ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
har bin kiau jeevaa meree maaee |
How can I live, O my mother?
ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਚਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jai jagadees teraa jas jaachau mai har bin rehan na jaaee |1| rahaau |
Hail to the Lord of the Universe. I ask to sing Your Praises; without You, O Lord, I cannot even survive. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
har kee piaas piaasee kaaman dekhau rain sabaaee |
I am thirsty, thirsty for the Lord; the soul-bride gazes upon Him all through the night.
ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਨਾਥ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
sreedhar naath meraa man leenaa prabh jaanai peer paraaee |1|
My mind is absorbed into the Lord, my Lord and Master. Only God knows the pain of another. ||1||
ਗਣਤ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਪੀਰ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਂਈ ॥
ganat sareer peer hai har bin gurasabadee har paanee |
My body suffers in pain, without the Lord; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I find the Lord.
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
hohu deaal kripaa kar har jeeo har siau rahaan samaaee |2|
O Dear Lord, please be kind and compassionate to me, that I might remain merged in You, O Lord. ||2||
ਐਸੀ ਰਵਤ ਰਵਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
aisee ravat ravahu man mere har charanee chit laaee |
Follow such a path, O my conscious mind, that you may remain focused on the Feet of the Lord.
ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
bisam bhe gun gaae manohar nirbhau sehaj samaaee |3|
I am wonder-struck, singing the Glorious Praises of my Fascinating Lord; I am intuitively absorbed in the Fearless Lord. ||3||
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
hiradai naam sadaa dhun nihachal ghattai na keemat paaee |
That heart, in which the Eternal, Unchanging Naam vibrates and resounds, does not diminish, and cannot be evaluated.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥
bin naavai sabh koee niradhan satigur boojh bujhaaee |4|
Without the Name, everyone is poor; the True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਭਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਜਨੀ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥
preetam praan bhe sun sajanee doot mue bikh khaaee |
My Beloved is my breath of life - listen, O my companion. The demons have taken poison and died.
ਜਬ ਕੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਤਬ ਕੀ ਤੈਸੀ ਰੰਗੁਲ ਭਈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥
jab kee upajee tab kee taisee rangul bhee man bhaaee |5|
As love for Him welled up, so it remains. My mind is imbued with His Love. ||5||
ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥
sehaj samaadh sadaa liv har siau jeevaan har gun gaaee |
I am absorbed in celestial samaadhi, lovingly attached to the Lord forever. I live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥
gur kai sabad rataa bairaagee nij ghar taarree laaee |6|
Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have become detached from the world. In the profound primal trance, I dwell within the home of my own inner being. ||6||
ਸੁਧ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਗੁਸਾਂਈਂ ॥
sudh ras naam mahaa ras meetthaa nij ghar tat gusaaneen |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is sublimely sweet and supremely delicious; within the home of my own self, I understand the essence of the Lord.
ਤਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਜਹ ਹੀ ਤੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
teh hee man jeh hee tai raakhiaa aisee guramat paaee |7|
Wherever You keep my mind, there it is. This is what the Guru has taught me. ||7||
ਸਨਕ ਸਨਾਦਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
sanak sanaad brahamaad indraadik bhagat rate ban aaee |
Sanak and Sanandan, Brahma and Indra, were imbued with devotional worship, and came to be in harmony with Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak har bin gharee na jeevaan har kaa naam vaddaaee |8|1|
O Nanak, without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant. The Name of the Lord is glorious and great. ||8||1||

Saarang, First Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
har bin kiau dheerai man meraa |
Without the Lord, how can my mind be comforted?
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲਪ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kott kalap ke dookh binaasan saach drirraae niberaa |1| rahaau |
The guilt and sin of millions of ages is erased, and one is released from the cycle of reincarnation, when the Truth is implanted within. ||1||Pause||
ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਜਲੇ ਹਉ ਮਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਉ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
krodh nivaar jale hau mamataa prem sadaa nau rangee |
Anger is gone, egotism and attachment have been burnt away; I am imbued with His ever-fresh Love.
ਅਨਭਉ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਚਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਸੰਗੀ ॥੧॥
anbhau bisar ge prabh jaachiaa har niramaaeil sangee |1|
Other fears are forgotten, begging at God's Door. The Immaculate Lord is my Companion. ||1||
ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
chanchal mat tiaag bhau bhanjan paaeaa ek sabad liv laagee |
Forsaking my fickle intellect, I have found God, the Destroyer of fear; I am lovingly attuned to the One Word, the Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੨॥
har ras chaakh trikhaa nivaaree har mel le baddabhaagee |2|
Tasting the sublime essence of the Lord, my thirst is quenched; by great good fortune, the Lord has united me with Himself. ||2||
ਅਭਰਤ ਸਿੰਚਿ ਭਏ ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥
abharat sinch bhe subhar sar guramat saach nihaalaa |
The empty tank has been filled to overflowing. Following the Guru's Teachings, I am enraptured with the True Lord.
ਮਨ ਰਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੩॥
man rat naam rate nihakeval aad jugaad deaalaa |3|
My mind is imbued with love for the Naam. The Immaculate Lord is merciful, from the beginning of time, and througout the ages. ||3||
ਮੋਹਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਰਾ ਬਡੈ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
mohan mohi leea man moraa baddai bhaag liv laagee |
My mind is fascinated with the Fascinating Lord. By great good fortune, I am lovingly attuned to Him.
ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਨਰਾਗੀ ॥੪॥
saach beechaar kilavikh dukh kaatte man niramal anaraagee |4|
Contemplating the True Lord, all the resides of sins and mistakes are wiped away. My mind is pure and immaculate in His Love. ||4||
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਰਤਨਾਗਰ ਅਵਰ ਨਹੀ ਅਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
gahir ganbheer saagar ratanaagar avar nahee an poojaa |
God is the Deep and Unfathomable Ocean, the Source of all jewels; no other is worthy of worship.
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੫॥
sabad beechaar bharam bhau bhanjan avar na jaaniaa doojaa |5|
I contemplate the Shabad, the Destroyer of doubt and fear; I do not know any other at all. ||5||
ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਦੁ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥
manooaa maar niramal pad cheeniaa har ras rate adhikaaee |
Subduing my mind, I have realized the pure status; I am totally imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੬॥
ekas bin mai avar na jaanaan satigur boojh bujhaaee |6|
I do not know any other except the Lord. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||6||
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
agam agochar anaath ajonee guramat eko jaaniaa |
God is Inaccessible and Unfathomable, Unmastered and Unborn; through the Guru's Teachings, I know the One Lord.
ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਡੋਲੈ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੭॥
subhar bhare naahee chit ddolai man hee te man maaniaa |7|
Filled to overflowing, my consciousness does not waver; through the Mind, my mind is pleased and appeased. ||7||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅਕਥਉ ਕਥੀਐ ਕਹਉ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
gur parasaadee akthau katheeai khau kahaavai soee |
By Guru's Grace, I speak the Unspoken; I speak what He makes me speak.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕੋਈ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak deen deaal hamaare avar na jaaniaa koee |8|2|
O Nanak, my Lord is Merciful to the meek; I do not know any other at all. ||8||2||
