Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
aape range sehaj subhaae |
He Himself imbues us with His Love, with effortless ease.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad har rang charraae |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are dyed in the color of the Lord's Love.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੀ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
man tan rataa rasanaa rang chaloolee bhai bhaae rang charraavaniaa |1|
This mind and body are so imbued, and this tongue is dyed in the deep crimson color of the poppy. Through the Love and the Fear of God, we are dyed in this color. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree nirbhau man vasaavaniaa |
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Fearless Lord within their minds.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kirapaa te har nirbhau dhiaaeaa bikh bhaujal sabad taraavaniaa |1| rahaau |
By Guru's Grace, I meditate on the Fearless Lord; the Shabad has carried me across the poisonous world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
manamukh mugadh kareh chaturaaee |
The idiotic self-willed manmukhs try to be clever,
ਨਾਤਾ ਧੋਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
naataa dhotaa thaae na paaee |
but in spite of their bathing and washing, they shall not be acceptable.
ਜੇਹਾ ਆਇਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਜਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
jehaa aaeaa tehaa jaasee kar avagan pachhotaavaniaa |2|
As they came, so shall they go, regretting the mistakes they made. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
manamukh andhe kichhoo na soojhai |
The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything;
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਆਏ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
maran likhaae aae nahee boojhai |
death was pre-ordained for them when they came into the world, but they do not understand.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
manamukh karam kare nahee paae bin naavai janam gavaavaniaa |3|
The self-willed manmukhs may practice religious rituals, but they do not obtain the Name; without the Name, they lose this life in vain. ||3||
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sach karanee sabad hai saar |
The practice of Truth is the essence of the Shabad.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
poorai gur paaeeai mokh duaar |
Through the Perfect Guru, the gate of salvation is found.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anadin baanee sabad sunaae sach raate rang rangaavaniaa |4|
So, night and day, listen to the Word of the Guru's Bani, and the Shabad. Let yourself be colored by this love. ||4||
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
rasanaa har ras raatee rang laae |
The tongue, imbued with the Lord's Essence, delights in His Love.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
man tan mohiaa sehaj subhaae |
My mind and body are enticed by the Lord's Sublime Love.
ਸਹਜੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sahaje preetam piaaraa paaeaa sahaje sehaj milaavaniaa |5|
I have easily obtained my Darling Beloved; I am intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jis andar rang soee gun gaavai |
Those who have the Lord's Love within, sing His Glorious Praises;
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
gur kai sabad sahaje sukh samaavai |
through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are intuitively absorbed in celestial peace.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
hau balihaaree sadaa tin vittahu gur sevaa chit laavaniaa |6|
I am forever a sacrifice to those who dedicate their consciousness to the Guru's Service. ||6||
ਸਚਾ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥
sachaa sacho sach pateejai |
The True Lord is pleased with Truth, and only Truth.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
gur parasaadee andar bheejai |
By Guru's Grace, one's inner being is deeply imbued with His Love.
ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਮਨਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bais suthaan har gun gaaveh aape kar sat manaavaniaa |7|
Sitting in that blessed place, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, who Himself inspires us to accept His Truth. ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar kare so paae |
That one, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, obtains it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur parasaadee haumai jaae |
By Guru's Grace, egotism departs.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੮॥੯॥
naanak naam vasai man antar dar sachai sobhaa paavaniaa |8|8|9|
O Nanak, that one, within whose mind the Name dwells, is honored in the True Court. ||8||8||9||

Maajh Third Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satigur seviai vaddee vaddiaaee |
Serving the True Guru is the greatest greatness.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
har jee achint vasai man aaee |
The Dear Lord automatically comes to dwell in the mind.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਖਾ ਲਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har jeeo safalio birakh hai amrit jin peetaa tis tikhaa lahaavaniaa |1|
The Dear Lord is the fruit-bearing tree; drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, thirst is quenched. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree sach sangat mel milaavaniaa |
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the one who leads me to join the True Congregation.
ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har satasangat aape melai gurasabadee har gun gaavaniaa |1| rahaau |
The Lord Himself unites me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
satigur sevee sabad suhaaeaa |
I serve the True Guru; the Word of His Shabad is beautiful.
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
jin har kaa naam man vasaaeaa |
Through it, the Name of the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
har niramal haumai mail gavaae dar sachai sobhaa paavaniaa |2|
The Pure Lord removes the filth of egotism, and we are honored in the True Court. ||2||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur naam na paaeaa jaae |
Without the Guru, the Naam cannot be obtained.
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
sidh saadhik rahe bilalaae |
The Siddhas and the seekers lack it; they weep and wail.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
bin gur seve sukh na hovee poorai bhaag gur paavaniaa |3|
Without serving the True Guru, peace is not obtained; through perfect destiny, the Guru is found. ||3||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਰਸੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
eihu man aarasee koee guramukh vekhai |
This mind is a mirror; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, see themselves in it.
ਮੋਰਚਾ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
morachaa na laagai jaa haumai sokhai |
Rust does not stick to those who burn their ego.
ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anahat baanee niramal sabad vajaae gurasabadee sach samaavaniaa |4|
The Unstruck Melody of the Bani resounds through the Pure Word of the Shabad; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are absorbed into the True One. ||4||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin satigur kihu na dekhiaa jaae |
Without the True Guru, the Lord cannot be seen.
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
gur kirapaa kar aap ditaa dikhaae |
Granting His Grace, He Himself has allowed me to see Him.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
aape aap aap mil rahiaa sahaje sehaj samaavaniaa |5|
All by Himself, He Himself is permeating and pervading; He is intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai su ikas siau liv laae |
One who becomes Gurmukh embraces love for the One.
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
doojaa bharam gur sabad jalaae |
Doubt and duality are burned away by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kaaeaa andar vanaj kare vaapaaraa naam nidhaan sach paavaniaa |6|
Within his body, he deals and trades, and obtains the Treasure of the True Name. ||6||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh karanee har keerat saar |
The life-style of the Gurmukh is sublime; he sings the Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh paae mokh duaar |
The Gurmukh finds the gate of salvation.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
anadin rang rataa gun gaavai andar mehal bulaavaniaa |7|
Night and day, he is imbued with the Lord's Love. He sings the Lord's Glorious Praises, and he is called to the Mansion of His Presence. ||7||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
satigur daataa milai milaaeaa |
The True Guru, the Giver, is met when the Lord leads us to meet Him.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
poorai bhaag man sabad vasaaeaa |
Through perfect destiny, the Shabad is enshrined in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੯॥੧੦॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee har sache ke gun gaavaniaa |8|9|10|
O Nanak, the greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained by chanting the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||8||9||10||

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੁਸਟ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਰ ਕੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨ ॥
eih bidh dusatt prajaar kai sasatr asatr kar leen |
In this way, destroying the tyrants, Durga again wore her weapons and armour.
ਬਾਣ ਬੂੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੈ ਬਰਖ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਦ ਪੁਨਿ ਕੀਨ ॥੩੨॥੧੮੮॥
baan boond prithamai barakh singh naad pun keen |32|188|
At first she showered her arrows and then her lion roared heavily.32.188.

ਸੁਣਿਯੋ ਸੁੰਭ ਰਾਯੰ ॥

ਚੜਿਯੋ ਚਉਪ ਚਾਯੰ ॥

When the demon-king Sumbh heard all that had happened, he marched forward in great excitement.
ਸਜੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਣੰ ॥
saje sasatr paanan |
ਚੜੇ ਜੰਗਿ ਜੁਆਣੰ ॥੩੩॥੧੮੯॥
charre jang juaanan |33|189|
His soldiers bedecked with weapons came forward to wage war.33.189.
ਲਗੈ ਢੋਲ ਢੰਕੇ ॥
lagai dtol dtanke |
ਕਮਾਣੰ ਕੜੰਕੇ ॥
kamaanan karranke |
The sound created by drums, bows
ਭਏ ਨਦ ਨਾਦੰ ॥
bhe nad naadan |
ਧੁਣੰ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਾਦੰ ॥੩੪॥੧੯੦॥
dhunan nirabikhaadan |34|190|
And trumpets were continuously heard.34.190.
ਚਮਕੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ॥
chamakee kripaanan |
ਹਠੇ ਤੇਜ ਮਾਣੰ ॥
hatthe tej maanan |
The swords of the persistent and renowned fighters glistened.
ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਹੁੰਕੇ ॥
mahaabeer hunke |
ਸੁ ਨੀਸਾਣ ਦ੍ਰੁੰਕੇ ॥੩੫॥੧੯੧॥
su neesaan drunke |35|191|
The great heroes raised loud shouts and the trumpets sounded.35.191.
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਗਰਜੇ ॥
chahoon or garaje |
ਸਬੇ ਦੇਵ ਲਰਜੇ ॥
sabe dev laraje |
The demons thundered from all the four sides and the gods collectively trembled.
ਸਰੰ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖੇ ॥
saran dhaar barakhe |
ਮਈਯਾ ਪਾਣ ਪਰਖੇ ॥੩੬॥੧੯੨॥
meeyaa paan parakhe |36|192|
Showering her arrows Durga herself is testing the dtength of all.36.192.

ਜੇ ਲਏ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਧਏ ॥

ਤਿਤੇ ਨਿਧਨ ਕਹੁੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਭਏ ॥
tite nidhan kahun praapat bhe |
All those demons, carrying their weapons, came in front of the goddess were all subjected to death.
ਝਮਕਤ ਭਈ ਅਸਨ ਕੀ ਧਾਰਾ ॥
jhamakat bhee asan kee dhaaraa |
ਭਭਕੇ ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਬਿਕਰਾਰਾ ॥੩੭॥੧੯੩॥
bhabhake rundd mundd bikaraaraa |37|193|
The edges of the swords are glistening and the headless trunks, in dreadful forms are raising their voices.37.193.
