Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
aape aap upaae upanaa |
He Himself created Himself, and came into being.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥
sabh meh varatai ek parachhanaa |
The One Lord is pervading in all, remaining hidden.
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
sabhanaa saar kare jagajeevan jin apanaa aap pachhaataa he |1|
The Lord, the Life of the world, takes care of all. Whoever knows his own self, realizes God. ||1||
ਜਿਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
jin brahamaa bisan mahes upaae |
He who created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
sir sir dhandhai aape laae |
links each and every being to its tasks.
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jis bhaavai tis aape mele jin guramukh eko jaataa he |2|
He merges into Himself, whoever is pleasing to His Will. The Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||2||
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
aavaa gaun hai sansaaraa |
The world is coming and going in reincarnation.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤੈ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
maaeaa mohu bahu chitai bikaaraa |
Attached to Maya, it dwells on its many sins.
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
thir saachaa saalaahee sad hee jin gur kaa sabad pachhaataa he |3|
One who realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad, praises forever the eternal, unchanging True Lord. ||3||
ਇਕਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਲਗੇ ਓਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
eik mool lage onee sukh paaeaa |
Some are attached to the root - they find peace.
ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
ddaalee laage tinee janam gavaaeaa |
But those who are attached to the branches, waste their lives away uselessly.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੇ ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
amrit fal tin jan kau laage jo boleh amrit baataa he |4|
Those humble beings, who chant the Name of the Ambrosial Lord, produce the ambrosial fruit. ||4||
ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਬੋਲਹ ਬੋਲ ॥
ham gun naahee kiaa bolah bol |
I have no virtues; what words should I speak?
ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਤੋਲਹਿ ਤੋਲ ॥
too sabhanaa dekheh toleh tol |
You see all, and weigh them on Your scale.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jiau bhaavai tiau raakheh rahanaa guramukh eko jaataa he |5|
By Your will, You preserve me, and so do I remain. The Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||5||
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
jaa tudh bhaanaa taa sachee kaarai laae |
According to Your Will, You link me to my true tasks.
ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
avagan chhodd gun maeh samaae |
Renouncing vice, I am immersed in virtue.
ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
gun meh eko niramal saachaa gur kai sabad pachhaataa he |6|
The One Immaculate True Lord abides in virtue; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized. ||6||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
jeh dekhaa teh eko soee |
Wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
doojee duramat sabade khoee |
Duality and evil-mindedness are destroyed through the Shabad.
ਏਕਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਅਪਣੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਦ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
ekas meh prabh ek samaanaa apanai rang sad raataa he |7|
The One Lord God is immersed in His Oneness. He is attuned forever to His own delight. ||7||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਹੈ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥
kaaeaa kamal hai kumalaanaa |
The body-lotus is withering away,
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਇਆਣਾ ॥
manamukh sabad na bujhai eaanaa |
but the ignorant, self-willed manmukh does not understand the Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਖੋਜੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
gur parasaadee kaaeaa khoje paae jagajeevan daataa he |8|
By Guru's Grace, he searches his body, and finds the Great Giver, the Life of the world. ||8||
ਕੋਟ ਗਹੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
kott gahee ke paap nivaare |
The Lord frees up the body-fortress, which was seized by sins,
ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sadaa har jeeo raakhai ur dhaare |
when one keeps the Dear Lord enshrined forever in the heart.
ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
jo ichhe soee fal paae jiau rang majeetthai raataa he |9|
The fruits of his desires are obtained, and he is dyed in the permanent color of the Lord's Love. ||9||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
manamukh giaan kathe na hoee |
The self-willed manmukh speaks of spiritual wisdom, but does not understand.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
fir fir aavai tthaur na koee |
Again and again, he comes into the world, but he finds no place of rest.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
guramukh giaan sadaa saalaahe jug jug eko jaataa he |10|
The Gurmukh is spiritually wise, and praises the Lord forever. Throughout each and every age, the Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||10||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
manamukh kaar kare sabh dukh sabaae |
All the deeds which the manmukh does bring pain - nothing but pain.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
antar sabad naahee kiau dar jaae |
The Word of the Shabad is not within him; how can he go to the Court of the Lord?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
guramukh sabad vasai man saachaa sad seve sukhadaataa he |11|
The True Shabad dwells deep within the mind of the Gurmukh; he serves the Giver of peace forever. ||11||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
jeh dekhaa too sabhanee thaaee |
Wherever I look, I see You, everywhere.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
poorai gur sabh sojhee paaee |
Through the Perfect Guru, all this is known.
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
naamo naam dhiaaeeai sadaa sad ihu man naame raataa he |12|
I meditate forever and ever on the Naam; this mind is imbued with the Naam. ||12||
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
naame raataa pavit sareeraa |
Imbued with the Naam, the body is sanctified.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰਾ ॥
bin naavai ddoob mue bin neeraa |
Without the Naam, they are drowned and die without water.
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
aaveh jaaveh naam nahee boojheh ikanaa guramukh sabad pachhaataa he |13|
They come and go, but do not understand the Naam. Some, as Gurmukh, realize the Word of the Shabad. ||13||
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
poorai satigur boojh bujhaaee |
The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
vin naavai mukat kinai na paaee |
Without the Name, no one attains liberation.
ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
naame naam milai vaddiaaee sehaj rahai rang raataa he |14|
Through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he remains intuitively attuned to the Lord's Love. ||14||
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ॥
kaaeaa nagar dtahai dteh dteree |
The body-village crumbles and collapses into a pile of dust.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
bin sabadai chookai nahee feree |
Without the Shabad, the cycle of reincarnation is not brought to an end.
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
saach salaahe saach samaavai jin guramukh eko jaataa he |15|
One who knows the One Lord, through the True Guru, praises the True Lord, and remains immersed in the True Lord. ||15||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar kare so paae |
The True Word of the Shabad comes to dwell in the mind,
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
saachaa sabad vasai man aae |
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੮॥
naanak naam rate nirankaaree dar saachai saach pachhaataa he |16|8|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, realize the True Lord in His True Court. ||16||8||

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਰਾਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਸੁਰ ਸੁਰਪਤਿ ਕੋਊ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥

ਵਾ ਸੁਤ ਕੋ ਕਛੁ ਸੋਕ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
vaa sut ko kachh sok na keejai |
ਔਰ ਮਾਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੇ ਸੁਤ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੬॥

ਵਾ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ਨ ਕੀਜਿਯੈ ਸੁਨ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਕੁਮਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
vaa ko sok na keejiyai sun sundar sukumaar |7|

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੁਧਿ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਗਈ ॥
grih kee sabh sudh bisar taeh tab hee gee |
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਲਿਯੋ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
patthai sahacharee taa kau liyo mangaae kai |
ਹੋ ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੯॥
ho kaam kel tih sang kariyo sukh paae kai |9|

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜਾਨਿ ਨ ਮੋ ਬਧਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦॥

ਥੋ ਬਾਲਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਹਰਿਯੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਭਿਰਟੀ ਕੇ ਭੇਸ ॥

ਮੈ ਜਾਨਤ ਨਹਿ ਕਵਨ ਸੁਤ ਬਸਤ ਕਵਨ ਸੇ ਦੇਸ ॥੧੧॥
mai jaanat neh kavan sut basat kavan se des |11|

ਜਾਰ ਸੰਗ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਿਖਾਈ ॥
jaar sang ih bhaat sikhaaee |
ਆਪ ਰਾਵ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ਜਤਾਈ ॥
aap raav so jaae jataaee |
ਜੋ ਬਾਲਕ ਮੈ ਪੂਤ ਗਵਾਯੋ ॥
jo baalak mai poot gavaayo |
ਸੋ ਮੈ ਆਜੁ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
so mai aaj khoj te paayo |12|
ਸੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੰਦਿਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
sun nrip bachan anandit bhayo |
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬੋਲਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਤਬ ਲਯੋ ॥
taa ko bol nikatt tab layo |
ਤਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
tab raanee ih bhaat uchaaro |
ਸੁਨੋ ਪੂਤ ਤੁਮ ਬਚਨ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੩॥
suno poot tum bachan hamaaro |13|
ਸਕਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਤੁਮ ਕਹੋ ॥
sakal brithaa apanee tum kaho |
ਹਮਰੇ ਸਭ ਸੋਕਨ ਕਹ ਦਹੋ ॥
hamare sabh sokan keh daho |
ਰਾਜਾ ਸੋਂ ਕਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
raajaa son keh pragatt sunaayo |
ਰਾਜਪੂਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥੧੪॥
raajapoot hvai raaj kamaayo |14|
ਸੁਨੁ ਰਾਨੀ ਮੈ ਕਹਾ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
sun raanee mai kahaa bakhaano |
ਬਾਲਕ ਹੁਤੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
baalak huto kachhoo neh jaano |
ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਤੁਮ ਤਨ ਕਹਿਹੌ ॥
jogee kahiyo su tum tan kahihau |
ਸੋਕ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ਦਹਿਹੌ ॥੧੫॥
sok santaap tihaaro dahihau |15|
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਯੌ ਜੌਗੀਸ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
eik din yau jauagees uchaariyo |
ਸੂਰਤਿ ਸਹਿਰ ਬਡੋ ਉਜਿਯਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
soorat sahir baddo ujiyaariyo |
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਭਿਰਟੀ ਮੈ ਤਹਾ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
hvai bhirattee mai tahaa sidhaayo |
ਬਾਲਕ ਸੁਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੬॥
baalak sut raajaa ko paayo |16|
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਭਿਰਟੀ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਮੈ ਧਯੋ ॥
hvai bhirattee jab hee mai dhayo |
ਭਾਜਿ ਲੋਗ ਆਗੇ ਤੇ ਗਯੋ ॥
bhaaj log aage te gayo |
ਤੋਹਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਬਗਲੀ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
tohi ddaar bagalee meh leeno |
ਔਰੈ ਦੇਸ ਪਯਾਨੋ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੭॥
aauarai des payaano keeno |17|
ਚੇਲਾ ਅਵਰ ਭਛ ਤਬ ਲ︀ਯਾਏ ॥
chelaa avar bhachh tab layaae |
ਤਾਹਿ ਖ੍ਵਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਥ ਰਿਝਾਏ ॥
taeh khvaae kar naath rijhaae |
ਭਛਨ ਕਾਜਿ ਔਰ ਕੋਊ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥
bhachhan kaaj aauar koaoo dhariyo |
ਰਾਵ ਪੂਤ ਲਖਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਬਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
raav poot lakh mohi ubariyo |18|

ਸੁਨੁ ਰਾਨੀ ਐਸੇ ਬਚਨ ਨੈਨਨ ਨੀਰੁ ਬਹਾਇ ॥

ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਦੇਖਤ ਸੁਤ ਜਾਰ ਕਹਿ ਲਯੋ ਗਰੇ ਸੋ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੯॥
nrip dekhat sut jaar keh layo gare so laae |19|

ਗਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਗਰੇ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥

dekhat raav choonb mukh jaavai |
ਅਪਨੇ ਧਾਮ ਸੇਜ ਡਸਵਾਈ ॥
apane dhaam sej ddasavaaee |
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨੧॥

ਆਠੋ ਜਾਮ ਧਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
aattho jaam dhaam tih raakhai |
ਪੂਤ ਪੂਤ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
poot poot mukh te tih bhaakhai |
ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਨਿਸਿ ਭਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

ਮੂਰਖ ਰਾਵ ਭੇਦ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨੨॥
