ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ॥
aape karataa sabh jis karanaa |
O Creator, it is You Yourself who does all.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
jeea jant sabh teree saranaa |
All beings and creatures are under Your Protection.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
aape gupat varatai sabh antar gur kai sabad pachhaataa he |1|
You are hidden, and yet permeating within all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You are realized. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
har ke bhagat bhare bhanddaaraa |
Devotion to the Lord is a treasure overflowing.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
aape bakhase sabad veechaaraa |
He Himself blesses us with contemplative meditation on the Shabad.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jo tudh bhaavai soee karaseh sache siau man raataa he |2|
You do whatever You please; my mind is attuned to the True Lord. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲੋ ॥
aape heeraa ratan amolo |
You Yourself are the priceless diamond and jewel.
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲੋ ॥
aape nadaree tole tolo |
In Your Mercy, You weigh with Your scale.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
jeea jant sabh saran tumaaree kar kirapaa aap pachhaataa he |3|
All beings and creatures are under Your protection. One who is blessed by Your Grace realizes his own self. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
jis no nadar hovai dhur teree |
One who receives Your Mercy, O Primal Lord,
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
marai na jamai chookai feree |
does not die, and is not reborn; he is released from the cycle of reincarnation.
ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
saache gun gaavai din raatee jug jug eko jaataa he |4|
He sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, day and night, and, throughout the ages, he knows the One Lord. ||4||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
maaeaa mohi sabh jagat upaaeaa |
Emotional attachment to Maya wells up throughout the whole world,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਦੇਵ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
brahamaa bisan dev sabaaeaa |
from Brahma, Vishnu and all the demi-gods.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jo tudh bhaane se naam laage giaan matee pachhaataa he |5|
Those who are pleasing to Your Will, are attached to the Naam; through spiritual wisdom and understanding, You are recognized. ||5||
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
paap pun varatai sansaaraa |
The world is engrossed in vice and virtue.
ਹਰਖੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
harakh sog sabh dukh hai bhaaraa |
Happiness and misery are totally loaded with pain.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
guramukh hovai so sukh paae jin guramukh naam pachhaataa he |6|
One who becomes Gurmukh finds peace; such a Gurmukh recognizes the Naam. ||6||
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
kirat na koee mettanahaaraa |
No one can erase the record of one's actions.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
gur kai sabade mokh duaaraa |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one finds the door of salvation.
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
poorab likhiaa so fal paaeaa jin aap maar pachhaataa he |7|
One who conquers self-conceit and recognizes the Lord, obtains the fruits of his pre-destined rewards. ||7||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
maaeaa mohi har siau chit na laagai |
Emotionally attached to Maya, one's consciousness is not attached to the Lord.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥
doojai bhaae ghanaa dukh aagai |
In the love of duality, he will suffer terrible agony in the world hereafter.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
manamukh bharam bhule bhekhadhaaree ant kaal pachhutaataa he |8|
The hypocritical, self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt; at the very last moment, they regret and repent. ||8||
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
har kai bhaanai har gun gaae |
In accordance with the Lord's Will, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
sabh kilabikh kaatte dookh sabaae |
He is rid of all sins, and all suffering.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
har niramal niramal hai baanee har setee man raataa he |9|
The Lord is immaculate, and immaculate is the Word of His Bani. My mind is imbued with the Lord. ||9||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar kare so gun nidh paae |
One who is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, obtains the Lord, the treasure of virtue.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
haumai meraa tthaak rahaae |
Egotism and possessiveness are brought to an end.
ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
gun avagan kaa eko daataa guramukh viralee jaataa he |10|
The One Lord is the only Giver of virtue and vice, merits and demerits; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand this. ||10||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
meraa prabh niramal at apaaraa |
My God is immaculate, and utterly infinite.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
aape melai gur sabad veechaaraa |
God unites with Himself, through contemplation of the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
aape bakhase sach drirraae man tan saachai raataa he |11|
He Himself forgives, and implants the Truth. The mind and body are then attuned to the True Lord. ||11||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
man tan mailaa vich jot apaaraa |
Within the polluted mind and body is the Light of the Infinite Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramat boojhai kar veechaaraa |
One who understands the Guru's Teachings, contemplates this.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
haumai maar sadaa man niramal rasanaa sev sukhadaataa he |12|
Conquering egotism, the mind becomes immaculate forever; with his tongue, he serves the Lord, the Giver of peace. ||12||
ਗੜ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਹਟ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥
garr kaaeaa andar bahu hatt baajaaraa |
In the fortress of the body there are many shops and bazaars;
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich naam hai at apaaraa |
within them is the Naam, the Name of the utterly infinite Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gur kai sabad sadaa dar sohai haumai maar pachhaataa he |13|
In His Court, one is embellished forever with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; he conquers egotism and realizes the Lord. ||13||
ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ratan amolak agam apaaraa |
The jewel is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
keemat kavan kare vechaaraa |
How can the poor wretch estimate its worth?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kai sabade tol tolaae antar sabad pachhaataa he |14|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is weighed, and so the Shabad is realized deep within. ||14||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥
simrit saasatr bahut bisathaaraa |
The great volumes of the Simritees and the Shaastras
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
maaeaa mohu pasariaa paasaaraa |
Only extend the extension of attachment to Maya.
ਮੂਰਖ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
moorakh parreh sabad na boojheh guramukh viralai jaataa he |15|
The fools read them, but do not understand the Word of the Shabad. How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aape karataa kare karaae |
The Creator Himself acts, and causes all to act.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
sachee baanee sach drirraae |
Through the True Word of His Bani, Truth is implanted deep within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੯॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee jug jug eko jaataa he |16|9|
O Nanak, through the Naam, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and throughout the ages, the One Lord is known. ||16||9||

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਉ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥੪॥
taa kau raaj deo tthaharaayo |4|
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਤ ਹੌ ਤੋ ਕੌ ॥
ab mai raaj det hau to kau |
ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਮੋ ਕੌ ॥
nij naaree kariyahu tum mo kau |
ਜੋ ਮੈ ਤੁਮੈ ਕਹੌਂ ਸੋ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ॥
jo mai tumai kahauan so kariyahu |
ਯਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੇ ਨੈਕ ਨ ਡਰਿਯਹੁ ॥੫॥
yaa raajaa te naik na ddariyahu |5|
ਮਨ ਬੀਸਕ ਇਕ ਬਿਸਹਿ ਮੰਗੈਯੈ ॥
man beesak ik biseh mangaiyai |
ਸਭ ਭੋਜਨ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਡਰੈਯੈ ॥
sabh bhojan ke beech ddaraiyai |
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਆਨ ਸਭ ਖੈ ਹੈ ॥
raajaa sahit aan sabh khai hai |
ਛਿਨਕਿਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਜੈਹੈ ॥੬॥
chhinakik bikhai mritak hvai jaihai |6|

ਆਪ ਦੇਸ ਪਤਿ ਹੂਜਿਯੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਹਿਤ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥

sain sahit nivato nrip diyo |
ਸਭ ਭੋਜਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਬਿਸੁ ਡਾਰੀ ॥
sabh bhojan bheetar bis ddaaree |
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਬੇਸ੍ਵਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਖਵਾਰੀ ॥੮॥
sabhahin besvaa sahit khavaaree |8|
ਸੈਨ ਸਹਿਤ ਭਛਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਭਏ ॥
sain sahit bhachhat nrip bhe |
ਘਰਿਕਿਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਮੌਤ ਮਰਿ ਗਏ ॥
gharikik bikhai mauat mar ge |
ਜਿਯਤ ਬਚੇ ਤੋ ਤਿਨ ਗਹਿ ਘਾਏ ॥
jiyat bache to tin geh ghaae |
ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਏਕ ਜਾਨ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੯॥
tin te ek jaan neh paae |9|
ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਮਾਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਤਿਨ ਲਿਯੋ ॥
tin kau maar raaj tin liyo |
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਲੈ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
taa kau nij naaree lai kiyo |
ਹਾਥ ਠਾਢ ਕੀਨੋ ਤਿਹ ਘਾਯੋ ॥
haath tthaadt keeno tih ghaayo |
ਪਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
paae pariyo tih aan milaayo |10|
ਐਸੋ ਚਰਿਤ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
aiso charit chanchalaa keeno |
ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਯਕ ਕੌ ਬਧ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
nij naayak kau badh kar deeno |
ਔਰ ਸੂਰਮਨ ਕੌ ਬਧ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
aauar sooraman kau badh kiyo |
ਰਾਜ ਜਾਰ ਅਪਨੈ ਕੋ ਦਿਯੋ ॥੧੧॥

ਰਾਜ ਜਾਰ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਦਿਯੋ ਐਸੇ ਖੇਲਿ ਖਿਲਾਰਿ ॥੧੨॥
raaj jaar kau lai diyo aise khel khilaar |12|
