ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
sabh te aoochaa jaa kaa naau |
His Name is the Highest of all.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
sadaa sadaa taa ke gun gaau |
Sing His Glorious Praises, forever and ever.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
jis simarat sagalaa dukh jaae |
Meditating in remembrance on Him, all pain is dispelled.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
sarab sookh vaseh man aae |1|
All pleasures come to dwell in the mind. ||1||
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਤੂ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
simar manaa too saachaa soe |
O my mind, meditate in remembrance on the True Lord.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
halat palat tumaree gat hoe |1| rahaau |
In this world and the next, you shall be saved. ||1||Pause||
ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ॥
purakh niranjan sirajanahaar |
The Immaculate Lord God is the Creator of all.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਹਾਰ ॥
jeea jant devai aahaar |
He gives sustenance to all beings and creatures.
ਕੋਟਿ ਖਤੇ ਖਿਨ ਬਖਸਨਹਾਰ ॥
kott khate khin bakhasanahaar |
He forgives millions of sins and mistakes in an instant.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
bhagat bhaae sadaa nisataar |2|
Through loving devotional worship, one is emancipated forever. ||2||
ਸਾਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
saachaa dhan saachee vaddiaaee |
True wealth and true glorious greatness,
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur poore te nihachal mat paaee |
and eternal, unchanging wisdom, are obtained from the Perfect Guru.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
kar kirapaa jis raakhanahaaraa |
When the Protector, the Savior Lord, bestows His Mercy,
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟੈ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
taa kaa sagal mittai andhiaaraa |3|
all spiritual darkness is dispelled. ||3||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
paarabraham siau laago dhiaan |
I focus my meditation on the Supreme Lord God.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਰਬਾਨ ॥
pooran poor rahio nirabaan |
The Lord of Nirvaanaa is totally pervading and permeating all.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਉ ਮੇਟਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
bhram bhau mett mile gopaal |
Eradicating doubt and fear, I have met the Lord of the World.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੪੩॥
naanak kau gur bhe deaal |4|30|43|
The Guru has become merciful to Nanak. ||4||30||43||

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
jis simarat man hoe pragaas |
Meditating in remembrance on Him, the mind is illumined.
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
mitteh kales sukh sehaj nivaas |
Suffering is eradicated, and one comes to dwell in peace and poise.
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
tiseh paraapat jis prabh dee |
They alone receive it, unto whom God gives it.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਾਏ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥
poore gur kee paae sev |1|
They are blessed to serve the Perfect Guru. ||1||
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
sarab sukhaa prabh tero naau |
All peace and comfort are in Your Name, God.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aatth pehar mere man gaau |1| rahaau |
Twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, sing His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jo ichhai soee fal paae |
You shall receive the fruits of your desires,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
har kaa naam man vasaae |
when the Name of the Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
aavan jaan rahe har dhiaae |
Meditating on the Lord, your comings and goings cease.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
bhagat bhaae prabh kee liv laae |2|
Through loving devotional worship, lovingly focus your attention on God. ||2||
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥
binase kaam krodh ahankaar |
Sexual desire, anger and egotism are dispelled.
ਤੂਟੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
tootte maaeaa moh piaar |
Love and attachment to Maya are broken.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
prabh kee ttek rahai din raat |
Lean on God's Support, day and night.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
paarabraham kare jis daat |3|
The Supreme Lord God has given this gift. ||3||
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
karan karaavanahaar suaamee |
Our Lord and Master is the Creator, the Cause of causes.
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
sagal ghattaa ke antarajaamee |
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of all hearts.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇ ॥
kar kirapaa apanee sevaa laae |
Bless me with Your Grace, Lord, and link me to Your service.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੪੪॥

Slave Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary. ||4||31||44||

ਲਾਜ ਮਰੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
laaj marai jo naam na levai |
One who does not repeat the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall die of shame.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
naam bihoon sukhee kiau sovai |
Without the Name, how can he ever sleep in peace?
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਚਾਹੈ ॥
har simaran chhaadd param gat chaahai |
The mortal abandons meditative remembrance of the Lord, and then wishes for the state of supreme salvation;
ਮੂਲ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਖਾ ਕਤ ਆਹੈ ॥੧॥
mool binaa saakhaa kat aahai |1|
but without roots, how can there be any branches? ||1||
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gur govind mere man dhiaae |
O my mind, meditate on the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam janam kee mail utaarai bandhan kaatt har sang milaae |1| rahaau |
The filth of countless incarnations shall be washed away. Breaking your bonds, you shall be united with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਹਾ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੈਲੁ ॥
teerath naae kahaa such sail |
How can a stone be purified by bathing at a sacred shrine of pilgrimage?
ਮਨ ਕਉ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
man kau viaapai haumai mail |
The filth of egotism clings to the mind.
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਮ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
kott karam bandhan kaa mool |
Millions of rituals and actions taken are the root of entanglements.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਪੂਲੁ ॥੨॥
har ke bhajan bin birathaa pool |2|
Without meditating and vibrating on the Lord, the mortal gathers only worthless bundles of straw. ||2||
ਬਿਨੁ ਖਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਭੂਖ ॥
bin khaae boojhai nahee bhookh |
Without eating, hunger is not satisfied.
ਰੋਗੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥
rog jaae taan utareh dookh |
When the disease is cured, then the pain goes away.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohi biaapiaa |
The mortal is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment.
ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੩॥
jin prabh keenaa so prabh nahee jaapiaa |3|
He does not meditate on God, that God who created him. ||3||
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
dhan dhan saadh dhan har naau |
Blessed, blessed is the Holy Saint, and blessed is the Name of the Lord.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
aatth pehar keeratan gun gaau |
Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Kirtan, the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰ ॥
dhan har bhagat dhan karanaihaar |
Blessed is the devotee of the Lord, and blessed is the Creator Lord.
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੪੫॥
saran naanak prabh purakh apaar |4|32|45|
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, the Primal, the Infinite. ||4||32||45||

ਤਊ ਬਚਨ ਤੁਤਰਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥੮॥
taoo bachan tutaraat sunaavai |8|
ਕਹੋ ਤੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਇਕ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਊਾਂ ॥
kaho tu nrip ik bain sunaaooaan |
ਰਾਜ ਨਸਟ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਾਊਾਂ ॥
raaj nasatt te adhik ddaraaooaan |
ਭਾਨ ਛਟਾ ਤਵ ਸੁਤ ਬਿਖਿ ਦ੍ਰਯਾਈ ॥
bhaan chhattaa tav sut bikh drayaaee |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਹ︀ਯਾਂ ਆਈ ॥੯॥
taa te mai dhaavat hayaan aaee |9|
ਮੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਤਿਹ ਕਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
mero naam na tih keh deejai |
ਨਿਜੁ ਸੁਤ ਕੀ ਰਛਾਊ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
nij sut kee rachhaaoo keejai |
ਜੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਭਾਨ ਛਟਾ ਇਹ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
jau sun bhaan chhattaa ih jaavai |
ਚਿਤ ਕੌ ਹਿਤ ਹਮ ਸੌ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥੧੦॥
chit kau hit ham sau bisaraavai |10|
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਉਠਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਾ ॥
sunat bachan utth nripat sidhaaraa |
ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਪੂਤ ਛਿਤ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
mritak poot chhit pariyo nihaaraa |
ਰੋਵੈ ਲਾਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇਸਿ ॥
rovai laag adhik dukh paaeis |
ਦੈ ਦੈ ਪਾਗ ਧਰਨਿ ਪਟਕਾਇਸਿ ॥੧੧॥
dai dai paag dharan pattakaaeis |11|

ਭਖਤ ਸੂਮ ਸੋਫੀ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਖਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
bhakhat soom sofee mariyo bikheh na sakiyo pachaae |12|
ਤਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੇਸ ਤੇ ਰਾਨੀ ਲਈ ਮੰਗਾਇ ॥
tab raajaa geh kes te raanee lee mangaae |
ਸਾਚੁ ਝੂਠ ਸਮਝਿਯੋ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਜਮ ਪੁਰ ਦਈ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
saach jhootth samajhiyo na kachh jam pur dee patthaae |13|
ਸੁਤ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਸਵਤਿਹ ਸਹਿਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੌ ਕਿਯਾ ਪ︀ਯਾਰ ॥
sut maariyo savatih sahit nrip sau kiyaa payaar |
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਸਨ ਲਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੧੪॥

ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਤਿਹ ਰੂਪ ਕਹਤ ਜਗ ॥
apramaan tih roop kehat jag |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹਤ ਥਕਿਤ ਮਗ ॥੨॥
nirakh naar hvai rehat thakit mag |2|
ਜਾਤ ਜਿਤੈ ਰਿਤੁ ਪਤਿ ਜਿਮਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
jaat jitai rit pat jim bhayo |
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਉਜਾਰਿ ਪਾਛੇ ਬਨ ਗਯੋ ॥
hvai ujaar paachhe ban gayo |
ਪੁਰ ਜਨ ਚਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਸਬ ਹੀ ॥
pur jan chaleh sang utth sab hee |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਬਸੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਪੁਰ ਕਬ ਹੀ ॥੩॥
jaanuk base naeh pur kab hee |3|
ਜਿਤ ਜਿਤ ਜਾਤ ਕੁਅਰ ਮਗ ਭਯੋ ॥
jit jit jaat kuar mag bhayo |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਬਰਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਬੁਦ ਗਯੋ ॥
jaanuk barakh kripaabud gayo |
ਲੋਗਨ ਨੈਨ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਟੈ ॥
