ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal prabh raakhe cheet |
I have enshrined the lotus feet of God within my consciousness.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤ ॥
har gun gaavah neetaa neet |
I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, continually, continuously.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
tis bin doojaa avar na koaoo |
There is none other than Him at all.
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਊ ॥੧॥
aad madh ant hai soaoo |1|
He alone exists, in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. ||1||
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

He Himself is the Shelter of the Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
jaa kai vas hai sagal sansaar |
The entire universe is under His control.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
aape aap aap nirankaar |
He Himself, the Formless Lord, is Himself by Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਹਿਓ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
naanak gahio saachaa soe |
Nanak holds tight to that True Lord.
ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥੯॥
sukh paaeaa fir dookh na hoe |2|9|
He has found peace, and shall never suffer pain again. ||2||9||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਅਗਿਆਨਥ ॥
praan sukhadaataa jeea sukhadaataa tum kaahe bisaario agiaanath |
He is the Giver of peace to the breath of life, the Giver of life to the soul; how can you forget Him, you ignorant person?
ਹੋਛਾ ਮਦੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਹੋਏ ਤੁਮ ਬਾਵਰ ਦੁਲਭ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ॥੧॥
hochhaa mad chaakh hoe tum baavar dulabh janam akaarath |1|
You taste the weak, insipid wine, and you have gone insane. You have uselessly wasted this precious human life. ||1||
ਰੇ ਨਰ ਐਸੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਆਨਥ ॥
re nar aisee kareh eaanath |
O man, such is the foolishness you practice.
ਤਜਿ ਸਾਰੰਗਧਰ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਤੂ ਭੂਲਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਨਥ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taj saarangadhar bhram too bhoolaa mohi lapattio daasee sang saanath |1| rahaau |
Renouncing the Lord, the Support of the earth, you wander, deluded by doubt; you are engrossed in emotional attachment, associating with Maya, the slave-girl. ||1||Pause||
ਧਰਣੀਧਰੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨੀਚ ਕੁਲ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵਥ ॥
dharaneedhar tiaag neech kul seveh hau hau karat bihaavath |
Abandoning the Lord, the Support of the earth, you serve her of lowly ancestry, and you pass you life acting egotistically.
ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧ ਕਹਾਵਥ ॥੨॥
fokatt karam kareh agiaanee manamukh andh kahaavath |2|
You do useless deeds, you ignorant person; this is why you are called a blind, self-willed manmukh. ||2||
ਸਤਿ ਹੋਤਾ ਅਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਜਾਨਥ ॥
sat hotaa asat kar maaniaa jo binasat so nihachal jaanath |
That which is true, you believe to be untrue; what is transitory, you believe to be permanent.
ਪਰ ਕੀ ਕਉ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਪਕਰੀ ਐਸੇ ਭੂਲ ਭੁਲਾਨਥ ॥੩॥
par kee kau apanee kar pakaree aise bhool bhulaanath |3|
You grasp as your own, what belongs to others; in such delusions you are deluded. ||3||
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦ ਵੈਸ ਸਭ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਨਥ ॥
khatree braahaman sood vais sabh ekai naam taraanath |
The Kh'shaatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas all cross over, through the Name of the One Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੁਨੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਥ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥
gur naanak upades kehat hai jo sunai so paar paraanath |4|1|10|
Guru Nanak speaks the Teachings; whoever listens to them is carried across. ||4||1||10||

ਗੁਪਤੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਡਹਕਾਵਏ ਮਨੁਖਾਇ ॥
gupat karataa sang so prabh ddahakaave manukhaae |
You may act in secrecy, but God is still with you; you can only deceive other people.
ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਖੈ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਤਪਤ ਥੰਮ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
bisaar har jeeo bikhai bhogeh tapat tham gal laae |1|
Forgetting your Dear Lord, you enjoy corrupt pleasures, and so you shall have to embrace red-hot pillars. ||1||
ਰੇ ਨਰ ਕਾਇ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
re nar kaae par grihi jaae |
O man, why do you go out to the households of others?
ਕੁਚਲ ਕਠੋਰ ਕਾਮਿ ਗਰਧਭ ਤੁਮ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kuchal katthor kaam garadhabh tum nahee sunio dharam raae |1| rahaau |
You filthy, heartless, lustful donkey! Haven't you heard of the Righteous Judge of Dharma? ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਕਾਰ ਪਾਥਰ ਗਲਹਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਨਿੰਦ ਪੋਟ ਸਿਰਾਇ ॥
bikaar paathar galeh baadhe nind pott siraae |
The stone of corruption is tied around your neck, and the load of slander is on your head.
ਮਹਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਮੁਦੁ ਲੰਘਨਾ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਰਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
mahaa saagar samud langhanaa paar na paranaa jaae |2|
You must cross over the vast open ocean, but you cannot cross over to the other side. ||2||
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਰਖੇ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohi biaapio netr rakhe firaae |
You are engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment; you have turned your eyes away from the Truth.
ਸੀਸੁ ਉਠਾਵਨ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਮਿਲਈ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਤਰ ਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
sees utthaavan na kabahoo milee mahaa dutar maae |3|
You cannot even raise your head above the water of the vast, impassable sea of Maya. ||3||
ਸੂਰੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸਸੀ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਲਿਪਾਇ ॥
soor mukataa sasee mukataa braham giaanee alipaae |
The sun is liberated, and the moon is liberated; the God-realized being is pure and untouched.
ਸੁਭਾਵਤ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
subhaavat jaise baisantar alipat sadaa niramalaae |4|
His inner nature is like that of fire, untouched and forever immaculate. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਖੁਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਹਿਆ ਪੜਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
jis karam khuliaa tis lahiaa parradaa jin gur peh maniaa subhaae |
When good karma dawns, the wall of doubt is torn down. He lovingly accepts the Guru's Will.
ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥੨॥
gur mantru avakhadh naam deenaa jan naanak sankatt jon na paae |5|2|
One who is blessed with the medicine of the GurMantra, the Name of the Lord, O servant Nanak, does not suffer the agonies of reincarnation. ||5||2||
ਰੇ ਨਰ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਇ ॥
re nar in bidh paar paraae |
O man, in this way, you shall cross over to the other side.
ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥੧੧॥
dhiaae har jeeo hoe miratak tiaag doojaa bhaau | rahaau doojaa |2|11|
Meditate on your Dear Lord, and be dead to the world; renounce your love of duality. ||Second Pause||2||11||

ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਜੁ ਨਰ ਦੋਊ ਆਖਿ ਮੁੰਦਾਵੈ ॥
pratham ju nar doaoo aakh mundaavai |
ਰਾਤਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੀ ਤੁਰੈ ਧਵਾਵੈ ॥
raat andheree turai dhavaavai |
(It was announced,) ‘Primarily the person should blindfold both hiseyes and then travel when it is dark at night.
ਬਾਦਗਸਤਿਯਾ ਇਹ ਸਰ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
baadagasatiyaa ih sar maarai |
ਸੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੈ ਸਾਥ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੯॥
so raanee kai saath bihaarai |9|
‘Then, ifhe could hit it (the funnel) with an arrow, that person willmake love with Rani.’(9)
ਯਹ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਾਤ ਸਭਨ ਹੂੰ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
yeh sun baat sabhan hoon paayo |
ਬਿਸਿਖ ਚਲਾਤ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਧਵਾਯੋ ॥
bisikh chalaat turang dhavaayo |
Hearing the news, many came from all sides.
ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਅਧੇਰੀ ਆਖਿ ਮੁੰਦਾਵੈ ॥
raatr adheree aakh mundaavai |
ਚੋਟ ਚਲਾਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧੦॥
chott chalaat kahoon kahoon jaavai |10|
During dark night, they shot the arrows but all those would goastray.(10)
ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਏਸ੍ਵਰ ਚਲਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
des des esvar chal aavai |
ਆਖਿ ਮੂੰਦ ਦੋਊ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥
aakh moond doaoo teer chalaavai |
The Rajas came from many countries.They would shoot arrows with eyes closed.
ਅਰਧ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਕਛੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
aradh raatr kachh drisatt na aavai |
ਛੋਰੈ ਚੋਟ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧੧॥
chhorai chott kahoon kahoon jaavai |11|
Being not able to see at night, their arrows would go astray.(11)

ਅਰਧ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਮੂੰਦੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਸਭ ਕੋਊ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਇ ॥
aradh raatr moonde drigan sabh koaoo teer chalaae |
They all shot arrows at midnight with eyes closed.
ਜੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੌ ਸਕੈ ਨਿਜੁ ਰਾਨਿਨ ਦੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
jeet na raanee kau sakai nij raanin dai jaae |12|
They could not win Rani but lost their own Ranis.(l2)

ਰਾਜਾ ਜੂ ਹਰਖਿਤ ਅਤਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
raajaa joo harakhit at bhayo |
ਰਾਨੀ ਭਲੋ ਭੇਦ ਕਹਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
raanee bhalo bhed keh dayo |
Raja (Himmat Singh) was much pleased that Rani had revealed secret tohim.
ਸੁਜਨਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਜੂ ਕੋ ਕੋ ਪੈ ਹੈ ॥
sujan kuar joo ko ko pai hai |
ਨਿਜੁ ਰਾਨਿਨ ਮੋ ਕੌ ਦੈ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
nij raanin mo kau dai jai hai |13|
‘No one could win Sujjan Kumari, rather, one could lose his Rani to me.(13)
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਪਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੂ ਆਏ ॥
tab lau param singh joo aae |
ਜਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਸੌ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
jih raanee sau kel kamaae |
In the meantime came Parm Singh who had been enjoying with Rani.
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਡੇਰਾ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
bhalee bhaat dderaa tih deeno |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੌ ਆਦਰੁ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੪॥
bhaat bhaat sau aadar keeno |14|
Be put up his camp at a nice place and was endowed honour.(14)
ਰੈਨਿ ਭਈ ਰਾਨੀਯਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
rain bhee raaneeyeh bulaayo |
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਤਵਨ ਸੌ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
bahur tavan sau kel kamaayo |
At night Rani called him over and enjoyed lovemaking with him.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਭਏ ਬਾਸ ਉਤਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
andhakaar bhe baas utaariyo |
ਕੁਪਿਯਾ ਕੌ ਭੂ ਪਰ ਧਰਿ ਪਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੫॥
kupiyaa kau bhoo par dhar paariyo |15|
In the darkness of night, she took down the bamboo and threw thefunnel on the ground.(15)

ਕੁਪਿਯਹਿ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਕਰਿ ਵੈਸਹਿ ਧਰੀ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
kupiyeh baan prahaar kar vaiseh dharee banaae |
He hit the funnel with an arrow and left it there.
ਬਿਦਾ ਕਿਯੋ ਰਤਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਐਸੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਖਾਇ ॥੧੬॥
bidaa kiyo rat maan kai aiso mantr sikhaae |16|
And after lovemaking, she told him a few anecdotes and let himgo.(16)

ਤੁਮ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਪੈ ਜੈਯੋ ॥
tum ab hee raajaa pai jaiyo |
ਐਸੇ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰਤ ਹ੍ਵੈਯੋ ॥
aise bachan uchaarat hvaiyo |
She asked him, ‘Now you go to the Raja and tell him,
ਹੋਹੂੰ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਬਗਾਵਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
hohoon bisikh bagaavan aayo |
ਚਾਹਤ ਤੁਮੈ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
chaahat tumai charitr dikhaayo |17|
“I have come too and want to show my skill.” (17)
ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਭਯੋ ਅਨੰਦੰ ॥
raajaa ko man bhayo anandan |
ਬੋਲਤ ਬਚਨ ਕਹਾ ਮਤਿ ਮੰਦੰ ॥
bolat bachan kahaa mat mandan |
The Raja felt blissful and thought over what he was saying.
ਆਖਿ ਮੂੰਦਿ ਦੋਊ ਬਾਨ ਚਲੈਹੌ ॥
aakh moond doaoo baan chalaihau |
ਯਾ ਕੀ ਦੋਊ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਗਹਿ ਲੈ ਹੋ ॥੧੮॥
yaa kee doaoo triyaa geh lai ho |18|
‘With eyes closed he won’t be able to hit and I will take his both the wives.’ (18)
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਂਖਿ ਬਾਧਿ ਦੋਊ ਲਈ ॥
taa kee aankh baadh doaoo lee |
ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਦਈ ॥
teer kamaan haath mai dee |
He was blindfolded and was given a bow and arrows.
ਚਾਬੁਕ ਹੈ ਹਨਿ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਬਗਾਯੋ ॥
chaabuk hai han bisikh bagaayo |
ਉਹਾ ਠਾਢਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਾਲ ਬਜਾਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
auhaa tthaadt triy taal bajaayo |19|
Whipping, the horse was made to run and the woman standing thereclapped her hands.(19)
ਸਭਨ ਤਰਾਕ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sabhan taraak sabad sun paayo |
ਜਾਨੁਕਿ ਇਨ ਤਿਹ ਤੀਰ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
jaanuk in tih teer lagaayo |
Every body heard the noise (of clapping) and thought the arrow had hit.
ਬਾਸ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਹਿ ਕਹਾ ॥
baas utaar bilokeh kahaa |
ਬਾਕੋ ਬਾਨ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਉਹਾ ॥੨੦॥
baako baan biraajat uhaa |20|
When they pulled out the bamboo, they saw the funnel lying therewith an arrow in it.(20)
