ਛਲਿਯੋ ਛੈਲ ਦਾਨੋ ਇਸੀ ਛਲੈ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
chhaliyo chhail daano isee chhalai baalaa |
ਲੀਯੋ ਬਸ੍ਰਯ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਆਲਾ ॥
leeyo basray kai kai mahaa roop aalaa |
The woman, through her charm, brought the devil under her control.
ਬੰਧ੍ਰਯੋ ਬੀਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੇ ਜੋਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
bandhrayo beer mantraan ke jor aayo |
ਸਭੈ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬਾਸੀਨ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥੩੪॥
sabhai graam baaseen kau lai dikhaayo |34|
Through her incantation she tied him up and presented to the people of the town.(34)
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬਾਸੀਨ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਦਿਖਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
pratham graam baaseen kau lai dikhaariyo |
ਪੁਨਿਰ ਖੋਦਿ ਭੂਮੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਗਾਡਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
punir khod bhoomai tisai gaadd ddaariyo |
First she displayed him in the village and then she buried him in the ground.
ਜਿਨੈ ਲੈ ਗਦਾ ਕੋ ਘਨੋ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
jinai lai gadaa ko ghano beer maare |
ਭਏ ਤੇਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੩੫॥
bhe tej mantraan kete bichaare |35|
The mace, through which he had killed many, was just reduced to a humble thing.(35)

ਜਿਨ ਖੇਚਰ ਕਰ ਖਗ ਲੈ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਹਨੇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

The devil who had, using his sword, slaughtered many Kashatris,
ਤੇ ਛੈਲੀ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਛਲਿਯੋ ਐਸੋ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੩੬॥
te chhailee ih chhal chhaliyo aiso charitr bichaar |36|
He was, through fruits, deluded by a woman.(36)(1)

In the country of Tapeesa, there was a fort inhabited by the sages.
ਜੀਤਿ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਤਿਹ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਭਿਰਿ ਭਿਰਿ ਗਏ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥
jeet na koaoo tih sakiyo bhir bhir ge anek |1|
In spite of many efforts none could conquer it.(1)

ਅਬਦੁਲ ਨਬੀ ਤਹਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

ਚਾਰਿ ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਲਗਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
chaar dayos lag judh machaayo |
One Mughal, Abdul Nabhi, raided the place and, for four days, the fighting went on.
ਅਧਿਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੋਲਿਨ ਕੀ ਭਈ ॥
adhik maar golin kee bhee |
ਭ੍ਰਿਤਨ ਬਿਸਰ ਸਕਲ ਸੁਧਿ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
bhritan bisar sakal sudh gee |2|
The bombardment was so intense that all the inhabitants lost their nerves.(2)
ਆਖਰ ਗੜੀ ਤਵਨ ਕੌ ਤੋਰਿਯੋ ॥
aakhar garree tavan kau toriyo |
ਯਾ ਕੌ ਕਿਨੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਰੋ ਮੋਰਿਯੋ ॥
yaa kau kinee na muharo moriyo |
At last the fort was broken into as none could face the assault.
ਅਟਕਤ ਏਕ ਅਟਾਰੀ ਭਈ ॥
attakat ek attaaree bhee |
ਅਧਿਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੋਲਿਨ ਕੀ ਦਈ ॥੩॥
adhik maar golin kee dee |3|
But in spite of heavy shelling one lofty mansion was left.(3)
ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਤੁਪਕ ਤਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲ︀ਯਾਵੈ ॥
bhar bhar tupak tavan triy layaavai |
ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਪੁਰਖ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥
lai lai kar mai purakh chalaavai |
There, the women reloaded the guns and brought them to their husbands.
ਤਕਿ ਤਕਿ ਤਨ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੈ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
tak tak tan jaa ke mai maarai |
ਹੈ ਗੈ ਰਥ ਬੀਰਾਨ ਬਿਦਾਰੈ ॥੪॥
hai gai rath beeraan bidaarai |4|
They would shoot men, elephants, horses and chariotdrivers and kill them.(4)
ਭਰਿ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸਿਸਤ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
bhar bandook triy sisat banaaee |
ਖਾਨ ਨਬੀ ਕੇ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਲਗਾਈ ॥
khaan nabee ke hridai lagaaee |
With a loaded gun, one woman, aimed and sent a shot through the heart of Khan Nabhi.
ਲਾਗਤ ਘਾਇ ਹਾਹਿ ਨਹਿ ਭਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
laagat ghaae haeh neh bhaakhiyo |
ਮਾਰਿ ਪਾਲਕੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ॥੫॥
maar paalakee bheetar raakhiyo |5|
Be did not get time to express his anguish and dropped dead inside his chariot.(5)

ਨਬੀ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਉਤੈ ਜੁਧ ਅਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
nabee tupak ke sang hanayo utai judh at hoe |
Nabhi was shod-dead with a gun but the fighting continued at the other end.
ਇਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਤਿ ਲੈ ਘਰ ਗਏ ਉਤੈ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥
eit bhrit pat lai ghar ge utai na jaanat koe |6|
Bere, they brought Nabhi to his house and no one noticed even.(6)
ਏਕ ਤੋਪਚੀ ਤੁਪਕ ਲੈ ਬਾਧੀ ਸਿਸਤ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
ek topachee tupak lai baadhee sisat banaae |
There, one gunner aimed and discharged a shot to that direction,
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਗੋਲੀ ਹਨੀ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥੭॥
taa ke pat ke ur bikhai golee hanee risaae |7|
Which went straight into the heart of the woman’s husband.(7)

ਲਗੇ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਭਟ ਜੂਝਿਯੋ ॥
lage tupak ke brin bhatt joojhiyo |
ਠਾਢੀ ਨਿਕਟ ਤਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਬੂਝਿਯੋ ॥
tthaadtee nikatt tavan triy boojhiyo |
When hit, her husband died, and while standing near by she thought,
ਚਕਮਕ ਝਾਰਿ ਕਢੀ ਚਿਨਗਾਰੀ ॥
chakamak jhaar kadtee chinagaaree |
ਤਿਨ ਛਪਰਨ ਮੋ ਛਿਪ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਰੀ ॥੮॥
tin chhaparan mo chhipr prajaaree |8|
By producing sparks by rubbing stones, she should put her house on fire.(8)
ਮੁਗਲ ਸੇਖ ਸੈਯਦ ਤਹ ਆਏ ॥
mugal sekh saiyad teh aae |
ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਯੌ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
taa triy ko yau bachan sunaae |
In the mean time a Mughal Sheikh Sayeed came in to talk to the woman.
ਅਬ ਤੂੰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਹਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ab toon isatree hohi hamaaree |
ਨਿਕਟ ਲਾਗਿ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥੯॥
nikatt laag ih bhaat uchaaree |9|
‘Now you become my woman,’ he suggested to her.(9)

ਕਉਨੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਚਲਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaun jaanai chalit tere kichh ant naahee paar |1| rahaau |
Who knows Your wondrous plays? You have no end or limitation. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕ ਖਿਨਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਦਾ ਘੜਿ ਭੰਨਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
eik khineh thaap uthaapadaa gharr bhan karanaihaar |
In an instant, You establish and disestablish; You create and destroy, O Creator Lord.
ਜੇਤ ਕੀਨ ਉਪਾਰਜਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
jet keen upaarajanaa prabh daan dee daataar |1|
As many beings as You created, God, so many You bless with Your blessings. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਊਚ ਅਗਮ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥
har saran aaeo daas teraa prabh aooch agam muraar |
I have come to Your Sanctuary, Lord; I am Your slave, O Inaccessible Lord God.
ਕਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਬਿਖਮ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੭॥
kadt lehu bhaujal bikham te jan naanak sad balihaar |2|2|7|
Lift me up and pull me out of the terrifying, treacherous world-ocean; servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||2||7||

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

The Lord of the World abides in my mind and body.
ਦੀਨ ਬਾਂਧਵ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen baandhav bhagat vachhal sadaa sadaa kripaal |1| rahaau |
Friend of the meek, Lover of His devotees, forever and ever merciful. ||1||Pause||
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
aad ante madh toohai prabh binaa naahee koe |
In the beginning, in the end and in the middle, You alone exist, God; there is none other than You.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
poor rahiaa sagal manddal ek suaamee soe |1|
He is totally permeating and pervading all worlds; He is the One and only Lord and Master. ||1||
ਕਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਰਸਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
karan har jas netr darasan rasan har gun gaau |
With my ears I hear God's Praises, and with my eyes I behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; with my tongue I sing the Lord's Glorious Praises.
ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਏ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥੩॥੮॥੬॥੧੪॥
balihaar jaae sadaa naanak dehu apanaa naau |2|3|8|6|14|
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You; please, bless me with Your Name. ||2||3||8||6||14||

ਧਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਓ ਰਾਮ ਬੇਨੁ ਬਾਜੈ ॥
dhan dhan o raam ben baajai |
Blessed, blessed is that flute which the Lord plays.
ਮਧੁਰ ਮਧੁਰ ਧੁਨਿ ਅਨਹਤ ਗਾਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
madhur madhur dhun anahat gaajai |1| rahaau |
The sweet, sweet unstruck sound current sings forth. ||1||Pause||
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਮੇਘਾ ਰੋਮਾਵਲੀ ॥
dhan dhan meghaa romaavalee |
Blessed, blessed is the wool of the sheep;
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਓਢੈ ਕਾਂਬਲੀ ॥੧॥
dhan dhan krisan odtai kaanbalee |1|
blessed, blessed is the blanket worn by Krishna. ||1||
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਤੂ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੇਵਕੀ ॥
dhan dhan too maataa devakee |
Blessed, blessed are you, O mother Dayvakee;
ਜਿਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਮਈਆ ਕਵਲਾਪਤੀ ॥੨॥
jih grih rameea kavalaapatee |2|
into your home the Lord was born. ||2||
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਬਨ ਖੰਡ ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨਾ ॥
dhan dhan ban khandd bindraabanaa |
Blessed, blessed are the forests of Brindaaban;
ਜਹ ਖੇਲੈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਰਾਇਨਾ ॥੩॥
jeh khelai sree naaraaeinaa |3|
the Supreme Lord plays there. ||3||
ਬੇਨੁ ਬਜਾਵੈ ਗੋਧਨੁ ਚਰੈ ॥
ben bajaavai godhan charai |
He plays the flute, and herds the cows;
ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਨਦ ਕਰੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
naame kaa suaamee aanad karai |4|1|
Naam Dayv's Lord and Master plays happily. ||4||1||
ਮੇਰੋ ਬਾਪੁ ਮਾਧਉ ਤੂ ਧਨੁ ਕੇਸੌ ਸਾਂਵਲੀਓ ਬੀਠੁਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mero baap maadhau too dhan kesau saanvaleeo beetthulaae |1| rahaau |
O my Father, Lord of wealth, blessed are You, long-haired, dark-skinned, my darling. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰ ਧਰੇ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਤੇ ਆਏ ਗਜ ਹਸਤੀ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਉਧਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥
kar dhare chakr baikuntth te aae gaj hasatee ke praan udhaareeale |
You hold the steel chakra in Your hand; You came down from Heaven, and saved the life of the elephant.
ਦੁਹਸਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਸਭਾ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਅੰਬਰ ਲੇਤ ਉਬਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥੧॥
duhasaasan kee sabhaa dropatee anbar let ubaareeale |1|
In the court of Duhsaasan, You saved the honor of Dropati, when her clothes were being removed. ||1||
ਗੋਤਮ ਨਾਰਿ ਅਹਲਿਆ ਤਾਰੀ ਪਾਵਨ ਕੇਤਕ ਤਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥
gotam naar ahaliaa taaree paavan ketak taareeale |
You saved Ahliyaa, the wife of Gautam; how many have You purified and carried across?
ਐਸਾ ਅਧਮੁ ਅਜਾਤਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਾਗਤਿ ਆਈਅਲੇ ॥੨॥੨॥
aisaa adham ajaat naamadeo tau saranaagat aaeeale |2|2|
Such a lowly outcaste as Naam Dayv has come seeking Your Sanctuary. ||2||2||
ਸਭੈ ਘਟ ਰਾਮੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਰਾਮਾ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
sabhai ghatt raam bolai raamaa bolai |
Within all hearts, the Lord speaks, the Lord speaks.
ਰਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam binaa ko bolai re |1| rahaau |
Who else speaks, other than the Lord? ||1||Pause||
ਏਕਲ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੁੰਜਰ ਚੀਟੀ ਭਾਜਨ ਹੈਂ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥
ekal maattee kunjar cheettee bhaajan hain bahu naanaa re |
Out of the same clay, the elephant, the ant, and the many sorts of species are formed.
ਅਸਥਾਵਰ ਜੰਗਮ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਮ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
asathaavar jangam keett patangam ghatt ghatt raam samaanaa re |1|
In stationary life forms, moving beings, worms, moths and within each and every heart, the Lord is contained. ||1||
ਏਕਲ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਅਉਰ ਤਜਹੁ ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਰੇ ॥
ekal chintaa raakh anantaa aaur tajahu sabh aasaa re |
Remember the One, Infinite Lord; abandon all other hopes.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਕਾਮਾ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੋ ਦਾਸਾ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੩॥
pranavai naamaa bhe nihakaamaa ko tthaakur ko daasaa re |2|3|
Naam Dayv prays, I have become dispassionate and detached; who is the Lord and Master, and who is the slave? ||2||3||
