Whosover was shot with the arrow, he was killed instantly.
ਜਿਤੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

ਤਿਤੈ ਸੈਨ ਘਾਯੋ ॥੨੧॥੫੯॥
titai sain ghaayo |21|59|
Wherever the lion rushed forward, he destroyed the army.21.59.
ਜਿਤੈ ਘਾਇ ਡਾਲੇ ॥
jitai ghaae ddaale |
ਤਿਤੈ ਘਾਰਿ ਘਾਲੇ ॥
titai ghaar ghaale |
All those who were killed, they were thrown into caves.
ਸਮੁਹਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਆਯੋ ॥
samuhi satru aayo |
ਸੁ ਜਾਨੇ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੨੨॥੬੦॥
su jaane na paayo |22|60|
The enemies who confronted coul not return alive.22.60.
ਜਿਤੇ ਜੁਝ ਰੁਝੇ ॥

ਤਿਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਜੁਝੇ ॥

Those who were active in the battlefield, they were all decimated.

ਤਿਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਡਾਲੇ ॥੨੩॥੬੧॥

Those who caught hold of weapons, they were all killed.23.61.
ਤਬੈ ਮਾਤ ਕਾਲੀ ॥

ਤਪੀ ਤੇਜ ਜੁਵਾਲੀ ॥
tapee tej juvaalee |
Then the mother Kali flared up like the flaming fire.
ਜਿਸੈ ਘਾਵ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jisai ghaav ddaariyo |
ਸੁ ਸੁਰਗੰ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੪॥੬੨॥
su suragan sidhaariyo |24|62|
To whomsoever she struck, he departed for heaven.24.62.
ਘਰੀ ਅਧ ਮਧੰ ॥

ਹਨਿਯੋ ਸੈਨ ਸੁਧੰ ॥

The whole army was destroyed within a very short time.

Dhumar Nain was killed and the gods heard about it in heaven.25.63.

The demon forces ran towards their king.
ਧੂਮ੍ਰਨੈਣ ਕਾਲੀ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਭਜੀਯੋ ਸੈਨ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥੨੬॥੬੪॥
dhoomranain kaalee haniyo bhajeeyo sain niraas |26|64|
Intimating him that Kali had killed Dhumar Nain and the forces had fled in disappointment.26.64.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਧੂਮ੍ਰਨੈਨ ਬਧਤ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੨॥

In this way, killing the demons, the goddess Durga went to her abode.
ਜੋ ਯਹ ਕਥਾ ਪੜੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਤਾਸ ॥੧॥੬੫॥
jo yeh kathaa parrai sunai ridh sidh grihi taas |1|65|
He who read or listens to this discourse, he will attain in his house wealth and miraculous powers.1.65.

ਧੂਮ੍ਰਨੈਣ ਜਬ ਸੁਣੇ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥

When it was learnt that Dhumar Nain had been killed,
ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਤਬ ਭੂਪਿ ਹਕਾਰੇ ॥
chandd mundd tab bhoop hakaare |
The demon-king then called Chand and Mund.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰ ਪਠਏ ਸਨਮਾਨਾ ॥
bahu bidh kar patthe sanamaanaa |
They were sent after bestowing many honours on them.
ਹੈ ਗੈ ਪਤਿ ਦੀਏ ਰਥ ਨਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੬੬॥
hai gai pat dee rath naanaa |2|66|
And also many gifts like horses, elephants and chariots.2.66.
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਦੇਬੀਅਹਿ ਜੇ ਆਏ ॥
pritham nirakh debeeeh je aae |
Those who had earlier seen the goddess
ਤੇ ਧਵਲਾ ਗਿਰਿ ਓਰਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
te dhavalaa gir or patthaae |
They were sent towards kailash mountain (as spies).
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਤਨਿਕ ਭਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
tin kee tanik bhanak sun paaee |
When the goddess heard some rumour about them
ਨਿਸਿਰੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਮਾਈ ॥੩॥੬੭॥
nisiree sasatr asatr lai maaee |3|67|
She then promptly came down with her weapons and armour.3.67.

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
bhe kripaal govind gusaaee |
The Lord of the Universe, the Support of the earth, has become Merciful;
ਮੇਘੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
megh varasai sabhanee thaaee |
the rain is falling everywhere.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਠਾਢਿ ਪਾਈ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
deen deaal sadaa kirapaalaa tthaadt paaee karataare jeeo |1|
He is Merciful to the meek, always Kind and Gentle; the Creator has brought cooling relief. ||1||
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ॥
apune jeea jant pratipaare |
He cherishes all His beings and creatures,
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਮਾਤਾ ਸੰਮਾਰੇ ॥
jiau baarik maataa samaare |
as the mother cares for her children.
ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇਤ ਸਗਲ ਆਹਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
dukh bhanjan sukh saagar suaamee det sagal aahaare jeeo |2|
The Destroyer of pain, the Ocean of Peace, the Lord and Master gives sustenance to all. ||2||
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
jal thal poor rahiaa miharavaanaa |
The Merciful Lord is totally pervading and permeating the water and the land.
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥
sad balihaar jaaeeai kurabaanaa |
I am forever devoted, a sacrifice to Him.
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈ ਜਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
rain dinas tis sadaa dhiaaee ji khin meh sagal udhaare jeeo |3|
Night and day, I always meditate on Him; in an instant, He saves all. ||3||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ॥
raakh lee sagale prabh aape |
God Himself protects all;
ਉਤਰਿ ਗਏ ਸਭ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
autar ge sabh sog santaape |
He drives out all sorrow and suffering.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੩੬॥
naam japat man tan hareeaaval prabh naanak nadar nihaare jeeo |4|29|36|
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind and body are rejuvenated. O Nanak, God has bestowed His Glance of Grace. ||4||29||36||

ਜਿਥੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

Where the Naam, the Name of God the Beloved is chanted
ਸੇ ਅਸਥਲ ਸੋਇਨ ਚਉਬਾਰੇ ॥
se asathal soein chaubaare |
those barren places become mansions of gold.
ਜਿਥੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪੀਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਇਦਾ ਸੇਈ ਨਗਰ ਉਜਾੜੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
jithai naam na japeeai mere goeidaa seee nagar ujaarree jeeo |1|
Where the Naam, the Name of my Lord of the Universe is not chanted-those towns are like the barren wilderness. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਰੁਖੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਇ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
har rukhee rottee khaae samaale |
One who meditates as he eats dry bread,
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥
har antar baahar nadar nihaale |
sees the Blessed Lord inwardly and outwardly.
ਖਾਇ ਖਾਇ ਕਰੇ ਬਦਫੈਲੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਵਿਸੂ ਕੀ ਵਾੜੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
khaae khaae kare badafailee jaan visoo kee vaarree jeeo |2|
Know this well, that one who eats and eats while practicing evil, is like a field of poisonous plants. ||2||
ਸੰਤਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥
santaa setee rang na laae |
One who does not feel love for the Saints,
ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਵਿਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
saakat sang vikaram kamaae |
misbehaves in the company of the wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics;
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਖੋਈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੜ ਅਪੁਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾੜੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
dulabh deh khoee agiaanee jarr apunee aap upaarree jeeo |3|
he wastes this human body, so difficult to obtain. In his ignorance, he tears up his own roots. ||3||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
teree saran mere deen deaalaa |
I seek Your Sanctuary, O my Lord, Merciful to the meek,
ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
sukh saagar mere gur gopaalaa |
Ocean of Peace, my Guru, Sustainer of the world.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮ ਅਸਾੜੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੩੭॥
kar kirapaa naanak gun gaavai raakhahu saram asaarree jeeo |4|30|37|
Shower Your Mercy upon Nanak, that he may sing Your Glorious Praises; please, preserve my honor. ||4||30||37||

ਚਰਣ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥
charan tthaakur ke ridai samaane |
I cherish in my heart the Feet of my Lord and Master.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਸਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਇਆਣੇ ॥
kal kales sabh door peaane |
All my troubles and sufferings have run away.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
saant sookh sehaj dhun upajee saadhoo sang nivaasaa jeeo |1|
The music of intuitive peace, poise and tranquility wells up within; I dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਮੂਲੇ ॥
laagee preet na toottai moole |
The bonds of love with the Lord are never broken.
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
har antar baahar rahiaa bharapoore |
The Lord is totally permeating and pervading inside and out.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
simar simar simar gun gaavaa kaattee jam kee faasaa jeeo |2|
Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him, singing His Glorious Praises, the noose of death is cut away. ||2||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਖੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
amrit varakhai anahad baanee |
The Ambrosial Nectar, the Unstruck Melody of Gurbani rains down continually;
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
man tan antar saant samaanee |
deep within my mind and body, peace and tranquility have come.
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
tripat aghaae rahe jan tere satigur keea dilaasaa jeeo |3|
Your humble servants remain satisfied and fulfilled, and the True Guru blesses them with encouragement and comfort. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jis kaa saa tis te fal paaeaa |
We are His, and from Him, we receive our rewards.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh sang milaaeaa |
Showering His Mercy upon us, God has united us with Him.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੩੮॥
aavan jaan rahe vaddabhaagee naanak pooran aasaa jeeo |4|31|38|
Our comings and goings have ended, and through great good fortune, O Nanak, our hopes are fulfilled. ||4||31||38||

ਮੀਹੁ ਪਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
meehu peaa paramesar paaeaa |
The rain has fallen; I have found the Transcendent Lord God.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
jeea jant sabh sukhee vasaaeaa |
All beings and creatures dwell in peace.
ਗਇਆ ਕਲੇਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
geaa kales bheaa sukh saachaa har har naam samaalee jeeo |1|
Suffering has been dispelled, and true happiness has dawned, as we meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਸੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ॥
jis ke se tin hee pratipaare |
The One, to whom we belong, cherishes and nurtures us.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
paarabraham prabh bhe rakhavaare |
The Supreme Lord God has become our Protector.
ਸੁਣੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਘਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
sunee benantee tthaakur merai pooran hoee ghaalee jeeo |2|
My Lord and Master has heard my prayer; my efforts have been rewarded. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sarab jeea kau devanahaaraa |
He is the Giver of all souls.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
gur parasaadee nadar nihaaraa |
By Guru's Grace, He blesses us with His Glance of Grace.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹੀਅਲ ਸਭਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਣੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
jal thal maheeal sabh tripataane saadhoo charan pakhaalee jeeo |3|
The beings in the water, on the land and in the sky are all satisfied; I wash the Feet of the Holy. ||3||
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਇਛ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
man kee ichh pujaavanahaaraa |
He is the Fulfiller of the desires of the mind.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
sadaa sadaa jaaee balihaaraa |
Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਸਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੩੯॥
naanak daan keea dukh bhanjan rate rang rasaalee jeeo |4|32|39|
O Nanak, the Destroyer of pain has given this Gift; I am imbued with the Love of the Delightful Lord. ||4||32||39||
