau |
The Lord, Har, Har, in His Mercy leads the mortal to meet the Guru; he is absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਲਜਾਈ ॥
manamukh janam bheaa hai birathaa aavat jaat lajaaee |
The life of the self-willed manmukh is useless; he comes and goes in shame.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਡੂਬੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
kaam krodh ddoobe abhimaanee haumai vich jal jaaee |
In sexual desire and anger, the proud ones are drowned. They are burnt in their egotism.
ਤਿਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਧਿਮ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
tin sidh na budh bhee mat madhim lobh lehar dukh paaee |
They do not attain perfection or understanding; their intellect is dimmed. Tossed by the waves of greed, they suffer in pain.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਮ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
gur bihoon mahaa dukh paaeaa jam pakare bilalaaee |2|
Without the Guru, they suffer in terrible pain. Seized by Death, they weep and wail. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
har kaa naam agochar paaeaa guramukh sehaj subhaaee |
As Gurmukh, I have attained the Unfathomable Name of the Lord, with intuitive peace and poise.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥
naam nidhaan vasiaa ghatt antar rasanaa har gun gaaee |
The treasure of the Naam abides deep within my heart. My tongue sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
sadaa anand rahai din raatee ek sabad liv laaee |
I am forever in bliss, day and night, lovingly attuned to the One Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਇਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
naam padaarath sahaje paaeaa ih satigur kee vaddiaaee |3|
I have obtained the treasure of the Naam with intuitive ease; this is the glorious greatness of the True Guru. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
satigur te har har man vasiaa satigur kau sad bal jaaee |
Through the True Guru, the Lord, Har, Har, comes to dwell within my mind. I am forever a sacrifice to the True Guru.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਰਖਉ ਸਭੁ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
man tan arap rkhau sabh aagai gur charanee chit laaee |
I have dedicated my mind and body to Him, and placed everything before Him in offering. I focus my consciousness on His Feet.
ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
apanee kripaa karahu gur poore aape laihu milaaee |
Please be merciful to me, O my Perfect Guru, and unite me with Yourself.
ਹਮ ਲੋਹ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਵ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥
ham loh gur naav bohithaa naanak paar langhaaee |4|7|
I am just iron; the Guru is the boat, to carry me across. ||4||7||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਬੋਲਤ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jan bolat sreeraam naamaa mil saadhasangat har tor |1| rahaau |
The humble servant of the Lord chants the Name of the Supreme Lord; he joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Lord's Holy. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਬਨਜਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਤ ਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਚੋਰ ॥੧॥
har dhan banajahu har dhan sanchahu jis laagat hai nahee chor |1|
Deal only in the wealth of the Lord, and gather only the wealth of the Lord. No thief can ever steal it. ||1||
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੋਰ ਬੋਲਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਘਨਿਹਰ ਕੀ ਘੋਰ ॥੨॥
chaatrik mor bolat din raatee sun ghanihar kee ghor |2|
The rainbirds and the peacocks sing day and night, hearing the thunder in the clouds. ||2||
ਜੋ ਬੋਲਤ ਹੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮੀਨ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਤ ਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰ ॥੩॥
jo bolat hai mrig meen pankheroo su bin har jaapat hai nahee hor |3|
Whatever the deer, the fish and the birds sing, they chant to the Lord, and no other. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਛੂਟਿ ਗਇਓ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਸਭ ਸੋਰ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥
naanak jan har keerat gaaee chhoott geo jam kaa sabh sor |4|1|8|
Servant Nanak sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; the sound and fury of Death has totally gone away. ||4||1||8||

Malaar, Fourth Mehl:
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਖੋਜਤੇ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
raam raam bol bol khojate baddabhaagee |
They speak and chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam; the very fortunate ones seek Him.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਕੋਊ ਬਤਾਵੈ ਹਉ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਇ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har kaa panth koaoo bataavai hau taa kai paae laagee |1| rahaau |
Whoever shows me the Way of the Lord - I fall at his feet. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
har hamaaro meet sakhaaee ham har siau preet laagee |
The Lord is my Friend and Compansion; I am in love with the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅਉਰੁ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਮ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੧॥
har ham gaaveh har ham boleh aaur duteea preet ham tiaagee |1|
I sing of the Lord, and I speak of the Lord; I have discarded all other loves. ||1||
ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਮੋਰੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
manamohan moro preetam raam har paramaanand bairaagee |
My Beloved is the Enticer of the mind; The Detached Lord God is the Embodiment of Supreme bliss.
ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖੇ ਜੀਵਤ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਪਲੋ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੯॥੯॥੧੩॥੯॥੩੧॥
har dekhe jeevat hai naanak ik nimakh palo mukh laagee |2|2|9|9|13|9|31|
Nanak lives by gazing upon the Lord; may I see Him for a moment, for even just an instant. ||2||2||9||9||13||9||31||

ਪੁਹਪ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਇਕ ਰਾਜ ਦੁਲਾਰੀ ॥
puhap prabhaa ik raaj dulaaree |
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਤਸਿ ਨ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
bahur bidhaataa tas na savaaree |
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਭਾ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥
taa kee aabhaa jaat na kahee |
ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਫੂਲਿ ਅਬਾਸੀ ਰਹੀ ॥੨॥
jan kar fool abaasee rahee |2|
ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਈ ॥
bhoom giree taa kee sundraaee |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਬਾਸੀ ਲਈ ਲਲਾਈ ॥
taa te abaasee lee lalaaee |
ਗਾਲ੍ਰਹਨ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਰਸ ਚੁਇ ਪਰਾ ॥
gaalrahan te jo ras chue paraa |
ਭਯੋ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਤਿਸੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਾ ॥੩॥
bhayo gulaab tisee te haraa |3|
ਜੋਬਨ ਜਬ ਆਯੋ ਅੰਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
joban jab aayo ang taa ke |
ਸਾਹ ਏਕ ਆਯੌ ਤਬ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥
saah ek aayau tab vaa ke |
ਏਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
ek putr sundar tih sangaa |
ਜਨ ਮਨਸਾ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਜਏ ਅਨੰਗਾ ॥੪॥
jan manasaa dvai je anangaa |4|
ਗਾਜੀ ਰਾਇ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਨਰ ਕੋ ॥
gaajee raae naam tih nar ko |
ਕੰਕਨ ਜਾਨ ਕਾਮ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਕੋ ॥
kankan jaan kaam ke kar ko |
ਭੂਖਨ ਕੋ ਭੂਖਨ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨੋ ॥
bhookhan ko bhookhan tih maano |
ਦੂਖਨ ਕੋ ਦੂਖਨ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੋ ॥੫॥
dookhan ko dookhan pahichaano |5|
ਪੁਹਪ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਬ ਲਹਾ ॥
puhap prabhaa taa ko jab lahaa |
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਐਸੇ ਕਰ ਕਹਾ ॥
man bach kram aise kar kahaa |
ਐਸਿ ਕਰੌ ਮੈ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
ais karau mai kavan upaaee |
ਮੋਰਿ ਇਹੀ ਸੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਸਗਾਈ ॥੬॥
mor ihee sang hoe sagaaee |6|
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਹਿ ਕਾਲ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਕਿਯਾ ॥
praateh kaal suyanbar kiyaa |
ਕੁੰਕਮ ਡਾਰਿ ਤਿਸੀ ਪਰ ਦਿਯਾ ॥
kunkam ddaar tisee par diyaa |
ਅਰੁ ਪੁਹਪਨ ਤੈ ਡਾਰਿਸਿ ਹਾਰਾ ॥

ਹੇਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮੁਖ ਭੂਪ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੭॥

ਤਿਹ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
tih nrip sut sabhahoon kar jaanaa |
ਸਾਹ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
saah putr kinahoon na pachhaanaa |
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਬਿਚਰਾ ॥
maat pitaa neh bhed bicharaa |
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸਭਨ ਕਹ ਛਰਾ ॥੮॥
eih chhal kuar sabhan keh chharaa |8|

jeet kavan rip sakat javan ko |
ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਤਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
apramaan tih prabhaa biraajai |
ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਨਾਗ ਅਸੁਰ ਮਨ ਲਾਜੈ ॥੨॥
sur nar naag asur man laajai |2|
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਰਾਨੀ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
ek purakh raanee lakh paayo |
ਤੇਜਮਾਨ ਗੁਨਮਾਨ ਸਵਾਯੋ ॥
tejamaan gunamaan savaayo |
ਪੁਹਪ ਰਾਜ ਜਨੁ ਮਧਿ ਪੁਹਪਨ ਕੇ ॥

ਚੋਰਿ ਲੇਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਚਿਤ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੇ ॥੩॥
